Q & A With Felena Hanson

There are many books out there about….What makes yours different?
Yes, there are many “how to launch a business” books on the market but mine is unique for several reasons
  1. It has relatable stories of women who have come through challenging situations to make their dreams a reality
  2. It gives the reader a step-by-step action plan to bring business to life.  It’s inspiration, tools, and education all rolled into one.

What are some of the signs that someone may be ready to become and entrepreneur?
1. You feel stuck. You've hit a wall and are no longer fulfilled by your job.
2. The light bulb came on and stayed on. One day you're in your kitchen, or more likely the shower, and you conjure up an unmet need. You keep working it over in your mind and even start obsessing about it. You can't let it go!
3. You’re passionate. It's not just a good idea; it's what you feel you were put on this earth to do! You start to tell everyone you know—even your mother-in-law! You want to build your dream!
4. You’re independent. You would rather blaze your own trail rather than following the herd. You've always been the girl that zigged when others zagged.
5. You’re motivated. You're willing to work nights and weekends on your idea.
6. You're disciplined. You're the one who follows through with your New Year’s resolutions through 12/31.
7. You’re organized. You color code your calendar - every color has meaning!

What’s the most courageous thing you’ve ever done?
License my business model internationally - www.HeraHub.com/Expansion
I wanted to build something that was bigger than myself.  In my prior business (doing marketing strategy consulting for small businesses) I was trading time for dollars.  It’s the classic “eMyth” scenario (book by Michael Gerber).  My goal is to support over 20,000 women in the launch and growth of their business. We’re doing this by connecting with amazing women throughout the world who want to use our model to build their own business and a strong platform for female entrepreneurship in their city.

Any hobbies? or Name a quirky thing you like to do.
Other than running my business I love drinking strong black coffee, running with my two dogs, and sipping a good Malbec (typically in that order).  I also LOVE to travel.  Thus far I’ve been to 23 countries and have another 50 on my bucket list.

What was the process of writing your book?
The book has three distinctive sections
  1. My story and journey to entrepreneurship
  2. Advice from six women and short stories of the “lean out moment” for an additional dozen women
  3. A practical step by step process to launch a business

For section one I started with filming my life story via eight hours of video.  I then had that transcribed and worked with a book coach to help me turn the timeline into a story.  This process took almost a year because I only had a few days per month to write.

The second part of the book was mostly coordination and interviews, which I had my book coach assist me with.  I wanted to be sure to bring in other perspectives and tangible examples.

The final part of the book is backed up by an online platform, which is a 17 step process to launch a business.  This I also back up with video content and significant online resources.  This was also took me about a year to compile and build.  Again, I had help.

I couldn’t have completed the book without significant support from the Hera Hub community… it takes a village to raise a book!
