Chakra Wisdom Oracle: How To Read The Cards For Yourself and Others by Tori Hartman

This is one of the most informative books I have read on the art of Oracle Cards. This is not one of those books you read and put on a shelf. This book has so much useful information it should be used as a constant guide. It is written for the beginner but even seasoned readers will find many things in the book useful for years to come. The book teaches you how to not only read the cards for yourself but to give readings for others. Unlike a lot of books it is written to where the novice can fully understand and grasp all the lessons it teaches. I am thrilled with this book and it will be one I refer to often.

Book Description:

When eleven-year-old TJ finds a
weird looking egg in the Florida Everglades after a tropical storm rips
through, naturally he takes it home for identification. It could be the egg of
a mutant duck or something, which would be awesome.

Problem is, the egg doesn’t look
like it came from a mallard, even a mutated one—it’s too big and heavy
and…strange. So he hides it away in his closet and continues on with his life
as usual, doing his best to ignore the creepy men constantly banging at his
front door and the significant rise in military helicopter sightings in his
typically quiet neighbourhood. Then one day he comes home from school and it’s
as though a cyclone has gone through his bedroom.

Suddenly, TJ knows he’s dealing
with something a little more interesting—and a little more deadly—than a duck.

Excerpt:
TJ and Sam stood silent and
still, too afraid to move or make a sound. “Wait a second,” TJ finally said.
“Mess downstairs? We weren’t downstairs.”
          Their
eyes met and they shared the same thought. They darted into TJ’s room, emerging
a moment later, sufficiently rearmed with the slingshot and bat. Then, they
snuck downstairs to assess the damage.
          When
TJ saw the extent of the wreckage, he almost let another marble rip. His heart
sank when he spotted the demolished cherry pie.
          “Hell-o
Kitty,” Sam uttered, marveling at the mess. “I think your house is haunted, TJ.
You have one of those polter-geese.”
          “Geist,”
TJ corrected. “Poltergeist. Do you think a ghost hatched out of that egg?”
          “I
don’t know what it was that came out of that thing, but I know it’s a huge pain
in my butt. Since you found it, I’ve almost been eaten by an alligator, shot by
a swamp cowboy, and now I’m stuck cleaning up its mess.”
          Sam
and TJ grumbled at each other, and ghosts, and the whole world as they scrubbed
the floors, wiped the counters, and picked up bits of broken plate and other
unidentifiable things. Once the kitchen sparkled, Sam threw her dirty rag at
TJ.
          “Not
that this wasn’t a fun night or anything, but I’m going home before the ground
splits open and we get attacked by mole people.”
          “You’re
leaving?” TJ shrieked. “While there’s still a possible ghost goblin poltergeist
thingy stalking around my house?”
          Sam
shrugged. “Ghost goblin poltergeist thingies got nothing on my dad when I miss
curfew. Call me if something tries to eat you.”

***** ***** *****

Fatigue hit TJ hard. He yawned
and didn’t stop yawning until he reached his bedroom door. His mind raced in
circles. He couldn’t focus on any one thing long enough to even care about
poltergeists or alligators or whatever. All he wanted to do was go to sleep
with the hope that he’d wake up in the morning with all of his limbs still
attached.
          Luckily,
TJ’s reflexes were working just fine despite his mostly asleep brain. He opened
the door and ducked just in time to avoid getting hit square in the face with a
flying sneaker. He dropped to the floor and covered his head with his arms. He
peeked up when he was sure the other sneaker wasn’t going to follow. He
instantly wished he had his helmet—and the swamp cowboy—because standing on his
bed was the thing that had destroyed his room and the kitchen…
A one-foot tall Tyrannosaurus
Rex.

"What are you doing here, Jules?"

"I wanted to see you. We haven't talking in a few days, and I just wanted to check in." I laid my hands flat against the books; they offered comfort.

"You should have called." He stared off toward his desk.

"Are you excepting company?"

"No. It's been a long week; I'm tired and I have a headache."

I stepped toward him, stood a few inches away, but he didn't drop his hands.

"You should let me rub your temples." I reached up, and he grabbed my hand and stepped away.

"Don't."

"You don't even want me to touch you?" I asked over the grapefruit size lump in my throat.

"Jules, please just go."

"No. Why?" I asked. "I just want to be near you. Why is that so bad?"

"It's not bad, but I just can't."

"Why? What is it?"

"You wouldn't understand."

"Then make me understand."

His eyes flashed, and he stepped toward me. I welcomed the warmth. His demeanor softened for a split second. I saw it. I felt it, but then it was gone, and he slumped back on the bookshelves with his chin to his chest.

"I can't," he said.

The words crushed me yet his tone scared me. I stood in front of him. He shuddered but didn't look at me. I bent down, so I could see his eyes.

"Why?" I asked. "What are you afraid of?"

He lifted his head. He reached up and ran the back of his hand down my tear-soaked face.

I shuddered.

"I'm afraid if I tell you, if I show you what I am and what I'm truly like, then you'll stop looking at me like that." His hand dropped to his side. "I'd really miss that."

"How do I look at you?" I asked. I knew the answer but wanted to hear how he saw it.
"Like I'm a king. You have the ultimate faith in me. I don't deserve it." His head dropped again.

"Then earn it," I said, my tone stronger than I felt on the inside. Inside, I felt like I might crumble any minutes if he didn't touch me.

"Oh, Julia ... How?" He raised his head.

I spotted a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

"Keep it simple. What do you need me to do?"

His eyes grew dark as he approached me. I backed up into the bookshelf, and he placed his hands on either side of my head.

"Do as I say?"

I nodded. My heart raced, and I was sure he could hear it thumping like crazy. He placed his hand over my heart, and I drew in a sharp breath. His fingers tapped against my sternum.

"Look at me."

I turned my head up and stared into his eyes. His hands rose and surround my throat. He didn't squeeze, but panic set in.

"I'm not going to hurt you, Jules." He pressed a little tighter. "I need you to trust me."

"Okay."

"Do you trust me?"

I nodded.

"Say it."

"I trust—" Before I finished the sentence, his lips were on mine.

EXCERPT:

My eyes widened, my heart hammering against my rib cage. A fear I didn’t understand tugged at my tailfin, like an anchor had been tied to its end. I sank against the wall of our pirated vessel and watched the chaos as it unfolded in slow motion.

Gene laughed at something my sister said just before it hit him. His smile fell in an instant as soon as the sudden deadening feeling pummeled into his chest. He dropped the plate and held out his hand. From my experience with Beaked Sea Snake, he was seeing double the fingers.

A fogginess washed over his eyes. He reached out for Fawna for just a second before his arms fell to his sides, limp and useless. Then, his human legs gave out from under him. A loud crack sounded as his knees made impact with the hard floor of the ship.

When he finally fell backward, my sister stood over his paralyzed body with a shameless, cruel smirk that gave me the chills. My mother, hovering well above me, nodded her approval with a warm, glowing pride showing on her face.

I looked around, expecting to see the same shocked expression I wore among my clan. But not one jaw was dropped. Every one of them watched with tense, excited eyes. They looked like bloodthirsty demons from where I was sitting.

“Mother,” I whispered. “What’s going on?”

She didn’t hear me.

“My Queen,” someone shouted from below. “What are your orders?”

Mother took in a long, powerful breath and shouted, “Air him out.”

I gasped, disbelief shuddering through me. “Mother,” I screamed. “Mother, you can’t!”

My protests were drowned out by the unified battle cry that erupted from every member of our clan. Angelique dropped her guitar, dashing for Gene with two other mermaids close behind.

I rushed for him, but Mother grabbed my arm with bruising fingers.

“Let me go,” I demanded.

Even through the screeching cheers below, I could hear Mother’s teeth grinding. “Don’t make a scene.”

I stilled, having every intention to stay put and comply, as usual. But then, I caught a glimpse of Gene’s face. While his muscles were tight and immobile, his eyes were filled with a conscious terror. They pleaded with me from across the ship, begging me to save him.

Before I could stop myself, I twisted my arm out of Mother’s grasp and swam to him, hoping to talk some sense into my sister before she did something terrible.

It was no use. I couldn’t reach them. They had too much of a head start. All I could do was watch as they snatched the helpless human and dragged his lifeless body up, up, and up until…

Bubbles sprayed all around them as they held Gene’s head and neck above water, but kept their own gills safely submerged. Even if he had working legs to thrash and fight with, he would be outmatched. Our tails treaded water in a way a human’s boney appendages couldn’t come close to.

He was in our world, by no choice of his own. We brought him down here against his will, and now that he was a part of it, my mother was sending him back home to die.

The gills would not disappear. They would only struggle for a short while before giving up to the heat of the land above. Gene’s chest moved in and out, in faster but shallower spurts.

I kicked my tail harder. Just as he came into my reach, he took one final gulp of air from his own world, and the movement stopped.

Mother had killed him.

About the Book
Title: Scent of the Past
Author: Erin Marie Bernardo
Genre: Historical Fiction
Scent of the Past by Erin Marie Bernardo
A secret diary. A forgotten past. Another time.

When people think of time travel, they think of the clichĂ©d manufactured kind. Of giant electronic machines with flashing lights and buttons calibrated to shoot you into the past with one press. But it doesn’t work that way. You need a reason, a connection, and—most important—a link. But you can’t choose when and why you go. That would be too easy, and we’d all be snapping our fingers in hopes of seeing lost treasures of yesteryear. It must choose you.
Close cousins Addison and Elissa live in present day New York City and lead somewhat ordinary lives. When uncertain circumstances surrounding a set of antique perfume bottles sends them back to eighteenth-century France, they must uncover the truth behind their travel.

Disaster strikes when Addison finds herself in a nearly identical situation to a mishap she experienced in the present—the witnessing of a murder and release of a secret. Only this time the truth could destroy the entire French monarchy. With Addison’s head on the line, the young women search for answers before Addison suffers her unlucky fate twice. It is only when they discover the haunting connections to life in the present, that they understand why they both were sent, and why a repeating past...may not always be such a bad thing.

Book Excerpts
Excerpt from CHAPTER 4

Finding it hard to concentrate, she worked slowly, cleaning up the damage. Her body felt sluggish. Maybe the stress of Addison’s vanishing was finally taking its toll. Eyelids weighted with heaviness, she noticed fuzzy images pushing at her temples. They were blurry and indistinguishable from one to the next, but they moved like silent pictures on an old movie screen. Something wasn’t right. She felt different. Distant. Detached. Confused. She stopped cleaning to massage her forehead and ease the pressure.
The images moved faster, rotating in circles, dancing along the boundaries of her mind and just out of reach. She was getting dizzy from their movement, yet they held her in place. Every once in a while a vision seemed recognizable. A familiar glimpse of two girls laughing, a majestic fountain spraying drops of crystal water, people dancing, yards of fabric twirling as they turned. Her senses were clouded, but the fabrics, brilliant green and velvet blue, pink lace, ribbon, and white taffeta seemed so real, spinning quickly like a child’s kaleidoscope.
Through the clouded fog she reached out. Just to try and touch. Everything around her was beautiful. So vivid in color and texture. Grasping at a piece of fluttering silk, she lifted her hand and instantly felt the pulling. It immediately consumed her body, leaving her numb to its force. She tried to resist the heavy pull, yet with every move she made, it yanked her harder. Tugging, bit by bit, until Elissa had absolutely no control over her limbs. Her arms were as heavy as rocks. Her legs as solid as lead. She was helpless to the potency of this unknown power. What was happening? What was this energy that pushed her forward yet held her in place? She tried to speak, to cry out for help, but nothing came out of her mouth. Just silent breath. Her own, frightened and scared.
The internal tug pulled harder at her chest, accelerating at a rapid and dangerous speed—yet all she could do was stand there, motionless. Pinned like the forceful pressure of a fast rollercoaster, pushing her back into her seat. She was trapped. Panic darted through her blood, overtaking her cells as the intensity of the images pushing against her mind, grew.  Spinning, spinning, spinning, they turned in unison, filling the four corners of the little store room. A pair of ladies riding gloves, a powdered wig, marble floors. The draw to the images was magnetic, leaving her helpless to stop as the pictures zipped and collided in front of her as she stood frozen. A garden, a trimmed hedge, a vase of fresh roses. The dizziness was making her nauseous.
“No more!” she cried, although it was a soundless plea. She closed her eyes and prayed.
And then just as quickly as it had come, the turmoil stopped. Just after Elissa blacked out.
