First love. Second chance?

As the daughter of a hoarder, Phoenix Fuller had a tough childhood. So when the handsome, popular Riley Stinson became her boyfriend in high school, she finally felt as though she had something to be proud of. Phoenix was desperate not to lose him—especially once she found out she was pregnant. Yes, she might have acted a bit obsessive when he broke up with her. But she did not run down the girl he started dating next.

Unfortunately, there was no way to prove her innocence. Now, after serving her time in prison, Phoenix has been released. All she wants to do is return to Whiskey Creek and get to know her son. But Jacob’s father isn’t exactly welcoming.

Riley doesn’t trust Phoenix, doesn’t want her in Jacob’s life. He is, however, ready to find someone to love. And he wants a good mother for his son. He has no idea that he’s about to find both!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt
Once again, Phoenix’s eyes were riveted on her son. Only this time, she felt such a surge of emotion she almost darted into the bathroom. She could not break down.
Please, God, don’t let me cry. He won’t come within ten feet of me if I do.
But the harder she tried to hold back her tears, the more overwhelmed she became. In a panic, she slipped around the corner, into the small alcove by the bathrooms, and leaned her head against the wall.
Breathe. Don’t blow this.
The bell over the door jingled, telling her that Riley and Jacob had stepped inside. She imagined them looking around, maybe getting annoyed when they didn’t find her. But she was frozen in place. She absolutely could. Not. Move.
“Hey,” she heard the hostess say with a familiarity that hadn’t been present in her greeting to Phoenix. “We’re busy this morning, like we are every Saturday. But if you can wait for a few minutes, I’ll get you a table.”
“We’re actually meeting someone who should be here.”
That had to be Riley, but Phoenix couldn’t say she recognized his voice. Her memories of him were vivid. But they’d both been so young, and he’d changed a great deal. No longer the skinny teenager she’d known in high school, he was a man with plenty of hard muscle on his solid frame, a man in his prime, and that had been more than apparent as she’d watched him walk, shoulder to shoulder, with their son a few seconds earlier.
“Who are you here to meet?” the hostess asked.
“Name’s Phoenix Fuller,” came his response.
“What does she look like?”
“I’m not sure these days,” he said, and Phoenix winced. Her shoulder-length dark hair wasn’t bad. It was thick, probably her best asset. Her hazel eyes weren’t unattractive, either. She didn’t feel she was ugly. But the scars on her face would be new to him. She hadn’t had those when she went to prison.
“She wasn’t very tall,” he added, as if that might be the only detail still applicable.
“There was a woman who said she was expecting two more to join her,” the hostess said. “But I don’t know where she went…”
Determined not to miss this opportunity after waiting so long for it, Phoenix curved her fingernails into her palms, took a deep breath and stepped around the corner. “Sorry I…I had to wash my hands.”
CHAPTER ONE
Austin, Texas
August
"You answered a freaking personals ad?" Ava Sinclair burst out laughing. "Which one, Laken? Six foot tall hunk of burning love seeks woman into foot massage and Bob Marley?"
Three other heads swiveled, waiting for the inevitable flare-up when Ava's exasperation overcame her love, and Laken Foster’s shark-lawyer ego couldn't stand coming in second.
"Laken, you didn't," Luisa Martinez protested, her soft voice barely heard above the sudden din. She squeezed Laken's hand in commiseration.
Laken shot her a look that forbade pity. Luisa settled back to drink her tea and wait.
"Well, I for one, darling, think it's about time you made the switch from the singles bar scene. All those dreadful married men with white bands on their fingers." Sylvie Everett's elegant nose wrinkled faintly. "Now tell all. Dish the details. What's he like? Any orgies in the offing?"
Ava watched as Ellie Preston returned to her cozy living room, fresh wine bottles in hand. Ava could have predicted the rescue.
She wasn't wrong. Ellie eased in between them, soothing. "Now, Sylvie. Laken may not want to talk about it. More wine, anyone?"
"Since when does Laken withhold a single detail of her sex life?" Ava couldn't resist prodding Ellie's perpetual air of virginity. The mother of five, her baby about to start first grade, Ellie could pass for sixteen in all but the harshest light. There was something of the ingĂ©nue about their auburn-haired friend that life couldn't seem to erase. The room around them reflected her: lush green plants at every window, the bright spill of knitting yarns in a basket, pillow tops she’d quilted by hand.
The dusting of freckles across Ellie's nose dimmed as her cheeks turned pink. Then her grin turned impish. "Well, far be it from me to discourage her from talking about it—" Her eyebrows rose with her voice. "—if she wants to?"
The whole group broke up laughing, Laken's sultry chuckles blending with Luisa's clear soprano.
"Come on, Laken, spill your guts. Luisa hasn't been laid in two years and Ellie's still trying to figure out where all those kids come from." Ava poured herself a second glass of pinot noir.
Laken slugged down the last of her wine, holding out the glass for Ellie to refill. Her spiky dark mane shook with the force of her denial. "You do not have my permission to steal this for your next book, Ava."
Ava clutched one hand to her breast with a dramatic sigh. "Trust me, Laken, I haven't run out of imagination yet. This crew has a ways to go to catch up with my heroines."
"Too true," Sylvie nodded. "Thanks to your incredible imaginary men." She lifted her glass. "To Ava's heroes, long may they inspire our dreams."
They all clicked glasses, laughing, and drank—Luisa her tea, Ellie her watered wine, Ava and Laken red, Sylvie her customary chardonnay.
Another meeting of The Book Babes was well underway.
Laken sprawled back and sighed, fanning herself against the summer swelter of Austin, Texas. "If only you could conjure some of them up in the flesh, Ava, I wouldn't be reduced to scouring the earth for one good man."
"There are good men all around you," Ellie objected.
"Yeah, but you and Ava are married to them."
"Wyatt has a friend—"
"Stop right there," Laken flashed her palm at Ellie. "No more matchmaking. Period. There are three men in this town worth a damn; Ava's got Tom, you've got Wyatt, and Sylvie's going to keep Gabe waiting until he's old and gray."
"No, Sylvie's not." A tiny tremor shook the carefully modulated voice that matched Sylvie's ever-faultless appearance.
Ava shot a glance across the coffee table, seeing what she should have recognized earlier in Sylvie's silence. "What happened?"
Sylvie shook her head, the ash blonde shoulder-length pageboy shimmering. "It's over, that's all."
Ever the nurturer, Ellie placed a hand on Sylvie's shoulder. Only Ellie would dare, and only Ellie would not be shaken off by shoulders tightened into almost military posture. "You don't have to talk about it, if you don't want to."
"I don't."
Silence stretched out, an unheard-of occurrence at their monthly meetings. Far more common was the clamor of all of them talking at once, too much to say, too much to share, words tumbling in pell-mell fashion from the lips of intelligent women trying to piece out the ways of the world.
Luisa filled in with their topic of last resort—the book they were supposed to be discussing. "So what did anyone think of Smilla's Sense of Snow?"
Ava held back. She'd hated its dearth of emotion. The plot was intriguing, but the writing was so spare and sterile. But she knew that Sylvie had loved it, and Sylvie was already hurting.
Laken had no such restraint. "It sucked."
"Laken!" Ellie reached over, patting Sylvie's knee. "It was really interesting. Very exciting."
"I loved it, Sylvie," Luisa responded. "I had to wrap up in a blanket, reading it, the setting was so vivid."
Ava chuckled and shook her head. A blanket in August in Texas. "What was the a/c setting? Fifty-five?"
Laken intoned, "Thank God summer doesn't last forever."
Sylvie's smooth tones interrupted their laughter. "What about you, Ava? How did you like it?"
Opening her mouth to respond, Ava glanced around the room, distracted by the tears brimming on Ellie's lashes. Ava's comments were forgotten as she took in the startling sight. "What's wrong, Ellie?"
The auburn pageboy swung with the shaking of Ellie's head, her fingers pressed tightly to trembling lips.
Even the Ice Queen was disturbed by the sight. Ellie always smiled, always ministered to the rest of them. "Is it one of the children?" Sylvie ventured.
The tears overflowed ginger lashes, brown eyes filled with hurt. "I swore I wouldn't do this. It's silly...millions of women deal with this. I know it's dumb, but—" She shook her head again, dropping her gaze. "Sam's starting first grade, and Christy is leaving for college, and all of a sudden, all I can think is: what happens when they're all gone?"
Ava and Luisa exchanged glances. The empty nest. It hit everyone. Laken and Sylvie had no children; they could look sympathetic, but they'd never truly understand.
She tried for reason. "It's a long time until Sam leaves the nest, kiddo."
Ellie sniffed. "I know that. Intellectually, I understand all of this. But it doesn't change the fact that being a mother is all I know how to be. Look at you, Ava. You've created a whole new life, becoming a writer. You're excited and alive and—"
"—crazed and despairing and insane to have tried it."
Ellie brushed at her eyes. "But the fact remains that you know what you're doing with your life. You're a mother, but you're not only a mother. Luisa has her Ph.D. and tenure—"
"And a mother driving me nuts."
Ellie ignored her, leaning forward. "Laken's a successful lawyer, Sylvie's got her gallery. What do I do that's interesting? I drive carpools and bake cupcakes and do laundry and feed the damn chickens." For Ellie to swear was almost earth-shattering.
"And lead Scouts and sew and garden—hell, Ellie, you can do anything," Laken's voice rose above the others.
"Jack of all trades, master of none."
Ava drew a breath to respond, but Sylvie beat her to it.
"You need to be painting, Ellie. It's criminal that you ignore your talent."
Ellie blushed. "I just fool around. I've never had lessons."
"Anyone can take lessons. You have a gift."
Ava could see that Sylvie meant it. Sylvie's life revolved around art; it was the great sorrow of her life to have an unerring eye for the beautiful, for startling new talent—and to be unable to draw with more than mediocrity herself. Sylvie did not suffer fools gladly; even with her great affection for Ellie, an alliance that surprised them all, she would never say something she didn't mean. Saving feelings was never a priority with Sylvie.
Ava added her weight to the proposition. "I only had two children, not your five, but I know all too well the toll a family takes. You need to be feeding your soul, Ellie. You've still got a long way to go down this road of life, and you have a right to reserve some of it for yourself. You give everything to Wyatt and the kids, but Wyatt is a grown man, and the kids will need you less and less as they get older. It's time to start thinking about Ellie."
"But I know how fast it goes. Before I know it, Sam will be leaving for college. I can't miss these years."
"Come on, Ellie," Laken's dry tones crackled. "You're not talking about abandoning them. You can do this while they're all at school."
"But they're not used to—"
Ava spoke gently. "Your kids are great and amazingly unspoiled, but they won't die if you don't lie down in the road to be run over by them."
Ellie blew her nose, her back stiffening. "I don't do that."
Luisa's hand touched her gently. "What Ava means is that you give yourself to everyone you know, including us, and never reserve anything for yourself. We're all very lucky that you do, chica, but you have to look out for yourself, too."
"The well runs dry, kiddo," Ava reasoned. "Nothing faster than a family to drain you. Cut yourself some slack and think of it this way: if you're happier, they'll be happier."
"I should be happy now."
Ava waved a dismissive hand. "We should all be happy. None of us are starving in Africa, we all have roofs over our heads, we have love in our lives—"
"Speak for yourself," Laken said dryly.
Ava shot her a glare. "All right, everyone but Laken has love in her life, but constant hot sex is a workable substitute—"
The entire group broke up laughing. Even Ellie grinned.
My Review: SunLabz 10,000 mAh NiMH D Rechargeable Batteries - 4 pack
There a few things I really like about these batteries. They are rechargeable, they are recyclable, they are long lasting, they charge rather quickly, they work with any charger.
 It says they will take about 1000 charges.
My husband uses flashlights a lot at work so rechargeable batteries are a must for us. Some days we have to charge the batteries every day, we have got these over the weekend, and so far it hasn't been a daily charge, so that tells me they have a great charge rate. These are NiMH batteries, which all NiMH batteries seem stronger to me.
I am not a huge techie and don't really know ta lot about the lingo for batteries, I just know that if I turn the flashlight on and it lights up , they must be working.
My Review: Radha Beauty Intensive Eye Gel
I was given the Radha Beauty Intensive Eye Gel to try and to give an honest review.
 I personally really like this Eye Gel. I have tried other brands and either was not satisfied with their results or was allergic to them and my eyes were really red and swollen. I have very sensitive skin  With the Radha Beauty eye gel I have had no bad reaction to, It only takes a tiny drop to do the whole eye. I can see results in just a few minutes with this. It has a very faint cucumber smell, and feels cool when you put it on. It has a creamy texture instead of jelly. It's not greasy at all.  It comes in a pump style bottle with a push on pull off lid, which is very nice for putting it into my make up bag so I can take it with me, when going out of town. It is a small bottle but with only need a drop at a time it should last a very long time.
  I really like that it is 99% natural and 75% organic, it is not tested on animals, and I can say all of the ingredint names,  plant stem cells, matrixyl 3000, hyaluronic acid, cucumber, vitamin E, aloe, and MSM, and is safe for all skin types.
  Not only is this and eye cream but it says you can use it all over your face to help reduce fine lines and to give your skin a healthy youthful glow.
  The company also offers a 180 day money back guarantee.  No questions asked and you get to keep the product.
My Review: Firstchefpro Dual Julienne vegetable peeler
I was chosen to receive and try the Firstchefpro Dual Julienne vegetable peeler in exchange for my honest review.
 The peeler has dual blades one side it for peeling the other is for julienning. It is made of stainless steel and seems to be very sturdy. It has a hook on the end for hanging. There are 2 nubs one on each side for digging out potato eyes or bad spots. The blades seem to be extremely sharp and peeled very quickly without having to put loads of pressure on it. I do think the julienne side made the pieces a bit thin though.
It is very easy to clean up just swish around in some hot soapy water or toss in the dishwasher.
The company offers a no haggle money back guarantee. Which I don't personally think you will be needing.
My Review: K2R-803 Portable Charger with flashlight
I was chosen to use and review the K2R-803 Portable Charger with flashlight for my honest review.
 The K2R-803 Portable Charger with flashlight so far is amazing, I do have other portable chargers, but this one allows you to charge not 1 but 2 devices at once and has a flashlight. It comes in a nice cardboard box that everything fits in nicely , it has a micro usb cord, a iphone cord, and the charger itself. It is about 2x2x1 , has 4 small blue lights on  the back to tell you how much charge you have, it is fully charged when all 4 are lit. The cord itself has a red light on the micro usb end when it is either charging your device or the charger itself. It turns blue when is not plugged in to anything, and flashes blue/red when your device is charged.  You can still use your device while it is charging.  And if you have a need for it the cable is also a data cable so you won't need to drag another cable along also.
 The flashlight has 2 LED bulbs and is really quite bright. Would be great if you had a power outage or dropped your keys or if you were out camping or just about any dark situation.
 The charger comes with a 1 year warranty but if you register it with i 28 days it will extend your warranty to 3 years, and you get a coupon for a single use 20% any of their products, and 50% off any new releases.
  My husband and I do a lot of day and weekend traveling plus our yearly vacations, this will be great for tossing in our bag and not having to worry about finding some place to charge our phones, cameras, tablets. The USB end can plug into any USB charger, car, electrical, or computer.
The silicone pen holder is great for setting on the desk and keeping the pens all in one place.
My Review: Rooms by Lauren Oliver Audiobook
This is kind of a strange story, it wasn't bad don'g get me wrong. Just different. This book was written from the Ghost's perspective.
The ghost's are Alice who has been in the house the longest and Sandra. Alice was a wife and mother who was abused, Sandra was a drunk. They each lived in the house during different era's in time.
In the time of the book, the house was owned by the recently deceased Richard Walker. His estranged family come to the house in order to claim their inheritance and to deal with Richard's final arrangements. His ex-wife Caroline is a bitter drunk, Trenton his son, is a suicidal teenager who was in a horrible accident, Minna is Richards daughter who is really pretty messed up with the way she thinks and feels towards pretty much everything, and then little Amy, Minna's daughter.
I have to say this was kind of a peculiar (maybe) story. It was not scary even though there were ghosts. But it was a book that you just had to keep reading. Just to see where it all ended.
  I loved the voice of Alice, she sounds like the teacher Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter movies :)
My Review: Once Haunted, Twice Shy (Peyton Clark #2) by H.P. Mallory Audiobook
I listened to the audiobook, and I really enjoyed it. I just wish I had gotten book 1 first. It is a more or less stand alone book, it does make references to book 1 but not so much so that you needed book one to make heads or tails out of this book.
I really liked the characters in the book and the way they came across, and with the audiobook I loved the narrators take on each characters voice, she done a great job. She was really good with the French accent of Drake the ghost.
In the story Peyton Clark is possessed willingly by Drake Montague. Who she is crushing on even though he is a ghost, oh and yea he is crushing back. Drake was a police officer in the early 1900's in New Orleans where this book takes place. He used to also own the house Peyton inherited. This is where book 1 would of came in handy, so you fully knew what the relationships of everyone was.
The supernatural activity is really kicking up and Peyton discovers that the Ax Man (who they thought they got rid of in book 1) is coming back to take out all of New Orleans starting with Peyton. The only way to stop the Ax Man is for Peyton to go back in time to 1920 and take him out. And she will need the help of a flesh and blood Drake.
My Review: Silicone Fried Egg Mold
I was given this fried egg mold fat a huge discount for my honest review. I made eggs for breakfast in order to try this adorable mold. I used large eggs and they fit pretty well, but I think a medium egg would of worked better. Mine did not turn out very neat as the though. But that has nothing to do with the product itself. The silicone was a breeze to clean up, I just kind of swished it around in hot soapy water, really didn't need to use a cloth since nothing stuck to it, then patted it dry with a paper towel. The was no sign of any melting, but then silicone is made to be durable around heat. I really liked this can't wait to see if there are other shapes to come.  Oh and Love that it's BPA free!!
My Review: KabelDirekt (10 feet) Mini HDMI to HDMI Cable
I got this cable free for my honest review.
The Kabeldirekt cable is a lot better then the old one I have, it is much more thicker but yet very felexible. I love the fact that it is 10 feet long so I don't have to set right in front of my television in order to watch home video's off of my movie camera and I have full use of the fast forward, rewind, and start/stop controls all while being comfortable in my chair. It also works great for hooking my tablet to the television.
Check it out on Amazon
My Review: 16 inch Long Handled Shoe Horn
I received this 16 in long handled shoe horn in exchange for my honest review.  This is a nice sturdy shoe horn it's made of stainless steel. It has a large handle end on it for easy grabbing.  the pre drilled hole is also nice for hanging it so you don't loose it. My husband has bad knees and arthritis, he says it is really nice for getting his shoes on, and he really likes that it is long enough to help, not like the shirt ones where he has to bend and twist for them to work. Works great for his boots also.  No more curling the heels up on the shoes. Once the heel is curled in my book they are trash, they are very uncomfortable, this shoe horn will stop that from happening.
My Review: Vetro Glass Screen Protector for Iphone 6
I was given the Vetro Glass screen Protector in exchange for my honest opinion. It was well packaged and very easy to apply. It is virtually invisible on the phone. Unlike other screen protector this one is ultra thin and you don't have to feel like you are gonna break the phone in order to click on something. Like I said it is pretty much invisible and covers from edge to edge. It's very smooth to the touch. It comes with a alcohol wipe to clean your phone screen, a microfiber cloth for buffing your screen with, and then the screen protector sheet, just peel off the plastic cover sheet and carefully place the screen protector on your screen. Seems like it should last a very long time, and protect your investment really well. The shipping was very fast and came in a nice little cardboard envelope type package. Get yours here on Amazon
My Review: The Enterprising Chipmunk [Kindle Edition] By: Gramps Doodlebug
A really cute story about a really resourceful Chipmunk. Khalee is a chipmunk who loves to dig holes but really didn't like hunting for food. He also is a picky eater. One day his parents tell him he needs to stop digging and start hunting for food, so Khalee goes out looking, he comes across a squirrel eating dead bugs, which makes him squeamish, so he keeps walking, he finds some mushrooms and takes them home proud of himself. his parents not so much and they tell him he needs to try again the next day. The next day he finds and picks some sunflower sprouts and takes them home only to find out he stole someone else's food.
Khalee then decides he he will go far away from his home and find some food. He runs into a mouse who gives him some leads on food, as well as helps him some. Khalee ends up outsmarting a fox and a snake but in the end he gets the food he went after.
 Gramps Doodlebug sent me this book for my honest review, and honestly I applaud him for a terrific story. The story would be great for kids between 6 and 10. It also has some great pictures, that might even keep younger kids attention. The adventure is fun but also has a few lessons included.
My Review: ABIGAIL and the North Pole Adventure By: Tali Carmi E-book
Very cute and educational children's story. it is written by Tali Carmi and illustrated by Neda Fuchedzhieva. Neda done a great job with the illustrations in the book, they are really cute, colorful, and get a child's attention.
 Tali wrote a really good story for younger children, I would say ages 2 to 6. In the story Abigail decides to visit the North Pole via her magic book and on her Magic Bicycle, where she meets Siku.
 Siku teaches Abigail  different things about the North Pole. He teaches her about igloos, ice fishing, polar bears and more.
  I am not positive but by doing a Amazon search I found a total of 4 books in Tali Carmi's Abigail series.
 I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
