THE LOOK OF LOVE

Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she's convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?

As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he's home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is--until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love--and protect--her, but will she let him?

FROM THIS MOMENT ON

For thirty-six years, Marcus Sullivan has been the responsible older brother, stepping in to take care of his seven siblings after their father died when they were children. But when the perfectly ordered future he's planned for himself turns out to be nothing but a lie, Marcus needs one reckless night to shake free from it all.

Nicola Harding is known throughout the world by only one name - Nico - for her catchy, sensual pop songs. Only, what no one knows about the twenty-five year old singer is that her sex-kitten image is totally false. After a terrible betrayal by a man who loved fame far more than he ever loved her, she vows not to let anyone else get close enough to find out who she really is...or hurt her again. Especially not the gorgeous stranger she meets at a nightclub, even though the hunger - and the sinful promises - in his dark eyes make her want to spill all her secrets.

CAN’T HELP FALLING IN LOVE

Gabe Sullivan risks his life every day as a firefighter in San Francisco. But after learning a brutal lesson about professional boundaries, he knows better than to risk his heart to his fire victims ever again. Especially the brave mother and daughter he saved from a deadly apartment fire...and can't stop thinking about.

Megan Harris knows she owes the heroic firefighter everything for running into a burning building to save her and her seven-year-old daughter. Everything except her heart. Because after losing her navy pilot husband five years ago, she has vowed to never suffer through loving - and losing - a man with a dangerous job again.

Excerpt One:

Enjoy the following excerpt from THE LOOK OF LOVE...

Chase almost missed the flickering light off on the right side of the two-lane country road. In the past thirty minutes, he hadn’t passed a single car, because on a night like this, most sane Californians—who didn’t know the first thing about driving safely in inclement weather—stayed home.

Knowing better than to slam on the brakes—he wouldn’t be able to help whomever was stranded on the side of the road if he ended up stuck in the muddy ditch right next to them—Chase slowed down enough to see that there was definitely a vehicle stuck in the ditch.

He turned his brights on to see better in the pouring rain and realized there was a person walking along the edge of the road about a hundred yards up ahead. Obviously hearing his car approach, she turned to face him and he could see her long wet hair whipping around her shoulders in his headlights.

Wondering why she wasn’t just sitting in her car, dry and warm, calling Triple A and waiting for them to come save her, he pulled over to the edge of his lane and got out to try and help her. She was shivering as she watched him approach.

"Are you hurt?"

She covered her cheek with one hand, but shook her head. "No."

He had to move closer to hear her over the sound of the water hitting the pavement in what were rapidly becoming hailstones. Even though he’d turned his headlights off, as his eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness, he was able to get a better look at her face.

Something inside of Chase’s chest clenched tight.

Despite the long, dark hair plastered to her head and chest, regardless of the fact that looking like a drowned rat wasn’t too far off the descriptive mark, her beauty stunned him.

In an instant, his photographer’s eye cataloged her features. Her mouth was a little too big, her eyes a little too wide-set on her face. She wasn’t even close to model thin, but given the way her T-shirt and jeans stuck to her skin, he could see that she wore her lush curves well. In the dark he couldn’t judge the exact color of her hair, but it looked like silk, perfectly smooth and straight where it lay over her breasts.

It wasn’t until Chase heard her say, "My car is definitely hurt, though," that he realized he had completely lost the thread of what he’d come out here to do.

Knowing he’d been drinking her in like he was dying of thirst, he worked to recover his balance. He could already see he’d been right about her car. It didn’t take a mechanic like his brother, Zach, who owned an auto shop—more like forty, but Chase had stopped counting years ago—to see that her shitty hatchback was borderline totaled. Even if the front bumper wasn’t half smashed to pieces by the white farm fence she’d slid into, her bald tires weren’t going to get any traction on the mud. Not tonight, anyway.

If her car had been in a less precarious situation, he probably would have sent her to hang out  in her car while he took care of getting it unstuck. But one of her back tires was hanging precariously over the edge of the ditch.

He jerked his thumb over his shoulder. "Get in my car. We can wait there for a tow truck." He was vaguely aware of his words coming out like an order, but the hail was starting to sting, damn it. Both of them needed to get out of the rain before they froze.

But the woman didn’t move. Instead, she gave him a look that said he was a complete and utter nut-job.

"I’m not getting into your car."

Realizing just how frightening it must be for a lone woman to end up stuck and alone in the middle of a dark road, Chase took a step back from her. He had to speak loudly enough for her to hear him over the hail.

"I’m not going to attack you. I swear I won’t do anything to hurt you."

She all but flinched at the word attack and Chase’s radar started buzzing. He’d never been a magnet for troubled women, wasn’t the kind of guy who thrived on fixing wounded birds. But living with two sisters for so many years meant he could always tell when something was up.

And something was definitely up with this woman, beyond the fact that her car was half-stuck in a muddy ditch.

Wanting to make her feel safe, he held his hands up. "I swear on my father’s grave, I’m not going to hurt you. It’s okay to get into my car." When she didn’t immediately say no again, he pressed his advantage with, "I just want to help you." And he did. More than it made sense to want to help a stranger. "Please," he said. "Let me help you."

She stared at him for a long moment, hail hammering between them, around them, onto them. Chase found himself holding his breath, waiting for her decision. It shouldn’t matter to him what she decided.

But, for some strange reason, it did.

Excerpt:

Nina

My jeans were
scorched in places, so Tanner lent me a black T-shirt and helped me into the
single pair of panties I owned, fresh out of the dryer. I was clean and my hair
was combed and almost dried. My knees were still shaking from the orgasm, but
on the upside, I didn’t have to walk far. Aiden insisted on carrying me down
the stairs. The smells of bacon and biscuits scented the house and sent my
stomach into a growling fit.
Aiden looked down on me and cocked
his broken eyebrow. “Hungry?”
            I flashed an apologetic grin.
“Starving.”
“No worries.” He settled me on a
stool by the kitchen island and went over to the huge fridge. “We’ve got you
covered.”
Wow. When was
the last time someone said that to me?
A quiet beep lit
up over the discreetly paneled door that slid aside to reveal Tanner, leaning
on his crutches, shuffling out of the elevator. “Ready to chow?” He winked at
me and then joined Aiden and Zar at the kitchen counter, picking out cutlery
from one of the drawers.
I caught an
excellent view of three very nicely built backsides, broad shoulders, tapered
waists, asses chiseled from granite. Holy hell. These hunks made menial kitchen
work look like a sexy, seductive dance.
I fanned my
burning face with my bandaged hand. “Can I help with something?”
“No need,”
Tanner said. “Sit tight.”
Zar was parked in front of the
stove, firmly in charge of some gigantic omelets, plus a pan of bacon and the
biscuits he maneuvered out of the oven. A distinguished touch of silver frosted
his fair hair at the temples. It had to be premature gray, because he was
otherwise too young and fit. Or else he worried too much. Yeah, that could be.
He glanced over
his shoulder. His eyes were startling. His irises were a shocking color, azure
flecked with Lapis. I couldn’t decide whether his gaze reminded me of the
oldest glaciers in the world or the flame’s hottest fire. A million questions
gleamed in his stare. He considered me as if he was debating whether he should
send me to the corner or spank me. If I had a choice, number two, please.
Balthazar Flint.
The name suited him to perfection. It had gravitas. It also matched his
demeanor, down to the hard edges of his powerful body. It occurred to me that,
in another life, I could’ve been the steel to his flint and we would’ve made
lots of sparks. Dream on, girl. Like that could ever happen.
Zar transferred
the last of the omelets to the plates and Aiden plunked a cup of tea in front
of me, Earl Grey with lots of cream. Before I had time to ask Aiden how he’d
known exactly what I liked in my tea, Tanner picked up the mug and tipped it
against my lips. I took a deep draft, enjoying the sweet heat that warmed my
stomach and spread to the rest of me. The four of us sat at the kitchen
counter, facing our loaded plates. After examining my right hand, I was about
to give the utensils a try, when Aiden beat me to the fork.
“I promised I’d be your hands when
you needed me.” He speared a chunk of eggs and lifted them to my lips. “You
need me.”
So freaking
sweet. Panty-melting cute. “Thanks,” I mumbled through a mouthful. Had I died
and gone to heaven?
I chewed my
food, enjoying every bite, studying the men as I did. These guys were military
or ex-military, like my brother had been. They spoke, moved, and acted like
trained warriors. Tanner had admitted to training as a corpsman and Aiden had
mentioned they’d designed the house while they were on deployment. I had to get
to Ulysses, but I couldn’t help being fascinated by the remarkable trio that
had taken me in.
I stole a glance
at Tanner. At six feet or so, he was the shortest of the three, tall to my five
foot five. Fit and compact like a soccer player, he was a head-turner. The
striking contrast between his smooth, dark olive skin and his light green eyes
gave him an exotic flair that conjured images of distant shorelines, sun-kissed
dunes, and fabulous spice markets.
There was no
question that Tanner appealed to me. What he’d just done to my body challenged
my skepticism at every level. With his chiseled chin, his body’s perfect
proportions and his hair, cropped in a clean, sharp cut that spiraled from the
cowlick at the back of his head, he should be strutting some runaway in Milan.
My gaze shifted
to Aiden. His size alone should’ve made him lumber and yet when he moved, he
did so elegantly and efficiently, as if he’d trained his body to function in a
world that didn’t always fit him. Aiden looked like a basketball player. Or an
Olympic swimmer. The scar that nicked his eyebrow gave character to his face
and the curls and facial scruff added a roguish touch that reminded me of
pirates and Vikings. I bet he’d taken a few shield maidens to Valhalla.
My eyes went to
Zar, downing his food with automatic precision. Height-wise, he was somewhere
in between Tanner and Aiden, but he was built like an NFL linebacker. His
muscular neck was made to carry the weight of a dangerous world. His solid pecs
could serve to bulldoze entire armies. His thighs were as brawny as the beams
that held up the house. When he glared at me as he was doing now, I had to
repress an impulse to kneel at his feet and ask for mercy.
“You got enough
in you to talk?” He set down his fork and nailed me with his skull-piercing
gaze. “The sooner we deal with this, the better.”
He was right and
I needed to get back on track.

Interview with Anna del Mar

T: You are known for your bestselling romantic suspense. Why do you write erotic romance?

AdM: You are absolutely right. Most people are familiar with my romantic suspense novels, The Asset andThe Stranger. But I also love to write erotic romance for my more audacious readers, novels like At the BrinkTo the Edge and now Beyond the Rules.

My erotic romance novels feature sizzling, heart-warming romances and graphic, kinky, really intense sex scenes. But they also have a strong element of suspense, intricate plots, and characters who matter in and out of bed. Whether I’m writing romantic suspense or erotic romance, quality matters.

I write erotic romance because I think that sex is an important, natural part of our lives that should be celebrated, not suppressed. I’m always shocked by how we—as a society—continue to be so repressed and repressive on the topic of sex. We are constantly projecting sexual and sexualized images in all of our media and yet most aspects of sex continue to be taboo. Why? Let’s talk about! Let’s embrace sex in all of its positive expressions.

In my erotic romance, sex is a good thing—cathartic, transformative, healing; fun and panty-melting hot, but also meaningful. In the context of love, sex is a sublime subject.

T: Your latest release, Beyond the Rules, is a ménage a quatre. Why a ménage and how was it different to write?

AdM: I love to explore sex and love in all of its forms. Beyond the Rules is a ménage that features three very sexy, brawny alphas and their mission to conquer one woman’s heart. In the story, Nina Leon is a brilliant hacker who crash-lands in the rugged mountains of Montana while fleeing from a deadly enemy and a painful past. She runs straight into the arms of three hot, brave, mysterious ex-SEALs who have an agreement to share everything. And now, that includes her.

Writing a ménage meant I had to juggle four POVs, four completely different characters, and four different approaches to life, romance, and sex. But, hey, I do love a challenge. I really enjoyed writing three very distinct alpha males, Tanner Vazquez, Aiden Black, and Zar Flint. I loved getting into their heads and understanding who they were and why. Each guy has his own set of strengths and weaknesses, traits and quirks. Each guy is attracted to Nina and appeals to her in a different way. And each man is eye candy in every way.

In addition, each guy has his own very specific sexual preferences. Aiden’s generally vanilla, Tanner’s flexible, Zar is all about kink. Variety only added layers to the story, fun, sexy, supremely erotic layers that caught this novel on fire.

T: How does Beyond the Rules fit in with the rest of your work?

AdM: Beyond the Rules is in the vein of At the Brink and To the Edge. The cool thing about all of my novels is that you don’t have to read them in any particular order. If you’ve read the other novels you may recognize a character here or there, but you won’t be missing a thing.

T: What’s your next project?

AdM: Next up, it’s The Guardian, a romantic suspense that releases very soon, October 1stThe Guardianis about ex-SEAL turned game warden, Matthias Hawking, who is engaged in a fierce battle to end poaching in Africa. But when a beautiful journalist defies the poachers, he will do everything in his power to protect Jade Romo, the woman who has captured his heart. I think readers of romantic suspense are going to love Matthias Hawking and the fiery Jade Romo. Take a peek, here! And while you’re at it, take a look at Beyond the Rules first chapter.

With the high-stakes game of war looming over them, will Red be able to open her heart to love before outside forces pull her and Repo apart?

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

The bastard had fallen asleep on her couch. Ginger glared daggers at his skull, willing him to wake up before she resorted to violence. He couldn’t sleep there!

But he was also so peaceful looking, she couldn’t bear to wake him.

Oh, the struggles of a single, horny woman!

The options were many, including but not limited to, hitting him over the head with a throw pillow. But that handsome face, so gentle and sweet in repose, was killer on her heartstrings. There was only one answer to why she was even debating it, and it was that she was going soft.

How many men had she kicked to the curb over the years? Dozens. Granted, they’d all been at the compound, because she flat out refused to allow men into her apartment, but still. A room was a room, and personal space was personal space.

And Repo was Repo.

Correction: Garrick.

He was a stubborn fool on his best day, and besides…she liked him. Kind of. Maybe.

Okay, she did. A lot.

But he didn’t have to know that!

She found herself staring at his mouth. Those shapely lips, outlined by a beard so soft and white it often earned him references to Santa Claus, had been between her legs last night, giving her such pleasure she’d thought she’d go blind.

The memory itself gave her shivers.

She shouldn’t, but she wanted more.

Touching her own fingers to her lips, she remembered the way his felt on hers, and even further back to when his body had had hers. They’d been together multiple times over the years, but none were as memorable as that one night so long ago. It was so hard not to relive it, and she’d spent years trying. The problem was, Garrick was a man who left an impression. Everywhere he went. It was the reason so many women fell to their knees before him—literally. Once you had a taste of Garrick Stone, everyone else was a poor substitution.

Flower Readings, Book One
Publisher: Soul Mate Publishing
Published May 2017

Triena lives on an outback moon earning a living by offering flower readings for customers. Cast out from the Queens, the Energy Readers, Triena wants to return, but the only way to do that is to kill Braklen and use his energy to look into the future.

Braklen, a Peacekeeper with the Queens, arrives at the Triena’s Tea House. He doesn’t realize the danger he is in when he sits down for a flower reading.

Triena sees her chance to kill Braklen by using the potency in flower buds. The Energy guides her hand, and instead, the suppressed feelings toward Braklen surface.

Can she kill the man she loves?

Excerpt

Braklen looked down into the bowl full of gray something that was meant to be food.
“I wouldn’t eat that, man,” said a fellow evening-shift worker sitting opposite Braklen.
Despite the warning, Braklen dunked a spoon into the thick broth. “Can’t be too bad.” He spooned the greasy liquid with gray floating bits into his mouth. He choked.
The other man laughed, slapping his hand down on the metal table. “You’ll get used to it.”
Braklen coughed as the last of the liquid went down. “Tastes like jet fuel.”
“Wouldn’t put it past the cook to put some in. He probably thinks that it’d give us a boost to work harder.”
“How can you eat it?” Braklen’s spoon was poised above the liquid, but he couldn’t bring himself to take another mouthful. This was a long-haul flight and the bowl of slop was the only thing to eat. He’d just finished a twelve-hour shift in the engine room trying to repair the electronics in the backup system that were so worn out and old, it should’ve been thrown out instead. It was the first ship that accepted his qualifications as a mechanical engineer. He’d boarded, wanting to get as far away as possible from Triena.
His heart lurched, skipping beats, then contracting, causing pain to spread out across his chest. He knew he shouldn’t have boarded, or left her unconscious on the ground. But, since the chip had been deactivated, there was no point hanging around. She didn’t really want me there, not really.
The guy shrugged his shoulders, scrapping the last of the broth onto the spoon and delivered it into his mouth. “I’m already pretty thin. I’ll fade away if I don’t eat.”
Braklen laughed. “Hasn’t anyone complained?”
His men put up with a lot when he was in charge but he would’ve had an uprising if they’d ever had this food from the galley. Emptiness clawed at his gut at the reminder he didn’t command a unit of Peacekeepers anymore. Worse, he was now a wanted man.
He’d contemplated taking Triena with him, turning her in to the authorities and begging to be reinstated. But, much as he wanted his life back, that wasn’t an option. It was clear he’d been set up, a pawn for them to use to get to her. She’ll be better off without me. Safer without me.
