by A.M. Griffin
Genre: YA Dystopian
Release date: June 7th 2016
Summary:
In many ways, my life is complete, or as complete as it can be with aliens roaming Earth, killing and enslaving humans. Jason, my love, is by my side, and my friendship with Wade is back on track. Even better, it seems the threats of annihilation from the aliens have turned out to be nothing but hot air.
Yet, despite the peace of our Arrowwood refuge, there is still a war waging outside, something I’ve tried not to think too much about. Just as I’ve ignored the fact that a sanctuary can also be a prison, or a tomb, we are forced to step out of safety and live or die, in danger’s embrace.
Book One:
Against the Darkness (Cimmerian Moon #1)
by A.M. Griffin
Genre: YA Dystopian
Summary:
This one time, at band camp…aliens invaded earth. Sounds like a bad riff on an old joke, doesn’t it? Unfortunately for me and my friends, it’s all too true. I thought a mess like this only happened in the movies but, as I watch the alien ships hovering over the major cities, I suddenly realize I’m a thousand miles away from my Mom. From home. From safety.
Darkness may have fallen over the world, but I won’t let it claim me. I’ll do anything I have to get back to Michigan. Yet nothing could prepare me for what we find on our trek north from Tallahassee. There’s hardly anything the aliens haven’t bombed. Survival, at any cost, is the name of the game for the few people who haven’t been killed or captured. As if trying to stay free and alive isn’t enough, I think I just met the love of my life. And he’s just the kind of bad boy who’ll tear down the walls I’ve built around my heart—then break it.
Book Two:
The Ashes That Remain (Cimmerian Moon #2)by A.M. Griffin
Genre: YA Dystopian
Summary:
We’re at war against the aliens that have invaded Earth, fighting the only way we can—by surviving. I have more than most people do, but although I know it’s stupid to hold on, I can’t let go of what might have been—can’t help dreaming of something more. No matter how I tell myself it would be easier to do what everyone else wants me to, there’s a part of me that can’t give in.
Making the best of the situation is one thing. Settling, even to make other people happy, is something else.
Then we hear the alien mother ships have disappeared. Of course we have to go and investigate. What we find lands us in a huge mess that we somehow have to clean up and, as our little enclave is rocked to the core with even more changes, I’m learning a hard lesson.
The more things change—for the better or the worse—there’s no fighting human nature, and building on the ashes that remain will take everything we have. And maybe more.

Excerpt #4
Numb.
That’s how I feel, if it can even be described as a feeling.
Dead.
Maybe that’s a better choice. I’m dead inside.
The conversation about what we’ve seen goes on without my input. It doesn’t matter because I have nothing to add. Every now and then Jason comes over to give me a reassuring hug or to ask if I’m all right. He’s doing his best to comfort everyone, not just me. Staying just long enough for me to nod, Jason is off to check on MJ, my mom, Ian, Mia and Lexi. Rocky seems to be holding it together, but everyone else, besides him and Jason, have pretty much lost it.
“We have to leave now,” I hear Rocky say for what I think is the tenth time.
“No, we have to look around some more to see if there are any survivors. They can be hiding somewhere, hurt. They might need medical attention,” my mom says. Her words come out in a rush.
While Rocky has tried to get us all to pack and leave in broad daylight, my mom has dug in her heels. She wants us to go back out, but this time she wanted to go too so that she could help find anyone who might need her.
“Di,” Rocky begins, his voice almost begging. “Please listen to reason. They saw Anna and Dante’s carcasses. They…they found Hati’s dog tags. We have to assume the worst.”
“They saw Anna and Dante’s clothes and some bones.” My mom says with a shake of her head. “We can’t assume that it was them. I won’t.” Determination pours through her voice.
Rocky reaches out to hold my mom’s arms. “Honey, you haven’t been out here in a while. You haven’t seen what we’ve seen. They’re gone.”
My mom’s body shakes as she lets out small cries of agony. She loses her balance. Swaying to the side, she falls. Rocky catches her in his arms before she hits the floor.
I close my eyes and rest my forehead on my knees, tightening my arms around my legs. Small whimpers escape my lips as I rock on my heels and butt. Winston presses his body close to mine, trying to offer me comfort. The contents of my breakfast rise to the back of my throat, the acid burning as it makes its way up. I take deep gulps to swallow it down.
I’ve seen dead bodies, lots of them, but this…this is different. I watched as animals ate at Anna—or what was left of her—and poor Dante; his bones lay scattered not too far from where the animals were feasting on Anna. His little bones had been picked clean. The only way to tell who it had been was by recognizing his little blue t-shirt with a sun on it. He’d been the Wizard of Oz in our play and he’d wanted to wear it because of the sun representing that he was all-powerful. The shirt had been tattered and ripped apart and tangled on the bones of his rib cage.
A louder sob makes me choke.
My fingers bite into my jeans. My nails dig past the material to reach my skin. It is painful, but I welcome it. The pain makes me feel alive.Amazon│Barnes & Noble│iTunes│Kobo
