Mandy Hemphill is living her dream, running the successful Rose Cottage Cafe in Orchardville, Texas, from the ground floor of a converted, old—and possibly haunted—downtown home. She even had plans to grow her business with a new outdoor patio…if only the mayor wouldn’t have turned her down.
So when the beloved mayor is found murdered, Mandy finds herself among the suspects. And now business at the cafe is dropping faster than a fallen soufflé. How can she prove her innocence and save the Rose Cottage Cafe?
Thankfully Ben, the new owner of The Orchardville Gazette, doesn’t believe she’s guilty. As the two of them set out to find the real killer, they uncover one small-town lie after the next. But the closer they get to learning the truth about who killed the mayor, the more in danger they find themselves.
My Review:
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read which was really nice since I have been kind of busy lately. The story was great with no boring parts for me. There was not tons of description and I really liked that. I love it when author's give you just enough to make things and places give you an idea but don't over power the story with filling you in on details that have nothing to do with the story.
The books main characters are Mandy who owns the Rose Cottage Cafe, and Ben a new comer to town who is starting his own local newspaper, and of course the biggest part of the story is about the murder of Mayor William Walter's. Mandy is on the suspect list since she was upset with the Mayor for not allowing her to add on a patio to her restaurant, and she didn't mind letting people know she was mad about it. Ben and Mandy team up to do some amateur detective work to try to find the real killer and clear Mandy's name.
My biggest let down in the book was there was made mention of Wilcox, the resident ghost at the Rose Cottage Cafe but he did not get a part in the book at all. I kept waiting for him to do something. He was almost like a forgotten part of the story. Yes I know the book was not a paranormal story, but since he was mentioned I would of liked to see him have a part of the book. Other then Wilcox's missing part I really enjoyed the book.
