I do not often get sick but it seems like every time I do I am almost bed ridden. I don't get little annoying summer colds, when I get sick I get the nasty ones. Fever's. chill's. coughing. stuffy nose, the whole 9 yards. I know I have a temperature but a lot of thermometers take forever to give you the results this one will give you results in 20 to 30 seconds. I love that with the kids it is hard to get the to set still for a couple of minutes waiting. This one reads in both Celsius and Fahrenheit. It has a waterproof casing, so it can be washed after each use. It will not do much good to take it out of your sick mouth ad put it back in about the time you are getting over it. Germs are bad, and a damp cloth will not get them all so being waterproof is a great thing. This has a bendable tip on it, for little ones this is a must have, they are sick and do not feel like having a thermometer stuck under their arm and are fighting a stiff thermometer could hurt them during this fight, this one will not. This one seems very accurate also, I used this one and then another one I have and they came out the same.
