I am actually loving these shoe laces. I have carpal tunnel in my right hand am awaiting surgery. Simple things like tieing shoe laces have become not so simple. With these laces you lace your shoes like normal, feel the lock onto them, then trim to desired left over length, add the cap on the end and you are done. To loosen and tighten the laces you just push the button then either pull away from your foot or push the lock towards your foot. The come in multiple colors which is awesome because I can match them to my shoes instead of having black laces on my white shoes, in the pictures I have the pictured that way for the benefit of the picture. These are great and if you are like me and toss your shoes in the washer, you don't really have to remove them. They are made of elastic and very stretchy. I would not trim the laces for a few days until you are very sure of the length you need once they stretch a bit.
