Mated with the Cyborg
by Cara Bristol

GENRE: Sci-fi Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Then he met her.
Mariska. Beautiful. Innocent. Ignorant of her father’s atrocities. And marked
for death.
His orders said nothing
about saving her. But he did. He went off-mission.
Can a rogue cyborg
outrun both Cyber Operations and the terrorists to save the woman he loves?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
Mariska’s dress dragged along the metal floor as she headed
for the general’s receiving room. People glanced at R981, but the android could
have been alone for all the notice they paid her. Her veil seemed to render her
invisible.
If only she could truly disappear. Years had passed since
the last summons. Why had her father called her? Perspiration slickened her
palms, and she had to concentrate to avoid wiping them and leaving a telltale
stain on her clothing. The only thing worse than being afraid was showing it.
At least her voluminous skirt hid her wobbling knees. Outside her father’s
fortified headquarters, she halted and took a deep breath. I can do this. I can
do this.
“You are nervous,” stated R981 in his stilted, but gravelly
voice. No other android had vocals like his. His rumbling tone vibrated through
her in a most disturbing way.
“No, I’m not,” she quickly refuted. Fear was a flaw. Flaws
were punished. Although R981 was assigned to her, he had been programmed to
report misbehavior and anomalies to her father.
The solid black orbs of his robotic eyes blinked once. “I
detect pupil constriction, increased perspiration and respiration, which
indicate fear.”
“I believe you are mistaken and require a full diagnostic.
How long has it been since your last maintenance overhaul?”
“I am a new model entered into service five weeks ago. I do
not require maintenance for another fifty-five point four days.”
She needed to shore up her courage, but R981 pulled open the
door, making it clear he served her father. Just like the other droids.

A AWESOME Interview with Cara Bristol:
What was the inspiration
for your book?
I started the series because I fell in love with
cyborgs. Human with computer enhancements,
cyborgs make awesome sci-fi romance heroes. They are alpha males, yet they
become vulnerable when they meet the heroine. When they fall in love, they fall
hard. Most of the cyborgs sci-fi romances I’ve read involve conspiracies in
which the cyborgs were created against their will to serve the government. I
wanted to do something different. My cyborgs are spies; they’re covert cyber operatives
whose mission is to defeat terrorism in the galaxy, which was inspired by
modern day threats. In book one, Stranded
with the Cyborg, I introduce the enemy. In book two, Mated with the Cyborg, I wanted to challenge the hero by having him
fall in love with the “enemy” (the heroine is the enemy’s innocent daughter).
Book 3, Captured by the Cyborg, will
be published probably in March 2016.
What is your writing
schedule?
When I’m writing on a new book, I do about 2,000 words per day (eight
pages). I hit the computer about 5:30 a.m., spend an hour checking email, responding
to comments on my blog, Facebook, and then get to work. My day involves more
than writing the current manuscript. I also have to balance editing,
proofreading, blogging, promotion. I try to only write one first draft at a
time, but often while I’m writing a new book, I’m in editing on another, and
I’m doing promotion for the last release. I work from about 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A little less on weekends.
What is your favorite
spot to write?
I have my own dedicated home office. Yay! My husband I used to share an
office and a computer, but once I started writing erotic romance, I needed the
solitude of my own space. Now I have it. We live on a fairly rural street, and
my office window looks out into the front yard. I see trees and open field,
squirrels, the occasional deer.
What advice would you
give budding writers?
1.
Learn your craft. Focus on improving your
writing. Get feedback. Join a critique group, enter contests. Read and study
your genre of choice.
2.
Start building your social network early so when
you do get published you have a social platform and aren’t starting from zero.
Start a blog. Connect with other writers. Build your Twitter and Facebook
following.
3.
Know that you have many options for publishing.
You can go traditional (agent, New York publisher), epublishing, or Indie. You
can be a hybrid—have some books with a publisher and self-publish others.
