BLURB:
These
are the facts: My name is Callie Sinclair. I am seventeen years old. I live in
San Francisco. I love my boyfriend, Charlie. I work for a secret governmental
agency. I am a psychic spy. This romantic, action-packed twist on the classic
spy novel is perfect for fans of Ally Carter’s Embassy Row series or for any
reader who enjoys cinematic writing and stories of romance and intrigue.
At seventeen, Callie is
the government’s youngest psychic spy, trained to track dangerous people and
weapons in her visions. When another young—and handsome and witty—psychic joins
the agency, Callie’s personal and professional lives get messy all at once. If
she can’t find a way to change the events she’s seen in her visions, she could
lose the people she loves most . . . and her mind. Literally.
Richly painted against
the backdrop of San Francisco and Berkeley, Lauren Sabel’s enthralling novel
captures the thrill of exploring a unique power in a dangerous world.

EXCERPTS (Exclusive Excerpt):
There are some clichés that are true.
One of them is that people are like books, full of adventure
and romance and dark moments. But if we are all books, my book is more fiction
than nonfiction. Even the index is all lies; each chapter is invented to make
me look like a normal girl.
The truth is that I’m the kind of book most people never
open. I don’t blame them, not really. According to my boyfriend, Charlie, I
don’t allow anyone to get close enough to me to let them peek inside. Unlike
him. Charlie is one of those people with nothing to hide. He assumes the world
is an open book, a place where all is revealed if we just read it. That’s one
of the things I love about him.
He’s easy to lie to.
These are the basic facts about me:
I am seventeen.
I live in San Francisco.
I work for a secret government agency.
I spend many hours a day out of my mind.
I am a psychic spy.

Lauren
Sabel lives in the quirky dark spaces of her mind, and she tries to shed light
on these spaces in her books. After publishing VIVIAN DIVINE IS DEAD in Summer
2014 with Katherine Tegen Books, an imprint of Harper Collins, she confronted
her lifelong fear of being psychic by writing OUT OF MY MIND. Since in this YA
thriller, teenage psychic spy Callie Sinclair works undercover for the
government, forced to hide her real identity from everyone she loves, Lauren is
now certain she’s on the CIA watch list.

ReplyDeleteHave you considered writing in another genre?
ReplyDeleteI love writing picture books. I find it incredibly fun to dig into the mind of a 5 year old!
DeleteDo you ever suffer from writer’s block and, if so, how do you overcome it?
ReplyDeleteYes, I do occasionally. When it happens, I do the following:
DeleteCry.
Take a long hot bath.
Go for a long walk.
Eat chocolate.
Drink mochas.
Talk myself into believing in myself again.
Writer's Block is just Self Doubt-- and once we get past that, we are no longer blocked.
I was wondering when you knew you wanted to be a writer?
ReplyDeleteI knew I wanted to be a writer when I was seven years old. That was when I fell in love with words, and their power to create stories that took me to faraway places. I've been following that path ever since.
DeleteSounds like a great read.
