Book Description:
The dazzling lure of Olympic gold fame is a spotlight glare hotter than any fifteen minutes of fame. During plans for a cross-country ski vacation, Aspen Police Department Criminal Investigation Division Detective David “Spinner” Krespinak and SEAL-bud Craige Ingram are ensnared by glamour, upmarket glitz and bling, and greed in the deadly champagne powder world of a money-gets-you-anything high-country ski-mecca. Body parts start turning up in the most unlikely places. As the two friends start their investigation, A hornet's nest of the local elite do not want the publicity. For good reason it seems, they may be part of the mystery of bodies and body parts piling up at the morgue.
The closer they get to the killer, the more confused they become. Who is behind the murders and mutilation? The list of suspects grows as they close the net on the killer. The tender underbelly of Aspen is not what it seems. It is a raw open sore that oozes blood, drugs, and murder.

My Review:
Dead Gold by Hawk MacKinney is the 4th book in the Moccasin Hollow Mystery Series. Not only is this book but the whole series is filled chock full of action, adventure, mystery and suspense. Even though this is a series they are more or less stand alones. There are a few references to the other books in the series but each book is a separate story. There is a lot of the backstory at the beginning of the book so it is a slow start but once you are caught up the story really takes off.
This book features Craige Ingram and his friend Spinner Krespinak as the main characters. Craig decides to take a vacation and spend some time visiting with his friend Spinner in Aspen Colorado. Instead of down time though he walks into a murder investigation where the body count is rising. He offers to help Spinner with the investigation. Spinner is a Police Detective. Reluctantly at first but finally Spinner accepts Craige's help to solve the mystery before they body count gets any higher.
This book is full of twists and turns, every time I thought I had the killer figured out, something came up to change my mind.

CRAIGE INGRAM’S UNBREAKABLE FRIENDSHIP WITH
SEAL BUD ‘SPINNER’ KRESPINAK
Soon as he received the advance record and checked the details of the UCMJ disciplinary action of no-compromise David Wellington `Spinner' Krespinak, OIC Craige Ingram kept his eye on Krespinak for unit Executive Officer. Settling in for their BlackOps buzzcuts and drawing their SEAL field gear, plus there was no grumbling about their shackled quarters…unit even got tighter’n after some senior officer snafus with the loss of Darrell Maddox during the night-action off Lastovo Island. OIC Craige Howelle Graeme Roynane Ingram knew XO Krespinak had been a good decision.
After active duty Craige went back to his ancestral home, Moccasin Hollow, and his part-time private investigations. Meanwhile, Kaintuck and Texican Spinner Krespinak accepted a position with the Aspen and Pitkin County constabularies. Both Craige and Spinner held pilot licenses, and along with Craige’s private jet kept up their close friendship through vacations or other wild excursions on the Aspen champagne powder or cross-country backpacking on the Rocky Mountains.
In Dead Gold Craige jets to Colorado to join Spinner for some much-needed vacation time. However, their plans for downhill powder and a cross-country sojourn quickly collide with murder, blackmail, greed and the ugly underside that falls into Spinner’s bailiwick. The two team up against all manner of twists-double-twists that threatens both their lives with bullets and betrayals from the mundane to the macabre. And through it all, each man has the other’s back. Their friendship stronger than ever.
