When They Come Calling by Sarah Fleming Mountford
4*
This was a very good story. I really enjoyed it. Dr. Anna Roberts works for an inner city clinic during the day and banishes ghosts occasionally at night. On her way home one night she is nearly run over by a beer truck. In jump Jed. He pushes Anna out of the way of the truck and saves her life.
Anna allows Jed to come home with her thinking he is homeless. Now I personally do not think any single woman would do this no matter the reason, but anyway she does. Ghosts start coming to kill Anna almost immediately. She is actually super powerful when it comes to crossing ghosts over. But there is another reason they want her gone. With her gone they can take over the world. Also Jed is not homeless he is actually there to help Anna end this war so to speak.
Now for my thoughts. There is a lot of description in this book. A bit to much at times. Other then that I did enjoy the book. There is a mix of paranormal, mystery, suspense, and fantasy. The characters are well thought out and played. There are only a couple characters that do not end up with large parts int he book. That I really liked. I do not like books with tons of characters who give nothing to the story. I do feel that the story was a bit drug out in parts. Jed could of explained the reasoning in the attacks at once instead of bits and pieces here and there. Yea the book may of been shorter, but some things could of turned out different.
The audiobook is Elizabeth Saydah. This is my first book narrated by Elizabeth. She does very well with the different voices, but I do wish she had put more feeling into the voice of Anna. Anna's voice just kind of dragged along. Although I enjoyed this book, I do feel it would of been better if Anna had been more lively, it just felt like she was bored or depressed.
