Tagline: Santa Muerte followers discover the horrifying consequences of worshipping with evil intentions.
Book Description:
When an enigmatic town doctor saves the life of Anisa Worthington’s dying son, she abandons Christianity in favor of devotion to the cult of Santa Muerte or Saint Death. Some believe the mysterious skeleton saint will protect your loved ones; help in matters of the heart; provide abundant happiness, health, wealth and justice. But others, including the Catholic Church, call it blasphemous, evil and satanic.
Anisa introduces Saint Death to troubled Catholic friend Helen Randon and strange things begin happening. One of Helen’s enemies is brutally murdered and residents of Montague, a peaceful little town in Prince Edward Island, begin plotting to rid the Bible belt of apostates.
Anisa suspects Helen is perverting the good tenets of Santa Muerte but, before she can act, a terrible nightmare propels her to the Dominican Republic in search of Freaky Franky, her long-lost and unstable brother, who mysteriously disappeared without a trace twenty years ago.
To her horror, Anisa learns Freaky Franky is also worshiping Santa Muerte with evil intentions. As a fanatical and hell-bent lynch mob tightens the noose, mysterious murders begin occurring all around Anisa. Unsure about who’s an enemy and who’s an ally, she’s thrust into a violent battle to save her life as well as the lives of her unpredictable friends and brother.

Interview with William Blackwell
Where do you get inspiration for your stories?
I travel to the Dominican Republic often for inspiration. Many of my novels are set in the DR, and third-world culture never ceases to amaze and interest me. I live in the country on forty-five acres. My property has a beautiful forest, awe-inspiring wildlife and a spectacular beach. That works. I also get inspired by people, places, news stories, novels, documentaries and horror movies. Probably my biggest inspiration comes from my nightmares. Often I wake up with a complete story outline in mind and write it down quickly before it vanishes.
How did you do research for your book?
For Freaky Franky, a horror novel exploring the horrifying consequences of worshiping Santa Muerte with evil intentions, I interviewed devotees, read the most scholarly books I could find on the subject, surfed the internet ad nauseam, and watched dozens of YouTube videos and documentaries.
Do you have another profession besides writing?
I work part-time as a real estate agent. Most of my focus now is on novel writing and my real estate business is limited to referring clients to Calgary associates. I generate leads through my client data base and real estate websites. As time passes, real estate is becoming a smaller and smaller part of my life. With any luck, by next year, I’ll be turning in my license entirely and turning to writing full-time.
If you could go back in time, where would you go?
It’s a difficult question. I think if I had a choice I’d rather put myself in a cryonic state and be resurrected in the future, maybe fifty years ahead. It would be interesting to see where the world would be then, not to mention my novels. Maybe I’d wake up and discover I’m a New York Times best-selling author and suddenly have to deal with millions of fans and groupies. It would be an interesting wake-up call to find myself running away from the lime-light instead of dashing headlong directly into it only to realize material success is not what it’s cracked up to be. Make for a great novel, wouldn’t it?
What is your next project?
Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of research and writing a lot of blog posts on sleep disorders, including lucid dreaming, sleep paralysis, sleepwalking and night terrors. I’ve even researched and written about sexsomnia, where a sleeping person has sex, sometimes with an unwilling partner, and wakes up with absolutely no recollection of it. In my mind’s eye, I see a deeply disturbed male protagonist whose life is unravelling because he suffers from one—if not all—of these disorders.
Thank you for taking the time to interview me. I appreciate it immensely.
Thanks so much for the promotion. Have a great day. Awesome website!
