When Lucy Berberian quits her Philadelphia law firm and heads home to Ocean Crest, she knows what she’s getting—the scent of funnel cake, the sight of the wooden roller coaster, and the tastes of her family’s Mediterranean restaurant. But murder wasn’t on the menu . . .
Things are slow in the off-season in this Jersey Shore town, but Lucy doesn’t mind. She doesn’t even mind waitressing at the Kebab Kitchen. Her parents have put in a new hummus bar, with every flavor from lemon to roasted red pepper. It’s fun to see their calico cat again, and to catch up with her old BFF, who’s married to a cop now.
She could do without Heather Banks, though. The Gucci-toting ex-cheerleader is still as nasty as she was back in high school . . . and unfortunately, she’s just taken over as the local health inspector. Just minutes after eating at the Kebab Kitchen—where she’s tallied up a whole list of bogus violations—she falls down dead in the street. Word on the grapevine is it’s homicide, and Lucy’s the number one suspect . . .
Recipes included!

 Excerpt 2
Hummus and Homicide
By Tina Kashian

Heather left the kitchen and returned to the dining room where she spotted the new hummus bar in the corner. She studied it for a long moment and walked its perimeter. “What type of salad bar is this?”

“It’s not. It’s a hummus bar,” Lucy told the new health inspector. “All different varieties. Customers love it.”

Heather pulled out a measuring tape from her purse. She scribbled dimensions down on her note pad. When she was finished, she looked at Lucy. “The sneeze guard is too low.”

“Too low? I thought the only concern was if it was too high and people could accidentally sneeze into the food.”

Heather shot her a haughty look. “We’ve revised the regulations. And I personally dislike salad bars.”

“Like I said, it’s not a salad bar.”

She snorted as she tore off a carbon copy from her clipboard and handed it to Lucy. “See that all these violations are immediately remedied.”

Anxiety spurted through Lucy as she studied the paper. “These are all absurd!”

Heather’s eyes narrowed. “Excuse me?”

“These are bogus violations and you know it.”

“I know no such thing.”

“Is this because of our little tiff today at the bar or does it go way back to our high school years?”

Heather’s eyes narrowed to slits. “I don’t know what you’re suggesting.”

“Kebab Kitchen hasn’t been cited for a single health violation in thirty years,” Lucy snapped.

Heather’s lips curved into a malicious smirk. “There’s always a first. See that the violations are remedied or I’ll have the place closed down. You have seven days.” She turned on her heel and stalked out of the restaurant.

Lucy’s heart hammered as she stood clutching the carbon copy in her fist. She barely heard their line cook, Butch, approach.

“What’s wrong, Lucy Lou? Is it the inspection?”

She shook her head. “I’ve dealt with a lot of difficult clients over the years, but I can’t remember the last time I’ve wanted to strangle someone.”

“That bad?”

“What’s so bad?” another voice chimed in.

Lucy and Butch turned at the sound of her father’s voice.

She dreaded telling him the news. “We didn’t do so well with the new health inspector.”

Her dad held out his hand for the inspection report. “Let me see.” His olive eyes widened and his face turned a mottled scarlet as he read. Lucy met Butch’s eyes, and they both held their breath for her father’s expected burst of anger.

“Hent! She’s crazy! In all my years here, I’ve never seen a report like this.”

Lucy couldn’t have agreed more. “You’re right, Dad. But there’s not much we can do but comply. She has the power to shut the doors when she comes back.”

Her dad’s brows drew together. “She has to be the one to come back?”

For the first time she noticed how her father was aging. He looked . . . well . . . older and almost fragile. The wrinkles around his eyes and the downward slope of his shoulders didn’t sit well with her. He was still a large, robust man, but she could see how the daily stress of running the restaurant was taking its toll.

She also sympathized with her father’s dread regarding the new health inspector. Lucy hoped she wasn’t there when Heather came back. Something about Heather Banks . . . and something about this place . . . made Lucy act irrationally.

She’d always prided herself on her control. She’d never lost her temper in her legal practice no matter how difficult a client or adversary.

She glanced at her watch. Twenty minutes. Heather had been in the restaurant for only twenty minutes, and Lucy felt as overheated as a radiator about to explode. Was she becoming hotheaded after just two days back? What would happen after a week? A month? Was anger management in her future?

Tina Kashian’s Award-Winning Hummus Recipe

This is my own secret recipe and I make it weekly at home for the kids and the husband. It can be served as a dip with wedges of pita bread or vegetables, and goes well with broiled or grilled meat. It can also be used as a healthy alternative to mayonnaise on sandwiches.
1 can (15 ounces) chick peas
3½ teaspoons tahini (sesame seed puree)
3 cloves minced garlic (1½ teaspoons)
1 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons lemon juice
Drain can of chick peas and reserve ¼ cup fluid. Mix tahini thoroughly before using to incorporate oil that separates during storage. Using a food processor or blender, combine and blend all ingredients until smooth. If hummus is too thick, add a few tablespoons of reserved fluid from chick peas and blend again. Pour into serving platter. Enjoy!

Welcome
to Dead Oaks.

The
New Home of Fear!

Something
strange is happening in the sleepy, little, town of Dead Oaks, N.C.
Tales of disappearances, strange deaths, murder, and mayhem have been
passed down through the town’s history and are now used as scary
tales to keep local children behind locked doors at night. Still, it
all continues. Whatever sinister force that has its claws into Dead
Oaks is still there, and it wants nothing more than to claim the town
as its own.

Six
Years Ago

Hikers,
campers, and even locals had been disappearing around Dead Oaks Lake.
Some claimed the ghost of a local man who went missing years before
was the reason. During a neighborly camping get together, Tiffany
Sellers vanished in the middle of the night. Mia Evans was the only
witness. What she saw that night sent her family far from Dead Oaks
in hopes of escaping the evil surrounding the town.

Present
Day

Mia,
and her twin sister Tia have come back to their family’s cabin by
the lake. Their hopes? To finally put the past behind them and
reconnect with old friends for a Halloween bash to remember. As an
unexpected snow storm strands the twins and their friends, they find
themselves fighting to survive not only the storm but whatever is
haunting the lake. Soon they realize, in Dead Oaks, sometimes the
past should just stay buried.

The Storm and the Sea by January George

Blurb:

After an impulsive decision lands her in hot water, Adrianne Broussard is desperate to get to the far
reaches of the Louisiana Bayou to make things right. But a tropical storm is barreling up the Gulf and
she can’t find anyone willing to take her.

When Ronan Doyle’s fishing boat is locked up by a shady dock owner, he’ll do just about anything to
get it back, even take a mysterious blond out in the middle of a storm.
But when they’re left stranded in the unforgiving swamp, and their secrets start to unravel, will they find
the strength to trust each other, even if it puts them on opposite sides of the law?

EXCERPT:

He jumped the cabin steps in one leap, wrenching open the door. “We’re taking on water. Life jacket
on, now!” Ronan pulled on his own, not waiting to see if she followed directions.

“What was that?” Adrianne cried, her knuckles white on the steering wheel.

Ronan shook his head, snapping the clasps before he turned to her. He shot a look over his shoulder.
The smaller craft struggled in the waves, closing the distance. His fingers moved deftly down the black
plastic clips, snapping them across her chest. “We hit something. We’re going down. I don’t know how
deep it is, but we can’t stay here.” He scanned their surroundings. They were about thirty yards from
land.

Adrianne clung to the backpack like it was a buoy. Tears glistened in her eyes. “Ok.”

Ronan framed her face with his hands. “I need you to do exactly as I say, ok?”

She nodded. She still wouldn’t let go of that damn backpack.

He pulled her behind him. The boat listed, the horrible sound of torn metal groaned below them. “We’re
going to jump. Swim for the shore with everything you got.”

“I—I can’t,” she stammered.

Ronan glanced over his shoulder. The boat was close, its lone occupant fighting against the wind.
Once they were in the water, the carcass of the Fiona would block them, but not for long. He smiled
sheepishly at Adrianne. “Sorry about this.”

She looked up sharply. “What?”

He picked her up and unceremoniously tossed her overboard.

Accidental Tryst by Natasha Boyd blitz

Accidental Tryst
Natasha Boyd
Publication date: March 6th 2018
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Romance

A new standalone seriously (steamy) romantic comedy! Meet Trystan Montgomery. Suit monkey, commitment-phobic serial dater. No more than three dates, unless he hasn’t … you know.

Emmy:

What a disaster! I only just made my flight to New York to help my uncle, and the phone I’m holding is not mine! It seems to belong to some commitment-phobic serial dater who’s never made it past four dates (according to the constant notifications he’s getting from his fake dating profile…) And worse? I have a sinking feeling it’s that hot suit-monkey with the arctic grey eyes I just had a run-in with at the airport. Somehow I have to persuade him not to get a new phone until I get back. My whole life is on that phone. It’s only a few days. Surely we can handle it.

Trystan :

This is a joke, right? My life could not get more f*cked up. I’m in the middle of selling my company and on my way to a funeral and that hot mess hippie-chick stole my freaking phone. I’m not sure how she convinced me not to immediately walk into a smart phone store and get a new one, but now she’s going to have to play stand in and distract me while I deal with my long-avoided and estranged family. I don’t have my dating apps after all, and frankly she’s pretty funny. And sexy. And why can’t I stop texting her? And now we’re talking. And … look, I’ll admit that I usually run for the hills the morning after, but the morning after phone sex? That’s not really real, right?

Goodreads / Amazon / iBooks / Kobo

EXCERPT:

Emmy: I hate my boss.

Suit Monkey: What happened?

Emmy: Pitch was cancelled. He knew that but still made me call in. I’m feeling … stabby.

Suit Monkey: Stabby?

Emmy: Murderous!

Suit Monkey: So you texted ME? Great.

Emmy: Sorry.

I found myself grinning.

Suit Monkey: No it’s fine really. It’s nice to know I spring to mind when you’re stirred to great heights of passion. Was just hoping they’d be less murderous and more amorous.

Emmy: In the middle of the day?

Suit Monkey: A noon delight? Why not?

I gasped dramatically in the empty break room and typed double exclamation points of shock and hit send.

Suit Monkey: I’m kidding. Kind of. Not really. But I bet you’re smiling now. Or at least rolling your eyes.

Emmy: I am

Trystan: I’m in a car with my uncle and my cousin going to visit some of the properties I now own. But if I weren’t …

Emmy: Stop.

Suit Monkey: Okay.

Emmy: Is this what we are now?

Suit Monkey: What?

Emmy: Phone sex buddies.

Suit Monkey: Do we have to label it?

Emmy: You can’t even commit to phone sex? You’re worse off than I thought.

The History of Hilary Hambrushina by Marnie Lamb

The History of Hilary Hambrushina
Marnie Lamb
Publication date: May 31st 2017
Genres: Contemporary, Young Adult
Hilary has one goal for her first year in junior high: to become popular. But her plans are turned upside down when her best friend leaves for the summer and a quirky girl named Kallie moves in next door. Kallie paints constellations on her ceiling, sleeps in a hammock, and enacts fantastical plays in front of cute boys on the beach. Yet despite Kallie’s lack of interest in being -cool, – Hilary and Kallie find themselves becoming friends. That summer friendship, however, is put to the test when school begins, reigniting Hilary’s obsession with climbing the social ladder. As Hilary discovers the dark side to popularity, she must decide who she wants to be before she loses everything.
EXCERPT:
I put on a sweatband and sneakers and brought down a water bottle. My plan was to pedal non-stop for an hour. I figured I could do it, since I was used to riding my own bike, and how different could this bike be? I should lose at least one pound that way, I told myself. So if I use the bike every day, in fifteen days I’ll have lost the weight I want to lose.
I stepped over boxes and piles of books to reach the bike, which sat in a dark corner. This corner had a musty smell, like an old church that hadn’t been dusted since Queen Victoria was my age. A fake raccoon-fur hat someone had given my dad as a joke hung on the wall nearby.
The bike seat was too high for me, but I couldn’t move it because it was screwed in place. Gripping the handlebars for support, I tried to heave my leg over the seat several times without success. I was becoming angry and sweaty, so I started breathing deeply, like I was having a baby, to calm myself down. “Hoo hoo hoo.”
“Hilary!” shouted my mom. “Why are you making monkey noises?”
I froze. I knew that if I said, “It’s nothing,” she’d come down, and I didn’t want her to think I needed help getting on a stationary bicycle. So I called, “I’m just playing a game.”
I managed to lift myself on to the bike. I had to stretch to reach the pedals, but I finally did and started pumping. It was O.K. at first, but soon, my muscles felt like some psycho was using them as rubber bands. And some people actually do this for fun! What’s wrong with them, I thought. I reached for the water bottle and tried to squirt some water in my mouth. Nothing but air came out. I’d forgotten to fill the bottle! I threw it away and continued to pump furiously. Objects on the wall began rattling, and I was making so many strange noises my mother must have thought a whole pack of monkeys was performing a conga line in the basement. I began to have visions of monkeys in spangly pink bikinis

kicking up their heels (did monkeys have heels, I wondered) on stage at the Princess of Wales Theatre.
Suddenly my sweatband fell over my eyes. I didn’t stop to fix it, though. You’re going to pump for the full hour, not for fifty-nine minutes, I ordered myself. Instead, I tried nodding vigorously to get the sweatband to fall under my chin. It fell over my nose and I couldn’t breathe. Then something dark and furry leapt on my head, covering my eyes and tickling my face like a bunch of feathers. I screamed, batting at the thing with one hand and pumping frantically, as if I could escape that way. I soon realized it was only my dad’s hat, but I still couldn’t get it off. Finally I stumbled off the bike and yanked the hat’s tail away from my eyes.
I had no energy left to remove the hat, so I left it on and trudged upstairs. I passed my mom, who took one look at me and started to snicker. Ignoring her, I went into the kitchen to check the clock. I’d been on the bike five minutes.
So that was the end of my experiment with exercising.

Reclaim by Marley Valentine

Title: Reclaim
Series: A Redemption Novel
Author: Marley Valentine
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 29, 2018
Cover Artist: PopKitty Design

Unlike most eighteen year olds, I had the weight of the world on my young shoulders. Desperate to do right by my family, my questionable choices led me to the pits of hell.

Steel bars, three meals a day and no contact with the outside world; regret consumed my every thought. Desperate to pay my penance, forgiveness and a happily ever after wasn’t the plan.

But there she was.

Warm, passionate and unexpected, Emerson Lane was the light at the end of the tunnel. She was all a man like me could want and everything I didn’t deserve.

Redemption wasn’t something I thought I would ever find. Until she found me.

Prologue

The metal rubs roughly against my skin, cutting deep into my wrists, as forceful hands press into the middle of my back, urging me forward.
My feet shuffle around the splattered blood decorating the tiled floor, and my eyes wander over the mess I’m leaving behind.

What have I done?

Stepping outside, I’m welcomed by the flashing strobed of red and blue lights, and the prying eyes of everyone I’ve ever known.

Staring. Questioning. Judging.

I keep my head down, willing myself to wake up from this horrible nightmare. Praying that my irresponsible choices didn’t just take away my whole family. With each step I take the sound of gunshots bouncing off the walls echoes through my mind. Mixed with the memory of Sasha’s blood curdling screams, and I know I’m destined to be haunted by this moment forever.

“Ma’am you’re going to have to move out of the way.” The officer’s stern voice has me looking up. I wondered if I would see her before they took me away. She stands before me, leaning on the police car. Her tears are uncontrollable, and her shoulders shake in grief. If a broken heart had a face, hers would be it.

I step closer, and let all the regret, the confusion and the ultimate betrayal linger between us.
“I’m so sorry.” I say, my voice hoarse and broken.

The second the words leave my mouth, her body stiffens. I know their inadequate. She straightens her back, and wipes her face; ridding herself of her vulnerability.

“Sorry?” She spits out in a question. “I hope you fucking burn in hell.”

My head hangs in defeat, knowing those gates are open wide and ready to welcome me.

I feel his disappointment before I see him. “Sasha, the ambulance is making its way to the hospital. Dakota needs you.” My brother Hendrix stares at me like he’s noticing me for the first time. Wondering what he missed, and how we got here. Shaking his head he leaves me behind, and follows his future.

“Drix,” I call out. His shoulders rise and fall at the sound of my voice. “I know how important she is to you. Take care of them for me, you’ll do a better job than I ever could.”

My request scratches the surface of our unspoken thoughts. Guilt swims in my veins and regret cinches my heart. There isn’t a life around me I haven’t touched and stained, and the pain etched on all their faces is tangible proof.
This is the only thing I’ll be remembered for.
