Art of Survival Part 1 by Monique Orgeron

Title: Art of Survival: Part 1
Series: A Stern Family Saga
Author: Monique Orgeron
Genre: Contemporary Romance Suspense
Release Date: August 23, 2018
Cover Design: Serendipity Formats

You think you know me? You think you know the things I have been through?

My life, like I said before, has been written through my sons’ lives.

But not all.

Once, there was a girl, who was left alone in this world to fight and defend herself.

She did exactly that and became,

Catherine Stern.

Becoming someone, I wasn’t, was not easy.

It came with strings that strangled every part of my old self out.

The girl I once was would have to be destroyed and replaced with a woman who would rule.

A woman who was a fighter and a survivor.

The problem is, I’m not sure I have what it takes to fight anymore battles and endure what is coming.

Memories come flooding back like tidal waves hitting the shore. No, not the shore. The damn rock walls, bashing against them with so much anger. All the anger I thought I buried deep inside of me is rushing out. Sitting up in my bed, I let my head fall back against the headboard, my eyes shut tight, trying to control the anger. Anger which is truly nothing more than fear. Seems that fear has always been my driving force. Fear I would finally be destroyed, that everything in my life would untwine like a badly tied knot.

On a deep sigh my eyes open staring at the blank ceiling, at nothing. Then I notice a tiny crack and I can’t help but let out a chuckle. In all my years, nothing has ever come closer to representing the fear I’ve been carrying more than that tiny crack in the ceiling. One hairline fracture in my armor could grow until everything comes crumbling down on top of me. I guess it’s finally time for the truth to come out and let the chips fall where they may.

As I glance around my bedroom, seeing all my beautiful surroundings, it’s a far cry more than I ever hoped for or deserved but I earned it, all of it. My eyes land upon the table by my windows. Lying on top are pictures of my children not only my boys but their wives and my three grandchildren. They are my life, always have been. They were my saving grace more than they will ever comprehend. If they only knew that they are the true reason for my survival.

Feeling extra emotional, I reach into my nightstand and pull out my journal. My hands gently rub the leather-bound book, thinking of the first day I started writing in it. It was almost six years ago, after I found out about my diagnoses, right before I heard from Laura and found Fallon. Up until then, I was an internal wreck, going through the motions. Then that one phone call from Laura gave me the thing I needed the most. From the minute I laid eyes on Fallon, I knew what had to be done. From then on, I had a purpose. One that would help me to prepare and take my mind off my doom. Beginning on that day, the journal became a way for me to tell my story while I prepared my sons for a life without me.

Grabbing the pen attached to the book, I open it and with a heavy heart, I write my latest entry.

Today is the day that I have feared would come. It’s not the end, but I never feared the end. In some ways, I look forward to it, to the rest. No, today is the day that I prayed would never come, the day they will all fight me.

What makes me livid is that in a matter of minutes, everything was exposed. It wasn’t by choice, or by my admittance but the second I saw that medical file in Theo’s hands, I knew all my plans were for nothing.

Even this journal could be misunderstood. They could take the pages I filled for nothing more than excuses instead of the true reasons behind my decisions.

I wanted to leave my boys something I never gave them. I wanted to give them, me. All of me. The true me, not the facade. I shielded them from her their whole lives, but they deserve to know their mother for who she really was and why she did some of the things she did.

Every decision made and every day I survived was for you, my sons.

Catherine Stern

Written by Monique Orgeron’s eldest, most beautiful, and intelligent daughter. (My sister is going to hate this part.)

My mom happens to be the most caring, loving, and stubborn person I know, well anyone knows. She gives 100% percent of herself to everyone and has given up so much of herself for my sister and I. For twenty-one years she has poured her heart and soul into making sure we know that we are loved and that we can do anything we put our minds too, but it was about time she figured that out about herself.

Up until this year I hadn’t seen my mom do anything for only her, but this book has allowed her to travel the world through the pages of a book, make new friends, and feel the joy of doing something exciting.

There is a new light behind her eyes and it is just making me feel more joy than she can ever imagine. While she might be annoying most of the time, I am so thrilled that she is finally allowing herself to grow as a person and not spend all of her energy on her family.

It has been a long journey of self-discovery for my mom; she has gone from domestic supermom to domestic goddess throughout the process of writing.

We are so very excited and proud of you! I love you as big as the world.

What is the price one must pay to protect one's honor? Or that of another? It has been two years since the duel that changed Julian, Lord Trevelin's life. He is now happily betrothed to Miss Jane Leavitt, a wealthy debutante. Her influence has helped to restore his reputation among Society. Her father, however, has not allowed the connection to be made public. He disapproves of Trev's penchant for looking into unsavory matters such as pinched diamond necklaces and dead downstairs maids. He will allow the couple to set a date for their wedding when he is satisfied that Trev will look after his own reputation with the same care as does Jane.

Meanwhile, Trev is taken with the rumors about Miss Hannah Andersen, a young lady newly arrived in London for the season. Her military father was said to have put a period to his existence in order to escape the consequences of fleeing a battle with his wife and child. She, however, insists his death was an accident. Trev can't resist attempting to set the man's reputation to rights. He is assisted by his ethereal friend, Willy, and the boot boy-cum-valet, Jack. When several more "accidents" occur, Trev's list of murder suspects grows. And then his cousin Evelyn threatens him with ruin if he does not release Jane to his clutches--only, this time, it will be her honor that shall be irrevocably tarnished.

The Scandal in Honor is book two in The Lord Trevelin Mysteries. Be sure to also read the first book in this captivating Regency-era mystery series about one man's journey to redemption, told through the eyes of the one whose absolution he longs for the most: his own.

Excerpt
There comes a time when a man must choose to do that which he should not. The memory lies like a flame about to be extinguished, flickering in the past for lack of notice. And yet, when brought to mind, it flares to life, along with the shame…and regret.

Chapter One

The air pierced my lungs like a thousand tiny icicles, but I remained rooted to the spot. Jack tugged at my sleeve, crazy with fear for me, and still I did not move. I thought perhaps I would never see Silvester House, or even England, again. I was in the power of my cousin, Evelyn Rogers-Reimann, and he was not a merciful man.

England February 1814

I strolled into the salon of Silvester House to find Mrs. Smurthwaite seated on the divan under the window, her face pink with delight. Stopping short in astonishment, I suppressed a groan. I managed my best smile, a triumph I am told. (The scar that disgraces my mouth stretches into oblivion when I am at my most affable. As I refuse to smile so giddily into the mirror, I must rely on the opinion of others.)

“Trev,” Walter Leavitt hissed as he rescued his glass from colliding into my unyielding form. “How did she get in?”

I turned to my friend; he possessed the same glorious red hair and eye for the absurd as his younger sister, Miss Jane Leavitt. That she was at long last my betrothed was one of the few satisfactions I had yet known in my then five-and-twenty years.

“I have only just learned,” I murmured for his ear alone, “how Mrs. S. has regularly availed herself of my home.” I gave him a long stare. “It’s Hatch! He allows her entrance at any hour of the day or night merely to plague me. I should not be surprised to learn he has made a present to her of the key.”

Leavitt brought his glass to his lips with a roll of his eyes. “You ought to turn him out.”

“I can hardly do so!” I said, appalled. “He has been with the family forever.”

“Well, she’s ghastly,” he said, his voice flat. He regarded her over the rim of his glass. “Jane would not like it.”

“She is aware of Mrs. S.’s eccentricities,” I said with a shrug, “and endures it with good grace.” I gave the lady under discussion a slight bow, grateful that she was hard of hearing. “Furthermore, she is not in the least ghastly.” (‘Twas a bald lie.) “She is a lonely old woman, and my nearest neighbor.”

“Shall you not join me, my lord?” she crooned from her place by the window. “It has been long since we have controversed.”

Leavitt leaned to whisper in my ear, never taking his fascinated gaze from Mrs. S. seated across the room. “I believe she meant to say ‘conversed.’”

“I am aware,” I said, a trifle shortly. No one had endured the woman’s corruption of the King’s English with more regularity than I.

“She is waiting,” Leavitt said with a nudge to my shoulder.

“Indeed! For you. She has grown as enamored of you as that corset she sports,” I murmured as I started across the room to claim my seat next to the infernal creak of it.

“If I must!” he griped, depositing his goblet on the credenza with a perilous tinkling of glass.

We sat, one to either side of her. Silently, I prayed for composure. I had no wish to dissolve into laughter at Leavitt’s antics. He was sure to make a mockery of her words behind her back.

“Now!” she said with a punishing blow to my thigh, one she doubtless meant as an amicable swat. “When are you to wed that sister of his?”

I smiled, my marriage to Jane being my favorite subject on which to ‘controverse’. “It shall be a summer wedding. June, I believe, if Jane has her way. She is determined to carry roses for the ceremony.” In truth, she much preferred lilies. I dissembled so as to mask the fact that my future father-in-law refused to allow us to set a date. It had taken a year for him to consent to our betrothal, and another for it to be made public. I, however, remained unconcerned. An older man with an enormous belly, I knew I need merely out-live him, if necessary.

“June? Haven’t you waited long enough for connubile bliss? You have been betrothed for nigh on a year!”

“True,” I said, “but Miss Leavitt is adamant as to the flowers, and one must wait on such things.”

“Which reminds me,” Mrs. Smurthwaite said, turning her gaze upon Walter. “You ought to be on the hunt for a wife, as well. That Miss Hannah Andersen would do nicely, I should think.”

“Miss Andersen?” Walter said, with an inadequately concealed shudder. “I daresay m’father would have much to say on that score.”

“Why? Whatever could be abjectionable in her?” Mrs. Smurthwaite asked with a lofty air.

I met Walter’s sardonic gaze over the top of her head. “For one,” he said as he thrust out his hand and unfurled a finger, “she’s a pauper. Second, she’s not had a proper coming-out, and third, it is said that her father made away with himself. I should think that more than enough concerns to render her very objectionable,” he added with a waft of his hand.

“I fear it is not equitable to judge those we do not know,” I admonished lightly. Privately, I also found Miss Andersen quite beyond the pale. I stroked the corner of my mouth where dwelt the scar that had nearly undone my life, and felt myself a hypocrite. I had reasons, however; if my future brother-in-law were to attach himself to one such as Miss Andersen, all that had passed to restore my reputation could be lost.

I thought, then, of Jane; how I had nearly been denied her hand due to the whispers as to the origin of my injury. I concealed a shudder of my own as I recalled that I had once contemplated putting a period to my existence. And then I reminded myself that Miss Andersen’s father was only said to have killed himself. The actual truth of the matter was unknown.

Natrogix Biotin 10000mcg for Hair Growth for Men and Women - 120 Biotin Softgels

My hair has pretty much stopped growing in length and breaks easily, and my nails break easily, My skin is kind of dry, so I decided to give Biotin a try. There are 120 softgel easy to swallow capsules in this bottle. The bottle is huge but the pills take up less then a quarter of the bottle. I'm not really sure what is up with that but as for the pills. They are easy to swallow. There is no taste to them or after taste to them. They are on the small side, which is fine with me. I have had no adverse reactions to these pills, no stomach problems or headaches or anything like that. I have not been taking these long enough to say Yes they definitely work.

Biotin is most used for healthy and strong hair, skin and nails. It is supports a healthy nervous system. It is also essential for the intermediate metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.It is part of the B vitamin family.

I have used other supplements from Natrogix and have had great experiences. It does take a period of time to notice differences, so do not think after 1 pill or even 1 week you will see stark differences. Dosage is 1 pill a day.

Lasten Dual Tip Brush Pens Art Markers with Flexible Brush Tip (24 Cols/12 Pcs)

I love these dual tipped pens. There are 24 colors and only have to keep track of 12 pens. The colors are very bright and vibrant. They come in a recloseable plastic container to keep them all together. These are brush ti pens and the tips are flexible. The tips are 1 to 4mm. These pens have Water-based Ink they are also Odorless and acid-free.

I really love that they are dual tipped with a corresponding color on both ends. Meaning they have a darker color at one end a lighter color at the other end. The yellow one for instance is bright yellow at one end and a pastel or light yellow at the other. The black is grey at the other end.

They did not bleed through copy paper. You could see a darker impression through copy paper but the ink did not bleed all the way through. On thicket paper I could not see the ink impression at all.

These pens are great for kids adult, planner , coloring books, drawings, doodle, manga comic art, journal lines, note sketch book, bible notes, calendar, crafting and DYI projects at home or school. Pretty much anything you would want to add a bit of color to.

The pen caps have a safety feature of a small air hole in the cap in case a child would get them in their mouth. The hole prevents helps choking and allows air through if they were to be swallowed.

The Ultimate Bachelorette Party Decorations Set

I have not 1 but 2 daughters getting married soon. So I have been a busy mommy looking for items for before, during and after the wedding. Finding this set for the Bridal Shower I thought was going to be and actually it was. I was looking for a set that included pretty much everything I needed for decorating. This set comes with a very nice Veil, Bride Sash, temp tattoos, mylar balloon, regular balloons, party games, banner, and lots of photo booth props. So far this is was most complete set I have run across for the Bridal Shower.  This set will come in real handy.

The veil is actually nice enough to wear for the wedding itself. It has a ribbon around the edge and a plastic hair comb to hold it on the head.  The sash is wide and says Bride to be on it. It is white with gold lettering. The Mylar Balloon is a giant engagement ring around 3 feet tall. Where I live I can take it to most places that have balloons and get it filled for less then $1.00. There are 6 latex balloons, a couple are even filled with confetti. The large Mr and Mrs banner is card stock on a cold string, the lettering and rings at both ends are done in gold glitter. There are 20 photo booth props that say all kinds of things are are lips, mustaches, champagne glasses, and more. There are 2 sheets of games. And last but not least 1 temporary tattoos that are done in gold glitter and say Bride Tribe.

This is a great set whether you are staying in for the party or touring the town with your Bridal Party and friends.
