In Search of Pride Excerpt

Brenn swore under his breath. Everything had been as it should on his travels home after he’d left the Clyss. No attacks, everything normal. Why the sudden interest in their realm? The Toubosians had sent several ships, but only one craft had attacked the village and abducted all the occupants? During his travels, he’d heard nothing, no rumors of alien attacks, of spaceship sightings. Would they really send several ships to capture the people from one village? Had the ships returned to Toubos? He doubted it. He had a feeling the ships were hiding somewhere in the far mountain range south of their village—planning another attack?
Were the Toubosians in league with Cewrick, the evil sorcerer who had placed the curse on all shifters? The sorcerer’s castle stood on the highest peak in the center of the Sucronian Mountains, a forbidden mountain range. No one dared to approach it. At the base of the mountains was the Verboten Forest. Its trees were said to have been bespelled by Cewrick and would kill anything or anyone treading the ground below. Large black dragons guarded the castle, along with urcals, giant birds with wingspans as wide as the road in his village. They, too, were black. Their beaks were a bright orange, curved and very sharp, their claws so big they could easily pick up several horses in one swoop, their talons an arm’s length long, and their eyes like glowing embers.
They had all seen the dragons and the birds as they circled above the forbidden forest. Brenn’s father, Yartah, the alpha of their pride, and some of the warriors, including Brenn, had ventured to the edge of the forest when one of their young women had suddenly gone missing. When Huf, a young warrior, rode ahead into the forest, one of the monstrous birds had plucked him and the horse from between the trees and disappeared with them.
After that tragic event, Yartah had doubly enforced the rules. No one was allowed to venture near the forest. Brenn didn’t think after what had happened that anyone would even dare, but one never knew what young people would do. The youngsters thought themselves invincible. The only thing that seemed to scare them was the curse—if they shifted, which usually surfaced during puberty, they could remain a lion forever and lose all humanity.
He turned his attention back to Ivran. His friend was distraught, barely holding onto his human form, his lion fighting to burst free.

The
Dragon's Lion
Crimson
Realm Chronicles Book 2

The
rescue of Brenn’s pride sets off an angry tirade from Cewrick that
results in curses that almost cripple the Crimson Realm and all of
Ierilia.

With
the help of Ciara, Brenn leads his crew through the bowels of the
planet and the forbidden forest to unlock the secret of defeating
Cewrick. But will his defeat end the reign of terror on their world?

Sword
of Betrayal
Crimson
Realm Chronicles Book 3

When
Erica is granted a commission in the king’s army and gifted a
magical sword for her bravery, she begins to look forward to a future
for both herself and her crew. But not everyone is happy with their
circumstances.

Erica
joins Brenn’s team in the fight to save his planet from the angry
god, Zohmes, and she finds herself charmed by more than just the
planet. The sexy lion shifter, Laro, claims she is his lifemate,
setting her passions ablaze. Stung by the sharp tongues and
dissension of some of her crew, Erica pushes him away to focus on the
lives of her crew members.

Can
Erica accept a future with Laro, or will she let hate and betrayal
decide her fate?

Sword
of Judgement
Crimson
Realm Chronicles Book 4

Betrayed
by several members of her crew, Erica now finds herself in a race to
beat the clock. A rare poison injected into the king’s blood from
the blade of her sword, threatens his life.

Erica
joins her lifemate, Laro, and the rest of the team, on a mission rife
with danger to search for the antidote to save the king. With an
angry god bent on destroying the royal line by any means possible,
the team doesn’t know who to trust or what Zohmes will do
next.

Erica find a way to prove the innocence of her crewmembers before the
blade of judgement falls?

ISBN: 9781488024368
ASIN: B07B519L19

Number of pages: 315
Word Count: 143,970

Book Description:

Meet the Beteferoce brothers: five dragon shifters, each with a strong elemental power. And each with a fierce desire to find his soul mate…

He said he was flying on a silver dragon. He called me “Markus-meine.” Who would know all that? Who? And how?

SWAT cop and dragon shifter Mark Beteferoce had—and lost—a soul mate. He’s finally at the point where he can get through the days without thinking about what used to be…until he tastes Quincy O’Brien’s doughnuts and takes him home to play.

Quincy O’Brien is a gifted baker, but at night he dreams of soaring through the sky on dragonback and being topped by the perfect Dom. Mark satisfies the kinky urges Quincy has only explored in his subconscious, pushing his limits and caring for him afterward.

From the start, their connection was more than sexual. It’s known; it’s familiar somehow. And it’s slowly driving Mark insane. What shouldn’t be possible most certainly is, and the bond between himself and Quincy runs deeper than either of them could ever have realized.

Excerpt:

“We’re ready. Go
ahead and open for the day.” Quincy slid the last tray of doughnuts into the
case as his sister headed for the door, the smell of sugar thick on the air.
The Aerie Bakery
had been in business for four gen¬erations and it felt good every morning,
seeing the little line of people waiting for breakfast and coffee. Quincy felt
that this was what he’d been born to do. Kneading dough and feeding people came
as naturally as breath¬ing.
“Opening now,”
Barb warned him so he was braced for the first flood of customers. There was a line
today, as there was most mornings. The next hour was busy. Many of the
customers were regulars he and Barb knew well enough to ask about the latest
regarding work or family and friends. Maybe the chatter slowed the line down,
but only marginally and they more than made up for it with repeat customers who
really felt like they were valued, which they were. After the first hour, he
and Barb got a wee bit of a break, enough time for them to take a breather and
bring out the second round of trays.
“I think we’ll
be sold out by eleven, Quince.”
He nodded to
Barb. “I think you’re right.” That worked for him. He’d been working since
three a.m. to get things ready for the morning rush.
A couple of cops
came in, SWAT by the looks of their uniforms. One of them, Tom, was a regular
who came in for two dozen doughnuts almost every day. Not to be stereotyping or
anything, but the Halifax cops did love his doughnuts.
“I tell you,
Mark, you need to get laid,” Tom said, making his friend roll his eyes.
“That’s your
answer to everything.” Mark was huge: big, broad shoulders and a deep voice
that Quincy swore he felt in his belly.
Yummy.
There was no way
this guy had a problem getting laid.
He gave them a
smile. “It’s not a bad answer. Hey, Tom.”
“Hey, Quincy.
It’s not a bad answer at all. It’s a great answer.” Tom chuckled and turned to
his friend. “Mark, this is Quincy—the baker of the most amazing dough¬nuts in
town. Quincy, this is Mark, he’s on the team.”
Mark nodded to
him. “Good to meet you. We do re¬ally like your doughnuts. They don’t last long
when¬ever Tom brings them in.” Eyes the color of a stormy sky took him in.
“I love to hear
that. You want two dozen assorted?”
“We do. And I’d
like a half dozen of the square ones with raisins in a separate box, please.”
Tom smirked.
“Mark’s addicted.”
“I am not. I
just know what I like.” Mark was look¬ing right at Quincy as he said it.
“That’s a great
quality in a man.”

About the Author:

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours between dropping the f-bomb and persuing the kama sutra by channeling the long lost spirit of John Wayne and singing along with the soundtrack to "Chicago."

A long-time writer of complicated haiku, currently Sean is attempting to learn the advanced arts of plate spinning and soap carving sex toys.

Barring any of that? He'll stick with writing his stories, thanks, and rubbing pretty bodies together to see if they spark.

As the war between the Fates and the resistance rages on, Colin Murphy—bastard son of Hades—finds himself caught between his loyalty to Eros and a past that threatens to destroy him.
Pursued by Persephone’s bounty hunters, and with a pissed-off daemon to contend with, there is one thing that Murphy knows for sure – Hailey, the human he now shares his mind and body with, is innocent in all of it. She is a firefly flickering in the darkness of his black existence, and he will do anything and everything to protect her.
Hailey was groomed to be a socialite, with her entire future mapped out for her. Nothing could have prepared her for the abrupt ending to that life—or the impact of living in such close, intimate confines with a forsaken son of Hell. He’s powerful, he’s dangerous…and he’s her only hope of escaping the dark forces that pursue her.
Boundaries will be tested, loyalties questioned, and hearts pushed to the limits in this action-packed paranormal romance that continues the epic Blood of the Custodians saga by Sharonlee Holder.
This steamy, fast-paced paranormal romance series by Sharonlee Holder is perfect for fans of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward and Sacrificed to the Dragon by Jessie Donovan.
EXCERPT:
Murphy didn’t bother with the door. He came straight through the hearth, travelling through the fiery elements of his heritage. Mayhem was close. Writhing beneath the surface, tearing at the restraints, howling to be set free.
Clamping down on his base self, he swept the small front room of his mind, a red haze gathered behind his eyes and found …
You’re making a mess,” said the toffee-eyed temptress with hands on her curvy hips and chin jutted at the coals littering the stone flooring.
Murphy glanced down and began to toe aside embers. Wait a fecking minute! This was his house–so to speak.
Growling, he took a step forward. “Where is she?
Hailey–goddamn her–stood her ground, threw her shoulders back, maximising the swell of luscious breasts, and arched a slender eyebrow. “I’m not sure how things work where you come from, but where I come from, you catch more bees with honey,” she stated with all the hauteur of a tiny hive queen.
No. Not gonna happen. She’d tricked him once, and that was shame on her. He wasn’t about to give her another opportunity to force the fool’s hat onto his head. For all he knew, she was working with Valazhor. Come to think of it …
What did she offer you?” he asked.
Candy apple lips parted then snapped shut again, a believable impression of affront arranged across her features. “Excuse me?
She wanted to play it the hard way, did she?
Dainty hands dropped from her hips and tucked into the crooks of her arms when she crossed them under her breasts. Carnal desire hijacked the moment and served up a confused reminder of plush curves undulating against him, open-mouthed kisses along his neck…
You heard me,” he growled, cursing the throaty throb in his voice. “What was to be your reward for distracting me so that the Medusan hybrid could get close enough to deliver Persephone’s message?
Anger ignited in her eyes, flaming cognac over toffee, the scent of burnt caramel licking the air. “I don’t appreciate what you’re implying.”
Anger he could do. Anger was safer. Way safer than the alternative.
Closing the gap, Murphy crowded in, using his size to dominate. Again, she refused to back down and craned her head all the way back, daggers in her eyes. Dynamite, as the saying goes, comes in small packages. The masochist in him toyed with the ignition switch.
Lowering his head, he said in her ear, “I’m only going to ask one more time so think carefully before you answer.” This close, her scent was richer, more exotic. Harder to ignore. “What was the deal Valazhor made with you?
She didn’t move, though her breathing became shallower. “Or what?” Hailey murmured. “You’ll lock me in my room?” She turned her head toward him, her lips millimetres from his, candy scent invading his nostrils.
His mouth watered, and the base of his spine knotted with need. It took greater effort than he wanted to admit to make his brainbox line up the threat he had ready. “Or, I’ll save myself a whole lot of fecking trouble and give you to Persephone myself.
Thick black lashes, swept upward, revealed the brandy fire in her eyes. Her aura in life had read as human. Nothing about her had suggested hybrid, much less witch. Even the background check Ross had him run before allowing her to visit the penthouse revealed little more than a classic case of daddy’s pampered princess. And yet, her eyes burned with a soul fire that intrigued and disturbed him, agitating something deep inside of him.
What are you waiting for?” she challenged in a whisper. “Do it. Hand me over.
Caught in the blaze of her eyes, everything else ceased to exist. In the lull, that thing she had disturbed, rose up. Intensely territorial, fiercely possessive, spiked with a craving so intense… he acted before thought could catch deed.

Excerpt 2:

I blinked at him. “You realise you sound
like that puppet thing off those films…what are they called again?”
    “Saw?”
“Yeah, that’s the one. You planning on
killing me?”
“Only with orgasms, sweetheart,” Parker winked.
    Urgh.
Why did I fall for it? “What game?”
    “A word game.”
I sighed and drank the rest of my wine.
“That tells me nothing. What game?”
The DVD started. Men were singing as they
hammered at ice. I laughed so hard I had to hold my stomach. What the hell?
“Are we watching Frozen?”
“Yes,” he said, straight faced and very
serious as he sipped his own drink.
I wiped away a tear. I’d seen the half
smile on his lips.  “How many times have
you played this game to this?”
“Often. I find it’s a good way to get
drunk.”
     “I
can’t get drunk,” I squeaked.
Or any more than I already was…
I shouldn’t drink around him. It was
dangerous. I had no control and I wanted him more when alcohol flowed through
me. I wanted to throw my rules out of the window, alcohol made me feel
carefree, it made me embrace danger.
“That’s part of the game,” he chuckled.
    Oh shit. “I don’t-”
He cut me off, because he probably knew
that I was going to do everything I could to get out of it. “Rule time. Do you
want to begin at beginner level or advanced level?”
“You’ve actually created levels for this?”
I was already in too deep to back out…and I was kind of interested.
“We men take drinking games very
seriously.”
I shook my head whilst my teeth nipped at
my bottom lip. His thumb grazed against it. Those eyes of his stared right into
me.
    Sweet fuck.
“Let’s start at the beginner level,” he
answered for me, and let his thumb drop from my lip.
    I’d wanted the kiss.
    I
also knew that he was challenging me. “Why?”
He shrugged. “You’ve already had quite a
bit to drink so...”
    Dick.
    Like I couldn’t handle my drink...okay, I
couldn’t, but still, he didn’t dictate what I could do or how much I could
take.
    Which wasn’t much
more if I was being honest.
    “Give me the advanced level.”
    “Fine,” he chuckled. “Don’t say I didn’t
warn you.”
I scowled and glared at my empty glass,
like it was the one to get me into this mess. Well, it would get me into a
mess, but probably a different kind. Why couldn’t I say no? What was wrong with
me?
“So, rules, any mention of the word snowman
or Olaf’s name and you drink.”
    I nodded.
“No sips. It has to be a mouthful. Sips are
for losers.”
    “Fine.”
    “More
rules yet, babe. Whenever Anna says, “Wait, What?” you have to drink.”
“Does she say that a lot?”
His smile was devilish. “Whenever ‘Let it
go’ is said or sung, you drink.”
Christ. I was going to be hammered. I didn’t
know all the words to the song, but I knew that the song was called ‘Let it Go’
so that meant it would have the words in it.
“That all of it?” I prayed that was it
because I wasn’t going to be able to stand up at the end.
“Not quite. Last but not least, whenever Elsa
freezes something, you drink.”
“It’s called fucking Frozen... she freezes things all the time!”
“I know,” he laughed, “you ready?”
Damn it. My stubborn side had won out and
now I was definitely getting myself into trouble. “Yes, but I need a different
drink.” A drink that would affect me less over a longer length of time. Wine would
certainly get me pissed within minutes.

About the Author:

Keeley Holmes is the author of sexy romantic comedies and NA books. She loved writing so much that whilst her friends were off doing work experience in schools and child care placements, she was doing hers in a publishing house. That was when she wrote her first book at 15, it was set in America and it was about a murdering woman with a glass eye... Number one bestseller...

After working full time and gaining her English Literature and Language degree, she changed her mind about becoming a teacher, when would she write books if she had to mark them? Instead she wrote her second book in 2007. From that moment, she's written books as a side hobby and now she wants the world to read and love them! She's a sucker for a romance books, with a little bit (a lot!) of kink in them!

She lives in beautiful Yorkshire, when sometimes she leaves the house and appreciates that beauty, before crawling back into her cave to write.

Interview 2 with Keeley Holmes

Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?
I have no control at all LOL. I’ve just finished writing book 4 of the Serendipity Series and the book ended a completely different way to what I thought it would. Because of this, I now have to think about how I will write book 6. Yes, it affects everyone in the book series LOL. My characters seem to do whatever they want.

Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.
I write sexy, romantic comedies full of adult angst (who said being an adult was amazing?) and those perfect moments where characters get a real dose of Ha, you’re screwed, (we all have those moments) or the shoulder of one of their many friends to cry on when things get too hard.
Above all, you will always feel the love my characters have for their families and friends, and also the terrifying drop when they fall in love themselves.

Have you written any other books that are not published?
LOADS!! I’ve got writing projects all over my laptop. I go back to them when the characters speak to me 😊

Pen or type writer or computer?
Pen and paper first. I have a slight obsession with notebooks! Then I type it up. I find I work better when I write it up first by hand, plus typing it up is almost like another draft.

Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?
I want to thank those who have taken a chance on a new author, it’s not easy being the new one in the crowd. Thank you! I hope you continue to read my books and enjoy the amazing ride with me! 😊
