NCIS Special Agent Ryan Gilmour finds himself back at the New London submarine base, the result of a posting swap with a friend. He settles in to wait for a chance to lead an investigation and for a woman who can capture his fickle heart.
When a vandal carves a Morse code message onto a building on the base, Ryan crosses paths with librarian Alex Ware. Her ability to avoid answering his questions leaves Ryan convinced she is hiding something. Determined to find out what it is he seeks her out, but his persistence only leads to conflict and frustration.
As a second act of vandalism rapidly follows, and then a third, Ryan is given the lead in the investigation. The attacks become sinister, the trail of Morse code messages with each act taunting Ryan and his team, daring them to break the code before it’s too late. And at every turn is the elusive Alex Ware.
Will Ryan and his team find the key to solving the case? Will Alex let down her guard and tell Ryan her secret?
Can they uncover who is behind The Code?

Excerpt Two
Ryan walked back towards the third scene to see if Eve needed a hand before heading down to the NCIS building. From the path he took he could see the roof of the library. At least here Alex couldn’t spy on him. The thought didn’t comfort him, as though he enjoyed being front and centre of her attention despite how much her curiosity annoyed him. He walked around a corner and halted. Alex was standing on the far side of the road from the clearing, her back to him as she stared at last night’s crime scene.
Ryan’s mood switched to angry in a second. Three long strides and he was behind her. And she hadn’t noticed.
“What are you doing?”
She jumped and then spun around. “Oh, it’s you.”
Was she incapable of answering a simple question? “I asked you what you were doing!”
“Looking?”
The wide-eyed innocence didn’t fool him for a second. “What are you looking at?”
She held his gaze for a moment and then turned away. “I’m curious.”
Finally, an answer. His temper eased at her capitulation. “What are you curious about?”
“Whatever happened last night.”
Remarkable. Two answers in a row. “What happened last night?”
She turned to him again, her brown eyes wide open. “You haven’t heard?”
Surprise held him still for a second, and then he saw the twinkle in her eyes. “Enough of that. It’s time you and I had a talk.”
“About?” The twinkle had deepened.
“Cut it out, Alex,” Ryan said. “This is serious.” The twinkle died away as she held his gaze.
“Okay, but I still don’t know what you want to talk to me about.” The brown eyes widened again. “You don’t think I had something to do with it?”
“Not at the moment.” He regretted the words as soon as they were out of his mouth. Her eyes narrowed, but not before he caught the blaze of fury in their depths.
“Then if you want to talk to me you can do it in a formal interview.”
“I might just do that.”
“And what’s your reason, huh? If you want to drag me in for questioning, you’d better have good reason for it.”
“I don’t drag people anywhere for questioning, and maybe I do have a good reason.”
“Then you know where to find me,” she said.
