She enjoys working with children, and her goal, outside of teaching, is to continue writing stories that are inspiring and entertaining for her readers.

Interview with Crystal Dawn Mason

Any hobbies? or Name a quirky thing you like to do.
At random moments, I pretend to be an actress, and I act out scenes. I don’t read from a script; I make it up as I go along.
What’s the most courageous thing you’ve ever done?
What I believe makes me courageous is my tenacity and will to move forward in accomplishing my goals, despite having feelings of fear and discouragement. Also, I’m learning to not care so much about people’s opinions and focus on the things that I can control. I realize that when you are comfortable with who you are, nobody’s view of you can make you feel worthless, nor can their opinions keep you from succeeding in life. You’ll be able to shake those opinions off and soar like an eagle.
Do you ever get writer’s block? What helps you overcome it?
I don’t get writer’s block. Prior to writing my story, I brainstorm ideas. I use this technique so I’ll know the direction of my story. When you know where your story is headed, it’s easier to incorporate details.
There are many books out there about….What makes yours different?
I created a character, unlike other stories, who is a monster that people will have compassion for instead of mere hatred and disgust. I provide readers with the backstory of the antagonist. They’ll be able to see the history of abuse and understand why his has developed negative thought patterns about himself and others.
If you’re a mom writer, how do you balance your time?
I take one day at a time, making sure my son’s needs are met first. Also, I attend college, and I work another job. I write when I have the extra time. And it’s fine with me. I’m not in a rush. As long as I’m consistent with my writing, it will get finished, and readers will be able to read another one of my contributions to the world.

London,
April 1825

Lord
Jakob Radclyffe left his past behind in the Far East. Or so he thinks
until a ruthless thief surfaces in London, threatening to ruin his
daughter’s reputation. With the clock ticking, Jake needs the
scandalous Lady Olivia Montfort’s connections in the art world to
protect his daughter’s future.

Olivia,
too, has a past she’d like to escape. By purchasing her very own
Mayfair townhouse, she’ll be able to start a new life independent
from all men. There’s one problem: she needs a powerful man’s
name to do so. The Viscount St. Alban is the perfect name.

A
bargain is struck.

What
Olivia doesn’t anticipate is the temptation of the viscount. The
undeniable spark of awareness that races between them undermines her
vow to leave love behind. Soon, she has no choice but to rid her
system of Jake by surrendering to her craving for a single scorching
encounter.

But
is once enough? Sometimes once only stokes the flame of desire higher
and hotter. And sometimes once is all the heart needs to risk all and
follow a mad passion wherever it may lead.

Excerpt 2:

Am I late?” he asked in a tone that didn’t sound as concerned as his words might have suggested.
Yes,” she replied, sounding distressingly like Lucy on a petulant day.
My apologies,” he said on a shallow bow, even as his mouth, that talented, efficient mouth of his, maintained its familiar firm line.
No need for apologies, my lord. In fact, your tardiness is promising evidence that you are settling into the viscountcy quite well.” She liked the way his eyes narrowed at her stern tone, a tone she couldn’t help borrowing from Mrs. Bloomquist. “It is the first rule of the nobility. Everyone can wait.”
Then my apologies for not having made you wait longer.”
A begrudging smile found its way to her lips. “Now for the second rule of the nobility.” She allowed a beat to pass. A flash of pleasure coursed through her at the very idea that she could hold this glorious man in suspense. It wasn’t every woman who could boast that particular thrill. “Never apologize.”
He stepped forward, halving the distance between them, and took another bow. “Again, my apologies.”
His gaze pinned her in place, and, like that, the power of the moment shifted to him. Oh, how an unmanageable part of her wanted him to use it. This felt dangerously like flirting. Was she flirting?
She was. In the presence of the tease playing about his eyes and mouth, she couldn’t seem to help herself. She tried clearing her throat, hoping to clear her head in the process.
He should be more careful with that smile. It could give a woman ideas.

Sofie
spent much of her twenties raising two boys and reading every book
she could get her hands on. Once she realized that she was no longer
satisfied with simply reading the books she loved, that she must
write them, too, she decided to finish her degree and embark on a
writing career. Mr. Darling and the boys gave her their wholehearted
blessing.

When
she’s not writing heroes who make her swoon, she runs a marathon in
a different state every year, visits crumbling medieval castles
whenever she gets a chance, and enjoys a slightly codependent
relationship with her beagle, Bosco.

Excerpt:

I’m running in a dark forest.
The loamy earth feels soft under my bare feet and my breath is coming as fast pants. The trees are like lifeless sentinels all around me watching my witless terror as I race for the lights I glimpse between the trunks. ‘If I could just reach the light I would be safe,’ I thought to myself. My heart sank as I heard him behind me, chasing me. I knew that if he were to catch me I would be trapped and he might take my soul along with my blood. I put everything I could into my sprint and faster, feeling the twigs and small branches whip my bare skin, slicing deep, and feel the warmth slide down as blood wells up and drops to the thirsty earth. This eerie wood seemed to be never ending and the wind was cold, blowing into my face. My blood frozen in my veins, I would never escape him. I was almost there when I blinked and found myself transported to a crowded bar. I was sandwiched in the crush of people. The air was hot and smelled of smoke and sweat and I could barely hear myself think over the din of the people and the hard-pulsing rock song coming from the stage. My heart still raced but now I could feel it and enjoy it as the terror turned to the rush of the crowd and I joined their twisting, writhing dance, hypnotized by the beat and lost in the melody. The band would play forever and I would die here in this ecstasy, and happily.
The crowd seemed to get tighter. I was surrounded. The air was getting tighter by the second and there was an explosion, maybe a flash pot on the stage or maybe a grenade but I felt my feet leave the ground as the brightness ate away my sight. “Alex…” I heard my name being whispered into my ear in a deep voice, an unfamiliar voice. I was in the dark again but instead of the forest I was standing in a strange bedroom. I looked down at myself to see hands on my hips, smearing what looked to be blood and ink on my skin, almost glittering in the moon light. His hands were strong and covered in tattoos and I watched them carefully as the red and black sank into my skin, leaving only a black tattoo of a wolf`s paw print on my hip. The room was silent but for our breathing and I was just getting used to the silence when I heard a deep growl behind me and more importantly, felt it rumble thru his chest where it was pressed to my back.
Suddenly I was awake sitting up in my bed in my hotel suite. I was gasping for breath and covered in sweat. Today was my last day here in LA and I knew just how I wanted to spend it.

Our New World New World Order Chronicles Book 1 by Desiree King

Our
New World
New
World Order Chronicles Book 1
by
Desiree King

Genre:
Urban Fantasy

The
world has changed and humans are an endangered species.

After
centuries of war famine and plague, a new society has risen and
grown. Magical races, such as fae, vampires, magi, and weres, have
joined forces to ensure everyone’s survival by creating the highest
order council and the new world laws.

Unfortunately,
the cost of survival could be the freedom to be with someone you
love.

Sidney
is on the edge of womanhood. Soon she’ll accept her birth right as
lady of her people, the magi of San Diego.

However,
she is torn between her duty and heart.

Can
she have both or will she have to choose between her people or the
feelings she’s kept secret for years?

Excerpt:

I woke up early today because my family was coming to visit for my birthday, and I wanted to make sure the dorm was spotless before they get here. I was sixteen years old when they sent me here to finish my training, and now almost three years later, I was only four months away from this part of my education being over and starting the internship with my father, the Lord of San Diego. That was not the worst of my problems. I wish it was. In fact, the list of issues got longer every day. Soon I would have to hire someone to keep track of them all. Issue one: I was forbidden from even speaking to my best friend, Darien. I talked to him daily anyway. After all, he was my best friend and had been as long as I could remember. Issue two: I was failing economics. The teacher clearly hated me since had I corrected him on an assumption about the vampire court history⸻specist asshat. Issue three: my slob roommate. Enough said, but she was fun, so I guess everyone had to have a flaw. Issue four: My father had sent me a report about the erosion issue and a potential pandemic to review, and I hadn’t the first idea where to start on that; staying informed was stressful enough. However, the most important issue I had was the single rule that pertained to my birthright.
After the turn of the twenty-second century, humans struck a final blow of nuclear war before Mother Nature reclaimed the planet. The human race became an endangered species which caused the other hidden races, Magi⸻wizards, witches, warlocks, psychics, and gypsies⸻shapeshifters, the fae⸻elves, pixies, fairies, and merpeople⸻vampires, and demons to leave the shadows and help rebuild. Life as we knew it was forever changed.
Many believe that life is opportunistic, but in fact, it respects the balance of dark and light. In the New World organization, laws were made and enforced by a ruling family in each city. I was part of one such family; my father was Lord Henry of San Diego. These ruling families were headed by a ruling pair⸻husband and wife⸻who were expected to do their duty to the greater good of the organization. Each city’s representatives or leaders were expected to meet once a month with others in their state. Then the state reps took any issues or decisions to the highest level of our government, The First Council, a group of leaders of each court or race of the peoples of earth. All of this was simultaneously very simple and very complicated. On my family’s level, our duties included punishing law breakers, furthering our city’s industry, education, peacefulness, and environmental concerns⸻like any type of government. However, like any monarchy, we were also expected to further the family line in the proper way, according to The First Council’s whims. Each ruling pair was expected to have children to take over the city before the Lord and Lady reached the age of sixty. Everything was done by committee, including the matching of the soon-to-be rulers into arranged marriages. The rule was that each child of a ruling pair must marry by their twentieth birthday, and my deadline was coming fast. Every time I saw my father or his new family, I got grilled on the boys of my acquaintance, or they asked if I had found someone I was interested in. No “How are you?” and no “How are your studies going?” Only “Do you have a name to take before the council for approval?” I went to school with most of my options, but I was not interested. I was here to study diplomacy, but that was not all. Technology, science, battle skills, history, and warfare were all considered important skills for the elite, but many girls seemed to be under the impression that it was some antique finishing school. I, on the other hand, was more like the warriors and more aggressive races of men and women, vampires, demons, and shifters. I lived for the rush of the fight, whether it was real or for other gains.
I was turning on the vid screen in the living room when my roommate Anne burst through the door with a massive bouquet of blood-red roses and a black velvet box.
“Look what someone sent the birthday girl,” she giggled.
I knew who had sent the extravagant gift: my best friend Darien. The Vampire prince of LA, or as some know him, the black-hearted prince, son of my father’s best friend, King William, the only single ruler. William and Darien not only ruled LA, but William was a member of the First Council, as King of the Vampires. To me he was only Will, the loving, kind, fair man I grew up watching rule and be a father to my other half, Darien.
I was on my feet and took my gifts from Anne. I set the vase on the kitchen island counter and was sitting down to open the box when the doorbell rang. “Dammit.” I set the box beside the roses and moved to answer the door.
“So are they from the legendary Darien?” Anne asked, poking around looking for a card in the flowers.
“Stay out of that!” I called back and pulled the door open. Just as expected, my family was standing there, three hours early. My father and my stepmother looked normal in their warm weather clothes with my stepbrother, Dean, and a strange guy—he must be Dean’s friend—behind them. My father has gray hair, bright blue eyes, and a waistline that says he enjoys a leisurely lifestyle and works a desk job. My stepmother, Lisa, is your typical trophy wife. My mother died when I was born, as did Darien’s mother. Stranger yet, Darien and I share a birthday. My father was single a long time before the First Council proclaimed he must remarry. I was ten when Lisa and Dean moved in. Dean is the exact opposite of me. I was born to be strong, dangerous in a fight, and smart. As far as I can tell, Dean was born to be a selfish, useless lying cheat and soft. Luckily, he would never inherit my city. He was not to be trusted aside from the fact he was not of the blood. I was confused by the presence of the stranger. He was tall and thin, with wispy blond hair cut short⸻to hide that it was curly, I was sure. He was a good-looking man⸻too vanilla for my taste, but something was odd about him. Granted, I never really liked any guys, which was the burr under my parent’s saddle every time I talked to them.

But devotion to duty is no longer enough. On a whim, Nick hooks up with Aristocrat69 on crUIzer, and what started as one night of incredible sex turns into an attraction neither man can ignore. When a grisly mob murder sends Nick to the Breakforce corporation, he is shocked to discover his lover is none other than its CEO. When Simon's life is threatened, ethical lines blur as Nick does anything to keep him safe - no cost is too high for the man who has become Nick's everything.

Read an Excerpt:

Pushing himself up into the sitting position, Nick prepared to get up and go to the bathroom when Simon grabbed his arm. “Where are you going?”

Nick pulled back, shocked by the question but he answered, anyway. “I’m getting cleaned up to go.”

“No.”

No? What the hell? “You don’t want me to get cleaned? Come on man, you can’t be serious. I’ll only take a minute.” Nick’s anger rose. He hadn’t pegged Simon as an asshole but obviously, he might have been wrong.

Simon sat up and took Nick’s hands. “No, I meant I would like it if you stayed. We can have a drink, maybe order in food. Have you eaten?”

Nick couldn’t stop himself from staring at his lover for a moment, but he quickly recovered. “Sure, I’d like that.” He honestly would.

“I’ll clean up and leave a robe in the bathroom for you to use if you’d like.” Simon said before kissing Nick and walking to the bathroom naked, making Nick’s cock twitch. “Easy there, we need a breather between rounds.”

Simon came out of the bathroom wearing the same yoga pants he had on the first time they’d hooked up. The ones that highlighted that perfect ass of his. “All yours, Nick.”

“Thanks. Do you mind if I take a quick shower?” It’d give him the extra time to try to work out what the hell was going on with Simon.

“Yes, go right ahead. I’ll pour us a drink and then we can look over the room service menu.” Simon replied acting as if this was perfectly natural to him. Nick didn’t think it was.

“If that’s what you want.” Nick answered, still unsure of the situation.

Simon picked up on this and walked over to stand in front of him. “I realize I’m behaving oddly compared to last night. I’ve been thinking, and if you’re agreeable, I propose that we spend our free moments together while I’m in town. We get on well and even you must admit, we’re sexually compatible.”

Nick thought about it, he wanted to see Simon again. “How long are you expected to stay in Toronto?”

“At the moment it appears I won’t be able to conclude my business in Canada for at least a couple weeks.”

Well, no one ever accused him of being stupid. Weeks of the best sex of his life with a man he finds irresistible. Where did he sign up? Nick would likely regret this when it ended, but until then he planned to enjoy this to the fullest.

“Okay, deal. While you’re in town, we’ll see each other.”

“And no one else. If you’re with me at night, I don’t want to share you with any other men. I’ll do the same.”

Nick had never been one to date multiple men at the same time, even if this wasn’t really considered dating. But if Simon needed to hear it, Nick had no problem with that. “I agree, no other men.”

Simon flashed a smile that must have men falling to their knees all over England. “Now get showered so we can order dinner.” Nick smiled back before heading into the bathroom still shocked by the turn of events.
