The Aftermath of Drifting Away by Audrey Beaudoin

The Aftermath of Drifting Away
Fate Book 1
by Audrey Beaudoin
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

We survived the plane crash.

We survived days on a raft in the middle of the ocean. Right when all hope to get rescued crumbled, we shared a kiss that left me heartbroken―my first and last kiss.

Or so I thought. Because we didn’t die.

My plan is to never see Chris Ross again. To keep hanging out with his sister without crossing his path. Getting my life back together and working on my goals are the only things that matter. I have plans, and they don’t include love.

But then he shows up at my workplace, asking for my friendship. When I learn something that changes everything, I’m determined to stay away and not let myself fall for him.

Too bad he’s persistent. Too bad I can’t stop thinking about the damn kiss. Too bad it’s nice having him around and being his friend.

If things were to change, they could get really complicated…

The Aftermath of Drifting Away is a sweet contemporary forbidden romance. It is the first book in the Fate series that can be read as a stand-alone.

Audrey Beaudoin is a YA and NA contemporary romance author from Canada. Being a French native speaker didn’t stop her from writing her first English story in 2017. She writes sweet romance novels, sometimes with a bit of action and suspense.

Cheryl Holt Announces Her Lost Girls Trilogy

Blog Post

My books for Summer, 2020, will be my Lost Girls trilogy, coming on August 11th.

For several summers now, I’ve written linked trilogies, where there’s a storyline that connects all three books. It gives me a chance to use recurring characters and to bring the three novels to a satisfying conclusion at the end. The stories start with a prologue in Book #1 that sets up the link premise, and it resolves in the Epilogue of Book #3. It’s a fun way to give readers a long, lush story with plenty of delicious characters and plot twists and turns.

This year my trilogy link has to do with the three heroines. When they were little girls, they were traveling to Jamaica with their parents, but their ship sank in a terrible storm, and they were the only survivors. They were found on a deserted island in the Caribbean by British navy sailors and returned to England where they were separated and handed over to distant relatives. The stories start as the twentieth anniversary of the shipwreck is approaching.

The 3 novels will be released on the same day, so you can read the whole series at once without having to wait for the next installment. They’ll be available both as print books and e-books. My Lost Girls trilogy! Coming August 11, 2020!

SOMEONE TO LOVE - Book 1

CHERYL HOLT delivers the first novel in her new and exciting “Lost Girls” trilogy.

As a tiny girl, Libby Carstairs was found by navy sailors on a deserted island in the Caribbean. She was all alone and had no memory of her past or parents. Who is she?  And what happened to leave her stranded so far from home? After she was returned to England, her situation was sensationalized in the newspapers, which meant she’s enjoyed a life of public acclaim.  Due to her unconventional history, she’s very different from other young ladies and has no desire to ever be ordinary.

Luke Watson had an exciting career in the navy, but on his brother’s death, he’s come home to assume his role as Earl of Barrett. His brother, with his repeated scandals, ran the family’s reputation and estate into the ground, and Luke is determined to repair all that’s been destroyed by exhibiting stellar moral behavior at all times. He will wed the perfect aristocratic girl, settle down to a tedious country existence, and try to be content.

But when he meets Libby, sparks fly and passion ignites. She’s the complete opposite of the woman he thought he wanted in his life, but she just might be exactly who he needs…

SOMEONE TO CHERISH   m- Book 2

CHERYL HOLT delivers the second novel in her poignant and thrilling, Lost Girls trilogy…

Caroline Grey was just four years old when she was found stranded and alone by navy sailors on a deserted island in the Caribbean. When she was returned to England, she enjoyed a brief burst of notoriety. Who was she? Who had her parents been? Ultimately, she was claimed by her dour, miserly relatives who’ve treated her like an unwanted pauper. She’s spent her life trying to be accepted by those who should love her, but her haunting past has created too many obstacles. It’s difficult to fit in…

Caleb Ralston is a wealthy, infamous gambler who’s raging against the unfairness of life. After spending a decade in the navy, he was forced out of the post he treasured as he struggled to protect others from a scandal. As a result, he vowed to become very rich so he could avenge himself against the sort of affluent oafs who’ve always disdained him…

When he meets Caroline, he’s intrigued by her beauty and pluck, but she’s part of the world he loathes, and he could never bind himself to her. But Fate and destiny have other plans for Caleb, and Caroline might turn out to be just the woman he needs…

SOMEONE TO WED - Book 3

CHERYL HOLT delivers the third and final novel in her thrilling and delightful Lost Girls trilogy…

Joanna James had a brief moment of notoriety at age four when she survived a shipwreck in the Caribbean. She was returned to England and raised quietly in the country by a doting auntie. She’s descended from an ancient line of wise women, so she’s very different from other young ladies. She has the sight, and she can cast spells and brew potions, but she’s cautious with her peculiar gifts and hides them from her rural neighbors who don’t always understand her odd talents.

Captain Jacob Ralston works hard to be boring and ordinary. After learning at age ten that his notorious father was a bigamist and liar, he swore he’d grow up to be the most moral man in the kingdom. He would never rock a boat or raise a brow. After a stellar career in the navy, he’s determined to retire to the country, marry the fiancée his mother picked for him, and force himself to be content.

When he crosses paths with peculiar, fascinating Joanna, he’s instantly bowled over. She’s beautiful, intriguing, and not like any woman he’s ever met. He can’t imagine how he would ever bind himself, but Fate and destiny have other plans for him, and Joanna just might be the one woman who can make him happy forever…

Interview Questions

  1. Do you have a favorite character in this series?

I suppose my favorite character would have to be Libby Carstairs, the heroine of Book #1. When she was returned to England, she was claimed by an uncle who trained her for a life on the stage. So she’s spent her childhood, touring England and regaling audiences with tales of the shipwreck and her rescue by British sailors. She’s considered to be England’s “darling”, and she’s famous throughout the kingdom.

I like her because I’ve never used a heroine like her before. I always draft heroines who are very “ordinary” for the times. They’re poor cousins or spinsters or poverty-stricken young ladies. So Libby is a completely new kind of heroine for me, so it was really fun to write her.

2. You’re a very prolific writer, with nearly 60 books under your author belt. Who has been your most difficult character to write in all of your books?
I don’t ever have trouble writing a character. Before I ever sit down at my computer to begin a rough draft, I have spent weeks prepping the story. I have extensive character sketches written for each character, so I know exactly who they are before I start.

  1.  Tell us a little about your latest trilogy

This year, I’m releasing my “Lost Girls” trilogy.

For several summer now, I’ve been writing linked trilogies that have a defined premise that carries the plot through all three novels. In this series, the link is that the heroines were traveling to Jamaica with their families when they were little girls, and their ship sank in a terrible storm. Against all odds, they were the only survivors. They were found on a deserted island by British sailors, but no one could figure out how they survived—and they were too young to explain much of what had happened to them.

They were returned to England, where they enjoyed a bit of notoriety. Then they were separated and doled out to distant relatives. They never saw each other again. When the novels start, it’s the 20th anniversary of the shipwreck, and the three women’s lives are pitched off in new and exciting directions where they meet the men of the dreams.

The tears blur my vision, but I can still see the red stain on the floor muddled by the water that drips from my eyes.  I drag my hand under my nose, looking at the spatter around me.  Standing, I look at the sheets, more red.  The blankets are ripped, the sheets half off the bed.  Bedside lamp is on the floor, my phone screen is shattered.

Not knowing what else to do, I gather the linens from the bed and walk them down the hall, stuffing them into my front-loading washing machine before starting the load.  I gather the Clorox bleach spray and a wad of paper towels to clean the wood laminate floor.

It takes a while, but now it looks normal again. The blood is gone. Normal except for the bare mattress and the bleach smell.  By this time, I’m almost brave enough to look down. My tears are gone, my vision is clear.  I have been terrified to look, scared that I am the source of blood. A wound that I can’t face, or maybe can’t feel somewhere that might have caused this mess. I look down at my body, naked, spattered. I see no cuts, no anything that would suggest blood loss of this magnitude. My head hurts now, so much that I can't concentrate enough to be afraid, or think on what the last thing I remember is, or how I got here, who I might have brought home with me. The answers to the questions that the police would ask, if I were to go to them, which I won’t.

Blood, it’s drying on my thighs. I didn’t go to bed naked. I don’t even remember going to bed or coming home. But that is where I woke up, waking up when you didn’t even know you went to sleep, or passed out, or whatever the hell this is. I gingerly touch the back of my head, feeling the growing lump there.  My blonde hair feels matted, tangled.  Source of the headache.

The blood is mine... I think. At least the pain I have tells me that at least some of it is probably mine.

I’ve got no idea what happened.

Blood & Mud
by John Baltisberger
Genre: Jewish Kaiju Horror

Austin Poet and author, John Baltisberger, (ARTIFICE OF FLESH, THE CONFIGURATION DISCORDANT) makes his St Rooster Books debut with a powerful kaiju novella full of Jewish mysticism, death, and destruction.

When a good man is senselessly murdered during Chicago's Gay pride event, Satan summons a horrifying monster of old, releasing both his anger and the monster in defiance of Heaven and humanity.

BLOOD & MUD includes an essay on Jewish occultism and mythology, revealing the rich tapestry of mystery and history that inspired Baltisberger and this harrowing novella.

John never thought he would write horror or darker fiction, he was planning on writing fantasy. But something about setting all of the occult and fantastical elements of fantasy just behind the backdrop of the modern world appealed to him, and he wanted to introduce the world to the incredible mythology of mythic Judaism.

He spends his time squirreled away fervently working on the next book or engaging in the 'Obliterate the Globe' project, only taking breaks to record episodes of Madness Heart Radio and Wandering Monster, or to eat, or to play with puppies. John lives with his patient and gorgeous wife Desiree, and maniacal and powerful daughter Aziza. You can find him and the project at www.KaijuPoet.com
