trusted captain and confidante to her boss at Westin Charter Company, and
mentor to her young, ambitious co-pilot Bruce. Tris is offered a coveted
promotion and the opportunity of a lifetime—to fly a prestigious “angel
flight,” transporting a critically ill woman from a remote town in northern
Canada to the US for medical treatment.

But Tris needs more than professional success. Still alone almost three
years after her lover Bron’s death, Tris meets Mike, a local pilot with a
secret past he refuses to discuss. Their budding relationship stumbles when
Mike gets hired by Westin Charter to compete for the promotion Tris was
promised.

As Tris & Mike’s professional battle intensifies, their personal
relationship deepens.  Life is getting a whole lot more complicated for

The Cold War Begins by Roger L. Liles

Second Volume of the Berlin Tunnel Trilogy
Historical Fiction
To Be Published: September 8, 2020

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

From Amazon bestsellers list author Roger L. Liles comes the second volume
of his Cold War trilogy—THE COLD WAR BEGINS. The setting is
war-ravaged Berlin in late 1946. Spies from both sides begin to move with
relative ease throughout a Germany occupied by British, French, American and
Russian military forces. Kurt Altschuler, our hero, soon becomes one of
them.
While working behind enemy lines as an OSS agent in France during World War
II, Kurt learns that intelligence collection involves both exhilarating and
dangerous encounters with the enemy. He relished every moment he spent as
part of the vanguard confronting the Nazis.
That war has been over for 18 months when he is offered a job as a CIA
deep-cover agent in the devastated and divided city of Berlin. He jumps at
the opportunity, but is concerned that his guise as an Associated Press News
Agency reporter will offer little action. He need not worry. Soon, he is
working undercover, deep inside of Russian-controlled southeastern Germany.
Eventually, KGB agents waylay him and tear his car and luggage apart. His
chauffeur is beaten. He is threatened with prison, torture and death.
Enter Erica Hoffmann, a very attractive, aspiring East German archeology
student. Any relationship between an undercover CIA agent and an East German
woman is strictly forbidden; she might be a KGB or Stasi agent or operative.
But he cannot help himself—he has fallen hard for her. Kurt strives
assiduously to maintain their tempestuous, star-crossed relationship.
Eventually, Kurt works to counter the efforts of Russian and East German
spies, especially a mole who is devastating Western Intelligence assets
throughout Europe. He also must work to identify and expose enemy spies who
have penetrated the very fabric of the West German government and society.
He frequently observes to others that: “the spy business is like knife
fighting in a dark closet; you know you’re going to be cut up, you
just don’t know how bad.”

About the Author

Roger L. Liles decided he had to earn a living after a BA and graduate
studies in Modern European History. He went back to school and eventually
earned an MS in Engineering from the University of Southern California in
1970.
In the 1960s, he served as an Air Force Signals Intelligence Officer in
Turkey and Germany and eventually lived in Europe for a total of eight
years. He worked in the military electronics field for forty years—his
main function was to translate engineering jargon into understandable
English and communicate it to senior decision-makers in the
government.
Now retired after working for forty years as a senior engineering manager
and consultant with a number of aerospace companies, he spends his days
writing. His first novel, which was published in late 2018 was titled The
Berlin Tunnel—A Cold War Thriller. His second novel The Cold War
Begins was published in late 2020 and is the second volume in his planned
The Cold War Trilogy. This trilogy is based on extensive research into
Berlin during the spy-versus-spy era which followed World War II and his
personal experience while living and working in Europe. He is in the process
of writing its third volume of the trilogy which will be titled The Berlin
Tunnel—Another Crisis and takes the story into 1962 and the era of the
Cuban Missile Crisis.

Empire of Jackals by Morgan Cole

Empire
of Jackals
Chrysathamere
Trilogy Book 2
by
Morgan Cole

Genre:
Fantasy

The
war with Tyrace is over.

It
was supposed to be a time of celebration. Of triumph. But for Marilia
Sandara, hero of Chrysathamere Pass, the cost was too high. After
watching he childhood friends slaughtered before her eyes, all she
wants to do is sail back to Svartennos and try to forget the price
she had to pay for her victory.

But
the peace isn’t long to last. After Emperor Vergana makes a
shocking announcement—that he means to disinherit his true-born
son, Rufyllys, in favor of his adopted child, Prince Ilruyn—the
seeds are sown that will plunge Navessea back into war. This time,
Marilia and her twin brother, Annuweth, find themselves on opposite
sides of a conflict that threatens to undo all they fought for. By
the time the dust settles and the killing stops, only one of the
children of Karthtag-Kal may be left standing.

Marilia,
The Warlord
Chrysathamere
Trilogy Book 1

Born
the bastard daughter of a painted lady, Marilia was told she would
live out her days within the walls of her mother’s brothel, a
companion for the rich men of Tyrace. But after a terrible betrayal,
Marilia’s world turns upside down. With the help of her twin
brother, Annuweth, she flees the only home she’s ever known in
search of the one man who can offer her a chance at a better life:
one of her deceased father’s friends, the Emperor of Navessea’s
greatest general.

What
follows is a journey spanning years, from the streets of the desert
city of Tyracium to the splendor of the emperor’s keep and the
wind-swept, wild island of Svartennos. Along the way, Marilia
discovers, for the first time, the gift she has for strategy and
warfare—a world that is forbidden to girls like her.

When
the empire is threatened by a foreign invasion, the defense of
Navessea is left in the hands of a cruel and arrogant general no
match for the empire's foes. With the fate of her new home and her
family hanging in the balance, Marilia swears to use all her courage
and cunning to help repel the enemy...if she can convince anyone to
follow her.

The
struggle that follows will test her to her core and lead her back to
the past she thought she had escaped. Facing treachery within her own
ranks as well as a devious enemy commander, Marilia will need all the
help she can get, even if it means doing something her brother may
never forgive—making a pact with the man who murdered her
father.

Inspired
by The Song of Achilles and Ender’s Game, Marilia, the Warlord is a
blend of the epic and the personal, a story of war, romance, envy,
the rivalry between brother and sister, and a young woman’s fight
to find her place in the world.

After
being bombarded with one too many school motivational posters, I
decided to “shoot for the moon” by pursuing a risky double-major
in creative writing and history on the assumption that the worst-case
scenario would be landing among the stars. I instead landed in
long-term unemployment—and unpaid internships, let’s not forget
the unpaid internships—in small-town Ohio. Eventually, after
several re-writes and two unhappy years, my first novel (not counting
a couple of incredibly pretentious high fantasy books from my high
school and college years that have all hopefully been hunted down and
burned) was picked up by a literary agent—and then put back down
when it was determined it was not marketable to a young adult
audience.

Eventually,
I began making more financially sound life choices and now work as an
attorney in the public sector while continuing to write on the side.

Genre: Suburban Women's Fiction

Color coded love stories and revealing female anatomies lead to the murder of world renowned sculptor, Bruce Jones.
In life, the artist loved women, almost as much as women loved him. Adored for his art and colorful personality, Bruce is mourned by the world at large. The tale is launched with the multifaceted perspectives of four ex-wives, the current wife, and his new love interest and their children.
Mary , Bruce’s wealthy first love, is always in perfect pink; the color of love. Mother of Clair the famous actress and Aaron the corporate lawyer.
Leslie The Second’s color is yellow for her sunny nature as much as for her fears and insecurities. Her only son Bobby is vulnerable and lost. Mourning his father’s death, he finds himself.
Petra The Third, is outstanding in orange, representing not only her native Holland but also her love of the fruit. Cherished her freedom and had no children of her own.
Toni The Fourth is a vibrant passionate Italian red and part of the eventual glue that creates and solidifies this dysfunctional Jones family. Her teenage daughters Tina and Isa are as different as night and day.
Brooke The Fifth a gold-digger. Green, her color, reflects the color of money and envy. Her young son’s Kyle and Caleb are too young to understand why their world has been turned upside-down.
Mara, as blue as the ocean was the last woman to steal Bruce’s heart. Mother to newborn Baby Peter is the unexpected gift and surprise.
Bruce Jones’ eight children speak out, too. They are as distinctive as the women he loved, their mothers.
Loose ends are tied up by the insights of Sylvia, Aaron’s wife and a trusted keeper of secrets; Scott, the private investigator and family friend; Nona, the quintessential grandmother everyone loves but to whom few are truly related; and Detective Jim Miller who will not rest until he discovers Bruce Jones’ murderer.
