Random Acts of Baby by Julia Kent blitz

Random Acts of Baby
Julia Kent
(Random #11)
Publication date: August 14th 2020
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, Romance

You know those television stories about the woman who goes to the emergency room thinking she has a bad case of indigestion or kidney stones or a burst appendix and she comes home with a bouncing baby boy?

Stupid woman, right? Who the hell doesn’t know she’s pregnant for nine and a half months? I used to think those mamas were one block short of a level trailer.

Used to.

Random Acts of Baby is the 11th book in Julia Kent’s New York Times bestselling series as Darla, Trevor, and Joe go on a long, crazy journey involving a baby, living two lives, and learning who you can count on most when you need a helping hand.

EXCERPT:

Her hand clamped on my knee, moving up the inseam of my jeans so fast my cock turned into a paratrooper, leaping toward that palm.

“Take the next rest area,” she said, just as we crossed the state line for Ohio.

“What?”

“Old time’s sake.”

Deciphering her words took more effort than it should have. “You need a bathroom? We’re less than half an hour away.”

“I need to ride your one-eyed trouser snake.”

“Huh?”

“I. Want. Sex,” she said slowly, drawing out the words with an aligned tone, as if saying them this way were diplomatic.

“Now? Here? While I’m driving? I’m flexible and up for anything, but not while I’m careening down the Ohio Turnpike at 72 miles per hour. Even I have sexual limits.”

“No. At the nearest rest area.”

“Are you serious?’

“Do I ever joke about sex?”

“No.”

“Then shut up and put on your turn signal.”

Author Bio:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent writes romantic comedy with an edge. Since 2013, she has sold more than 2 million books, with 4 New York Times bestsellers and more than 19 appearances on the USA Today bestseller list. Her books have been translated into French and German, with more titles releasing in 2020 and beyond.

From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men's room toilet (and he isn't a billionaire she met in a romantic comedy).

She lives in New England with her husband and three children where she is the only person in the household with the gene required to change empty toilet paper rolls.

Author Bio:

Rosalie Jardin is the pen name an American-born author living in British Columbia. Writing has been a passion since she was five, beginning with telling stories- which often got her in trouble with her teachers because they kept catching her writing instead of doing her schoolwork.

Rosalie considers herself to be living the glamorous geek mom life and channels that energy into her writings and her debut novel. Her characters rumble around in her head, demanding to have their stories told and, like any good author, she is just doing what she’s told.

HEYNA Q Strawberry Makeup Sponge Blender

I really like this Strawberry Makeup Sponge Blender by HEYNA Q. It is a very cute strawberry shaped and looking sponge. It is made from Non-latex Premium Polyurethane and natural pigment. It is perfect for wet and dry make up application. It swells almost double in size when it is wet. I like that it does not soak the makeup in and not let it go like some of the other sponges I have used in the past. I also love the almost pointed tip at the bottom. It is great for applying around my eyes and the perfect size and shape.

It works great with foundation, BB cream, powder, concealer, isolation, liquid makeups. I noticed no smell at all when I first opened the box or even the first time I used it. A slight bit of red came out in the water when I rinsed it out when I first got it but I have not noticed it doing it again. It did not leave a red tint to my make up either.

Applying make up is so much easier using a sponge as is blending make up. This sponge is super soft and squishy and works amazingly well. It is so hard to find a good sponge but to find a great one is really rare.

secrets disappear from one generation to the next. Kate Earnshaw's
father's suicide has left many unanswered questions. In handling his
estate she wonders if she ever really knew him. He never explained why
he let his childhood home in Eastern Colorado fall into ruin or why he'd
kept the property a secret. And he never told Kate about his close
friendship with Evan Hastings, the handsome and somewhat puzzling man
who lives on the property near the abandoned house. Evan seems to have
as many secrets as her father and knows more about him than Kate did.
But there’s something about Evan that calls her back to her father’s
home. Something that threatens to unearth more than the past. Legacy of
Secrets explores family secrets, a daughter's grief and her search for
answers, and a chance for love.

My Review:
In the book Kate has just lost her father to suicide but cannot comes to grips with it. After the will is read she inherits a piece of property and a house she knew nothing about. She goes on a personal journey to get to know her father better so she can understand the reasons for his suicide but all the time in her mind she feels he did not commit suicide.

When she gets to the house she inherits her life actually takes many turns. The house is dilapidated and falling down. While there she meets Evan Hastings. The man who lives next door to the property and the self appointed caretaker so to speak. Sh learns that not only did her father come to the property many times but also has a friendship with Evan.

Jealousy seems to rear its ugly head. There is an immediate connection between Kate and Evan but Kate cannot get past the part that Evan knows a lot about her father that she never did. When Evan tries to let her into the friendship he had with her father she blows up and stalks off, multiple times may I add.

In the end she feels she pulled even tighter towards murder. The story is filled with twists and turns. The narration was pretty good. As with any book there were parts I enjoyed and Parts I did not but it was still worth my time.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

GUEST POST from Helen Starbuck,
author of LEGACY OF SECRETS

I love my characters. A plot without characters the reader (and author) can relate to isn’t worth reading in my opinion. I draw from my nursing and writing background, my love of reading, and my counseling psychology degree to flesh out my characters. I write what I love to read, romantic suspense and mystery. Overhearing a conversation, seeing a photograph, walking and letting my mind wander, listening to music, and attending writing retreats and seminars are all sources of inspiration for characters and plots. And sometimes characters and plots just pop out of my imagination fully grown.

Legacy of Secrets, my new book, is set in Eastern Colorado, a ranching and farming area made up of both large and small towns. As a native Coloradan, I’m familiar with the setting. The town of Ardwell, Colorado, is a figment of my imagination, but representative of small towns in the state.

The idea for the book was the result of a writing seminar where the presenter spread photos of iconic paintings on a table, asked participants to choose one that spoke to him or her, and write for fifteen minutes. I chose one that showed an old house sitting in the midst of a field of overgrown grass. That house became the abandoned Earnshaw family home, which figures prominently in the story about a father with many secrets.

I wanted to tackle the subject of suicide and the effects it has on those left behind. As children I don’t believe we ever really know our parents. We think we do, but we know them as parents not ‘people.’ I wanted to explore a daughter’s grief and her discovery of the many secrets her father had kept. I wanted to explore a small community and it’s residents, and how these affect my main character, Kate Earnshaw, during her journey to discover who her father was and why he committed suicide.

My next romantic suspense novel is, Finding Alex. A woman assaulted, left for dead, and now amnesic, may be the only surviving victim of a killer who’s targeting prostitutes and leaving their bodies without fingertips to complicate their identification. She has her fingertips, but Denver homicide detective Blake Halloran must try to identify her and hope her memory returns so he can find the killer. I think readers will enjoy it.

The City That Barks and Roars by J.T. Bird

The City That Barks and Roars
by J.T. Bird
Genre: Mystery Fiction

Animals rule the world

They hit cafes for breakfast then nine to five at the office, and fritter away evenings at jazz clubs.

But paradise is still a distant dream, for there are devils amongst the angels.

Lucas Panda is missing; clues on the riverbank suggest he was probably kidnapped. Enter Frank. Who else you gonna call? Hard-boiled penguin and the finest detective in town. And meet his new partner, Detective Chico Monkey - yeah, the wisecrackin' kid with all the snappy suits. But the stakes have been raised; three more creatures are missing and the citizens of Noah's Kingdom are faced with possible extinction. Can the grouchy bird and plucky young ape save the city from doom? Or, will evil prevail and escape the claws of justice?

'Animal noir' peppered with plenty of humour; this thrilling debut novel from award-winning comedian JT Bird is an intriguing blend of Jungle Book and Chinatown (Zootopia for grown-ups?! Watership Down with Fedoras!?) - perfect for fans of animal fiction, or mysteries, adventure and crime. A gripping yarn, packed with weird and wonderful creatures, for youngsters and adults alike (or anyone who's crying out for anthropomorphic detectives!!)

J T Bird is an award-winning stand-up comedian from North London, where he lives with his wife and child. His humble abode sits neatly between the former homes of HG Wells and Robert Louis Stevenson...so there's no pressure to write something utterly successful and wonderful.
Bird was actually 'The Chosen One' that prophets foresaw would rescue the world from all the powers of darkness - however, he opted for a career as a clown and author instead...

Another little known fact - his father was sent from the future to protect him from an android assassin, and his mother's possessed by a demon - but hey, we all have family issues right?!
