The Christian Christmas Condition by Scott Rankin

Christian - Holiday - self spirit improvement
Date Published: December 2019

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

What do you want for Christmas? We all hear this question everywhere, but author Scott Rankin invites us all to slow down for a moment and ask a different question... What does God want for Christmas? Our Lord desires that we become more Christ-like every day (1 Corinthians 11:1). To accomplish this goal, He tells us to renew our minds (Romans 12:2). But how do the Christmas holidays help accomplish this goal if so much busyness and stress make it hard to focus all our attention on Christ and completely rest in His peace? In an easy-to-read format, "The Christian Christmas Condition" takes a new and refreshing look by asking the question, “How does our Lord feel about Christmas today?” encouraging Christians of all ages to examine Christmas-time traditions from God's perspective. Filled with Bible references, this study will boost your faith, increase your knowledge, and strengthen you to fully honor Jesus in the midst of Christmas, traditions, and busy holiday activities, and reveal the secret of what God says in the Bible about Christmas today! Whether your family participates in Advent, Hanukkah, midnight mass, uses a Christmas tree, or watches for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, this powerful book encourages all Christians to become more Christ-like in our thinking and our actions each, and every day of the year... not just in the winter holidays!

Excerpt

Increasing her pace, a chill worked its way through Evie’s limbs. The sun
was almost finished setting, and that meant it would be dark soon. Evie hated
the dark. She was automatically at a disadvantage with Troy in the dark.
Another disadvantage she should say. He could still see, she was blind. It was
an extra layer of protection for him, like he needed that.
Luca had offered Evie a ride, but she’d declined, hoping the fresh air
would clear her mind. As the echoes of her steps filled the air, she started to
regret her decision. At this very moment, she could be sitting next to him in
his warm car, breathing in his musky scent.
Evie could almost hear his deep voice in the back of her mind. Feel the
vibration of his words. A smile touched Evie’s lips at the thought.
No. What was she doing?
Shaking her head, Evie pushed down the feelings. Feelings were dangerous.
They were the reason she was where she was in her life at the moment. Luca was
dangerous to her. She had to keep her distance, no matter how much her body
wanted her to do otherwise.
As the hairs on the back of Evie’s neck stood up, she suddenly had the
feeling of being followed.  Subtly, as to
not draw any attention, Evie turned her head to look down the road behind her.
Nothing.
Taking a calming breath, she forced herself to maintain her pace, even
though her legs wanted to race. She could see her house up ahead. Then she
would be inside with the semblance of safety. Not far to go.
A rustling noise behind Evie sounded. This time she did stop. Turning,
she stared out to the empty street. Again, there was nothing. About to turn
back, the sight of fresh shoe tracks in the mud next to the path caught her
attention.
Turning back to her house, this time, she did increase her pace.
Stop being stupid, Evie, there are dozens of people who use this path.
So why did it stick out to her?

Book Description:

“She wasn’t dreaming, in a coma,
having a mental breakdown, or in hell.
She was abducted by aliens.”

Before Commander Torek Renaar can
return to active duty, he’s ordered to purchase an animal companion to help
relieve his PTSD symptoms. But having been a caretaker for and lost a loved
one, keeping even one little human alive is a challenge he feels doomed to
fail. It doesn’t help that his animal companion is the newest, most exotic
breed on the market, demanding constant attention, daily grooming, and delicate
handling. If she doesn’t die first in his incompetent care, she’ll be the death
of him.

After witnessing the murder of
her domestication specialist, Delaney McCormick allows her new owner to treat
her like the pet he believes her to be. If anyone suspects she’s more
intelligent than a golden retriever, her murder would be next. She endures the
humiliation of being washed, the tediousness of being trained to “sit” and
“come,” and the intrigue of hearing private conversations. But in Torek’s care,
she finds something unexpected on this antarctic planet, something she never
had in all her years on Earth while house-hopping between foster families: a
home.

As companionship grows to love,
must Delaney continue the charade, acting like an animal and hiding from the
murderer waiting on her misstep? Or can she trust Torek with her secrets, even
if the truth threatens everything he holds dear—and both their lives?

About
the Author:

Melody Johnson is the author of the
“out of this world” Love Beyond series and the gritty, paranormal romance Night
Blood series published by Kensington Publishing/ Lyrical Press. The City
Beneath (Night Blood, book 1) was a finalist in the “Cleveland Rocks” and “Fool
For Love” contests.

Melody graduated magna cum laude
from Lycoming College with her B.A. in creative writing and psychology.
Throughout college, she wrote contemporary love stories, but having read and
adored the action and dark mystery of vampires her whole life, decided to add
her fingerprint to the paranormal genre.

Melody's unique perspective on
vampires lends fresh bite to a classic paranormal genre. In addition to a
reimagined transformation—the requirement of night blood—vampires have
gargoyle-looking, vicious day forms, an orgasmic bite, and as the series
progresses to Sweet Last Drop (book 2), a mindless, rampaging, zombie-like
breed is introduced. Melody is constantly upping the stakes, and Day Reaper
(book 4) is no exception.

Beyond the Next Star is an exciting
branch from Melody's paranormal romance roots, keeping the dark grit from her
Night Blood Series and taking it to new worlds. Told from the dual perspectives
of both human pet and alien owner, Melody's story weaves a slow-burn romance
that explores the bonds of love in all its forms, navigating the main
characters’ relationship in delicate stages from oblivious ownership to woke,
romantic love.

After moving from her northeast
Pennsylvania hometown for some much needed Southern sunshine, Melody now works
as a digital media coordinator for Southeast Georgia Health System’s marketing
department. When she isn’t working or writing, Melody can be found swimming at
the beach, reading at the pool, and exploring her new home in southeast
Georgia.

EXCERPT:

Outside, the sounds of summer surrounded them. Crick- ets trilled, calling for company. A light veil of humidity hung in the air, not quite stifling yet. Come July and August, humidity would be heavy and unpleasant. Hopefully, Mother Nature would play nice for Founders’ Day and make the days and evenings pleasant.

“Where did you park your car?” he asked.

“Behind the shop.”

“Okay.” Tate headed in that direction, aware that he still had his arm around Kelly’s shoulders. Interesting. Why hadn’t she shaken him off? Not that he was complaining. She fit snugly, and he could get used to it.

A second later, she took a step to the right and his arm slipped to his side. The universe liked to give and then take away from him pretty quickly.

“You don’t have to walk me to my car, Tate. I’m a big girl and can get there by myself. The town is safe.”

He shoved his hands in his pocket to stop from reaching for her again. “I’m aware of that, but Dad would box my ears if he knew I’d let you walk alone after spending the evening with you.”

“Ahh, the gentlemanly gestures. It’s kind of sad they’re dying out.”

“You sound like you don’t want that to happen. You do know you just told me I didn’t have to do one of those gentlemanly gestures with dinner.”

She shrugged. “I have mixed feelings. I’ve been on my own for a long time. I’m an independent business owner. I’m in charge of my own life. And I love that, but when I listen to Mom talk about the early days of her and Dad’s courtship, it kind of makes me sad that some of those traditions are being lost. Some days, I’d like to experience it, and other days I don’t.”

Tate itched to rest his arm on her lower back as they walked down the darkened alley by her shop. Would this be one of those gestures she wanted? He compromised and raised his hand to her lower back, not touching but close enough that he could if she needed it. “I’m sure in time a balance will be struck that will please everyone.”

“I hope so,” she murmured as they stopped by her car, unlocking it. The flashing lights brightened the night for a heartbeat.

Deciding to risk it, he leaned around her and opened the door for her. “I had a really nice evening tonight, Kel. Thanks for asking me to join you.”

She looked up at him, the action bringing her face closer to his. In the muted glow from the only light in the parking lot, he caught the way her tongue darted out to moisten her lips. Tate bit back a groan. Memories from earlier in the day when he’d been tempted to kiss her in his kitchen slammed into him. His blood heated and his lower body tightened in his jeans.

He didn’t miss the increase in her breathing. “Kel?” he asked, sure of what he wanted but not wanting to assume she wanted the same thing.

“Tate,” she whispered and swayed a fraction toward him.

He rested his hand on her hip and lowered his head, keeping his eyes open. If she pulled back, he would give her space. Only she raised her face and their lips met.
