Publication Date: May 28, 2019
Lion Heart Publishing
eBook & Paperback; 312 Pages

Genre: Fiction/Romance/Historical/American

One look at Baby Doe and you know she was meant to be a legend! She was just twenty years old when she came to Colorado to work a gold mine with her new husband. Little did she expect that she'd be abandoned and pregnant and left to manage the gold mine alone. But that didn't stop her!

She moved to Leadville and fell in love with a married prospector, twice her age. Horace Tabor struck the biggest silver vein in history, divorced his wife and married Baby Doe. Though his new wife was known for her beauty, her fashion, and even her philanthropy, she was never welcomed in polite society.

Discover how the Tabors navigated the worlds of wealth, power, politics, and scandal in the wild days of western mining.

Praise for Gold Digger

“Rosenberg’s rollicking Western adventure strikes gold with a gutsy, good-hearted spitfire of a heroine and action aplenty.” —THELMA ADAMS, bestselling author of Bittersweet Brooklyn and The Last Woman Standing

"Gold Digger tells the true story of Lizzie 'Baby Doe' Tabor, a beautiful young woman who in 1878 marries the son of a wealthy miner in order to save her family from penury. Shrewd and stubborn, Lizzie fights back-biting Victorian society, wins and loses vast fortunes, and bests conniving politicians in her larger-than-life story. A twisting tale worthy of Mark Twain, with a big-hearted heroine at the center." —MARTHA CONWAY, author of The Underground River

Interview with Rebecca Rosenberg,
author of GOLD DIGGER,
The Remarkable Baby Doe Tabor

What is your favorite part of this book and why? Oh, my goodness, do I have to choose? That’s like choosing your favorite child!

I guess I had the most fun with adding all the colorful Wild West characters that create the spirited atmosphere of the Gold Rush. I loved writing the 6’6” Chinese mine foreman, Chin Sou Lin, who spoke very little, but dressed as a Chinese dragon/lion to save her from danger. I love the scenes with Oscar Wilde, he says hilarious and true things. I also like the scenes when Baby Doe Tabor is up against impossible odds and tries anyway.

If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?

I feel like I’ve already spent ten years with Baby Doe Tabor, reading her diaries, walking her steps, insinuating myself into her life to feel all her challenges! Still, I would like to spend a day with her and get her set up after tabor dies. If life was hard before her husband died, it got way worse afterward! I would like to help her have a wonderful old age, not desperately working the way she did.

If you could have been the author of any book ever written, which book would you choose?

Gone with the Wind. Maybe you can see how much I love to tell a personal story so readers can feel the historical time like the Gold Rush in Gold Digger.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

Every character is real in Gold Digger. Some of the names have been changed to protect their descendants!

What made you want to become a writer?

GOLD DIGGER, The Remarkable Baby Doe Tabor is what started me writing. I heard about her when I was a girl, this amazing beautiful twenty-year old that came west for a gold mine with her husband, and ended up abandoned, pregnant and working the mine, alone. Then she finds and old prospector, married and twice her age, who strikes the biggest silver vein in history. Of course, the country scandalized them when Tabor divorced his wife and married Baby Doe. They lived extravagantly and generously until the silver crash of 1893 and lost it all. I had to tell Baby Doe’s side of the legend.

I hope you’ll stay in touch!

GENRE:   sci fi-romance
Annie used to believe in all that happily ever after crap, until the day she found out her Prince Charming husband was a conman with a wandering eye. On the same day she booted him to the curb, an alien fleet double-parked over Earth and life as she knew it ended. To survive she joined a militia unit and used her unique physic powers to fight off the alien invaders. She was so successful she earned the swell nickname of the Grim Reaper. Now she must fight for her own freedom because Saul Jones, a Coletti-hybrid warlord, has decided she’s his and he won’t stop until he possesses her.

General Saul Jones has his hands full. Not only is he a four-star Marine general, he’s also a Coletti warlord. To complicate matters, he’s the Coletti Overlord’s liaison to Earth and one of the patriarchs of “the” Jones clan. Raising his blood pressure even more is his teenage psychic daughter who has found her mate before she’s of legal age. Can you say raging hormones? Not to mention the headaches of dealing with all the interspecies head-butting and Central Command. He has a million and one things needing his attention and at long last he discovers the other half of his soul. Annie Russell aka the Grim Reaper. Instead of running into his arms, Annie’s running as far and fast as she can.

A look at a set of Coletti Daggers

Read an Excerpt:

A shuttle flew over the canyon.

I smiled. The General had arrived without any backup. The cocky guy thought he would block my stun grenades and simply overpower me. I was about to show him the error of his plan.

“You’re trapped. There’s no way out of the canyon.”

“Okay. Is this where I’m supposed to start pleading for mercy?”

“A smart woman would start apologizing.” There was a note of anger in the General’s voice.

“For what?”

“You’ve broken numerous laws and you had those blasted birds shit on me.”

“I did and I’m not apologizing for it.”

“Most people fear Coletti warlords,” the General snapped.

“News flash. I don’t find you that scary. Did you flunk the “How to be a Big, Bad Warlord” course?” I swatted at a bee buzzing around my head.

“Your husband turned you into an angry, bitter woman,” General Jones stated grimly.

I flinched. He was right. Annie, the romantic, was dead and buried. “Hell, my prick of a husband, taught me that love is an illusion and to never, ever trust a man. In the end he will betray you and all you have left are the ashes of your dreams.”

“I’m sorry, darlin’.”

About the Author:

I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for the Glendale Police Department and to keep from going totally bonkers – I mean people have no idea what a real emergency is. Take this for example: I answered, “9-1-1 emergency, what’s your emergency?” And this hysterical woman yelled, “My bird is in a tree.” Sometimes I really couldn’t help myself, so I said, “Birds have a tendency to do that, ma’am.” The woman screeched, “No! You don’t understand. My pet parakeet is in the tree. I’ve just got to get him down.” Like I said, not a clue. “I’m sorry ma’am but we don’t get birds out of trees.” The woman then cried, “But… What about my husband? He’s up there, too.” See what I had to deal with? To keep from hitting myself repeatedly in the head with my phone I took up writing.

My
love of reading romance fiction goes back to those early years when I
was raising a young family. It wasn't until much later in life, that
I actually took up the pen to write and my first historical romance,
Wind Warrior was born. I don't fit into one specific genre. When the
ideas start to flow, lord only knows what category they'll fit into
**wink wink **

I
wish I could have gotten to this point in my career much sooner
rather than later, but life simply got in the way far too many times.
Because of those multiple detours, however, I have become a more
passionate and expressive writer and can draw upon those painful
moments in my past, when I need to create the kind of raw human
emotion I want my readership to feel.

It
is my hope you walk away with not just an entertaining read, but the
importance in knowing, "Without imagination & dreams, we
lose the excitement of wonderful possibilities."

The futuristic world of Craigluy has been divided into three territories and three economic classes. A large wall separates the territories, so the poor cannot mingle with the rich.

Emma Whisperer is the last child to survive. She is the last child born in lower-class Territory L before the law was instituted in the year 2080. She is the last eighteen-year-old.

Emma struggles to understand why she was spared while others weren’t. She doesn’t like the laws and believes they should be repealed. Her family doesn’t agree with her; they discourage her rebellious streak. Yet, she helps them to cover up their own family rebellion. She helps them to hide a big secret, a secret that could be both disastrous and deadly for members of their family.

EXCERPT 2
My brain checks
back in on the conversation. My mother is still going on about her day.
“I was able to
pick up some fruit from the market. The apples and pears were fresh. We can
have them for dessert on Sunday, along with the whipped cream Emma picked up.”
She puts on a fake smile. “They don’t always have it, since it is only for
special occasions. Thanks for going back to the store to get it. I forgot it
when I was there earlier. I hope you didn’t have a hard time finding it.”
“It is fine,
Mother,” I say, softly.
Sundays are
special in Territory L. It is the day families are supposed to stay in and
enjoy each other’s company. The day we get to eat chicken or fish, instead of
beans and soup. It is the day we play old board games and read old books. Pears
and apples are what my mother considers dessert. Maybe this Sunday will be even
more special because we’re going to have whipped cream on our fruit. We never
had it before. I guess whipped cream will make it look more desirable. So,
while Territory U has pie and cake, we’ll have fruit with whipped cream
topping.
“Is there any
more milk?” Theodore asks.
“I had your
sister pick some up on her way back.”
“Yes, T,” I say,
chiming in. I always call him T, for short. “There is a fresh carton in the
fridge. Try not to drink it all. It has to last for at least the next week.”
I watch as he
narrows his eyes in my direction, then he stands with his glass in hand and
goes to the kitchen. He is such a child, sometimes I can’t even tell he is
nineteen.
“So, how was
your day, Emma?” My father turns to me. He just put a spoonful of beans in his
mouth. He clears his throat and continues. “I mean, before you ran that
errand.”
Every time
someone talks about the errand, I cringe. It is as if a knife has been put
through my stomach because we have such a hard time even saying what the errand
is. And the whole thing leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I try to forget about
the errand, for now, and dwell on his question—how my day was.
“If you’re
asking me if I found a job yet, I haven’t.” I take a sip of water. “There is
not much to do around here.”
“There is, if
you want to be cashier at the market or a salesperson at the clothing store.”
“Those aren’t
real jobs. Sorry,” I add, glancing over at him.
He has always
said it didn’t matter what the job is because any job, even if it isn’t
glamorous, should be respected. Judging by the slant in his eyebrows that makes
the lines in his forehead crease, he didn’t take kindly to what I just said.
“What I meant to
say,” I continue, “is I want to go to college and be a doctor like you, Dad, or
a teacher like Mom was. It is not fair—”
“We can’t keep
having this discussion every night,” Mother cuts in, her voice curt. “I know it
is disappointing that there are no colleges and no continued education for you.
And I also know you don’t want any of the jobs the territory has to offer—”
“But that is the
way it is, and you have to deal with it,” says Father, cutting her off.
“I’m not hungry
anymore.” I push my plate aside.
I know it is
foolish because around here you don’t always know where your next meal is
coming from, but I can’t stomach the same conversation along with the same dry
food every night.
“May I be
excused?” I lower my head.
“Yes, Emma. You
may.” My mother’s tone is soft. “And Em, things will get better,” she says with
sad eyes.
She always says
that. I think, more for herself than for me. But things never get better. They
always stay the same, or get worse.

Interview with L.J. Epps

Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?
I have to say my characters seem to hijack the story.  I usually have somewhat of an outline that I go by. As I dive more into my manuscript sometimes the outline just gets pushed to the side and I just start going with the flow.  The words just start to come together…so I guess I could be called a panster. The words come and the story takes on a new and different direction…and I’m no longer following the outline.  The characters just hijack the story.

Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.
I believe my novel or series is a must read because in the words of some of my readers it’s a thrill ride that keeps on going. There are twists and turns and you don’t know what’s going to happen next. It reminds some of Divergent and The Hunger Games. It gets you hooked from the beginning and doesn’t let up.  It’s intriguing and refreshing and somewhat scary. Its action packed and fast paced. It’s also a fun enjoyable read.  I think all of these elements make it a must read. I hope others agree with me.

Have you written any other books that are not published?
Yes, I have a completed women’s fiction/romance manuscript that just needs a little editing. It has a working title that I plan on changing.  I hope to have it released by the end of the year or beginning of next year.

Pen or type writer or computer?
I normally use a computer to complete my manuscripts. It’s the easiest way for me to get my thoughts and words down quickly.

Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

I’m not sure if I have any fans out there. Lol   But to all my readers I would like to thank you for taking a chance on an unknown author.  I would like to thank you for reading my novel and embracing it enough to leave reviews. I welcome all of your comments good and bad.  Each and every comment or review I receive helps me to become a better writer. For all of the readers who I have emailed back and forth with I want to say thanks for taking the time to email me back.  I appreciate it all.

Love At The Shore by Teri Wilson

Love At The Shore
Teri Wilson
Published by: Hallmark Publishing
Publication date: June 11th 2019
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Romance
She came to the beach to write…

But she’s getting distracted by the surfer next door.
Jenna, a single mom and successful author, has five weeks to deliver her next young adult novel to the publisher. This year’s summer getaway with her kids will be a working vacation.
The only problem? Lucas, the devil-may-care surfer in the beach rental next to hers. He cranks up his music at night, hosts loud volleyball matches, and allows his dog to run around at will.
Jenna often blames him for her writer’s block. But before long, she begins to see a new side of her neighbor at the shore. Maybe opposites do attract…but will that attraction fade like a sunset once summer is gone?
This funny, emotional romance includes a free Hallmark original recipe for Shrimp Scampi.
EXCERPT:
Lucas McKinnon unzipped his wet suit, peeled it down to his waist, and let the spray of the outdoor shower beat the salt and sand off his torso. If there was one thing he liked almost as much as a morning surf, it was a nice, hot shower afterward. The fact that the shower on the lower deck of the beach house offered him a clear, unobstructed view of the shore made it even sweeter.
The sea was unusually still today, as smooth and glassy as a mirror. Not so great for surfing, but undeniably pretty to look at it. Without the usual spray coming off the breakers, he could see the lighthouse looming in the distance. Just off the shore, a pair of dolphins crested the flat surface of the water, their silver forms glistening in the morning sunlight.
The calm before the storm.
Or so it seemed. In reality, the forecast was mild. Lucas checked the surf report every day like clockwork, and according to the TybeeWaves web site, there wouldn’t be a raindrop in sight. Still, he couldn’t remember the last time his little slice of the beach had been so serene. It was nearly as unsettling as it was beautiful.
Then, just as he was about to flick the shower faucet to the off position, the stillness of the moment came to a colorful, bewildering close as a woman came bounding down the stairs.
“What the heck?” She gaped at him, wide-eyed and frozen in place.
For a minute, Lucas thought she might turn around and bolt back up the stairs.
“Whoa. Sorry, I’m sorry. I didn’t expect a shower.” Cheeks ablaze, she swallowed and averted her gaze. “Right in the middle of our place.”
“Sorry about that.” He gave the faucet a crank to the left and the shower’s stream came to a dripping halt. “You must be the new neighbor.”
The trickle of water slowed to a stop.
Plop.

Plop.

Plop.

Three slow drops, and she still couldn’t bring herself to look at him.
“Um, yeah. We just checked in,” she said to a nearby hibiscus bush, then nodded at the bin in her hands. “I just wanted to find somewhere to put this.”
Wow, this was one jumpy woman. Lucas wasn’t sure he’d ever seen a person who vibrated with such nervous energy. It rolled off of her in waves.
The forecast had been wrong. A storm had most definitely come to town. From the looks of things, a Category Four. Maybe even a Five.
