Great Summer Reads Countdown Blitz Chronicles of the Stone by Fiona Ingram Day 2

I am a children’s author, but up until a few years ago, I was a journalist and editor. Something rather unexpected sparked my new career as an author—a family trip to Egypt with my mother and two young nephews. We had a great time and I thought I’d write them a short story as a different kind of souvenir…. Well, one book and a planned book series later, I had changed careers. I have now published Book 3 (The Temple of the Crystal Timekeeper) in my MG adventure series Chronicles of the Stone, with many awards for the first book, The Secret of the Sacred Scarab, and a few for Book 2, The Search for the Stone of Excalibur, and one already for Book 3! I also teach online novel writing for aspiring authors and I find that very satisfying. Relaxation time finds me enjoying something creative or artistic, music, books, theatre or ballet. I love doing research for my book series. I love animals and have written two animal rescue stories. I have two adorable (naughty) little dogs called Chloe and Pumpkin, and a beautiful black cat called Bertie.

 A
5000-year-old mystery comes to life when a scruffy peddler gives Adam and
Justin Sinclair an old Egyptian scarab on their very first day in Egypt. Only
when the evil Dr. Faisal Khalid shows a particular interest in the cousins and
their scarab, do the boys realise they are in terrible danger.

Justin and Adam
embark upon the adventure of a lifetime, taking them down the Nile and across
the harsh desert in their search for the legendary tomb of the Scarab King, an
ancient Egyptian ruler. They are plunged into a whirlpool of hazardous and
mysterious events when Dr. Khalid kidnaps them.  With
just their wits, courage, and each other, the boys manage to survive … only to
find that the end of one journey is the beginning of another!

This is a must-read for Middle Graders keen on action, adventure, and
Arthurian stories!

Cousins Adam and Justin Sinclair are
hot on the trail of the second Stone of Power, one of seven ancient stones lost
centuries ago. This stone might be embedded in the hilt of a newly discovered
sword that archeologists believe belonged to King Arthur: Excalibur.

However,
their long-standing enemy, Dr. Khalid, is following them as they travel to
Scotland to investigate an old castle. Little do they know there is another
deadly force, the Eaters of Poison, who have their own mission to complete.
Time is running out as the confluence of the planets draws closer. Can Justin
and Adam find the second Stone of Power and survive?

A plane
crash! Lost in the Mexican jungle! Will Adam, Justin, and Kim survive long
enough to find the Third Stone of Power?
With
only a young boy, Tukum, as their guide, the kids make their way through the
dense and dangerous jungle to find the lost city of stone gods, where the Stone
of Power might be located. River rafting on a crocodile-infested river and
evading predators are just part of this hazardous task.

Of
course, their old adversary Dr. Khalid is close behind as the kids press on.
But he is not the worst of their problems. This time Adam will clash with a terrible
enemy who adopts the persona of an evil Aztec god, Tezcatlipoca, and is keen to
revive the ancient tradition of human sacrifice.  Will they emerge
alive from the jungle? Will Dr. Khalid find the third Stone of Power before
they do?

Top Ten List:

1.     Travel
– I have been fortunate enough to visit many countries but there are still more
on my list.
2.     Animals
– I love animals and wish I had tons of money to donate to many of the causes I
read about. One day, I will!
3.     Movies
– I LOVE movies. Detective, thrillers, animal feel goods, historical series,
adventure, action, marvel character movies, I love it!
4.     Books
– I LOVE books, of course, and still have many of my old childhood favourites
inherited from my parents and grandparents.
5.     Music
– listening to music, mainly classical and movie themes, is very relaxing.
6.     Theatre
and ballet – would you believe it I started out studying drama at university,
went to drama school in London and mime school in Paris, came back home and ended
up in writing and publishing.
7.     Writing
– not just writing middle grade adventures though. I have an alter ego named
Arabella Sheraton who writes Regency romances and has actually written more
books than I have. Arabella is the proud author of eight books so far. Do I
have a problem wearing two hats? Not at all. I love jumping into a historical
fiction romance and having fun.
8.     Antiques
and collectibles – I have inherited so many beautiful antiques (furniture and
collectibles) but that hasn’t stopped me browsing flea markets and antique
shops to enjoy the beautiful items of yesteryear and sometimes buy.
9.     Friends/family
– getting together with good friends is something that can’t be beaten. I love
having friends/family over and making a great dinner for us to enjoy.

10.Giving
talks on child literacy – I didn’t start off as an expert on child literacy,
but after I fostered and later adopted my daughter Mabel (a disadvantaged young
African girl) I had to learn pretty quickly because she came to me just about
illiterate at age eleven. From my experiences in teaching Mabel to read, I then
was asked to address many institutions and groups on the topic. I enjoy helping
parents and teachers to get kids to love reading.

Forever With You by Jennifer LaBelle

Title: Forever With You
Series: Misfit Tattoo #1
Author: Jennifer LaBelle
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 4, 2019
Publisher: Limitless Publishing

I know what it’s like to bleed. To have so much pain you can barely breathe. My entire life got burned down in flames, and now I’m nothing.

My escape? Friends, booze, and willing women. They make me feel numb. Better yet, they keep me distracted from the memories that plague me.

When a curvy brunette walks into my tattoo shop I immediately recognize the sad look in her eyes. Pain. Regret. Grief.

But I’m drawn to her, wanting to be near her all the time. Maybe it’s because we have something in common. A broken heart.

Harlow has just about as many walls around her as I do. We’re both ruined, but despite being shattered into a million pieces, the more time we spend together the more she’s beginning to show me what hope looks like. It’s terrifying.

If I keep on pursuing her, there are only two ways this could end. We’ll either help each other mend, or we’ll destroy the last bit of humanity we have left.

What
do you do when the world’s greatest power has no conscience?

Two,
not of blood, but joined in blood,

may
conquer only as a selfless act of love.

-from
The Prophecy of the Dancers of Silence

The
illustrated dystopian science fiction epic fantasy BIRTH RIGHT TRILOGY depicts
the first battles of a brutal war between humans, cyborgs, robots, and
genetically enhanced beings. In the first book, BIRTH RIGHT: GALAK’S RISING,
you are introduced to the Valki and Galak.

At
the onset of a technological war that could destroy their race and the
technology that made them superior, the genetically enhanced Valki traveled
more than a century into the future.

In
this new civilization, Galak, a cruel cyborg obsessed with creating his own
race of superior beings, induces the remaining human feudal and native tribes
to war against one another. To limit the Valki population, births are
restricted to one per woman, unless they are twins. Galak demands that Valki
teen twins compete for a Birthright, the right to have children—or be
sterilized.

The
courage of two young Valki women to resist Galak's law pits princes, kings, and
mighty warriors against a merciless and powerful foe.

To
save humanity, the girls, named only 99 and 100, and their allies must resist
an opponent who has the field and technological advantages. Only those willing
to sacrifice everything can defeat their enemies.

The
BIRTH RIGHT TRILOGY explores the ethical implications of technology with
adventure, romance, humor, and terror.

Kent
Burles created the nineteen illustrations for GALAK’S RISING.

Excerpt

99
and 100 watch in horror from their upstairs window as two Galak warriors drag a
girl toward the red doors of the Dall Building. Neither can guess what they are
doing with her or what the young girl did to deserve arrest.

Below,
the girl kicks and screams, then faints.

The
G warriors shrug, and then pick her up and carry her inside the wooden
building.

From
their room, the girls look on, waiting for something to happen, but nothing
does. The only movement below them is the dust sweeping across the dirt road.

99
and 100 look at one another, not believing what they have seen. Then, the girls
smell the familiar scent of Lavora, a rare rose and lavender perfume, and turn
to face their grandmother, Crystal.

Crystal’s
forehead is fraught with concern. “Girls, what have you been doing?”

The
two 14-year old girls cling to Crystal. 99, the most outspoken, speaks.
“Grandma, a girl was arrested and taken inside the Dall Building. She was our
age!”

“Who
took her?” Crystal smooths the simple cotton skirt over her slim frame. She
knows before she asks, though, that it has to do with Galak. Everything evil
does. Why did Galak have to follow them here?

100
answers now. “The G Warriors. Were they kidnapping her?” Crystal pulls the
girls closer. She hasn’t felt this frightened since she left Darissa da Vinci
in 2071. “We’re not to interfere with them, dears. They work under Galak’s
orders.”

“Who
is Galak?” 99 asks as she brushes a long wisp of dark hair away from her face.
If he’s important, she ought to know.

Crystal
looks from 99 to 100, uncertain what their mother, Sila, would have her say.

Excerpt

Rushing out of the media room, I ran through the foyer and
up the stairs to Layla’s room. I knocked hard on the door and listened. There
was no sound or movement that I could hear. “Layla, open the door.” Still,
there was nothing. When I opened the door, her closet was open, and it’d been
cleaned out, along with her dresser. “Motherfucker,” I huffed. “Layla!”
The sound of a door slammed downstairs, so I took off out of
her room. How the hell could I not see her on the cameras? I ran down the
stairs and out the patio door. There were a line of trees blocking my sight of
the driveway, but I could see the top edge of one of the open garage doors. As
I drew closer, I could see her tossing her luggage in the back of a silver SUV.
She’d changed out of her green sundress from earlier into a pair of jeans and a
black T-shirt.
“Where do you think you’re going?” I called out as I stepped
away from the trees. Layla jerked around, eyes blazing like fire as she grabbed
the gun at her waistband and pointed it straight at me. I stopped and held up
my hands. “Whoa. What the hell are you doing?”
“I’m leaving. And if you try to stop me, I’ll blow off your
balls.”
Glancing down at her gun, I couldn’t help but notice how
perfect her stance was. She looked like she knew what she was doing. “I don’t
doubt it,” I replied cautiously. “Where’d you get the gun?”
Her eyes narrowed, but she kept the gun pointed at me. “My
uncle.”
Still holding my hands in the air, I slowly took a step
forward. “Did he teach you how to shoot as well?”
The muscles in her jaw tightened. “Yes. Believe it or not,
I’m not the helpless princess everyone thinks I am.”
“I never said you were, Layla.” I nodded at the video camera
just above the garage door. “How did you get out here without me seeing you?”
She lifted her chin, her lips tilting up in an evil grin.
“You’re not the only one who knows how to manipulate a camera. How else was I
supposed to sneak out as a teenager?”
Now I was impressed. “Guess we all have our secrets. Can
anyone see us right now?”
She shook her head. “No.” I took another step closer,
and her body tensed. “Dammit, Bryce, don’t test me. I already know my father
told you to stop me. No matter what he says or what you do, I am going to get
out of here.”
“And go where?” I asked. “To the city to find out the
answers?”
“If that’s what it takes. I’m not returning until he tells
me the truth.”
There was nothing but sheer determination in her eyes. The
woman was so goddamned stubborn she’d get herself killed in the process. We
were only about six feet apart, with the gun still pointed at my chest. There
was only one thing left to do. I wasn’t about to underestimate her.
“What if I told you what you want to know?” I said, hoping
she could see the truth in my eyes.
Her lips pursed. “Why should I believe you?”
“Because you said it yourself—you’re not going to stop until
you find out the answers. This is the only way to keep you safe.” It was also
the way to test her. I had to know how far her loyalty went with her father. It
might be what I had to do to finish my mission. Anthony would surely try to
come after me, but he’d have a hell of a time trying to find me.
