What You Believe, Can Destroy You!

William and Sydney have sacrificed everything to fortify their love, so much so that William dares to brave the depths of space to find a cure for their deadly Supernova bond, leaving both her and Earth vulnerable to Torrian Alliance attack.

But with a full scale rebellion in play on Fabricius, the reality of Sydney’s execution from Torrian hands is diminished, only eclipsed by the certainty of a more threats – The Third Faction and The Dagmas Clan – lead by Dominic and his insurgent recruits. With overwhelming odds mounting against them, William makes a desperate attempt to find the last of the endangered Star-children only to be captured by a new menace, where he is forced to compete in the dreaded Gauntlet of sport. Allies surge to free Fabricius, seeking alliances across the galaxy while Sydney tries to keep her identity hidden and trains to master the third phase of her Star-child evolution: Solstice.

With Sarah’s mysterious return home with clues to unlock the future, Noella’s training and Bill’s symbiotic development hope is restored, but will it be enough to unite the galaxy and destroy evil for once and for all?

CHAPTER THREE
Sydney and Noella walked hand in hand along the small winding path leading to the top the Mount Dothan. The dusking sky painted a sheet of orange and red light across the woodsy terrain around them, giving the impression of wading through a sea of fire. Amid the grim moment of the day and the burning sensation rising in Sydney’s throat, the tone seemed fitting. Silence accompanied them, and it wasn’t until the pair hit the peak that Sydney finally broke the ice. “So what do your people call this ceremony?” she asked.
“The time of the harvest. It’s the moment when a fallen soldier is said to join the being of the sky. I think humans refer to it as God,” Noella said, her tone as flat as the expression on her face.
“Sounds cool,” she replied as she surveyed the surroundings; a patch of flatland that housed a family of hawks who watched cautiously from above in a lone cedar tree. From here, every inch of Madisonburg could be observed without the need of telescope or binoculars. A bed of dandelions and weeping willows greeted them in the center of the field.
“This way. I’ll show you where I buried his body,” Noella said.
She could see that Noella was visibly shaken, slowly unravelling before her eyes. Her hands trembled as her eyes began to redden. She wondered how long it’d take, amazed at how Noella had not said a word since Arrion’s death a few weeks ago, only morning him in silence, which she explained was customary on Fabricius. She had done the deed all by herself, refusing to allow Sydney to assist in his burial. From scouting the plot of land to digging the hole, Noella insisted that it was protocol on her planet for a lone fellow soldier to be assigned the arduous task of preparation. Seeing as though William had departed soon after, there was no better candidate left for the job.
She took Noella by the hand and drew her close, giving her the most delicate and firm hug she could muster. Noella stood motionless, sinking into her friend’s embrace. After a few seconds, she released her, unable to make eye contact. “I’m here for you,” she murmured.
“Thanks, Syd,” Noella replied, her voice ragged.
She finally looked up at her and gave a nod, following Noella’s lead over to the place where Arrion’s body lay. Surprisingly, the disturbed clay seemed more settled than she expected, dried from the sun and already showing signs of life as Bermuda grass had slowly began to encroach along the edges. A makeshift tombstone had been erected, fashioned from metallic fuselage scraps of the Daedallus, with only Arrrion’s name and handle tatted along the surface, minus dates to hide his identity to hikers in hopes that most consider it a memorial to a lost pet if they stumbled upon it.
Noella knelt next to the grave, slid her backpack from her shoulders and began to open it. Searching her bag, she retrieved a small oval-shaped disk and a satchel filled with purple powder. “These are crushed lilacs pedals. We must first prepare the path for Arrion’s ascension by sending tribute to the sky.” She stood and sprinkled a few handfuls over the grave until a thin layer had materialized before them. “On our planet we usually use the oil of a Tonosia Tree, which is a lot thicker substance and is used for sterilization. Sarah thought it’d be a good idea to use lilacs as a substitute because it was a similar color.”
“It’s beautiful,” she replied.
“I will now begin the ceremony.” Noella placed the disc in the center of the burial site, depressed a red button on the top and came to her side. The two joined hands as the disc began to spin and dig into the hardened clay. Noella pointed a hydrogen phaser at the site and fired a stream of fire upon it that scorched the sheet of crushed pedals. The disc disappeared beneath the flames and Noella broke out into song, in an alien dialect that Sydney could not understand. It was less about the words and more the moment that choked at her, forcing the tears to flow freely down her face. She squeezed Noella’s hand as she crooned on. By the time Noella had finished, a small fissure had opened in the place where the disc had entered and a cloud of embers swirled into the air; a mix of red, orange and yellow. It lifted high into the sky and faded into the clouds.
Noella dropped to her knees in a whimper. “It is finished.”
Sydney came beside her and held her close. “It was… beautiful.”
The two sat in silence with only sobs to drown out the sounds of the forest.

release day blitz for The Billionaire Shifter’s Second Chance by Diana Seere

The Billionaire Shifter’s Second Chance
Diana Seere
Publication date: December 5th 2016
Genres: Adult, Paranormal

A wildland firefighter — and mountain lion shifter — Edward is the youngest of the Stanton siblings, and hasn’t touched a woman in a decade, not since his late fiancĂ©e was killed in a violent tragedy.

But when he meets the sweet, adorable Molly Sloan, a friend of his new sister-in-law, Lilah… his determination to remain celibate begins to unravel.

Something about Molly is irresistible. Something about her makes him forget the past… and hear the Beat. But Edward will have to fight for her — forces are gathering to use her in ways that might separate them forever.

The Billionaire Shifter’s Second Chance is the third book in the Billionaire Shifters Club series by Diana Seere, the paranormal pen name for two New York Times and USA Today bestselling romantic comedy authors. This book is a standalone *within* a series.

* * *

Welcome to the most exclusive club in the world. The Novo Club. Novo is Latin for “change.” Our members prefer the word “shift” though.

It’s the hottest club in town.

The price of membership is your heart and your secrecy.

All you need to do to join is to be loved beyond your wildest imagination by someone powerful with an…alpha side so primal it’s in their blood.

Are you ready?

Good. Then let’s begin.

The Billionaire Shifters Club is a new series featuring the five Stanton siblings, four brothers and one sister who are all part of an ancient shifter family living in modern America. The subterranean club-within-a-club beneath the streets of Boston, Massachusetts holds secrets only the Stantons and their fellow shifters know.

EXCERPT:

“Why are you so twitchy?” Sophia asked.

The art exhibit for their brother’s paintings was quite lovely, but Edward Stanton was beginning to deeply regret being a supportive sibling. Leaving his home in Montana, where the air smelled like freedom and people didn’t glare – because there were so few actual people – and coming to this festering hellhole called Boston gave him good reason to twitch.

His sister’s words made him groan inwardly, though. If he told her the truth, she would belittle him. If he lied, she would smell it on him.

Of course she would. She was a bear shifter, with a nose most vintners would kill to possess. Sophia could smell emotions. She could sniff out subterfuge and intrigue, sex and anger. He was certain she could smell lottery ticket winners, if she tried.

Not that a billionaire heiress would need such a skill.

Edward steeled himself, wishing he could hide scent the way he had trained himself to hide emotion. Even shifters had limits, sadly.

“I’m tired. The jet seats weren’t comfortable,” he lied. A powerful hum from some sort of heating and cooling system kicked in, making his back teeth rattle. How much longer must he stay to be polite? The city was full of too many unexpected vibrations and jolts, sounds like jeers and mockery. His head began to throb, a steady beat taking over.

Sophia rolled her eyes and took a small pastry from a tray as a server passed by, stuffing it in her mouth. “You are the worst liar ever. Didn’t you learn a thing from Derry? You would never guess you’re brothers.”

Half brothers, he thought. Of the five Stanton children, Edward was the only one without a full sibling. He was also the only mountain lion shifter. He needed to roam. Desired space.

Craved land.

Downtown Boston, at an art gallery packed into a gentrified district where people lived in apartments the size of thumbnails, was the absolute opposite of what he wanted right now.

But they were here to support Derry in his art, and by God, he would fake his way through this.

Even if Derry just ditched them to reunite with his human mate, the limo speeding them off to Derry’s loft, leaving his cheerleading squad stuck in this gallery, eating overcooked rumaki and pretending to enjoy the other exhibits.

“I know you hate the city,” Sophia said, her voice dropping into a compassionate whisper. “But that was years ago, a random tragedy. We can help you. It’s sweet of you to come here for Derry.”

Edward’s body went cold. He didn’t want to talk about the past. And he certainly did not want to talk about the last time he was in Boston.

“Super sweet!” Molly, his sister-in-law’s friend, approached him and Sophia, her bright blue eyes overly friendly, cheeks flushed with excitement or wine. Or both.

His body responded to her presence, skin heating up, muscles expanding as blood pumped with a ferocious, almost-unfair speed designed to make him ready for…

For something he’d given up a decade ago.

Book Description:

For Astrid Janvier, image is everything…

Astrid is a world-renowned model, as famous for her strut as her startling green eyes. She’s modeled for the biggest names in the fashion world, and is regularly invited to parties in New York, London, and Paris. Thanks to a designer label addiction, she’s also broke, and takes a job as a cocktail waitress just to make rent. When her best friend Britt asks her to be her maid of honor at her upcoming wedding, their first task is to decide the menu.

Donnie Coehlo is a young, up-and-coming chef with a dinner menu to plan…

Donato—Donnie for short—is the head chef at Thirty-Nine and Twelve, a seafood bistro on the Connecticut shore. It’s a great accomplishment given his youthful age, but Donnie doesn’t brag. He just wants to find the right girl, settle down, and have a bunch of kids. When Astrid arrives at his restaurant, Donnie hopes she is the one. But would a high-priced model like Astrid be interested in a regular guy like him?

As Astrid’s life crumbles around her, and Donnie makes a terrible choice, Astrid learns the two of them are irrevocably tied together.

Will their connection be enough for Astrid to leave her high-fashion life behind,
and accept what Donnie has to offer?

Or will she chase her dreams as a model, leaving Donnie as part of her past?

What better time
than the holiday season to be with the ones you love? In Changing Scenes,
circumstances force Astrid and Donnie to spend their first Christmas apart.
This is a much bigger deal for Donnie than it is for Astrid; while she sees
holidays as something to endure, he enjoys going back to his grandmother’s
house and spending a day or two cooking up a feast for his family.

In order to show
Astrid just how much he is going to miss her, Donnie plans a special breakfast
for Astrid—but this breakfast doesn’t involve bacon and eggs. Instead of
traditional breakfast foods, he makes a few different chocolate pastries for
Astrid, and she gets to choose between the sinful desserts. Does that make
Donnie the dessert to the dessert? I guess it does.

In the spirit of
Donnie’s romantic breakfast of desserts, here’s a recipe for one of the most
sinful chocolate cakes you’ll ever encounter. Below that breakfast scene
itself.

Happy
reading—and baking!

Ingredients

butter and flour
for coating and dusting the cake pan

3 cups
all-purpose flour

3 cups
granulated sugar

1½ cups
unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tablespoon
baking soda

1½ teaspoons
baking powder

1½ teaspoons
salt

4 large eggs

1½ cups
buttermilk

1½ cups warm
water

½ cup vegetable
oil

2 teaspoons
vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat oven to
350 degrees.

Butter three
9-inch cake rounds. Dust with flour and tap out the excess. (see cooking lesson
below)

Mix together
flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a stand mixer
using a low speed until combined.

Add eggs,
buttermilk, warm water, oil, and vanilla. Beat on a medium speed until smooth.
This should take just a couple of minutes.

Divide batter
among the three pans. I found that it took just over 3 cups of the batter to
divide it evenly.

Bake for 30-35
minutes until the cake meets the toothpick test (stick a toothpick in and it
comes out clean).

Cool on wire
racks for 15 minutes and then turn out the cakes onto the racks and allow to
cool completely.

Frost with your
favorite frosting and enjoy!

Excerpt from Changing Scenes: Donnie makes Astrid a
special breakfast

After the
session wrapped, I went home, showered, and took a nice, long nap. When I woke
I ate a bowl of cereal, then I got dressed in my warmest socks, leggings, and
sweater while I waited for Donnie to pick me up. My man was right on time and
came bearing hot coffee, and we did our usual circuit of the market.
“These fish get
heavier every week,” I said when we were loading up. “And I think Trevor put
rocks in those sacks instead of clams.”
“I hope they’re
not clams,” Donnie said. “I paid for mussels.”
I shook my head,
unsuccessfully stifling my latest round of laughter; my chef thought he was a
comedian. “I’m ready to head out if you are.”
“You know it,
babe.”
We hopped into
the fishmobile and left the market. I watched the market get smaller and
smaller in the rearview mirror, wondering how big of a catastrophe would be
needed for Donnie to cancel Christmas and hang out with me instead. The
restaurant burning down? No, since he’s not an owner he’d probably go back to
his family and wait for word from his boss. Massive snowstorm? No again, since
he’s a New Englander; they laugh at snow. Me breaking a leg? Hmm, now that
could work. Donnie would have to stay in my apartment with me, taking care of
me, keeping me company… Of course, I would have that broken leg to deal with…
“Babe?”
“What?” I asked,
blinking myself back to reality.
“You’re a
dreamer, you know that?”
I looked down.
“I was just thinking.”
“Hey.” I glanced
up, saw his smile. “Dreams are good.”
I returned his
smile, then I realized we were headed toward my apartment instead of the diner.
“We’re not going to breakfast?”
“I thought we’d
do something special.”
“What special
thing?” I pressed.
“I’ll make
breakfast at your place.”
I flopped back
in my seat, totally speechless. Just when I thought Donnie couldn’t be any more
perfect, he goes and one-ups himself. Then I remembered that all this cooking
would be taking place in my kitchen, and my happiness turned to horror.
“I don’t have a
lot of food at home,” I babbled. “I haven’t had time to shop, and I don’t own
things like spatulas and cooking spray.”
“I brought
everything we’ll need.”
“You did?”
“’Course I did.
When I was in your place before I checked out your kitchen.” He gave me a look,
and added, “The stove didn’t look like it’d been used this year.”
“I’m not a
cooker like you.”
“Babe, there was
dust on the burners.”
I crossed my
arms and fidgeted in my seat. “What can I say, housekeeping hadn’t come by.”
“It sure
hadn’t.”
We reached my
building, and I directed Donnie toward my parking space. Once that was complete
he handed me a cooler, then he grabbed a second bag and we headed toward the
elevator.
“Will the fish
be all right?” I asked.
“They’ll be fine
for a few hours,” he said. “It’s cold, even in here, and they’re packed in tons
of ice.”
When we entered
my apartment Donnie went straight to the kitchen. “What do you want me to do?”
I asked.
“What do you
usually do after I drop you off?”
“Change and go
to bed.”
“Go change,
then.”
I blinked. “I
thought if I didn’t help, I didn’t get to eat.”
He kissed the
corner of my mouth. “Grandma’s rules, not mine. Don’t worry, I got this.”
I did as
ordered, and shed my fish market gear. Since I wasn’t going to see Donnie for a
while I decided to dress sexy, and put on a blue satin spaghetti strapped
nightie and matching robe. The smell of coffee lured me back to the kitchen,
and I saw little pastries set up on the counter.
“What’s all
this?” I asked. “No bacon and eggs?”
“Sweets for a
sweet lady,” he replied. The coffeemaker beeped, so Donnie poured a cupful and
handed it to me. “Gonna try one?”
“Sure.” I
selected a tiny chocolate confection, then I took it and my coffee to the
couch. Donnie sat beside me a moment later. “What brought this on?”
“I’m going to
miss you, that’s what,” he said. “Not gonna lie, I was single for a long time
before we met. Been a long time since I found anyone I wanted to spend time
with…” Donnie shook his head. “And now, I won’t even be with you over the
holidays.”
“It’s not like
you’ll be gone forever,” I said, ignoring the pang in my heart. “If it’s any
consolation, I’ll be miserable with my family.”
Donnie made a
face. “I’d be miserable too, if they dragged me to some restaurant on
Christmas.”
“Yeah,
restaurants are terrible,” I said. “And the chefs, especially the head chefs,
now they are the worst.”
“Hey, take that
back.”
“Nope.”
Donnie grabbed
my coffee and pastry from my hands and set them on the table, then he grabbed
my waist. “Take it back,” he insisted, his hand sliding up my spine toward my
neck.
“Make me.”
