“In this edgy first in a new cozy series from Costa, Val Cameron, a senior editor at a New York publishing company, travels to the tiny town of Wendaban, Ontario…A strong plot and engaging characters make for a well-crafted mystery, and Val’s humorous attempts to cope with the wilderness do much to lighten the tension. The core of the story is Val’s discovery of her own self-worth.” – Publishers Weekly (on Practical Sins for Cold Climates)

“If you want to read a beautifully written story with a twisting and turning plot, this book is for you. Five stars out of five.” – Examiner.com (on Practical Sins for Cold Climates)

ISBN: 978-1-48358-240-5

Book Description:

Cara and Sam are destined for each other, we know it the first time we meet them, and everyone else seems to know it as well. But life constantly interrupts and prevents them from taking the next step.
It doesn’t help at all that Cara is in a codependent platonic relationship with Theo. Cara is forever the damsel in distress and Theo is the enabler who thrives on being needed all the time. When Sam enters the scene, it disrupts the equation between the two. Theo and Sam have a chequered history behind them and share a love-hate relationship; hate being the dormant emotion.

But destiny is a funny thing, and by the time fate is done with these characters their lives will never be the same again.

Excerpt from Chapter 2

“By the time I get back to dancing with Dean, I feel something, someone, watching me. The feeling I felt before my speech is stronger now. There’s something consuming my surroundings—an invisible, sweltering blanket over me. As soon as I have the chance, I look around and try to find the source of this feeling—the burning eyes I can’t see, yet, but I sense are focused on me.

I casually scan the room between dips and twirls.

My breath catches. There they are—the eyes I’ve been searching for. A man, a gorgeous man, in a perfectly tailored suit is staring at me. It’s no mistake. Now that I see him, I know his eyes are the source of this feeling I’ve been having.

There are worse people to have stare at you. He might be a little older, but he’s very attractive. He wears his dark brown hair slicked and styled up and back. It looks soft enough to run my fingers through and short enough to create a little edge to it. His blackish gray suit blends in with his olive, tan skin. Every part of him is dark and smoky, except his eyes. His turquoise-blue eyes are so bright; they’re like headlights shining at me. A lighthouse warning me not to come too close or my boat will crash. ”

About the Author:

Erin Lockwood grew up in Castro Valley, California and attended the University of Oregon, where she graduated in 2003 with a degree in journalism. From there she moved to Denver and spent the next seven years searching for the love of her life and building the family of her dreams.

It wasn’t long until, with children starting preschool and more time on her hands, Erin refocused on her career, beginning with a successful entry into the world of residential real estate as a Realtor. Free time was spent reading book after book (and binge-watching the subsequent films) in the New Adult genre. Feeling hopelessly in love with her husband, she wrote him a short story leading up to their fifth wedding anniversary. That’s when she discovered her tireless passion to share her experience of falling in love through fictional characters. That story evolved into the first novel in the Angles trilogy.

Erin still lives in Denver, Colorado with her husband, Phil, and their three children.

Easy@Home Digital Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor

Really nice and very easy to use blood pressure monitor. The monitor runs on 4 AA batteries which are included. The monitor and cuff come in a nice zippered soft sided case. To use just put the cuff around the upper arm turn it to where the spot on the cuff says ART towards the middle of the top of the elbow, push the button, set still and it does everything else for you. The screen is very easy to read. It is back lit and has large numbers. The monitor can also be programmed for 2 people and does keep a log of your numbers. This comes with a very nice easy to read and use instruction manual.

I received this free but am not required to write a review, but  I decided I should let people know about my experience with it.

AIWOTOWOW 2 Pin Plug Electric Rechargeable Bug Zapper

This is one of the coolest hand held bugger zappers I have seen. I have one that runs on batteries. I like this one so much better. This one is rechargeable. At the bottom of the handle is the plug in. The prongs fold in so they are not in the way when you are using the fly swat style zapper. Folding in also helps protect the prongs. This also has a really bright flashlight. on the handle is the control to turn the zapping power off and on as well as the light.  You do have to be careful with this bug zapper and keep it out of reach of children. The metal wires on the head do shock. It effectively kills flying bugs with a simple zap when they touch the screen. It can shock you too if you touch it.

I live in Florida and we have flying bugs year round. This is a great item when I want to set in the yard. It is light weight. It is shaped like a tennis racket. It is made of plastic with wire on the head.

AIWOTOWOW LED Bug Zapper Mosquito Killer lamp indoor outdoor

Really nice bug zapper lamp. We live in Florida and there are tons of flying bugs, and a lot of them actually bite. Having a bug light is pretty much a have to have item. We have lots of family get togethers and my house and the bugs can really put a damper on our fun. This light helps by pulling the bugs to it and killing them. I like the lamp sets on a table or your could hook  wire or string to the outer cage to hang the light. It has wires wrapped around it that will shock, so even though it is a tight cage I would not let it be around small children without supervision. This lamp also has a feature to allow you to change the bulb in it. So could be used for years to come.

I received this free but am not required to write a review, but  I decided I should let people know about my experience with it.

Virtual Book Tour: The Devil's Flood by Pear R. Meaker

THE DEVIL'S FLOOD
by Pearl R. Meaker

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Cozy Mystery
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Can a house vanish without a trace? What is the "super booze" that's available at clandestine drinking parties in Golden County? When mummified bodies show up at an archeological dig and a young man gets shot in a duel at a party, can Emory and Madison find the answers in the midst of a flood year?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Two:
“Okay.” Kate said, pulling her phone out of a pocket as Jairus and the crew gathered around me where I stood watching the rescue team go in after my husband. “Here’s a shot of Dr. Crawford.” She held the phone in front of me. “He’s still conscious and managed a little wave, but I’m glad the rescue team is heading in.”
I glanced at the photo. Jebbin lay in a pool of light on what looked like a pile of bedding heaped on a rough wooden floor. His glasses had fallen off. He never looks quite right without them, and
I could tell he was hurting. Probably feeling a bit nauseous as well. In spite of it all he wore a wan grin and had lifted a hand in greeting.
Kate swiped the screen.
In the sharp glare of her phone’s flash a mummified man sat on the floor, his back against a wall. There was a dark stain spilling down his chest from a hole near where his heart would be.
“There’s one part of the company Dr. Crawford mentioned he had.”
She swiped again. “Here’s the other.”
This mummy lay on its back. The flash showed a stain that flowed from his chest and down his side to form a hardened puddle on the floor.
“Which one’s my Grandpa?” Melva gasped.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Slightly quirky, always creative, Pearl R. Meaker has been an artist, singer and craftsperson her whole life. Although she's always had stories in her head, they didn't come out to play with others until the advent of home computers with their ease of making corrections and moving bits around.
After several years of writing fanfiction in the world of Tolkien's Middle-Earth, she took a couple of writing courses and dove into writing original works of fiction, and The Emory Crawford Mysteries were born.
When not playing with story ideas you can find Pearl playing with yarn either knitting or crocheting, doing other arts and crafts, bird watching and photographing nature, playing bluegrass fiddle (her husband plays banjo) or relaxing with her hubby on the sofa watching mystery shows on Netflix.
Oh - and reading all sorts of books, but especially cozy and other types of mysteries!
The books in The Emory Crawford Mysteries Series are reminiscent of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple mysteries, which is why Pearl has chosen to characterize her stories as "murder genteel."
Interview with Pear R. Meaker
Where do you get inspiration for your stories?
All sorts of places. My first two books, The Devil’s Music and The Devil’s Hook, we’re both inspired by a song – “Didn’t Leave Nobody But The Baby” from “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?” The movie version is eerie, with a musical saw playing in the background.
My new book, The Devil’s Flood was inspired by my husband suggesting I write a story that involved a flood in the spring of 2015 because we were having a flood year that year.
How did you do research for your book?
I talked to local people about flood years that they remembered. I went to the library and found out about the history of flooding in this area, about the watershed in the surrounding part of the state and how that related to the creeks in our area.
One man told me how the house he grew up in and all their farm buildings had been where the lake west of our town is now. The land was sold for gravel quarrying. The idea of a house having been somewhere where there was now a lake became part of the story too.
Do you have another profession besides writing?
I’m a homemaker, which should be considered a career even though you don’t get paid for it. It’s a full time job.
If you could go back in time, where would you go?
My own childhood. I had a fairly pleasant one and the freedom of being a child is something that would be nice to revisit.
What is your next project?
My fourth book isn’t titled yet but is set at a music festival and involves a southern style rock band that’s led by Emory’s older brother. I’m going to be getting busy on it when all the business of The Devil’s Flood’s launch is over.
