Interview with Kailee Reese Samuels

1. What is your favorite part of this book and why?
My favorite scene from Tea for Two is when Sal and Bertie decide to make love. I think it is such a pivotal point for Sal as a character. He really grows in T42 to becoming closer to the character in Juliet. It’s an interesting dynamic and one that I have greatly enjoyed both as a writer and a reader.

2. If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?
Oh gosh. That is tough. Sal and we’d spend the day between the sheets? Haha…no. I adore Kaci and feel most connected to her. Kaci has this eccentric don’t care attitude and she just does her own thing. We would spend the day gossiping and brushing horses. It would be a good day!

3. If you could have been the author of any book ever written, which book would you choose?
I am so happy being me, I really can’t imagine writing anything other than what I have crafted.

4. Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
Haha! All of my characters are inspired by elements of real life people. Sometimes all it takes is one chance meeting–-a face, a story, or even a place—which leads to whole dialogue building in my head that forms the basis of a book. I work on books for years in my head before I ever take pen to paper. Then they go through the brainstorming in a special journal I have and I start mapping the progression of a story.

5. What made you want to become a writer?
I don’t know anything else. As soon as I could write, I started making up poems. Writing for me is like breathing, I could not exist without it. And why would I want to? When you can escape into the words, sinking into the story and finding full immersion—it’s one of the best places ever. You can become a wizard, a vampire, or even a pink-haired Pixie in love with an Italian boy.

Thank you for the interview!!!

  1. The cover looks so innocent, with it's big pink gerbera, but, knowing Kailee's work, the contents will be about as far from innocent as it's legal to get!
