About
the Author

The
author of over thirty romance novels, Emily Mims combined her writing career
with a career in public education until leaving the classroom to write full
time. The mother of two sons, she and her husband split their time between
central Texas, eastern Tennessee, and Georgia visiting their kids and
grandchildren. For relaxation, Emily plays the piano, organ, dulcimer, and
ukulele for two different performing groups, and even sings a little. She says,
“I love to write romances because I believe in them. Romance happened to me and
it can happen to any woman—if she’ll just let it.”

Suddenly outside on the street, she stood facing in the direction of the Cambodian take-out, her entire nervous system tingling and parts shaking as if with Parkinson’s due to the abrupt teleportation against her will. The night fell black and splattered with garish light. She looked up to see the Wall Street corpse directly above her, and she swore he was staring down with an oafish mocking expression as if he knew something she did not. Then the ground quaked, and like balloons filled with molten glass, every window in her apartment building exploded. The shrieks of burning people next. How many she did not know, but she knew she must save them.

Before Piper could act, a whip of turbulent energy uncoiled like a sun flare from her living room window eight stories above. She observed the Wall Street corpse nearby disintegrate into a memory of burning sparks. She immediately recognized the nature of the force—a Tao magical wavelength strong as a thunderstorm yet contained, compressed to a small vortex, and potent enough to kidnap half of Brooklyn.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Warwick Gleeson is a dedicated writer of screenplays, short stories, novels, and poetry. He has lived in both LA and NYC and worked many different jobs in his life, everything from roofer to waiter to small business owner to government analyst. He was the major writer, creator, and senior story editor for another project published by Del Sol Press called "War of the World Makers" that debuted in 2017. The novel has since won four national novel awards (two first place and two place) for SFF. Warwick is a big fan of great SFF television writing, like the kind you find in Emerald City, Gotham, The Expanse, and Umbrella Academy. He now lives in Tuscon, AZ, with a fat lazy cat and his most wonderful wife who is also a writer.

A loose confederation that drew from various groups and cliques. It formed and melted depending on pot availability.

What are you passionate about these days?

Jeezus guys! Writing these novels!!!

If you had to do your journey to getting published all over again, what would you do differently?

Replace my ignorance and hubris with productive qualities and accept that I needed to learn.

Ebook or print? And why?

I don’t dichotomize in this way. They both have advantages. I don’t choose one over the other. They should both be available. Ebook is great for online marketing and reading, but I like having a print in my hand.

What is your favorite scene in this book?

The prolonged and rapturous sex scene on the methane planet, followed very closely by the plummeting of God Soldier divisions into the Greater Los Angeles area.

School and graduated Cum Laude from Waynesburg College with a
Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts. Currently lives in Sacramento,

have always been her passion. She started reading at an early age and
progressed to full-length books by age nine. The first supernatural

He had to run to catch up with her in the hallway. “Seri, hold up,” he shouted, as she rushed to the elevator and jammed the button. “We have to look like a couple, if anyone’s watching.”

“Fine, we’re a couple having an argument,” she said, pushing past him into the elevator and crossing her arms.

He laughed. “Seriously, we have to find a way to get along,” he said. “And to that end, I should apologize. Earlier, I acted—”

“Like an asshole?”

He smiled. “Exactly. And I’m sorry. It was unprofessional and inappropriate.”

“. . . and you’re worried that I’m gonna file a report with your supervisor?”

“No, I’m worried that I fucked up our working relationship.”

“I didn’t realize we had a working relationship.”

“Well, we do now. I hope we can at least be civil.”

“I’ll be civil on Saturday night,” she said as they arrived in the lobby.

He chased after her, waving to Pete before he cut her off to push open the door for her. She brushed past him and started down the block at a brisk pace. He trotted alongside her and finally managed to grab her hand.

She stopped to look at him. “Why are you doing this?”

“I told you,” he whispered, squeezing her hand too tightly when she tried to pull away. Her petulant attitude was risking his life as much as hers. “We have to look like a couple. For your safety, if nothing else.”

She nodded and stopped struggling against his hand. “Fine. But do we have to talk?”

“No,” he relented.

They walked along in silence for a couple of blocks. He could feel the tension buzzing off of her, like static electricity.

Just a few hours ago, she’d been ready to fuck him.

Now she despised him. It wasn’t exactly a feeling he was comfortable with.

And that in itself annoyed him. He was doing his job. There was no reason to feel guilty.

“You need to be able to trust me,” he finally said, to which she snorted. “Okay, I get it—I have no right to expect that,” he sighed. “But whatever you think of me, I’m good at my job. I really am a nice guy, you’ll see. I swear I’ll never let anything, you know, happen to you. You have my word, not that it means much to you.”

She looked at him closely as they stopped in front of her building. “Trust is not my strong suit. Don’t ever lie to me again, Boy Scout.”

“I won’t. Promise. And I quit after Cub Scouts.”

That worked. He could tell she was trying not to laugh when he leaned in, putting his lips against her ear. “Now let’s pretend we made up, shall we, sweetheart?”

He put his hand on her jawline, annoyed when it trembled slightly, beyond his control. He touched his lips to hers, gently, teasing. She sighed, almost like she was annoyed, but opened her mouth and leaned into the kiss. She even gripped his T-shirt. He smiled against her as his tongue met hers.

One hand slid down to her ass and she arched into him for a second, pressing her whole body against his . . . and bit down hard on his bottom lip. He winced, tightening his hand on her hair until she stifled a grimace of pain.

He let go and stepped back, smiling. She smiled back.

“You’re not forgiven,” she whispered, then turned and trotted up the steps, disappearing into the door without looking back. He braced his hand against the stoop railing, trying to catch his breath.

He was in trouble.
