As a forty-one-year-old mother of three boys, working two jobs, Marya Berger doesn’t have the time or energy to consider a relationship. But when the disappearance of a young boy strikes a little too close to home, and a younger man she’s tried to ignore offers his help, she doesn’t stand in the way.
Single father, Dylan Barnes, the junior member of the La Plata County FBI team at thirty-three, has his focus firmly on his job and his son, Max. He’s certainly not looking to complicate his life, when he finds himself at his son’s soccer game, sitting beside the spirited brunette he can’t get out of his mind. Fate, however, appears to have different plans.
When an unspeakable crime draws the attention of the FBI, Dylan finds himself torn between his job and his instinctive need to protect Marya and her boys.

Nicole Grotepas
Publication date: June 20th 2019
Genres: Adult, Dystopian

Sometimes a hero has to lose everything to discover what matters most.

Still trapped in the dangerous heart of the Kirkwood Broadcasting empire, Ramone works to meet his captor’s demands: create a device to block the feeds.

But . . . aren’t they in control of the feeds? And how will they use such a tool?

Though it’s against everything he believes in, Ramone is prepared to give Kirkwood the tool they want in exchange for what he wants—a guarantee that his family will be safe.

But the way forward isn’t easy.

Allegiances will be questioned. Traitors will continue to rise and fall. Maybe there’s a way out without compromising the ideals he sacrificed once, years ago. He only has to trust the turncoat who offers him an alternative.

But as the corporation prepares to covertly unleash its massive army of surveillance cameras upon the rest of the world, Ramone can see that there really is only one option: do not give them what they want.

He only has everything to lose if he screws up.

For fans of surveillance dystopian works such as 1984, We, and revolutionary TV series like The Prisoner and Black Mirror. Can you survive the feeds?

EXCERPT:

Isaac

Tasha pulled away, a grin spreading across her face. “You kiss like a devil.”

Isaac stayed in his role. “The only way I know how.”

“Well, your mama didn’t teach you to kiss like that.”

“No, obviously,” Isaac said, lapsing into his casual, real nature. Tasha walked to where she’d been standing in the gazebo, and gazed out at the valley.

“It’s beautiful up here,” she said with a sigh. “I could get used to this.”

“It wouldn’t be hard, though. Would it?” Isaac asked, raising an eyebrow. Having amazing things—the shit you wanted, beauty, wealth, posh possessions—of course that was easy. Being stuck in the gutter for the duration of what some might call ‘a life,’ now that was hard.

She looked at him, half her face in shadows, the other half looking at him intently beneath the soft light of the strand bulbs. “You’re right. I can see why you’re here.”

“Especially considering,” he said, still leaning on one arm balanced against the top of the banister.

“Considering what?”

He shrugged.

She looked thoughtful before asking, “Where would you be if you could be anywhere, no boundaries, no exclusions, money is not an issue?”

“Paris. Or the west coast like San Francisco or Santa Monica.” He looked away from her and thought about what he’d said. That was the goal. Getting to the top of Sweet Life. Being showered with gifts, treated like a celebrity, offered advertising deals, recognized as a creative genius whose presence brought in viewers. He thought of his fans and wondered what they’d be saying right now about what he was doing. “Isaac! You’re selling out!” “Isaac, stay true to yourself!” “Isaac, no!” Of course, there’d be some who’d say, “You got this!”

“Paris is nice. There’s a vibrancy in the air and a sense of timelessness. The past and present colliding in this indescribable connection like all things are one. You know?”

He nodded, wondering if she sincerely believed that he had been to Paris. Or anywhere like that. Did she know him? Know of his limited background and what he was trying to achieve? Or was he nameless for her? A placeholder? An object to be exploited?

He was obviously that, something to exploit. Otherwise how could she . . . how would anyone be OK with that?

Dwelling on it was pointless. He knew what he had to do and he was doing it. And if she thought she’d pull him deeper into some kind of weird relationship, she was wrong.

Denya’s excited to attend the Healing Hands Academy. It’s her chance to become a handmaiden, help others, and live a life of adventure.

But studying at the Academy isn’t everything she’d
hoped. The headmistress and many of the students still look down on human
handmaidens. It seems as quickly as she makes friends, she has to say goodbye.
And just as she starts gaining acceptance, she puts the other students in
danger.

Is Denya’s determination enough to see her through,

Top Ten List:

1) J.S. Jaeger is a pen name for husband and wife
team Jerry and Stephanie Jaeger.
2) Jerry is the creative mind behind the world of
Zndaria. He puts the story on paper, and then Stephanie reworks it.
3) Our children (ages 9 - 21) play a big part in our
writing process. The personalities of several characters are patterned after
our children. Our older children are also part of our editing and sales team.
4) Our illustrator has worked on lots of shows for
Disney, including Mary Poppins Returns.
5) Jerry is an attorney. Stephanie is an accountant.
We hadn't considered writing books until Jerry began envisioning the world of
Zndaria.
6) Jerry first wanted to call their world Andaria. A
quick internet search showed that name was already overused. We went through
the alphabet for something that rhymed with Andaria and sounded cool. We got
all the way to Z before finding our winner.
7) The first page of each of our chapters has about
8 lines. We challenge people to read the first page of our books to see if they
want to keep reading. Almost everyone turns the page.
8) We met the narrator for our audiobook, RJ Walker,
when he stopped by our booth at the Salt Lake FanX Convention. He read the
first page of The Golden Wizard in his narrator voice, and we knew he'd do a
great job.
9) Stephanie loves doing author visits at schools.
She's visited an international school in China and a military elementary school
in Japan.
10) We once autographed a book to "Mr.
Illiterate."

Read an Excerpt

A flash of rain pelted the entire city, but only for a few seconds, as though the heavens coughed and forgot to cover their mouth. The man secured his pack shut, protecting his vegetables.

“Oh, this again,” he said.

“Does this happen often?”

“Storms happen frequently enough,” he replied. “This ain’t no storm, though. It’s those flashy arcanists. They like makin’ a show. Just you wait. You’ll see somethin’ good yet.”

Making a show?

I headed toward the docks. Despite the creeping chill, I moved with energy and purpose. Crowds of people clogged the roadways, making travel by foot damn near impossible, even for an arcanist. Frustrated, I jumped onto the wheels of a nearby carriage and used the extra height to pull myself onto the roof of a building. The A-frame roof made for a steep trek, but the tiles were easy to grip, even when wet.

Once on top, I turned my attention to the nearest pier.

A tremendous flash of lightning lit the sky. Thunder chased after, strong enough to rattle the windows and pierce straight to my bone. Luthair shifted through the shadows as another round lit the sky. I knew some arcanists could control the weather, but I had never seen a demonstration so showy before.

A flurry of snow soon followed, but like the rain, it lasted only a few seconds. People lifted their hands in the air, trying to catch the snowflakes as they approached the earth. Most evaporated before anyone could hold them, but I managed to catch a few on my tongue.

The ocean waters beyond the docks swirled into whirlpools. Two cyclones of saltwater rose upward, forming pillars of ocean as thick as forty oak trees, each stretching straight to the sky.

Rapt by the show of magic, I almost didn’t notice the massive leviathan snaking through the ocean. Its shiny scales glistened with each new flash of lightning. The serpent-like body must’ve been as long as ten galley ships and as thick as a three-mast sailing ship. Although the mystical creature never lifted his head out of the water, I already knew who he was.

Decimus—Gregory Ruma’s legendary leviathan.

WRITTEN WITH YOU by Aly Martinez

WWY - BT banner.jpg

“Aly Martinez is one of the best in the business. You have to read her books.” --Meghan March, New York Times Bestselling Author

Written With You, the emotional and highly anticipated conclusion to The Regret Duet from USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez, is available now!

WW You FOR WEB.jpg
When I was fifteen, a single bullet changed my life. I spent the next decade trying to outrun the devastation of my past, building an empire that would shield me from whatever life could throw at me.
But all the money in the world couldn’t help me when I found a screaming newborn abandoned on my doorstep.
I’d never wanted to be a father. Passing the sludge that ran through my veins down to an innocent child seemed like a tragedy. But there she was—pink cheeks, red hair, and mine.
Somehow, against all logic, that little girl became the best thing that ever happened to me. It was impossible to stay lost in the past when I was the only one who could protect her future.
Which is exactly why, when her mother came back four years later, I was ready for battle.
If only I could stop myself from falling in love with her during the war.

Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.
By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too.
When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him all the same.
But that was where my fairytale ended.
Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.
At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.
I owed Caven my life.
However, I owed that innocent child more.
And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

Because
Trees Have Consequences

A
consequence of getting older is current experiences inevitably get threaded to
memories as Maybelline Emmons learns when she embarks on what she thinks will
be a simple road trip to find a tree. She experiences something so confounding,
painful, transformational--none of which she signed on for; her evenings
drinking Pinot, watching her hummingbirds...this was always enough.

This
passionate yet comic story revolves around efforts to save an old-growth tree
but things go off the rails in a compelling, edge-of-your-seat way. Per
Virginia Arthur's two previous novels, Treed will curl the tendrils of your
heart and blow your leaves off.

Excerpt

Wiping
tears off her face, she returned to the hotel where an envelope from Millicent
was waiting for her.

Once
in her room, she tossed the envelope on the chair and gave way to the bed. She
stared at the ceiling. It had
not
even been 24 hours; there was still time. She called Millicent's cell phone.
She left a message she was
returning
to Santa Barbara and to send any final paperwork to her address there, most
importantly, the title.

The
next morning she drove past the tree, a stone of dread in her gut. What if
Tamara was right? No, she was
the
owner now. No one could legally touch the land, the tree, Millicent would see
to that.

She
was grateful for the long drive home even as her cell was alerting her she had
messages. She turned it off.

Thoughts
of the tree were now taking up all the space in her mind; space previously
taken up by grief and
loneliness
was now replaced with "what the hell have I done?" Which was better?

"What
the fuck?" she said out loud, surprising herself because she rarely if
ever used this word. "What do I
do?"
she asked no one. Fence it? Cut the kids out? Where else would they 'hang out'?
In the parking lots of their
apartment
complexes, the strip malls, the drugstores, behind their computers? There was
no place for them. What
about
Tamara's grandfather? What would he say about cutting the kids out, off?
"Make it into a park" is what
Millicent
said. What about liability? What if something happened? This is why people
fence land off from other
people.
Would the insurance company force her to do this? Obviously the little old lady
that owned it never
did...Millicent
knew all about these things. Millicent would guide her.

About
the Author

 photo Treed Author Virginia Arthur_zpsrs5ymphk.jpg

Virginia
Arthur was born wild. She took to exploring the wilds of her new Ohio suburban
jungle by the time she was ten, launching great birding expeditions in between
backhoes and bulldozers. Her bird list grew shorter in direct correlation with
the number of homes growing larger such that by the time she was 12, she was a
raging environmentalist, before the word even existed. This delighted her
parents to no end. She continued on this profoundly pointless and frustrating
path by earning a B.S. in Field Biology and a M.S. in Botany (Ecology) only to
continue the exploring, observing of a country at war with its natural self.
She weaves these experiences into her novels. She has published three novels,
all “comedic-drama”. Her first novel, Birdbrain, an eco-political fiction novel
based on real life experiences, was published in 2014. Phat('s) Chance for
Buddha in Houston (Or How I Spent My Summer Vacation), men's coming-of-age
short fiction, was published in 2015. In September 2018, she published her
latest, Treed, also eco-political fiction.
