The Marriage Effect by Karla Sorensen

Title: The Marriage Effect
Author: Karla Sorensen
Genre: Sports Romance
Release Date: June 12, 2019
Cover Design: Najla Qamber Designs

Logan Ward doesn’t want any more women in his life.

Being a football player and legal guardian to his four younger sisters means his playbook is full. However, one of them just landed in the hospital, which gives his brother the shot he needs to challenge Logan for custody.

Legal counsel says there’s only one thing Logan can do—find himself a wife.

Paige McKinney doesn’t always think things through.

Like walking away from her modeling career without a thought of what might come next. She really doesn’t think it through when she proclaims herself Logan’s fiancĂ© at the hospital, simply because the sexy—albeit grumpy—football player forgot his cell phone at a party and security won’t let her pass. It’s not her fault it was overheard by the worst possible person.

A bargain is struck, and a fake marriage is the perfect solution. But the simple solution creates a whole new problem: they’re not as different as they seem. The reluctant groom has fire inside him, and his impetuous bride is about to light the match.

Well, let’s see ... I’m a wife and a mother. If the things that I write bring a smile to someone's face, then I've done my job. I am obsessed with Outlander (both the books and the show). I’m almost exclusively a romance reader, which means some people will never consider me a literary snob. If I could meet one historical figure, it would be Jane Austen. I received my Bachelors in Public Relations and worked in health care marketing before I had my babies. I hate Twitter. I do it, but I hate it. Also, if you want to get on my good side, bring me wine and I'll love you forever.

Accidental Knight by Nicole Snow

Accidental Knight
Nicole Snow
Publication date: May 28th 2019
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Accidentally wed to a man I’ve never met…

I inherited a freaking husband.

Grandpa’s will was a shocker: huge fortune, gorgeous ranch, and the best horse ever.

The fine print? Marrying Mr. Grump-alicious.

The man who’s supposed to protect me from…what, exactly?

That’s what I hope to find out if Drake Larkin ever talks.

I know what I’m in for the first time his glance tears me open.

A broody enigma who’s large and in charge.

A mute who curls my toes when he barks a few words.

A silly, shameful, is-this-real-life crush I can’t afford.

Did I mention our pretend marriage-rodeo lasts six damn months?

Long enough to teach my heart cartwheels.

Time enough to seal this madness with a kiss.

Insane enough for secrets to slip – and sting.

Grandpa’s last wishes scare me. So do Drake’s real motives.

But it’s my beast of a “husband” who makes ridiculous seem right.

Have I found my knight?

Does love have a prayer when life throws us a dragon?

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Nicole Snow – a mistake meant to be. One moody alpha slayer gives his all to rustle up the damsel of his dreams. Full length romance novel with a heartwarming Happily Ever After.

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

(Bella)

“You aren’t going nowhere till I see how bad that knee is,” he rumbles. “Shit. If I’d known outside it was bleeding so bad, I’d have carried you in.”

Peachy. Another image I don’t need, being flung over Drake’s wall of a shoulder like this is some kind of crazy western romance novel or something.

He would have to say something like that, wouldn’t he? Kick this whole awkward attraction thing into overdrive.

I shake my head too fast. “Come on, it’s not that bad. Barely hurts. I’m sure it’s like my arms. The blood makes it look worse than it is.”

“Really?”

I nod.

“So where’s the blood coming from that’s dripping on your sock?”

“What?” I lean forward to see.

It’s the only ruse, the only opening, he needs. Taking advantage of my movement, he lifts me up in one quick jerk.

Pain flares up my leg, into my thigh, and down again into my shin. I suck in a breath to counter it and to keep from squealing.

“Barely hurting now?” he says.

“Screw you,” I snap. It hurts, honestly. Stings so bad I can’t even afford to kick him where it counts.

“Not today, darlin’. No time for sexy business.”

Oh. My. God.

My other knee almost gives out. It’s mostly Drake propping me up, running his hands up my legs, and then…then we’re doing this.

“Hold on to the table so I can unbutton your jeans.”

I reach for it, all right, because that sentence nearly destroys what’s left of my poor sanity.

Thankfully, an iota of common sense prevails. “I’m not that helpless! I’ll unbutton them myself.”

“Go ahead. Unzip, too. Then push them down.”

“I don’t need step by step instructions!” I almost shout it.

Other parts of me are far too well aware how close he’s standing next to me.

How his hands feel on my waist, supposedly to steady me.

How I’m about to drop my jeans, and be standing here, in front of this total stranger I’m married to, wearing next to nothing.

The shine in his eyes says he’s enjoying this. Of-freaking-course he is.

It can’t be that bad, can it?

Maybe I can even have some fun, leave him with a lovely view he’ll never see again. Of all my ass-sets, I know what men like best, even if I’m still a hopeless virgin.

Deviancy strikes. I’ve worn less at the beach.

“Okay,” I whisper.

High King of Britain by Tracy Cooper-Posey

High King of Britain
Tracy Cooper-Posey
(Once and Future Hearts #5)
Publication date: May 30th 2019
Genres: Fantasy, Historical, Romance
All she wants is to fight for Arthur and Britain.

Lady Mair is a daughter of Corneus—the house of perfect warriors—and wants only to serve Arthur, War Duke of Britain, as her brothers Lucan and Bedivere do. Yet King Alun of BrocĂ©liande wants to make her his queen, which would mean leaving Britain and Arthur’s court.
Alun’s younger brother and Mair’s best friend, Rawn, sees things as Mair does—nothing is more important than being the best warriors they can be.
Only Mair is entangled in the politics of the kings and leaders surrounding Arthur, just as his army prepares to fight two major battles in one summer, and people wonder when Arthur will become High King of Britain.
Plus, Rawn is hiding secrets of his own, that run counter to Mair’s desparate wish to be free to fight for Britain.
This novel is part of the ancient historical romance series, Once and Future Hearts, set in Britain during the time of King Arthur.
EXCERPT:
After washing and exchanging her bloody war gear for clean leather, Mair ducked under the tent flap and went in search of wine, her mind calm, her thoughts peaceful. The battle had been won. It was time to celebrate.
Somewhere nearby, there would be a campfire with like-minded warriors sitting around it, with wineskins and cups. A place would be made for her.
“Lady Mair.” The call came from her left.
Mair halted to look. The man who came toward her was black of hair, with a sharp jaw. He looked familiar. Mair took in his wide shoulders, and the strong wrists. He had washed and changed just as she had, so there were no house markings on his clothes or cloak to tell her who he was.
She glanced at his face once more as he stopped before her. He had thick dark brows over very blue eyes…and then she knew why he seemed familiar to him. “Arawn Uther,” she said. “You have joined Arthur’s army now?”
“My brother sent me, as he could not be spared himself,” Arawn Uther said. “Alun remains in Lesser Britain to hold the eastern borders with Hoel.” He reached inside his over tunic, underneath the cloak. “I have a letter for you, from Alun.”
The mention of a letter should have filled her with delight. Instead, Mair felt a twisting and tightening in her belly. “He did not send it by messenger?”
“Not this letter,” Arawn Uther held the sealed roll toward her.
The very slight emphasis made her hesitate as she reached for the roll. “Why this letter? You know what is in it, don’t you?”
Arawn Uther didn’t shift his stance. His expression did not change. Yet Mair could feel the wave of sadness that swept him. His blue eyes glittered. “My mother…Ilsa…” His throat worked.
Mair sighed. “Oh, Arawn… I’m so sorry.”
He nodded. Then he cleared his throat. “As you can imagine, my mother’s passing changes things.”
He did not finish the thought, but he did not need to. Mair could finish it all by herself. It changes things between you and Alun.
Alun had been pressing for a solid arrangement between them for years, via messengers and couriers, and letters like this one. Now, with his mother’s passing, he would reasonably expect to secure the next generation.
Mair looked at the roll hanging forgotten in Arawn’s hand. She didn’t want to read it. Once she read Alun’s entreaty that she join him in BrocĂ©liande, she would be forced to make a decision.
Mair gripped Arawn’s arm. “It is not the time to tax our minds with such matters,” she said firmly. “We have clawed victory from this day. I was about to find some wine and I insist you come and drink it with me.”
“But…”
She shook her head. “No. You fought today as I did. You now get to enjoy the warrior’s rights. Drink and…perhaps we can find you a willing, warm woman, to take that care from your eyes.”
Arawn rolled his eyes. “Really, Lady Mair–”
“Mair,” she said firmly.
“Rawn,” he replied, just as firmly. He narrowed his eyes and stuffed the letter back inside his tunic. “Where is this wine you speak of?”

Audible
Interview with a Ghost by Angela pepper is the a book in the Restless Spirits Cozy Ghost Series. I am really not sure if it is book 1 or 2 though. On Goodreads it says book 2 on Audible it says book 1 and book 2 of the series. The Audiobook is narrated by Marie Hoffman. Both ladies have done a great job. Angel Pepper has brought a mystery where just about everyone in the book could be a suspect and most of them were actually accused. The book will leave you guessing until the end. Marie Hoffman does an amazing job of bringing this book to life with her narration. Her character voices are great and she kept my attention fully all the way through the book. This is a fun and light story even though it is dealing with a murder. There is no strong language or sex so it is a clean read and good for pretty much anyone. The audiobook is 7 hours and 9 minutes long.

Piper is going to meet her favorite author. Instead of having a wonderful conversation she finds him dead. She does get to meet his mute ghost though. The Ghost of George helps her to solve his murder even though he is mute. Piper just have to figure out the clues she is showing him.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Audiobookworm Promotions on behalf of various authors, narrators, and publishers. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Top 10 List
Jess the Audiobookworm's top 10 Recommended Audiobook Activities
  1. Relaxing. This isn't so much an activity as a lack of an activity, but it allows for total audio immersion.
  2. Roadtripping. I love a great road trip playlist, but who says it has to be all about the music? Set cruise control and hit play!
  3. Exercising. Nothing takes my mind off of the pain of an intense workout like an even more intense story. A high-paced action thriller will still have your heart racing long after the cardio ends.
  4. Beaching. Audiobook listening is the ultimate summer fun. We've been bringing books to the pool and beach with us for decades, why not upgrade? Listening frees up your hands and you won't have to worry about a book blocking your sun or some kid splashing your pages.
  5. Working. Why count the hours in your work day when you could be counting the hours you've knocked off of your current audiobook? Turn 8 hour work days into 8 hour listening sessions. Just check with the boss first!
  6. Running errands. I always have an audiobook loaded up on my phone when heading out to run errands, especially if doctor visits are involved. I actually look forward to hanging out in waiting rooms now. I've also been known to accidentally LOL while listening in such situations… #awkward
  7. Coloring. Coloring is the perfect mindless activity to pair with audiobook listening. It's super relaxing and the combo keeps both your mind and hands occupied.
  8. Sleeping. I don't personally suffer from insomnia, but I've heard that audio listening has helped those who do. Listening to a great audiobook is the perfect way to drift peacefully off to sleep. Just remember to set a sleep timer on the book before settling in!
  9. Reading. Studies have shown that maximum comprehension is obtained through listening and reading simultaneously. This should end of the book versus audiobook debate once and for all. They’re both winners!
  10. Flying. Fear over flying? Pop an audio into your ears and lie back. I recommend choosing something relaxing like a nice Nicholas Sparks-esque romance. There's no need to heighten your anxiety with an adrenaline pumping Thriller.
