Own To Obey by Zoey Ellis

Own To Obey
Zoey Ellis
(Myth of Omega #7)
Publication date: February 6th 2019
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance

He obtained her – and now she must obey

The Alpha Prince

Brutality and tradition are a way of life for ferocious tribe leader, Kardos. Born different from the other princes, he strives to be the best–to earn his place and prove his worth.

After negotiating for a rare Omega not seen in his Land for over one hundred years, he is keen to present her to the High Chief and gain the recognition he deserves.

It doesn’t matter that she has mesmerizing beauty, or that her manner is too mild for his culture. It doesn’t matter that deep down, a craving burns strong to keep her for himself.

She must accept her fate – and so must he.

The Omega Gift

Sheltered all her life, Omega Shaya found joy in the gardens of her home, the protection of her sister, and the simplicity of her life.

But when the decision to save her sister suddenly puts her in the possession of a fierce tribal warrior, she begins to understand that life can be savage, and painful, and complex.

Alone, and with no way to protect herself, Shaya is determined to overcome the harsh treatment of a culture she doesn’t understand, but when she finds herself attracted to the Alpha’s dominance, she has to find a way to resist him so he doesn’t break her completely; body, mind, and heart.

Own To Obey is the first book in this couple’s story, but the seventh installment of the Myth of Omega series. This is a dark, steamy, Omegaverse romance. Cliff-hanger included. For fans of barbarian Alpha anti-heroes, sweet but savvy Omega heroines, epic fantasy worlds, and captive romances. Discover a magical kind of dark…

Own To Obey includes romance and situations of a dark nature. Some aspects of this story may be sensitive for some readers. For ages 18 and over.

EXCERPT:

“And am I part of your tribe now?”

“No. But you belong to me.”

Her frown caused a deep line in between her brows.

“I own you,” he clarified.

“That sounds like slavery to me,” she murmured on a breath, her brown eyes drifting from him.

“It is not,” Kardos barked. “We are not like the Western Lands. We have a rich, honorable, and developed culture that you are expected to adopt. And you will adopt it by the time we arrive.” He lowered his voice. “And do not forget that you volunteered to be here in place of your sister. You have no right to complain about anything. You will obey all instructions without hesitation. Is that clear?”

Her eyes lowered and she nodded.

“What is your age?”

“Nineteen,” she responded.

He suspected as much. “And your name is Shaya.”

Her eyes darted up. “It is Katashaya.”

Kardos frowned. “That is not what your sister called you.”

A fleeting expression contorted her face for a moment, but then her head dipped back down before Kardos had the chance to decipher what it was.

“My name is Katashaya,” she said, her voice firm.

“I will call you what your sister called you,” Kardos decided.

The Omega’s mouth tightened slightly. “I will not answer,” she whispered.

Shock bolted through Kardos. “What?”

The Omega said nothing. Her eyes were stuck to a point on the floor.

Kardos lunged forward and grabbed her jaw. “Speak! What did you say?”

The fear in her eyes was mitigated by the tension in her lips. “Only my sister and my friends call me that.”

Kardos battled the anger that grew at her audacity to challenge his decision. This disobedience would have to be trained out of her. “Did King Malloron call you that?”

She blinked. “Yes.”

“Then so will I,” he roared, suddenly furious. He gripped her jaw harder, a rush of something ugly and dark whipping through his body. As far as he was aware, King Malloron hadn’t even known she was an Omega. How is it that he called her a name she considered intimate?

As he examined her face, he remembered he’d seen her treating King Malloron when he was wounded. Maybe she had done more for him than that. He gritted his teeth as the ugliness within him expanded and revolved, almost taking over his whole body. “Was King Malloron a friend to you?” he asked, his voice deadly and low. “Did you fuck him?”

The Omega’s eyes widened and she tried to shake her head, but he held her too tightly. “No,” she mumbled through her closed jaw. “He was my King. I served under him.”

Kardos drew her face to his, until her perfect mouth was almost against his lips. “You serve me now,” he growled.

EXCERPT:

When you met the father of the woman you loved for the first time and half the people in the room knelt, it was probably a good idea to follow along. So I wasn’t sure why I didn’t.

Keagan, Rohan, and Willem all rested on their knees, heads bowed in front of one scary-looking dude. It still hadn’t quite sunk in that Deva had just introduced him as her dad. Mom had just given him lip—leave it to her to stand up to him. He seemed like someone who kept attack dogs around just to snuggle with, if a guy like him even snuggled.

Nikhil was well over six feet tall—probably not as tall as Willem, but he made up for the difference in sheer, domineering presence. His simple black cotton T-shirt and jeans might have been unassuming, but they highlighted how fucking intimidating he was. Even the glowing tattoos around his neck and wrists made him seem more menacing. His black hair was trimmed high and tight, and his steel-gray eyes glinted like sharp daggers as he took in the room.

He barely glanced at the three men on their knees, passing over them quickly. His eyes narrowed as they reached Ozzie, and his jaw twitched when his gaze landed on Llyr. Neither Llyr nor Ozzie had knelt. Ozzie leaned casually against one wall, completely unfazed by Nikhil’s arrival, but Llyr . . . Both his hands were clenched into fists so tight his knuckles were bone-white.

“At ease,” Nikhil rumbled down to the trio on the ground, and they immediately stood. Shit, had Deva told me he was military? Then Nikhil’s attention slipped to Deva and his entire demeanor shifted. His face lit up in a huge smile and he stretched out his arms. “Baby girl, I missed you.”

Deva squeezed my hand as she passed and gave me a reassuring look, making me feel a little less like a jerk for not bowing to her dad. I still wished she’d prepared me a little better for this, but feeling out of my element had kind of become my natural state lately.

She slipped into her father’s arms, the tension slipping away from her as he held her tight. His eyes grew glassy and his brows twitched for the briefest second before the show of tenderness disappeared so completely I wondered if I’d imagined it.

“You should have come to us before it got to this. We’d have helped,” he said.

“I needed to prove I could take care of myself,” Deva replied.

“We never thought you couldn’t.”

“I needed to prove it to myself, Dad. And I honestly don’t believe there’s anything any of you could have done to help the bloodline. I’m the only one who can find them, and I’m the only one . . . or I was the only one who could see the fate hounds. Now I have help, so you don’t need to be here.” She glanced back at the rest of us, and I straightened as Nikhil’s gaze landed on me. His dark eyebrows lifted the tiniest bit before he glanced at my mom and smiled.

“Who are your friends? I know those two fuckers already.” He jabbed a thumb at Ozzie and Llyr. “And I remember Willem from the Haven War.” He clapped the big man on the shoulder and Willem nodded.

“They’re our replacements.” A jovial male voice filtered in from the entry to the suite as three more people entered. Didn’t this place have locks on the goddamn doors?

But when I saw who it was, I finally did have a sudden urge to drop to my knees, because I was in the presence of fucking greatness.

“Holy motherfucking fuck,” I murmured when Lukas North appeared, followed by his brother Iszak and then Belah, who I’d only seen with the band a handful of times, but whose face was unforgettable. “Fate’s Fools, in the flesh.”

Valentine Countdown Blitz A Chaotic Courtship Bethany Swafford Day 4

For as long as she can remember, Bethany Swafford has loved reading books. That love of words extended to writing as she grew older and when it became more difficult to find a 'clean' book, she determined to write her own. Among her favorite authors are Jane Austen, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Georgette Heyer.

When she doesn't have pen to paper (or fingertips to laptop keyboard), she can generally be found with a book in hand.

Twenty-year-old Diana Forester, a country-bred young woman, fears that her inexperience and uncertainties have discouraged the charming Mr. John Richfield.

On arriving back home from London, she learns that he has already arrived, ready to continue their acquaintance and explore whether they are suited for each other.

If Diana thought that deciding her future marriage mate was difficult in London, courting takes on a whole new aspect when Diana's younger siblings become involved. She finds herself dealing with her own feelings, her sister, her younger brother, jealous members of a house party, a jilted suitor, and a highwayman as she falls in love with the charming Mr. Richfield.

Snippet:

To my surprise, Sarah was already in our bedroom. I thought she would have been with her friend for most of the day. “You’re back early. Did you and Miss Sandwood not have a great deal to discuss?”
“I thought you’d never get here!” Sarah said, ignoring my question completely as she spun to face me. I frowned at her as I put my outside garments away. She wrung her hands together and tapped her foot. Agitation was a state which I had seldom seen her in. “Diana, I must speak with you!”
“About what?” I asked calmly. Sarah took up pacing and seemed disinclined to continue with whatever she wanted to say.
“You must listen to me for once in your life!”
Sinking onto our bed, I tried to hide a smile. “Then come out and tell me what has you in such a state.”
“I think Mr. Richfield is the highwayman!”
My smile faded instantly as I stared at her. How had she come up with this ridiculous idea? “You what?” I asked in astonishment.
“There, I’ve said it!” Sarah collapsed into the chair at the dressing table. “I’ve considered the matter carefully, Diana, and as your sister, I could not let you become attached to such a black-hearted criminal!”
I couldn’t help but laugh in response to that absurd notion. “‘Black-hearted criminal’? You cannot be serious, Sarah. I have never heard anything so outlandish. You’ve been reading too many of those books you are always teasing me about.”
“Diana, I am completely serious! Stop laughing!”
“How can I take you seriously when everything you say is utter nonsense? Why would you possibly think Mr. Richfield, a true gentleman if I’ve ever met one, is a common criminal?”
Sarah leaned forward, her eyes wide. “Don’t you remember what Aunt Forester said at dinner yesterday?” she asked, lowering her voice for some reason. She acted like she was about to disclose some deep secret to me, and I found myself leaning closer. “About the highwayman being around the Bath area?”
Thinking back, I did, in fact, remember the conversation and our aunt’s comment. “Yes, of course, I remember. What about it?”
            “Mr. Richfield was there!”
I failed to follow her line of reasoning. “I’m sure a great many people were in Bath at the same time, Sarah. Aunt and Uncle Forester, for example, were there for two months, I believe.”
Shaking her head, Sarah groaned. “Don’t be obtuse, Diana! You have to see the connection here. Mr. Richfield was in Bath when a highwayman terrorized innocent people. And now, he’s here, where a highwayman has mysteriously appeared to threaten our peaceful home!”
Taken aback, I frowned as I considered her logic. “No, you’re taking things far out of context, Sarah. Mother sent me a letter while I was in London and she wrote about the highwayman. And, for another thing, what reason would Mr. Richfield have to rob ladies of their jewels? There is none!”
Crossing her arms, Sarah scowled at me. “Charlotte and I have discussed this in detail, Diana,” she told me. Perfect. Now the tale would be spread to everyone we knew. “She has no idea how the Richfield family came by their money, only her father and Mr. Richfield’s father were friends at school. Mr. Richfield is posing as a gentleman and supporting himself on ill-gotten gains!”
Again with her over dramatics. “Sarah, this is silly. I don’t want to hear another word.”
“You just don’t want to admit you admire a criminal!”
“That is not the reason I object to this ridiculous theory!”
“You just don’t want me to be right!”
“You’re making things up that have no basis in fact!” We were both on our feet, and I had my hands on my hips. “You’re still mad Mr. Richfield is interested in me and not you!”

“Hardly! He’s a criminal, and I will prove it to you!”

Excerpt

“You really
want to know who I thought you’d be with when I came back?” Jeremy said,
sobering. He goes on without my answer. “I didn’t picture anyone, because I
knew all along it was supposed to be me.”
I feel my
pulse in my temples in the residual silence. Why? Why would he say something
like that, knowing how much I yearned for him after he left? For what could’ve
been?
“Not what
you wanted to hear?”
My breath
hisses against my teeth. “Not what I expected to hear.”
“The truth
hurts sometimes.”
No kidding.
It feels like tiny crowbars are wrenching open my heart, allowing him to slide
in through the cracks. “And when did you find that out? Before or after you
made your laps around campus?”
“I always
knew it.”
Ouch. Was
that supposed to hurt more or less than any other answer?
Before I
get the chance to ponder that further, his hand is on my neck, his fingers curled
into my hair. His mouth is on mine in less than the span of a heartbeat, the
time it takes a hummingbird to beat its wings. There is no chance for reason to
invade my senses, because he’s already there, his lips filling me with
nostalgia, his tongue caressing the ache of loneliness that’s only expanded
since the moment he left.
Time stops.
Or maybe it moves backward. I can remember everything he made
seventeen-year-old me feel when he singled me out in a classroom and wouldn’t
accept that I didn’t want to let anyone in. That I’d embraced the isolation my
classmates made me feel.
He filled
me with strength. He made me forget. But most of all, he made me feel.
And then he
left.
I push my
chair back from the table, breaking the connection between us. The look in his
eyes is half dreamy, half dazed. Not at all confused as to why I cut that
reminiscent moment short.
“You can’t
just kiss me like that.”
“Like
what?”
“Like you
never left.”
He rubs his
fingertips over his lips. “You can’t tell me you don’t feel like nothing’s
changed.”
“But
everything’s changed.” I stand and push my hair back with both hands, clutching
my head. “You hurt me, Jeremy. I don’t think you’re even aware of how much. It
wasn’t just puppy love.”
“That was a
different time. We were younger. We both had a lot of growing up to do.”
“You were
everything to me!” I’m borderline yelling until I remember Asher upstairs in
his room. I run a hand down my face and shake my head. “You’re too important to
be casual. I can’t be indifferent with you.” And I can’t act like every time he
touches me, the scar tissue around my heart doesn’t quake.
He stands
and matches my gaze, his expression just as hard and intense as it was before.
Can’t he see he has the power to break me? Can’t he see I can’t afford to let
that happen anymore?

About the Author

Liz Mugavero has been writing stories since she could hold a pen. Before that, she would tell them to anyone who would listen (not many at the time). After deciding early on she would write books for a living, she practiced by writing bad, angst-filled poems, short stories and even a storyline for a soap opera–all by age 15. She never wavered from her goals despite all the usual questions including, “So are you going to be an English teacher with that degree in English?” or, “That writing thing sounds nice, but how are you REALLY going to make a living?”

She went on to get a master’s in writing and publishing and spent time in journalism, PR, and presently, corporate communications. And she’s confident this writing thing IS the way to make a living.

Aside from writing, she loves animals (has a houseful), the beach, reading other writers’ masterpieces and Starbucks coffee.
