Indigo Knights Series by A.J. Downey

Her
Thin Blue Lifeline
Indigo
Knights Book I
by
A.J. Downey
Genre:
Contemporary Romance

Chrissy
Franco has every reason to take one hell of a victory lap around the
courtroom. She’s just defended her client to the best of her
ability and what’s more? Her client was actually innocent. Oh,
she’d killed her husband, baseball legend Skip Maguire, alright;
but he’d been about to hit a homerun with Miranda’s head.

His
rabid fan base doesn’t agree with the verdict, and they’ve set
their sights on Chrissy as the one to blame. One of them is about to
set into motion a dangerous game when he publishes poor Chrissy’s
address online…

Enter
Tony McCormick, a detective with the right kind of attitude and
Chrissy’s sort of ex-boyfriend. When he’s called to Chrissy’s
apartment, he’s prepared for the worst. He’s a homicide detective
after all. When he arrives, it seems that someone might have
forgotten to check to see if Chrissy was still alive… now it’s
everything he can do to find the man who did this and the other
behind it all before it’s really too late.

His
Cold Blue Command
Indigo
Knights Book II

Assistant
District Attorney Damien Parnell leads a double life above and beyond
his membership with the Indigo Knights. Driven by dark desires
considered shameful by most, he covets the one thing he can’t allow
himself to have – a real relationship.

Enter
Ally Blaylock, an innocent by Yale’s standards. She’s the sweet
and beautiful girl who makes his coffee at the café across the
street from his office. She’s done her best to flirt off and on
with the high powered attorney and he can’t help but be drawn to
her whimsical charm.

When
Ally finds her world tipped on its axis, Yale goes against his better
judgment and offers her some unlikely help. He knows better than most
that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, but in this
particular case, could it be the opposite? Could Allison Blaylock be
the start down the road to his salvation?

A
Low Blue Flame
Indigo
Knights Book III

Lillian
Banks’ career took off like a house on fire and she’s on top of
the world. Great job that she loves, moved to a great city, into an
opulent new condo, in one of the world’s premier smart buildings no
less; all she was missing was the kind of romance to set her soul
aflame. She thought she’d found it but instead, found herself
burned.

Backdraft
knows what it’s like to get burned and not just by fire. His ex,
Torri, did quite the number on him recently by banging one of his
firehouse bros behind his back. He’s sworn off love and dating
altogether for the time being and is happier for it. He just wishes
he could get the time he wasted with that crazy skank back
again.

Out
of the ashes, an unlikely friendship is formed. Backdraft and Lilli
could find themselves rising if only they can get past their hurts
and give things a chance. Of course, lasting happiness is no
guarantee, no matter how much they might burn for each other. After
all, sometimes what was doesn’t want to let go.

His
Wild Blue Rose
Indigo
Knights Book IV

Alyssa
isn’t completely honest when she answers the ad for a roommate
online. True, she needs a place to live, true she’s getting a
divorce, true; he’s a cheating jerk. There’s just a little bit
more to it than that. So when the ad comes across her screen
Indigo
City beat cop looking to rent out a fully furnished room…
 she
jumps on it, because what could be safer than living with a
cop?

Golden
isn’t too keen on living with a chick, but after posting online
looking for a roommate, he’s found the pickings are slim. The
softly spoken brunette doesn’t seem like she’s much trouble, plus
she’s got the cash up front, so what the hell? She’ll just have
to get over his bringing home badge bunnies from the 10-13. He’s
got a stressful job, and the best way to blow off steam, in his
estimation, is hot sex.

It’s
a pressure cooker waiting to blow and it turns out the new roomie has
moxie, which gets Golden to thinking, which leads to him feeling.
This is either going to be a really good or a really bad idea.

Her
Pained Blue Silence
Indigo
Knights Book V

Everleigh
has had a wandering spirit since the day she was born. Her boring,
small town could barely contain her and at the first opportunity, she
fled. It was only natural falling in line with the freedom that MC
life brought to her. The allure of never being told what to do a
strong one. Sadly, she found herself trading one cage for another.
Given the road name Silence, for her shy lack of voice, she's been a
part of a motorcycle gang out of Maryland. A rough and tumble lot
believing in sovereignty, running guns and drugs through Indigo
City.

Narcos
has been undercover with the outlaw MC, the Knights of Crescentia for
more than a year. In that time, he's seen and heard all sorts of
things, except for Silence's voice. She's the president's Ol' Lady
and probably knows infinitely more than he does as a prospect to the
club. All that is about to change. Narcos is about to be patched in.
Unfortunately, patching in means going to an extreme he'd never
thought he'd be pushed to and Silence is in the crosshairs.

How
will he get through this, through to her, and keep them both alive?

A Code Blue Call
Indigo Knights Book VI

It was a dark night
of the soul for Angel, the night she appeared like his namesake. He
would have liked to have known her, but she was gone the next
morning. Now, more than a year later, he was doing much better,
continuing his work in Indigo City’s streets as a paramedic,
responding to medical emergencies.
Claire could never
forget the medic whose life she saved just by being in the right
place at the right time. Still, it wasn’t enough to rescue her from
her own dark night of the soul and unlike him, she followed through.
Fate had other ideas
for the both of them and for whatever reason, their paths crossed
again at exactly the right moment. Both of them were now determined
to not let this second chance pass them by, not like the first…

Aiden Winchester: Call it self-preservation, but I need to get
out of Hollywood. My heart’s just been shredded by my longtime girlfriend.
Worse yet, we have to pretend we’re still America’s sweethearts until after our
next picture is released. With the next six months looking more like American Horror Story than a Lifetime
channel love story, I’m heading east to make my stage debut.

Broadway,
here I come.

Franky Marchesi: I love my close-knit Italian family. I’d
probably love them a lot more if they weren’t in my face all the time. So when
my best friend begs me to move into her Upper West Side brownstone—rent free—to
take care of her new pup whenever she travels, I’d be crazy to say no. But
while my living expenses are covered, I still need to make some money if I’m
ever going to save enough for college. So with a little luck and no experience,
I land a job as a barista at Broadway Beans, a coffee shop in the theater
district. But on my first day, I almost kill the hottest guy I’ve ever seen.
With a latte. Who knew making over-priced coffee could be so difficult?
It’s a hell
of a great way to meet someone though.

A
modern-day “Moonstruck,” BROADWAY BEANS is a friends-to-lovers romantic comedy.

Excerpt

It was
nearly two o’clock when we stopped in front of an Italian deli. The entire
scene looked like a movie set. Kids played in the street. Old women in black
coats and kerchiefs waited on a bench in front of a bus stop. A group of
teenagers hung out on the street corner, wearing flat-brimmed baseball caps and
blasting hip-hop music until a woman opened a window from the second story of a
nearby building and threatened to call the cops.
And all
this in temperatures that had my nose at a near-constant drip and my blood
turning to slush.
The driver
opened his door to step out, but Franky was already out of the car.
“Don’t
sweat it,” I said, patting him on the shoulder. “Thanks for catching my signal
earlier.”
“No
problem, sir. What time would you like me to return?”
I didn’t
have a clue. Dinner with my parents was usually an hour tops if I could help
it. But I already knew Franky’s family was nothing like mine.
“I don’t
know. Let’s say around six. If it will be any earlier or later, I’ll call.
Otherwise, meet us here.”
I slid
across the seat and joined Franky on the sidewalk.
“Now
listen.” She squinted up at me, her eyes lit by the sun, reflecting the richest
dark chocolate and a kaleidoscope of greens and golds. “I texted my mother
already to let her know you were coming. I told her we were friends but because
you’re a guy, they’re going to jump to conclusions. My dad will probably give
you the stink eye and look threatening. My brother will say something stupid
because he can’t help himself. My mother will ask you a million questions. And
my nonna will say something wildly inappropriate, but since she only speaks
Italian, you won’t even realize it.” She hoisted her bag over her shoulder and
tucked a curl behind her ear. “And that’s a heads-up for who I know will be
here. There can be any number of aunts, uncles, or cousins showing up to
dinner. My Uncle Al and Aunt Pip will probably be here with their kids. They
live at the end of the block. And probably my Uncle Gae.”
“He’s gay?”
She waved
her hand. “No. Gae. Gaetano. But everyone calls him Gae.” She moved in closer,
as if there were a chance someone on the street might hear what she was about
to say.
“Uncle Gae
has a couple of little . . . quirks. From the war. He has a
nervous tic, so he might look like he’s winking at you, but he’s not. It’s
pretty obvious, especially if he’s nervous or irritated. He tends to yank his
shoulder up when he does it. Just don’t stare at him. It makes him angry, and
when he gets angry, he starts to turn in these little half-circles.” She began
to demonstrate, turning first one way and then the other. With a limp, which
she’d failed to mention.
I couldn’t
help it. I laughed. She had to be pulling my leg, from the foul-mouthed
grandmother to the shell-shocked uncle.
She stopped
spinning and glared at me.
“You think
it’s funny my Uncle Gae was hurt fighting Mussolini?”
“Mussolini?
You have an uncle old enough to have fought in World War II?”
“Great-uncle.
He’s my nonna’s oldest brother.”
Had I
always been such a jerk, or was it something that unveiled itself only in cold
weather? It seemed that since I’d arrived in New York, I was saying and doing
the stupidest things.
I swallowed
and schooled my face to look remorseful. “I’m sorry. I would never laugh at a
war hero.”
“Hero?” The
way she looked at me, you’d think I’d shoved my foot farther down my throat.
“Who said anything about being a hero? He was trying to save wine casks near
Bologna when Allied artillery fire blew up the building where they were stored.
He’s an idiot. But he’s family.”
She gave me
a baleful stare and shook her head.
A window
opened overhead and an attractive older woman leaned out. “Francesca! You gonna
stand there all day or are you coming inside? You want we should starve waiting
for you?”
With her
hand shielding her eyes, Franky hollered back.
“We’re
coming! Jeez.” She could be very loud for such a little girl.
“You
ready?” she asked, squinting up at me.
“Honestly,
I’m not sure.” I glanced overhead as the window snapped shut with a bang.
“You’ll be
fine. Just don’t let them get you all flustered. If they spot any weakness,
that’s when they’re most likely to attack.”

Lucky in Love.

That’s the name
of the dating app I picked, hoping to find Mr. Better Than Average so I can
hold off planning my future as a cat lady.

I’ve been
distracted eyeballing a tall, dark, and handsome Latin hottie who works in the
library with me. He is way out of my league, and a woman has needs if you know
what I mean.

Finding a man
shouldn’t be hard when all I have to do is swipe left or right. It’ll weed out
the slimy men who have Bad Date written all over them.

Yeah, I’m
learning quickly that I’m rather unlucky in love after all. The men I pick need
warning labels, kissing lessons, and a good talking-to about manners.

Should I throw in
the towel or will this series of bad dates be exactly what I need to win Mr.
Right?

Excerpt

Pouring
milk into my mug, I watch the black and white colors swirl together until they
turn a pretty caramel. I didn’t sleep well, and the creamy mix is exactly what
the doctor ordered. Hurrying, I flick the sugar packet and dump its contents.
The door behind me opens as I toss the spoon into the sink and lift the mug to
my lips. The satisfying liquid warms my insides, and I can’t help my sigh even
if I tried.
“Rough
night?” a velvety voice asks.
I take
another sip of my glorious cup of joe before turning toward Mario. He started
working in the Reference Department three months ago and has featured in a few
of my dirty dreams. He’s gorgeous and about six feet three inches. Dark, tall,
and handsome would describe him to a T.
I shrug and
force my mind from the gutter. He brushes past me and grabs the spoon I just
discarded. The first time I saw him do this, I yelped in protest, but it seemed
he really was another gross college guy.
One with
full kissable lips.
“You’re
quiet this morning,” he says and leans against the counter next to me.
After the
episode with Tristan last night, I can’t help but stare a second longer. “No,
just a date.” The words spill from my mouth. “I mean, I was up late.”
Mario’s mug
freezes halfway to his lips, and an eyebrow raises as he stares at me.
“Fuck!” I
slap a hand over my mouth in horror. My heart races, and I know my cheeks are
bright pink. “I gotta go.” I squealed and run out of the break room.
Great job,
Izzy! Now he thinks you were up all night fucking.
Calling
myself a string of insults, I take the elevator down to the copy office. See,
we both work in our college library in different departments. I keep the copy
machines and printers stocked with paper and toner, and Mario does whatever the
students in Reference do.
We both
tend to be in the break room grabbing coffee in the mornings at the same time.
If I’m lucky, I get a glimpse of him when I do my rounds. Our conversations
aren’t long, usually revolving around our mutual love of coffee. His doesn’t
include milk, but his love of coffee runs as deep as mine.
I walk
around the corner and sigh with relief when I find the door closed. My boss,
Jerry, isn’t in yet, and I know he’ll tease me if he spots the blush still on
my cheeks. Jerry is old enough to be my dad and is the best boss I’ve had, not
that there have been many.
Kicking the
doorstop under the wooden door, I prop it open. I set my mug on the long
counter and take a quick peek at the staplers and empty the pencil sharpener
set out for students to pop in and use. My body goes into autopilot, and
Mario’s lips come to mind. I wonder if they are they as soft as they look?
I
reluctantly remind myself he’s out of my league. It’s not that I don’t think
I’m pretty. I am, but I’m not the girl all the boys come sniffing around.
They’ll look in my direction, but few take the next step. Of those who do, none
are as handsome as Mario.

Paige

Caleb and I were done keeping secrets from each other. Everything needed to be
resolved before his trial; first and foremost, the depth of deceit we’d failed
to unravel. The stakes were higher. And as our past, present, and future
collided, we should be on the same page. But what if I knew something that
would destroy him, and us?

I would do anything for him. Anything for us.

Caleb

My father was a liar, a manipulator, a killer. He was—me. Only, the
longer I’d been away from him, the more those broken pieces of myself had been
gravitating back together. Because the mind was a powerful thing. And love—was
a weakness. A strength. A four-letter word for loyalty. Where was mine? Not in
the hands of the man who’d made me this way. So I didn’t have to wonder what
would be the worst thing that could ever happen to me. Instead I wondered,
could I stop it?

My eyes
followed Paige through the mirror as she walked over to the weight rack. I
didn’t want to include her in everything that went down for her safety, but it
was the only way to prevent her from taking off again, trying to do it on her
own.
She stopped
by the five-pound weights, wistfully dragging her fingers over them before
picking up one in each hand.
My eyebrows
arched. “What are you doing?”
“It’s been
a month. My arms are weak. I just need to”—she bit her lip as she curled first
one and then the other dumbbell—“work them out a little.”
I walked up
to her and plucked the weights from her hands before setting them back onto the
rack. “This isn’t starting slow. Two-pound weights are. Better yet, no weights
at all.” I touched her stomach. “You were a personal trainer. You know to use
your core even when you’re only doing curls. With the added weight, it’ll be
too much stress on your stomach.”
“I’ve been
doing some wall pushups and a few other exercises this week, you know that. But
they aren’t enough.”
“I know,
but I don’t want you to push too hard too fast. If you pull something, it’s
going to take you twice as long to recover.” I bent and retrieved my weights
from the floor and set them on the rack. “We have to go anyway. That was
Stuart. We’re meeting with him and Langley.” My arm dropped around her
shoulders as I guided her to the door.
“You know,
being my boyfriend doesn’t give you the right to tell me what to do.”
I chuckled.
“I still know what’s best for you. But if you really want to work out your
arms, I could think of a few ways. Massaging my back. Rubbing my—”
The door to
the gym opened, revealing a guard standing in the hallway, so I lowered my head
and whispered in her ear, “Cock.”
Over the
past few days, she’d started to do this thing where she casually cupped my dick
and balls, and it had been driving me fucking nuts. It didn’t help that I got
embarrassingly hard every time she touched me. Like I was getting this second.
“You suck,”
she murmured, and I peered down to see she was smiling.
“No. You
suck.” She didn’t need to see the desire in my eyes to know where my mind
was.
“Maybe I
will.” She looked up, and my eyes grew hazy with desire as we continued out the
door and down the hall.
This
pent-up need to fuck her was making me fear the moment I finally did. Hard,
possessive. Caveman-style, I was sure. I was also sure her body wasn’t ready
for that.
“What am I
going to do with that mouth?” I muttered under my breath, my cock throbbing.
“I have a
few ideas,” she said as a matter-of-factly.
I laughed.
“Tell me. Later. In detail.” My hand circled around the nape of her neck, and I
caressed. “I would love to hear them.”
