Dirty Blood by Apryl Baker

Title: Dirty Blood
Series: The Crane Diares, Book 2
Author: Apryl Baker
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: December 18, 2018
Publisher: Limitless Publishing

Deep in the swamps of the Louisiana bayou, a horrifying secret lies waiting to be discovered.

A legend haunts the bayou, a chilling tale of a beast that is born from a curse…the Rougarou.

When Emma Rose Crane lets hunter Cass Willow convince her to help him on a ghost hunt, she never imagined she’d be trudging through the swamps, let alone stumbling upon a mess of mangled bodies—or running into the creature responsible for the rotting remains.

With no backup available to them, she’s forced to show Cass her demonic side to help them escape, but that’s not the only problem. When the creature attacked them, it infected them with the same curse that drove it mad. There’s only one hope—kill the beast to cure the infection.

Time is not on their side as they race to save themselves and discover the truth behind the legend. But first they have to survive the effects of the curse long enough to find the creature and put it down…

Before they succumb to the hunger eating them alive.

So who am I? Well, I’m the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching them, but who doesn’t love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.

Growing up in a small town, I learned a lot of values and morals, I also learned parents have spies everywhere and there’s always someone to tell your mama you were seen kissing a particular boy on a particular day just a little too long. So when you get grounded, what is there left to do? Read! My Aunt Jo gave me my first real romance novel. It was a romance titled “Lord Margrave’s Deception.” I remember it fondly. But I also learned I had a deep and abiding love of mysteries and anything paranormal. As I grew up, I started to write just that and would entertain my friends with stories featuring them as main characters.

Now, I live in small town in WV where I entertain my niece and nephew and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce…lol.

I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.

Something Like This by Alyne Hart

Title: Something Like This
Series: The Men of Evansdale County, Book 3
Author: Alyne Hart
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: December 18, 2018

Vincent Owen. He was gorgeous. He was cocky. He was a complete and total douche bag, and I was head over heels for him.

He left to become a champion, a warrior amongst men. And though he said he would call, I never heard from him again.

I never admitted to him how I felt. I never told him he made everything inside of me that hurt go away and everything that was wrong with me feel right - even if it were just for a little while. And that when he left, he took a little piece of me with him, a piece of my heart I could never get back.

That was then, and this is now and none of that matters anymore.

It all changed the day my daughter Violet was born. I moved on, life became about her and keeping my family ranch running. But now he's back to pay his respects to the man his best friend considered a father. A man our whole town loved, and he's about to find out that's not the only thing waiting for him in Evansdale.

Together again it's time to face the truth. For both of us.

The biggest question now is, is he ready for something like this?

The Monster of Selkirk Book 1: The Duality of Nature by C.E. Clayton

About the Book
Title: The Monster of Selkirk Book 1: The Duality of Nature
Author: C.E. Clayton
Genre: Fantasy
Monsters come in many forms, and not everyone knows a monster when they see one. After three hundred years of monstrous, feral elves plaguing the island nation of Selkirk, everyone believes they know what a monster is. Humans have learned to live with their savage neighbors, enacting a Clearing every four years to push the elves back from their borders. The system has worked for centuries, until after one such purge, a babe was found in the forest.

As Tallis grows, she discovers she isn’t like everyone else. There is something a little different that makes people leery in her presence, and she only ever makes a handful of friends. But when the elves gather their forces and emerge from the forests literally hissing Tallis’s name like a battle mantra, making friends is the least of her troubles. Tallis and her companions find themselves on an unwilling journey to not only clear her name, but to stop the elves from ravaging her homeland.

Book Excerpts

Excerpt 2:
Tallis should have been more attentive to watch for birds or deer, but she could not help but brood and be distracted by her own thoughts and worries. Thankfully, Donovan could not sleep, either.

Joining his cousin, he gently bumped her shoulder as a way of greeting.

Tallis glanced at him. “It’s not fair, cousin.”

Donovan nodded. “No, it’s not.”

“I thought that coming out here … I thought I’d finally have answers and figure out who I was. But now I don’t think I want to know. I don’t think I’m going to like what we find. I just want to go home and pretend like none of this happened. I’d even marry Henrik if it meant we could all just go back to the way it was.”

“Oh, come now, you’d be bored stiff if you married Henrik and stayed in Kincardine.”

“Maybe, but I didn’t want this.”

“I know, Tally. But the world is not obligated to care about what you or I want. I’m sorry it happened to you, but, well, if it helps, I think you’ll be able to handle it. Whatever it is.”

“But I don’t want to handle it. I just want to be normal.”

“Aye, but being normal is so dull.”

“So what? I’d rather be boring than hated and feared and treated as an outcast.”

“But this way, we’ll get to be a hero, Tallis. People would kill for the opportunity to save their country.”

“I don’t want to be their hero. I don't want to be anyone’s hero. I just wanted the chance to be like everyone else. I wanted someone to protect me just this once. I don’t need someone to shelter me, but it’d be nice to be protected all the same. Don’t I deserve it? Strong or not, I want someone to hold me and tell me it will be all right.”

Donovan draped his arm around his cousin’s shoulder and gave her a gentle hug. “I know, Tally. And maybe one day you’ll find someone who will be able to hold you and make you feel safe and secure no matter what. But for now we have to keep going. We have to keep fighting.”

Tallis gritted her teeth. “Aye, you’re right. Thank you, Donovan. What would I do without you?”

Donovan chuckled. “Curl in a ball and try and hide, most likely.”

Tallis rolled her eyes. “Oh, right, I forgot all about running and hiding. Is that still an option?” They laughed together and passed the rest of the night in silence.

Excerpt

He smelled
like home. Like love. Like promise and comfort, like passion and disbelief.

“What’s
wrong?” he snapped, his face alternating between joy and anger. “Why are you
here?”

Coming to
her senses, she extracted the thick envelope from her brief bag, looking him
square in the eye. “Legal matter. I’ve been instructed to deliver this to you.”
She used remarkable restraint in not peering around Gerald to get more of an
eyeful of Declan McCormick’s stately form.

Then again,
Gerald was an impenetrable wall of muscle himself, not easily subverted. She’d
need taller heels to peer around him. He did not move his palm from her arm,
and his touch infused her, a deeply satisfying sense of connection slowly
creeping along her skin, her breath quickening, his touch ringing bells inside
her that had been dormant for a decade.

“What is
it?”

“Read it.
You’ll understand.” She turned on her heel and started to leave, shaking inside
so hard she might trigger the New Madrid fault.

He glared
at her. “What? That’s it? Ten years and that’s it?” He pulled back, breaking
contact.

All her
anxiety faded, like an antidote injected straight into the heart, his words
kicking in, providing such clarity.

“Ten years
you chose, Gerald,” she hissed, mouth curling, throat seizing. “You do not get
to put this on me.” Grief flared in her, a burst like a fireball, and then it
turned to the ash of anger, a light coat settling over every spare surface of
her heart.

His
eyebrows shot up, eyes gliding away, his nose twitching and mouth tightening as
if holding back.

Squaring
her shoulders, Suzanne decided to make this easy for him. God only knew why.
“My law firm is handling the estate of deceased billionaire Harold Hopewell.
You’ve been named in his will.” She tapped the thick envelope in his hand.
“These papers explain everything.”

“Explain
what?”

“You’re his
heir. One of them, at least.”

THE SHELTERING PALMS by Preston Howard

THE SHELTERING PALMS by Preston Howard, Fictional Autobiography/Historical Fiction/Satire, 519 pp., $19.99 (paperback) $3.99 (kindle)

Title: THE SHELTERING PALMS

Author:
Preston Howard

Publisher:
Preston Howard Press

Pages: 519

Genre:
Fictional Autobiography/Historical Fiction/Satire

Renowned police labor lawyer, Preston Howard, reached a watershed in
his life—a forced retirement from the firm he built from the ground up
and a cancer diagnosis. These two events made him take a step back and
reflect over a life that had at times been hilarious, irreverent,
self-mocking, eerie and even a bit, make that, quite lewd.

A family of unique characters guided the lawyer’s formative years: a
bourbon-swilling, brilliant yet flawed grandfather who mentored the
young lad in matters of religion, politics and the quest for knowledge; a
psychic mother; an oversexed nanny; an aunt and uncle who fought on the
front lines of integration; and a fire-balling uncle who got his
fifteen minutes of fame in The Show.

Preston Howard first made his mark as a crime-fighting attorney
representing the Tucson Police Department. Then he spent over forty
illustrious years as a labor lawyer working with police officers and
union leaders and handling the gamut of fascinating, high-profile cases
across the country and even in other countries.

His many tall yarns might be viewed by some with the greatest
suspicion, but his story-telling is undeniably first-class, witty, and
absorbing.

I USED TO BE SOMEBODY—when Preston Howard walked down the street,
kings and queens would move off to the curb. Okay, so that bit of paraphrased
hyperbole, courtesy of George Thorogood, might qualify as excessive, but for
sure, when I rode into town, mayors, city managers, and police chiefs became
more than a little queasy over what kind of wrath I might bring down on their
community.
As senior partner at the highly successful Austin
labor law firm of Howard, Diamond, and McGowan, I was invariably the oldest
person in any meeting. My partners and co-workers would refer to me as “gramps”
or “pappy;” one of them commented that I surely must have been around to vote
for Hoover in 1928. If I had actually been alive back then, my vote likely
would have been for Al Smith, not that my ballot would have been of any benefit
to the man.
I did have the satisfaction that sometimes when my
colleagues were not trying to get my goat with the “old man” references, they
would call me “Obi-Wan.” At least my long and productive career had earned me
Alec Guinness status as an all-knowing legal Jedi knight.
A few years back, I began to acknowledge that the
passage of time had worn me down. My work ethic started to diminish; my
instincts, always on target before, sometimes failed me; and to their
considerable annoyance, I became increasingly testy with colleagues. My partners
urged—tactfully at first and then more impolitely—that I go out to pasture.
What an irony: I hired this bunch of ungrateful bastards, and then they had the
gall to start pushing me aside.
So as I began to seriously consider retirement two
years back, The Fates turned my life upside down and made the decision easier
to finish up my career. The cancer diagnosis and Social Security eligibility
hit me in the gut less than two weeks apart.

Preston Howard spent his entire career working on behalf of police
officers, representing them under adverse circumstances, negotiating
contracts to improve officers’ benefits and working conditions, and
training police union officials in the art of leadership. He has written
numerous books and lectured not only in this country but abroad as
well.

His latest book is the fictional autobiography/historical fiction/satire, The Sheltering Palms
