Christmas Countdown Blitz The Ornament Keeper by Eva Marie Everson Day 12

Eva Marie Everson is the bestselling, multiple award-winning author of both fiction and nonfiction. She is the president of Word Weavers International and the director of Florida Christian Writers Conference and the North Georgia Christian Writers Conference.

Eva Marie is a popular speaker at writers conferences and women's groups across the United States.

Award-winning author Eva Marie Everson wraps up a Christmas story of hope, love, and forgiveness just in time for the holidays.

The Ornament Keeper, a contemporary Christmas novella, features Felicia and Jackson Morgan who are spending their first Christmas apart after twenty years of marriage. But a lifetime of gifted ornaments helps Felicia piece together the story of their marriage and the one mistake of unforgiveness she made before they said, “I do.”

Can these memory-filled ornaments reunite this family before Christmas? Only time will tell.

Snippet:

Christmas Season,
1999
Jackson ambled up
beside me, his thickly muscled arms laden with plastic bags of this and that
we’d already purchased. “Leesha,” he said. “Do we need this?”
“Oh,
Jackson,” I breathed out, my fingertips lightly touching her delicate features.
“And look at how sweet the baby Jesus is laying there.”
Jackson
nudged me. “And there’s poor Joseph leaning on his staff,” he teased. “Poor man
doesn’t have a clue what’s hit him.”
I
frowned up at my six-foot-six husband of nearly one year. “Very funny, Jackson
Morgan. And completely sacrilegious. I’m sure he knew.”
“I’m
sure he didn’t.” Jackson raised his arms, the plastic bags coming with them.
“Now, listen. You’ve spent all we can afford to spend right now on these old
bowls,” he said. “And why, I’ll never know.”
I pouted, hoping to get my way with him. If
I’d learned one thing in our brief marriage, it was how to get my way. “They’re
not old. They’re antiques. And think how pretty they’ll look on our cute little
table on Christmas day when we have your mom and my dad over.” I linked my arm
with his and squeezed. “Besides, you can’t get new stuff like this.”
“None
of it matches,” he said, his brow furrowed.
I
kissed his shoulder, then nibbled at it. “It’s called eclectic.”
Jackson
bent down to give me a kiss. “That’s called dirty pool.”
“Does
that mean I can have the nativity set?”
He
kissed me again. “No. It means we can’t afford it, no matter how cute you try
to be.”
I
let out a deep sigh, and stroked the top of the stable. Jackson was right. Our
budget was limited, more than I’d ever dream of before Sara was born. I walked
away. But the crèche found its way under the tree that year, along with the
annual ornament nestled in the toe of my stocking.

Christmas Season
2018
“Oh,
Jackson,” I whispered past the knot in my chest and in the silence of the guest
room as I unwrapped the mother of our Lord. “How you surprised me.”

“So this
is your room?”
I
nodded, hiking my backpack higher on my shoulder. I leaned up against the
doorjamb, watching all the people running up and down the corridor as they
settled into the hotel for the night.
Mack
leaned against the wall, glanced at his phone and tried to stifle a sigh.
“Tired?” I asked.
“Incredibly,”
he said sheepishly.
“Why
didn’t you take a nap this afternoon?” I asked.
“Because…I
wanted to talk to you.”
I
smiled. Mack wore his heart on his sleeve. He was a straight shooter and I
admired that about him. You couldn’t dislike him either. “That’s sweet,” I
said.
“Yeah,”
he said and looked into my eyes. I met his gaze, not wanting to break the magic
of this moment.  “Um, was…would you like
to, you know, see more of each other while you are on tour with us?”
A pit
started in my stomach. I wasn’t sure what I was most scared of. I was scared
that Mack would hurt me emotionally. I was scared of leaving him behind after
the tour was done. Or him using me and leaving me behind.
But most
of all I was scared of falling for him. Scratch that. I had already fallen
hard.
“Yeah,
I’d like that,” I said.
He
leaned into me and I met him halfway.
God, he
was a good kisser.

beauty outraged by his rescue. That’s all Ethan needs for his
expert instincts to kick into high gear . . .

Riley
Jones is back in Beaufort for one reason only: to find her missing
best friend, Hanna. If that means using herself as bait for the kind
of guy who’d prey on a vulnerable young woman, so be it. She
doesn’t need a rugged knight in shining armor like Ethan
distracting her, and she doesn’t want his help. But it turns out
she needs it. And together, as the heat between them rises, so does
the danger. Until both their lives are on the line . . .

Cal
Hart walks a blurred line of honor. The rock-hard former Marine has
his lethal skills at the service of the highest bidder. Until a
contract comes in to kill Lana Vanderpoel, the sultry, charismatic
heiress and billionaire’s daughter. She’s way too sexy to end up
at the wrong end of a silencer. So Cal takes the job—and starts
planning how to get Lana to safety while he unearths who’s behind
the threat . . .
Lana
only knows she’s been kidnapped—and she’ll fight tooth and nail
against whoever has snatched her from her life. Her stern-faced
captor sends a tremor of ice through her veins, yet a thrill lies
beneath her unease. He’s dark and dangerous, his body ripped,
honed, and capable. But lust isn’t the same as trust—and whether
or not she can believe what Cal’s telling her, there’s at least
one person close to Lana who wants her dead . . .

12 Days of Clean Romance - Hayley Wescott

A Snow Globe Christmas by Hayley Wescott

Kelsey Patrick is homesick for the snow and family Christmas tree from her childhood in Connecticut. The holidays are coming and South Florida weather is lovely, but it's not what she wants for Christmas. She's making the best of it, but she expects her Christmas to be un-snowy and lonely.

When she receives a lovely and thoughtful last minute Secret Santa gift from Mrs. Claus, Kelsey's Christmas spirit is revived. When she tries to find the one who gave her the gift under the guise of Mrs. Claus, she makes an assumption that leads her down the wrong path. Brett Taylor is firmly seated in the friend zone and knows Kelsey is making a mistake, but he's in no position to try to change her mind.

Just when both Brett and Kelsey are set to spend their holidays working and alone, a chain of events just might change all that. And maybe Mrs. Claus will see her sweet work behind the scenes bring two love birds together at last.

“Oh, you are still going to be able to make it to my supper party after the gift giving, aren’t you?” Kelsey asked. “I mean, it’s nothing special, just a big tray of lasagna and some appetizers and dessert, of course. And being cramped into my tiny apartment will be an adventure. But, it’s Christmas, and you guys are my Florida family. We’re all working over the festive period, so we need to let our hair down a little, don’t you think?”
“Hey, I’m coming back with you after the gifts to help you get ready. Wouldn’t miss the Patrick festive Christmas lasagna,” Annie said giggling. “Tell me what you need me to bring and I’ll get it while I’m out now. It was the best night of the year, last year.”
“Thank you, that means a lot, Kelsey said, touched at Annie’s compliment. “I think I’m good, though.” She paused. “No, hang on a minute. They didn’t have any heavy cream when I went to the store earlier. Could you see if Nielsen’s has any, if you’re going to be next door at Caspar’s.”
“I can do that. Ooh, I do hope you’re gonna use that cream in your famous cherry trifle. I just love that stuff,” Annie said, not disguising the desire in her voice. Kelsey couldn’t help wondering if she was actually drooling. It made her smile to think her food was so appreciated.
“I might, I might not. It’ll all depend on whether you get me the cream,” she teased.
“Oh, I’ll get you that cream,” Annie vowed. The two women laughed and made their good byes, assuring each other that they’d meet up at work the next day.
Hanging up, Kelsey wondered what it must be like, to be one of those people who left everything to the very last minute. To not have even thought about what you were going to buy someone, the night before that gift was to be given, that would never sit well with Kelsey. Normally her tree would have been up on the very first day of December, and her presents and cards wrapped and delivered across the country a week ago. She absolutely hated that her tree had only gone up today when it was just a week and a half from Christmas. But, because of all the shifts she’d taken at work she didn’t really have much of a choice if she wanted to sleep any. It was done now and her living room sparkled from all the fairy lights as they flashed their bright hues over the glittering tinsel and shiny metallic baubles.
Feeling weary, Kelsey stretched and yawned loudly. Winston looked at her with wide eyes. “Bed time?” she asked him. He ran straight through to the bedroom and began to stake his claim at the end of the bed. He kneaded the mattress with his paws, then settled down, curling his body up into a tight ball, though he left his legs out in front of him, making him look a bit like a furry shrimp.
Kelsey slipped off her shorts and tee shirt and slipped on an old night shirt. It had a very faded Mickey Mouse on it and was so misshapen from all the years of washings that it was barely holding itself together. But it was comfortable on the warm nights here in Florida, and so Kelsey would never part with it.
The sheets were cool as she slipped between them, and it wasn’t long before she had fallen fast asleep. She dreamed of snow falling all around her with fat, heavy flakes landing on her hair and her eyelashes. Wrapped up in a thick coat, with woolen mittens and a hand-knitted scarf and hat she was toasty warm. She twirled around and around, as though she were a ballerina in a music box, turning her face up to the sky and opening her mouth so the snow could land on her tongue, all icy and fresh. It was like Heaven on Earth, and when the alarm sounded Kelsey didn’t want to wake up and face the bright sunshine, or the palm trees, or the sea because there would be no snow again today in Florida.

Wonderful story! The characters are engaging and I love the emphasis on family.

Christmas away from home filled with memories takes the reader on a sweet Christmas adventure with friends and surprises to make for a nice evening read.

The end is such a sweet surprise, I never saw it coming! Very good clean romance.

Guest  Post:
I love special soaps and toiletries and sugar scrubs
are on the top of my list. There are all kinds. Some require special attention,
and others are downright easy. I don’t recommend the traditional oil and sugar,
unless you want to slip and slide, then spend the day cleaning your tub. I
think this one is much better, and the ingredients are easy to find. They make
great gifts too.

Homemade
Glycerin Soap Sugar Scrub Cubes

Once you have all your ingredients together prepare
to work fast.

The first thing you need is a glycerin melt and pour
soap base. Most craft stores carry it. Michael’s now carries some great
detergent-free bases

You’ll also need a skin friendly oil. Fractionated
coconut oil is a great choice and can be found in your supermarket. Sweet
almond oil, avocado or olive oil will work well too. Macadamia is wonderful,
but not as easy to find.

A SKIN SAFE scent and colorant if you want them.
They will be available in the area you find the glycerin soap. Read the label,
they MUST be skin safe. Don’t use candle colorant. Choose a nice fragrance for
the season. Peppermint, pumpkin, cookies, or gingerbread.

Sugar – Sugar can have large or small grains. For
this recipe, I use regular white granulated sugar. For a face soap, I would
probably use brown sugar. For a foot soap, I’d use demerara sugar, because the
granules are larger.

You will also need a mold. No need to run out and
buy one for this recipe however. You can use a silicon mold or ice tray, or a
sanitized milk carton cut to size; the box quarts are pretty perfect. Line it
with saran wrap. You want the mold to give, so you can push the scrub out once
it’s set. If you use the milk carton, you can carefully rip the paper off.

To
make your Sugar Scrub

½
Cup Oil

1
Cup Melt and Pour base

2
Cups plus Sugar

Use
drops or a half teaspoon to get the fragrance you want. Be cautious not to use
more than necessary because even skin safe fragrance can be harsh on your skin.
1 teaspoon per pound of soap base is the limit.

Instructions:
Have your mold ready before you start and remember to work fast.

Melt your soap base on very low heat. A double
boiler is good, or you can microwave it in 30 second pulses. I use 30 seconds to
start and stir. If I need more time, I do 15 second pulses. You don’t want it
to get too hot, because soap can burn.

When the base is completely melted, pour into a
large bowl, add your oil. Mix well.

Add your colorant one drop at a time until you get
the shade you want but use as little as possible; too much colorant can stain
washcloths. Mix well

Add up to a half teaspoon of fragrance. Mix well.

Add your sugar and mix fast; You don’t want it to
harden on you.  You want to pour it as
soon as possible. When it’s incorporated pour it into your mold. If it’s too
thick, spoon it in and press it down.
Once the soap is set. (I’d give it at least a couple
of hours. I leave mine overnight). Carefully remove it from the mold, placing
it onto a plate, or anything oil can’t seep through, because there is always
some oil that seeps out of the soap. Work gently because the scrub will be
crumbly.

Carefully cut it into 1-1 ½ inch squares.

If there is a lot of leftover oil, I cover and leave
it, so it can soak some of that up. There will usually be seeping oil.

Your sugar scrub soap is finished and ready to
package. You can use cellophane wraps or jars, label it, and add trinkets or
bows to the top. Be creative. Just remember to use something the oil can’t seep
through. I also place a note on the label telling people to be careful in the
shower or tub, because oils can make it slippery.

Instructions: Break off a piece from the cube. Scrub
an area until the sugar is gone. Rinse well, and pat dry. It usually takes one
or two cubes per shower.

Have fun with it. Once you’ve tried these, I think
you’ll be addicted.

WARNING:
If someone is allergic to a food product, (Like nuts, avocados, etc.) they will
be allergic to the oils produced by that item as well.
