Holiday of the Heart by Angel Wolfe

Holiday
of the Heart
by
Angel Wolfe
Genre:
Contemporary Romance

Author
Morgan Paige has had more than her share of ups and downs; but can a
long-term affair turn into something more, or will the flame smolder
only to be fanned by a new love?

After
a horrendous Valentine's Day nightmare, and a hot and steamy reunion,
Morgan and Ricky part ways only to have Ricky show up several months
later asking her to wait for him. The problem is, Morgan has already
been waiting for years. How much is too much? Will their romance
survive yet another separation or will someone new fill the aching
hole in her heart?

Angel
Wolfe was born in Muscatine, Iowa and learned to read by the age of
three. When she was five, she moved with her family to northwest New
Mexico where by the time she reached the age of eleven, she began
reading romance novels pilfered from her mother.

In
high school, Angel often sat with the textbook open and a romance
novel sitting inside it. After high school, she began writing stories
in notebooks because she didn't own a typewriter.

Later,
Angel neared completion of her first novel, Damaged Hearts but she
couldn't bring herself to end it (until recently!) Since that time,
she has written four short stories, a contemporary holiday novella, a
historical romance novel, a contemporary novel ,and is nearing
completion on a paranormal romance novel.

When
she's not writing or curled up with a book or watching college
football, Angel loves to go to local dirt tracks and watch racing.
One of her greatest dreams is to find herself listed on the New York
Times bestsellers list.

Angel
still lives in New Mexico with her husband, her son, and her dog, a
little Muppet with teeth, otherwise known as Rusty.

“Have you’ve
seen anything you want to take home with you?” Levi asked.
“Oh, I see
something.” Tanisha purposely let her gaze flow up and down his body to linger
on his midriff. “But you promised not to kiss or fuck me for thirty days,
remember?”
He frowned
wistfully. “I really did, didn’t I?”
“You did.” She
took great pleasure in pointing this out because it was obvious that he now
thought the time frame ridiculous. Same as her.
Wanting to make
him further regret the impetuous decree, she did the most provocative thing she
could think of. While looking him straight in the eyes, she struck a pose with
one hand on a hip. Tilting her head sideways and sending over the most
seductive look possible, she cupped a breast with her opposite hand, using
fingertips to rub the outline of the taut nipple underneath the clinging vinyl.
Then she slowly slid the hand down her body to the front of the ruffled skirt.
Upon reaching the hem, she delved underneath, passing the tip of the middle
finger between the slickened lips of her pussy. Bringing the finger forth,
glistening with wetness, she held it out toward him.
He discreetly
licked his lips, eyes following the finger as she placed it against her own lips
to suck the wetness away.
Withdrawing the
finger and lapsing into a giggle, she raised eyebrows most innocently, asking,
“Still photography next?”
“Your choice,”
he stated in a husky voice. “And don’t do that again. I’m trying to be a
gentleman, remember?”

“Are you sure
you don’t want a little taste for yourself?” She stared deeply into his eyes.
“I’ll give you a little taste if you want?”

About the Author:

Edgy and provocative in his writings, Thomas Briar strives to exalt the virtues of love and lust in every erotic story he creates. To date, he’s written a wide variety in the subgenres of New Adult, Contemporary, Historical, Interracial, and BDSM. He also takes great pride in the fact that he writes the type of erotic stories that twist and turn as the hero and heroine strive wholeheartedly to get exactly what they want from each other.

Which means most of his stories run on the hotter side of the erotica genre with his characters indulging in the type of sex that some would call adventurous. In fact, his descriptive writing style and graphic sex scenes will certainly evoke a reaction.

Hopefully, a positive one, but he’s making no promises. Not everyone likes to be made to feel as if they are present in the scene, surreptitiously watching the eroticism play out right before their very eyes. For, without a doubt, writing scorching hot sex scenes is Thomas’ absolute favorite thing about writing erotica.

Well, that, and making sure his characters end up living happily ever after.

Interview with Thomas Briar
Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?
Well, that’s sort of a hard question to answer concisely. I don’t plot using any conventional methods, and I use only the barest of notes—if any at all. No working backwards from the end of the story. No detailed outline to make sure the story’s packed with twists and turns. None of those things. I simply pick a starting point and go to work. Also, I never know how the story is going to end other than it must have a HEA.
Now, having said all this, my stories always employ twists and turns on the way to that HEA. Most times those twists surprise even me. I think the guy inside me that does all the plotting and hard work of getting the story on the page is always on the job. He knows exactly where the story is going at all times, what he needs the characters to be doing, every surprise twist, even how it’s going to end. All before I start writing. He just doesn’t share those pertinent details with me until it’s absolutely necessary.
For instance, in the beginning of Girly-Girl, Levi and Tanisha first meet when he comes into the bookstore where she works to pick up some erotic books that he’d ordered. Now, I remember intentionally mentioning that the covers of the books were provocative, but I also remember thinking: I’m not going to describe the covers at this point, instead, I’ll find some way to insert the books back into the story at a later point to provide the great reveal.
And guess what? That’s exactly how it worked out. In the best possible way, too. Without me having any idea how I was going to do it at the beginning of the book.
So, I suppose I’m always in control of the story and characters. Or, rather, the guy inside me that’s responsible for delivering a satisfying story always is. I just wish he’d reveal to me how he does it.

Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.
How many erotic books have you read? Only a few? A lot? Either answer’s perfectly fine. There’s no wrong answer. However, do you want to read the exact same type of erotic book that you read last time? Or, would you like to read something a little different? Something that just might broaden your erotic horizons while possibly turning out to be the perfect book for you.
Because I don’t follow any of the popular trends in erotica. Just can’t stand rewriting what everyone else has written to death. And I can’t resist writing about consenting adults in alternative relationships. You probably already know the kind I’m talking about. The sex is always smoking hot and is as much a part of the story as the emotions the characters are feeling are genuinely real and true to life. Furthermore, the characters always know exactly what they want from each other and are prepared to use any means at their disposal to achieve their heart’s most secret desires.
Now that’s true love in a nutshell, isn’t it? Two people finding each other and taking great pleasure in giving the other exactly what they want and need to feel complete. Indeed, that’s breathing rarified air while indulging in the most exquisite intimacy of all.
So, if you’re open-minded, and want to stand inside the scenes with the characters as their love story unfolds, then pick up a copy of Girly-Girl. I assure you that even though the sex is graphic, it’s got emotional depth along with a very satisfying romance at the center of it. Of course, you do like being turned inside out and strung from here to yonder before you get to the HEA, don’t you?

Have you written any other books that are not published?
I’ve always written more than I’ve published. Doesn’t every writer?

Pen or typewriter or computer?
I started out with a pencil. Graduated to a typewriter in time. Eventually bought a word processor. Then my first computer. But all that was many years ago now. Who would have ever thought way back then that publishing would have evolved into what it is today? So much easier to write, edit and publish these days. So many more opportunities to get published too.

Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

I sincerely thank you for supporting my writings.

Can love defeat the greatest temptation ... lust?

In a post-apocalyptic nation where the land of the free is now run under a dictatorship, there is one factor that holds the key to keeping world order—love. The new Regime controls the emotions of the heart. It’s their most vital law. At the age of twenty-one, every citizen is forced into an arranged marriage. The only way to escape the arrangement is to enter the Temptation Trials—a government-sponsored reality TV show where the loyalties of the contestants are tested by Tempters and Temptresses who are impossible to resist.

Catalina enters the Trials as a Temptress in hopes that she can win the funds to save her brother. Sahara’s been ridiculed in the eyes of the public. By being a Temptress, she’ll be able to have a fresh start. The Regime promises that if she fulfills her role on the show they will wipe her slate clean.

The problem is that the Trials are rigged for failure. In all the prior seasons, love’s rival, lust, has proven to be more powerful. No contestant has ever won the Temptation Trials and be allowed to stay with their chosen partner. Lutheran Eminence, the world’s dictator, has shown that he’s the ultimate matchmaker.

As the Temptation Ball approaches, conflict is at an all-time high. Most couples are too hurt by betrayal to reconcile. With the odds stacked against them, Kincade and Tobias try to mend their relationships, hoping that the greater good will prevail.

Attempting to uncover the true meaning of love may cost the contestants more than they bargained for—it may cost their souls.

Sahara tossed and turned. When she finally fell asleep a reoccurring nightmare consumed her….

Sahara had been in a funk all day. The last month had been horrible, not talking to Calvin. He’d tried numerous times to reach out to her. Sahara’s only response through text had been, I just think it’s best if we don’t see each other anymore.
Slowly, his texts and calls lessened, but today Calvin had texted, begging to see her because he would be in town this weekend. Sahara was struggling with giving in, wanting to see him desperately.
She handed a customer their latte, and then greeted the next in line—a male and female enforcer approached the counter.
“Hello, what can I get for you guys?” Sahara greeted.
“Are you Sahara Fenty?” the female officer asked with a stern expression.
            “I am.”
Sahara’s co-worker, Caren, raised her eyebrows.
“What is this about?” Sahara asked, her stomach clenching.
“Sahara Fenty, you’re under arrest for the Floozy charge,” the female enforcer announced, loud enough for the entire cafe to hear.
A few customers gasped, and her co-worker’s eyes were about to pop from their sockets. She wanted the floor to just suck her up. “What is the meaning of this?” Sahara questioned, having a damn good idea. She would bet money it involved her first love.
“Calvin Bush’s wife, Bonnie, is pressing charges against you. She has proof that you and her husband are having an affair.”
More gasps from the cafe. Sahara wanted to die. “What proof does she have?”
“Please don’t make this harder than it has to be, Ms. Fenty,” the male enforcer intervened, wiping out his hand-cuffs.
This was the most humiliating moment of Sahara’s life. Not wanting to cause herself further embarrassment, she cooperated and went with them willingly.

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Cover Design: Andie B.
Release Date: December 12, 2018

Blurb

Knightly
If practice makes perfect, I should excel at pretending that Heath
Miller doesn’t affect me. That I’m immune to that wide jaw, taut body, and the
unique woodsy-aftershave-engine-oil scent that makes my ovaries explode.

Since before I could walk, he’s been my champion. My best friend. The
one problem I can’t solve. Why? If I tell him I love him, I’ll lose him and his
adorable daughter. Maybe the best Christmas gift I can give him—and myself—is
to turn in the keys to my B&B and put some distance between us.

Heath
I’ve made my share of mistakes. Lost my MIT scholarship, came home to
fix cars and romance Kentbury’s female tourists—until I wound up a single
father. For all eight years of Cassie’s life, Knightly’s been my anchor.

I’ve changed. Cassie’s the best part of me, and Knightly’s been there
every step of the way. But as Christmas lays its mantle of magic over Kentbury,
she drops a bomb—she’s following a dream to New York City. I’ve got one week to
do everything, say everything I’ve never dared. To convince my best friend to
be mine—ours—for all the holidays to come.

Prologue
Heath

I hate
surprises almost as much as I hate Sunday brunch at my parents. My family and I
don’t get along. It’s a cliché, but we’re like water and oil. I became
everything they hate and I hate everything they represent. My parents are
judgmental. During my late teens and up until a few months ago, I fucked
around—a lot—in every sense.
Needless to
say, I lost my scholarship to MIT during my sophomore year. The dean called me
irresponsible. My parents wrote me off as a failure until I came back to
Kentbury to take over my uncle’s car repair shop after he died. I try to keep
myself out of trouble and off the town’s radar. I steer away from the women in
town. But I do have fun with the tourists who stay at the lodge. It’s simple.
They’re here for a week or a weekend. Then they’re gone for good.
“But I ran
out of luck,” I sigh and look down.
In the
bouncy chair lies Cassie, my one-month-old baby. The fuss of black hair is
covered by a pink hat. Her arms aloft as if dreaming of cuddling her mother. I
slide my pinky into her open hand and watch as her fingers curl around it. I
feel her soft breath on the back of my hand. Already the tension is melting
away as I watch my sweet little girl sleep in peace. She’s so innocent, she
doesn’t know that our lives have been forever changed again.
“Maybe I
just got lucky,” I whisper close to her ear. “You and I are going to make it
work. I’ll make your proud little one.”
There’s a
slight knock on the door. I kiss her tiny hand before I open it for Knightly.
“That must
be, Knightly, coming to save the day,” I whisper to Cassie and kiss her tiny
hand.
There’s so
much I could tell her about my best friend, but not enough time. I only tell
Cassie what’s important, “She’s going to become your favorite person. We call
her Lee for short.”
When I
swing the door open, I finally relax. Lee’s here.
Her big
brown eyes narrow locking her gaze at me. “I need a big explanation,” she says
handing me the shopping bags she carries with her.
“Hello,
Lee,” I greet her and stare at all the bags she brought as she unzips her blue
parka.
“I got
everything that you asked for,” she says. Bishop is bringing the big items.
What do you need that for?”
Her voice
is neutral, but I know her well. She’s easy to read. The expression on her face
matches her mood. I know when she’s excited about something. I can tell when
she’s tired or cranky. Or, like right now, when she’s upset that I’m keeping
her in the dark. As she takes off all her winter gear and sets her snow boots
on the plastic tray, I close the door avoiding the sight of her body.
I like to
think of Lee Harris as my best friend. One of the boys. She’s the kid who I
hung out with since she could walk. I endless practice not noticing her sweet
curves or the way her long, dark, curly hair cascades over her shoulders once
she takes off her hat. I’m a shitty person and can’t do relationships. I’d
never do anything to jeopardize my relationship with Lee. Ever.
I tilt my
head toward the living room. “Follow me.”
“Oh my God,
did Santa bring me a baby?” She claps once and takes out the tube of hand
sanitizer that she always carries around.
Without
asking, she snaps the belt of the bouncy chair open and takes her into her
arms.
“Hey,
beautiful, welcome to Kentbury. You’re going to love this place.”
Cassie snuggles
closer to Lee who looks beautiful holding my baby. I swallow hard and remind
myself that she’s a friend who deserves a lot more than a guy who sucks at
life.
“You’re not
going to ask anything?”
“The mom
came to the lodge earlier, asking for you.” She sweeps my body with her gaze.
“Tall, dark hair, light blue eyes and was friends with the Lodge’s owner.”
Lee rolls
her eyes and sighs.
“You and
Kingston need to stop sleeping around or…” Lee touches her mouth lightly with
the tips of her fingers. “Oops, it happened.”
“You
could’ve warned me.” I grit my teeth.
“I
could’ve.” She shrugs. “Maybe next time.”
I glare at
her. She’s not funny but I don’t have the energy to deal with her banter.
Though, maybe she doesn’t have much energy either because she’s not as witty as
usual.
“How are
you handling the news?” She asks with a serious tone, though her gaze remains
on Cassie.
“I’m
dealing, I guess,” I close my eyes briefly taking a deep breath. “Can you
picture me as a father?”
I gesture
to myself, showing her the hot mess that I am. Then, point to the
apartment I live in which is above the car shop.
“I’m a
fucked-up guy who can’t finish anything. I can’t even get along with my
parents. What am I supposed to do with a baby?”
“Love her,”
she answers.
“You should
give yourself some credit, Heath. She has the best dad in the world, and you
two have me and my family.”
I smile at
her and say the obvious, “I can always count on you.”
Lee studies
Cassie. She smiles at her, but her face looks a little saddened. Her brown eyes
are slightly red and watery. Was she crying? I’m sure it’s nothing. Later, when
I’m not busy with my baby I’ll ask her what’s wrong. In the meantime, I have to
learn how to be a dad.
Maybe I can
find a book on how to be a father online. It worked with the car shop, and so
far, I’ve managed it well enough.
