Author Bio

Melissa Keir has always wanted to be an author when she wasn’t hoping
for a career as a racecar driver. Her love of books was instilled by her mother
and grandparents who were avid readers. She’d often sneak books away from them
so that she could fantasize about those strong alpha males and plucky heroines.

Melissa doesn’t believe in down time. She’s always keeping busy.

Excerpt 2:

Ben went to his room and Tanya came to mine,  As soon as we sat on my bed, my phone dinged.

What’s the weather like?

“What does she want?” Tanya asked.  She was staring at her own phone.

“She wants to know the weather.”  I looked up at her.  “How did you know it was Chloe?”

“Nolan doesn’t text you.” Tanya shrugged.  She kept her eyes on her phone.  “Nine out of ten of your texts are Chloe.  You need more friends.”

It’s hot.  We’re in a desert.

What should I wear for our night out?

“She wants to know what to wear for our night out.”

“I’m not even sure what we’re going to do for that.  I’ve asked my assistant to give us three bars and three restaurants.”

“Do they have karaoke?” 

“The bars do.”  

“Then Chloe will be happy.”

We’re going to do karaoke.  So sparkle.

I’m getting ideas.  I’ll bring feathers.

“I invited Ben,” I said and texted at the same time.

What?????

Tanya looked up.  “Why?”

“I’m setting him up with Chloe.”

I’m setting him up with you, remember.

This is girl time.

“I thought this was just the three of us,” Tanya said.

“It just sort of happened.”  I kept my eyes on my phone.

He could fit in.  You’ll like him.

“How would it just sort of happen?” Tanya asked.

“Talking to you now, it sounds weird.  But it wasn’t at the moment and I'm setting him up with Chloe,” I said.

“Why are you setting him up with Chloe when you like him?”

I’m not sure I’ll like him if he fits in.  I like men who don’t remind me of my girlfriends.

You’re too picky.

“Stop texting and talk to me.”

“I’m married.”  I still didn’t look up.

“We’ve had this conversation before.  You've had a huge crush on him since college, and it can’t make you feel good to think that he's going to hook up with Chloe.”

“He may not,” I said, still staring at my phone.

“I thought that was the purpose of having him meet Chloe.”

I like meat loaf men.

I think that’s the wrong metaphor.

I want a hunk a hung of burning love.

Crap.  Hunk a hunk.  Unless you’re doing a Freudian interp.

“You like him and that’s okay.  Even the perfect marriages need some intrigue.”

“And how would a college crush do that?” I asked.

“A guy thinks you’re cute.  There’s nothing wrong with that,” Tanya said.

“I’m not sure he thinks I’m cute.”

“You’re the only one he gives rides to.”

“I will admit, he likes me as a friend, but I’m a very friendly person.”

“I don’t think this will help your friendship with Chloe.”  

I looked up at her, finally.  She looked concerned.  “So I should hook up with Ben?”

“Of course not.  But Chloe isn’t a good solution.”

I liked texting better than talking.  There wasn’t a look of concern coming from my phone.

Talking to Tanya.  Both of you don’t want Ben there.

So uninvite.

That may be tricky.

I believe in you.

I hate you both.

Then this weekend should be a blast.

Out of his close proximity, she released a held-in breath and entered the room. Inside, she realised she hadn’t even thanked him, so as she turned back, she found he hadn’t quite stepped away either, and their faces were millimetres apart. The silence persisted, as his smouldering eyes captivated her while her knees locked for a moment too long, before she stepped back.

“Uhm, thank you and goodnight. I seemed to have momentarily lost my manners,” she managed to say.

“Yeah, same to you,” he casually countered, which had her feeling disappointed, as she had hoped he also felt that electric buzz between them, but it clearly hadn’t affected him in the same way. His footfalls headed toward his room and then they stopped.

She peeked around the corner of the doorjamb and saw him look back over his shoulder. Her breath caught at the stark picture it painted, while nothing but the fear of consequences kept her from running after him.

“Just once?” he softly asked.

She took a steadying breath, knowing exactly what he meant. “Yes.”

He turned around with need in his eyes, while she rushed out of the room and met him halfway, with her arms already stretched out.

The collision of their bodies echoed in their lips finding each other’s, while his arms encircled her. The frenzied feelings burst into chaos as she felt his tongue slither over her lower lip before he nipped at the flesh.

A yearning mewl escaped her, and the little space left between them was closed as he lifted her up and she crossed her legs around his hips. Pressing her up against the wall, their tongues danced along with their bodies as he steadily ground his hard member against her sex.

Whatever this was meant to be, she’d rather not think about, but in a few seconds of clarity, she knew this went against the code of conduct for Salexis and her personal morals, so she pushed him away.

With a sense of wonder, Jenna realized that her heart wanted him as much as her body did. There were no warning bells, no voice of caution hissing in her ear. There was only Griff and the moonlight.

He laid down beside her, brushed the long hairs away from her face, and gazed down at her with the same awed wonder she felt. “Sweet girl, what have you done to me, hmm?”

Jenna smiled and raised her hand to his face. It was small against his warm, rough cheek and tickled her palm when he nuzzled against it. She giggled and said, ‘Oh, what have you done to me, old man?”

He gave her a look of mock indignation, then winked as he said, “I’ll show you old man,” just before he kissed her and rolled her on top of him.

They made slow, unhurried love under the stars and moon, exploring each other’s bodies with lips, tongues, and hands. They whispered sweet words against one another’s skin and held on tightly in the most profound throes of passion. Then, in the pre-dawn hours, they ran back to the estate and into Jenna’s guesthouse, where they fell into bed. She curled against Griff and slept soundly for the first time in years.
