I was never one of those guys who bought into all that love at first sight bullsh*t.
I was all about getting in. Getting out.
No feelings. No expectations.
No complications … until her.

After just one night, Reece Winters had me thinking of white picket fences and station wagons, but I let my pride get come between us and she walked away.

Trouble was on the horizon.
It was only a matter of time before it came knocking at our door. The club was planning for it. Ready for it. Prepared for it, and so was I.

I wasn’t prepared for fate to bring her back into my life, and I certainly wasn’t prepared for the secrets that she brought with her- secrets that would connect us in ways I couldn’t begin to imagine.

Secrets that could destroy us all.

Leslie Wilder grew up in a small town in West Tennessee. A country girl at heart, she’s always thought that life is too short, but she had no idea how short it really was until her brother passed away in 2014. She’s always been an avid reader, loving the escape only a great book can give, and wondered if she had what it took to write one of the wild romances she’d come to adore. With the support of her family and friends, she published Inferno: A Devil Chaser’s MC, one year after her brother’s death. With him in mind, she fulfilled her lifetime dream of writing. Since then, she’s completed the Devil Chaser’s Series and continued on with the Satan’s Fury MC Series. She has so many stories in her head, and can’t wait to share each and every one.
Leslie has been blown away by the support of her readers, appreciating every message, review, and encouraging word she’s received over the past year. She looks forward to continuing this journey with them for years to come.

“You can quit waiting for the other shoe to drop: I’m in it for life.” Those are the fateful, repeated words that help convince Kathryn Taylor to remarry, retire from her thirty-year profession, sell her home, and relocate in support of her new husband’s career. But five years later, in a car packed with food she has carefully prepared to nourish her husband’s dying brother, the other shoe does drop. Taylor’s husband unexpectedly proclaims he is, “done with the marriage and doesn’t want to talk about it.”

With this, the life Taylor has come to know is over. Relying on the strength of a lifelong friend who refuses to let her succumb to the intense waves of grief, she slowly begins to find her way out of the shadows. Over the course of two years, through appointments with attorneys and therapists, purging shared belongings, and pushing herself to meet new people and do new things, Taylor not only regains a sense of control in her life, she also learns to enjoy the new life she has built, the friendships she’s formed—and to savor her newfound strength.

When Taylor’s husband unexpectedly proclaims he is, “done with the marriage and doesn’t want to talk about it,” the life Taylor has come to know is over. Will she succumb to her grief or eventually triumph?

Praise for Two Minus One: A Memoir

“There are times in life when we are presented with unforeseen challenges that feel so overwhelming, we just want to shut down and hide. In those moments we have a choice, to go towards the light or stay in the darkness. Kathryn shows us her deepest sadness, and her heroic struggle to get her life back. Her book shows how she recognized that there is life after grief and suffering,  and to remember that happiness is always a choice, one we DO have control of.” – Jennifer Pate Gilbert, founder of Save the Date® and author of I Never Promised You a Goodie Bag

“… Kathryn Taylor opens her heart and soul to take us on her journey of recovery. With resilience and grace, she reminds us that, no matter what life throws your way, you can reach down and bring up the courage to not only go on, but grow.” – Vikki Stark, Author of Runaway Husbands: The Abandoned Wife’s Guide to Recovery and Renewal

“Taylor offers a poignant and well-crafted account of what it is like to be sixty-years-old, believing you are happily married one day, only to discover the next, having missed all of the clues, that you’ve been abandoned. This is certainly a story that demonstrates the powerful ways in which  – love is blind – . This is a human story, one of vulnerability, insight and resilience…highly recommended.” – Diane Pomerantz, PhD, author of Lost in the Reflecting Pool

“Taylor’s book is a gift to anyone who is divorced and feeling hopeless because she illustrates, through her own story of suffering, disillusionment and eventual triumph, that divorce is not the end. I highly recommend that anyone who is divorced and feeling alone in their fight to survive read Two Minus One to gain encouragement, clarity and hope.” – Lisa Duffy, Author, Speaker and Divorce Recovery Coach

About the Author

photo Two Minus One Author Kathryn Taylor_zpsw6hewnok.jpg

Kathryn Taylor was born at the Great Lakes Naval Station near Chicago, Illinois and spent much of her life in the Chicagoland area. When she entered first grade, reading came easily to Taylor. Decades before terms such as “peer tutoring” and “collaborative learning” had been coined, her teacher had an inspiring idea. She would allow Kathryn to assist classmates struggling to decode those pesky letter combinations and help them learn to read. Taylor experienced an undeniable sense of fulfillment helping her classmates and licking gold stars onto completed pages. The desire to become a teacher took root. Taylor enjoyed thirty years in the classroom and had taught in the schools of Illinois, California, and Virginia before her retirement and relocation to South Carolina. It was there where Taylor wrote her book, Two Minus One: A Memoir following the unexpected abandonment by her second husband. Taylor is an avid reader, enthusiastic traveler, and incurable beach lover. She resides outside of Charleston, SC, with her rescue dog, Lucy, where she can enjoy all three of her favorite past times.

Author Julie Berry Interviews Protagonist Maeve Merritt

  1. So, Miss Maeve Merritt, why did your parents send you to Miss Salamanca’s School for Upright Young Ladies, instead of educating you at home?

Mother said she can’t bear the nightmare of hiring and training another governess for me, nor persuading her to stay after I’d snuck out to play cricket with the village boys once too many times. She thinks my name is on a governess’s blacklist somewhere. Miss Salamanca’s reputation for taming unmanageable girls was music to Mother’s ears.
  1. And what exactly were you doing at Miss Salamanca’s School when you found your wish-granting djinni?
If you must know, I’d been sentenced to garbage duty for two days. I was sorting through the dustbins, separating tin from rubbish.
  1. I see … is this normal behavior for students at Miss Salamanca’s School?
No.
  1. Were you under some sort of punishment?
Only because I’d socked nasty Theresa Treazleton in the eye. And only because she deserved it, and worse. Really, I went easy on her.
  1. I suppose, if garbage duty led you to an all-powerful djinni, you made out handsomely in this transaction.
Then you don’t know much at all. A djinni’s proven harder to keep track of than a rabid mongoose.
  1. Why would anyone want to keep track of a rabid mongoose?
Wouldn’t you rather know where it is than wonder where it’s hiding?
  1. I suppose so. Are you sorry you found the djinni, then?
Who, Mermeros? No, I’m glad I found him. It’s been an education. More than I’d ever have gotten at school. I just wish I’d been able to keep him better hidden from so many rascals and villains. Beating them off at every turn was the hard part. The wishes themselves were pretty spectacular.
  1. Did you get your wishes granted, then?
That’s cheating. You’ll have to listen to my story to find out.

“Pssst. Pssst,” Regina said, waving a folded piece of paper under her desk. Through the classroom window, the early morning sun turned her hair to gold, as if she wore a halo. It should have given her horns instead. Tony looked at Regina. Why was she giving him a note? He ignored her.

“Come on, take it,” she whispered, pushing the note toward him.

He reached over and took the note. Tony unfolded it and read, MR. BRUNSWICK IS A JERK!

Tony glared at Regina. She gave him an innocent smile and raised her chubby hand.

“Mr. Brunswick. Tony’s passing notes,” she said.

“Tony, let me see the note.” Mr. Brunswick placed a math book down on his desk.

Tony stiffened and clenched his fists. He could feel his face turning red. “But I didn’t…” Tony was afraid to say that Regina wrote the note. Who knew what she might do to him? But he didn’t want Mr. Brunswick to think he didn’t like him. Frustrated, he bit his lip and fidgeted in his chair.

“Just bring it here, please.”

“Yes, sir.”

He brought the note up to Mr. Brunswick. Tony plunged his fists deep into his pockets and glared at Regina. Mr. Brunswick looked puzzled as he read the note.

“Tony, I’m surprised at you.” He frowned. “I want to talk to you after school.”

Tony nodded his head in agreement and hurried back to his desk. He slid into his seat. Regina smiled at him with folded hands, looking innocent as an angel.
