A
Chateau Jolie Romance #1

by
Heather McGovern

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Pub
Date: 10/30/2018

In
the quaint mountain town of Windamere, North Carolina, the three
Sargent sisters are determined to make their hotel and winery,
Chateau Jolie, a success. And one by one, they’re finding that
nothing pairs better with new beginnings than unexpected love…
The downside of living
in a charming small town is that it’s impossible for Brooke Sargent
to avoid anyone. Especially someone as big, handsome, and friendly as
Trevor Bradley. At his brother’s wedding, they flirted and
danced…before Brooke recalled that she’s not ready to trust any
man after her divorce, let alone one who’s the competition. Her
family’s struggling chateau is planning to host the local senior
prom—without the Bradley family’s renowned Honeywilde Inn
muscling in and stealing the glory.
Trevor has thought of
no one else since the night he and Brooke connected. Even though she
shot him down—hard—he’s seen the warmth beneath her guarded
facade. Working together, they could give the high school students a
spectacular prom. Navigating the rough terrain of Brooke’s
business, while proving himself to his own siblings, won’t be easy.
But Trevor loves a challenge—especially one that could win him the
woman he can’t stop wanting . . .

Star Spangled Second Chance by Christie Logan

Star Spangled Second Chance by Christie Logan

They were best friends before he left town without a word. Now he's back. Will her heart be broken again?

Good girl Portia Phillips always followed the rules, colored inside the lines and walked the straight and narrow. Only her best friend Raymond Alessio could ever get her to quit being "perfect Portia" for a minute and take a risk.

Portia fell in love with Raymond way back in fourth grade. That love only grew stronger as years passed, but she kept it hidden, until one Fourth of July when she finally had the courage to share her feelings.

That was the night he broke her heart. Since then she's kept it safe, under lock and key.

Now, eight years later, he's back in town with his young daughter. His life's a mess, but his love for Portia never changed. Can Raymond convince her to give him another chance? Will Portia find the courage to risk her heart a second time?

Excerpt 2:
Portia stood with Raymond on Lake Verona's shore and looked out at the smooth surface of the water. "Remember the last time we were here?" he asked.

"Sure I do. You showed me how to skip stones." She picked up one of the small stones at her feet and flung it out, frowning as it landed with an ungainly plop. "Guess I lost the knack."

"It wasn't flat enough." Raymond selected another stone and handed it to her. "Try this one."

As she pulled back her arm to fling the stone, he stepped behind her and gently held her arm to guide her aim. "This way. And don't forget the little flick of the wrist just before you let go."

His touch made her feel warm and safe. Protected. She wanted to sink into his arms even though her brain told her to watch her step.

With Raymond guiding her she tossed the stone, adding the wrist flick, and watched it skim the water's surface one, two, three times before disappearing.

She laughed in delight and cried, "Did you see that?" Turning in his arms, she expected to find him grinning back at her. Instead his face was serious. Her smile faded as she gazed up at him. "Raymond?"

His arms closed around her and pulled her toward him.

Praise for Star Spangled Second Chance

This sweet, clean, contemporary romance is well written. I love the way the author used flashbacks to fill in the history of the couples previous relationship and things that happened to it. The characters are so likable. I look forward to reading the rest of the Holidays in Applewood series.

Wow, what a second chance story!

If you love this genre this is a must read

Excerpt

“What are you willing to give me?” Because I want it all.
“I’m undecided.” I hate the look on his face. It’s fear,
he’s afraid I’ll hurt him again.
“So just tell me to stop when I cross a line. I’ll only go
as far as you trust me to go. Deal.” He nods his head hesitantly as my hand
finds the top button of his shirt, I undo it slowly making my way to each
before his shirt is completely undone. I only stop to briefly trace the tattoo
on his chest. God, I missed this body. His twelve pack casts a heavy shadow
from beneath the shirt and I run my fingers over his rock-hard stomach and up
to his chest, leaning in to kiss the tattooed area.
“This okay?” I ask from pressed lips against his chest
pulling back to look into his eyes.
“Fucking you isn’t my problem. It’s what to do with you
after.” Smacking his drink down on the bar top he puts his hands on my waist,
walking me backward away from the bar and then jerks me forward eliciting a
surprised yelp as I’m hoisted over his shoulder. “See that’s the problem”
bringing his hand down on my ass hard, “The way I see it, this is all you get.
I’ll give you my cock but that’s it. That’s the only deal I’ll make with you.
Take it or leave it.” It’s a start.
Without a hesitation I whisper, “Take it. But it won’t be
enough.” He places me back on my feet and looks me up and down, his expression
mirrors my own frustration.
“I hate that fucking outfit. I want you naked. Now.” His
words leave little room for debate.
“What? What's wrong with my outfit?” I look at him like he’s
lost his mind.
“It restricts access...” crossing his arms he grins, waiting
for me to disrobe.
“I’m not taking off my clothes in the middle of this room.”
He has lost his mind.
“We’re alone and last I checked it’s a fucking sex club.
Take your goddamn clothes off so I can bury my dick inside that tight wet
pussy, Drew.”
I’m fucking dripping the minute he growls at me but I take
all the time in the world, slipping off each shoulder giving my tyrant his own
private show. The more time I take the more his jaw tenses. God, I love riling
this man up.
“You realize the longer you take the harsher the punishment.
I will take out every one of the seconds, on that ass tonight.”
“Promises, promises.” I challenge back. He grabs his cock
adjusting the bulge, groaning with the motion.
“You have ten seconds to get it off then I’m ripping it off
myself.” His demeanor couldn’t be more serious. He will tear this very expensive,
amazing outfit off my body without so much as a second thought.
“Ten.” I start on one of my heels unhitching the ankle
strap.
“Nine.” finishing, I move to the other.
“Eight.” The strap around my ankle gets stuck as I start to
panic. I’m never going to make it. Fuck! I'm so hot, I don't know which outcome
I want more. His punishment or my victory.
“Seven.” Fuck it, I rip it off my foot and pull down my
right shoulder strap starting to shimmy.
“Six.” I start looking around the room, “Five.” I scope out
where I could go to buy some more time. “Four.” I love this outfit.
“Three.” Son-of-a-bitch.
“Two.” Struggling with the zipper it finally comes loose and
I push my jumpsuit down to my ankles.
“One.”

One touch
from her and he’d lost focus again.
This wasn’t
how this was supposed to happen. He’d been with her for less than an hour and
already he was struggling to keep his shit together and had put her in danger.
As tempting as she was, he had to remain fixed on his original path. He
couldn’t allow this force between them to win. Because this wasn’t for him. He
couldn’t keep her.
“We have to
leave,” he said before putting even more space between them. Keeping his head
straight was getting more and more difficult around Eve. He needed to conduct
the rest of this mission as he always did—with cold efficiency.
She nodded
and went back to biting her damn bottom lip.
He tore his
eyes from her, not sure how to handle this, any of it. How was he going to
explain what she was to him? How did you tell someone they were the key to your
salvation, your only hope? That your future and that of the free world depended
on her leaving everything she’d ever known and accepting him as her mate.
A mate who
would leave as soon as he’d taken what he wanted.
A mate who
could never love her.
That it was
for the best because he would never, not in a million years, be worthy of her.
Eve would
not be another sacrifice to this war. And that’s what would happen if he kept
her. If he allowed her to get close.
People who
got close to him suffered for it. They got hurt.
He’d do
whatever it took to prevent that from happening again.
He glanced
over at her. Keeping his shit tight wasn’t going to be easy. Besides having to
deal with his overwhelming physical attraction to her, he feared his possession
was moving at a faster rate. Time was almost up, and he had to find a way to
explain the reason he’d come for her without sending her running.
What if
she refuses you?
He couldn’t
think about that now. Getting her to safety had to be his number one priority.
The shadows had crept in earlier, the darkness trying to take another piece of
his soul. Eve had seen it, the difference in his eyes as he fought to restrain
his demon. He just had to hold off for a bit longer.
And hope
like hell she’d accept him.

Little Meditations are poems dedicated to those moments when feelings are clustered, those moments when the breathe is slow and deep, those moments when thoughts just pass by, those moments when waiting is the only option, those moments when let go comes with a tear and a smile, those moments when the feelings take over and do not make sense. These poems are from the journey between those moments and hoping you may drift away into few moments of transcendence without an artificial pressure to find meaning or purpose. You are here to heal yourself.

Prologue

Nepal, 1981

Himalayas

The sky cleared briefly before daybreak. The sharp bitter winds eased somewhat, but the negative forty-degree temperatures penetrated to the bone. Hiram McDowell lifted the flap of a one-man tent to look in on Erick Woolf, who turned his head, his beard tinged in frost-white from his labored breathing; Woolf lifted his goggles, his pale blue eyes opaque with fatigue.

            “You ready?” Hiram asked.

Woolf shook his head “no,” trying to smile but his face remained motionless.

Hiram took off his outer gloves, freed up an oxygen tank from Woolf ’s backpack, and placed the mask on Woolf ’s face. Woolf rallied after a few minutes of oxygen.

Within half an hour, with four other climbers, Hiram and Woolf started for the summit. Woolf ’s fatigue slowed progress and after an hour they soon fell behind the others. The wind gusts increased. Woolf sank into a sitting position a few yards from a slope of snow and ice.

Hiram steadied himself on a steep vertical. For a few seconds, the visibility improved, but he saw no one.

“Go,” Woolf called to him, his voice husky dry. “I can’t do it.”

With only slight hesitation, Hiram waved his agreement. He had only two hours or less to summit before their oxygen supply ran low. And Woolf was too weak to go on; the rest would strengthen him. At the summit, Hiram took photos and, for a few minutes, absorbed the satisfaction of his achievement and the awe of the view from the highest point on earth.

Winds picked up and snow and haze decreased visibility as he began his descent. He pressed on. After an hour, he stumbled onto Woolf a few feet from where he had left him.

“Get up,” Hiram yelled over the howling wind.

“Help me. In the name of God,” Woolf pleaded.

Hiram gripped Woolf ’s parka to help him stand, but Hiram was too weak to lift, and Woolf fell back.

“Rescue,” Woolf moaned, drifting off into semi-consciousness. Rescue from base camp was impossible until the weather improved. And they were in the dead zone, too high for helicopters.

Hiram freed Woolf ’s remaining oxygen supply and attached it to his own pack.

“Don’t leave me, Hiram.” Woolf coughed.

Hiram backed away and started down. Climbing ropes aided him for a few hundred yards. Near a rock crevice familiar to him, he stumbled on the half-buried lifeless body of a facedown climber. A candy bar and water were in the inner jacket pocket. Near the corpse’s outstretched arm, a glint of silver stopped Hiram. From hard snow and the ice-solid fabric of a frozen glove-hand, he freed a silver crucifix that he pocketed for identification and to send to family. He plodded ahead. The storm abated and he felt the muted exhilaration at knowing he would not die.

On return home after his miracle survival, Hiram dreamed of immortality. He determined to climb every peak above 8000 meters in Nepal.
