Power by Andi Jaxon & AJ Alexander

Title: Power
Series: SEAL'ed #4
Author: Andi Jaxon and AJ Alexander
Genre: Contemporary/Military Romance
Release Date: November 1, 2018

Layla is one of the most powerful women on the west coast, in every aspect of her life. Until one business trip leaves her with a 150 pound lapdog intent on pleasing her.

Danny has never had any direction, was more of a follower, than a leader. He was constantly the butt of jokes and never knew how to keep his mouth shut, until the day his Aphrodite crashed into his life.

One wielded all the power, while the other was desperate to prove their worth. Only time with tell which one will win when the roles are reversed.

Raised all over the country, I'm a interesting mix of East Coast meets West Coast with a little bit of Southern thrown in, just for good measure. I married a sexy man in uniform who let me spawn and am now raising a mutinous army of hell raisers that I created myself, all while he defends our country. I drink too much coffee until it's late enough to drink too much wine and am sexually frustrated for your freedom. If you see me online, I'm probably sitting in a closet, hiding from my kids.

Fluent in sarcasm, Supernatural, and song lyrics, I like talking to people and finding what makes them tick, though that probably has to do with the Psychology degree. I’m up before the sun because my kids don’t sleep, chugging tea and coffee to keep my eyes open and my brain semi functional. Being married to a man in uniform means I’ve lived a lot of places, survived seeing my husband for half the amount of time I’ve been married, and spent a lot of time raising my kids alone.

I love to write messed up psychos with lots of angst, happily ever afters that have to be worked for. Women with sass and backbone, men with a twisted hero complex and the need to control are my favorite to read as well as write.

Life had always been good to me, and I made sure to keep it that way.
My mom had given me the only tool I’d need to succeed—manipulation. Add to that
the fact I was beautiful, confident, and rich, and I was on my way to having it
all.

My name is Annabelle, and I was the stereotypical head cheerleader,
dating the star quarterback. The school was mine, and I couldn’t wait to be
crowned prom queen.

One night, my world changed forever. All I believed my future would
hold was ripped from my grasp in a ball of flames. I lost my identity, my
boyfriend, and my friends. Suddenly, I was the monster nobody wanted around.

A scarf hid my true identity, and I was left staring at the beast in
the mirror. My appearance now matched the ugliness I once had inside, but I’d
do everything I could to prove I still had some beauty buried deep within.

Sometimes, you have to lose who you are to become who you were meant to
be.

decade since Elle Sloan last saw Luke Hutchins. Close to ten years since she
broke up with him over a single phone call, providing him with little
explanation. Since the end of their relationship, Elle has done everything she
could do to move on, marrying, proceeding forward with her life, almost
allowing herself to completely forget about Luke.

Almost.

Out of nowhere, Elle receives a phone call from Luke’s mother. Luke has been in
a horrific car accident and, a month later, has just awoken from a coma.
However, instead of celebrating, his family is stunned to learn that Luke is
suffering from amnesia and only remembers his life as it was before his breakup
with Elle. Not wanting to tell Luke that he and Elle aren’t together anymore
for fear it may compromise his recovery, Elle is asked by Luke’s family to come
to the hospital to see him. Their hope is that she will slowly be able to jog
his memory and cushion the blow.

Guilt-ridden over how their relationship ended, Elle readily agrees, finding
herself transported back in time with Luke to the life they once shared and the

Excerpt

“He’s been
staring at you since we sat down. He’s trying not to be obvious about it, but I
see him. I’ve got his number,” Mena spoke softly from across our table. Her
eyes had been just as glued to the screen of her laptop, as mine had been to my
own. It was beyond me how in the world she could have noticed anything outside
of the Word document on the screen in front of her.

“Are you
sure it’s me he’s looking at? You haven’t turned your head once since we’ve
been here, not even when giving the waiter your order … which was kind of rude,
I may add.”

“I have a
paper due tomorrow and no time for pleasantries, and I don’t have to turn my
head to see anything; my screen may as well double as a mirror with the way
it’s reflecting everything in this horrendous lighting.”

“It beats
sitting in our dorm room, listening to Bruce Springsteen on your iPod all
evening,” I muttered. Curious, I tried to see over Mena’s chestnut brown hair,
casually craning my head upward and then quickly looking back down again for
fear of being caught.

“Keep that
up and he’ll think you’re having a seizure,” she quipped. “Give me a second and
I’ll bend down and act like I’m tying my shoe. You’ll get an unobstructed view
of him, then.”

“Mena, for
god’s sake, you’re wearing boots.”

“He doesn’t
know that.”

“How do you
know he’s looking at me? It could be you he fancies.”

“Fancy? I
thought we were in some dive coffee shop on the east side, not in a quaint café
in some storybook English parish.”

“Blow me.”

“That’s
more like it.”

Mena’s
finger made a final swipe across the touch pad on her keyboard, as she saved
the paper she’d been feverishly working on for the better part of the last
three days. Paper safely tucked away on her hard drive, her big, brown eyes
glanced up at me for the first time since we’d been seated. “I know it’s you
he’s interested in because, as you’ll recall, I was walking behind you when we
came in. Elle, when he saw you, it was like one of those scenes out of every
corny ass romantic comedy I’ve ever seen … you know, the one where time stands
still the moment the love interest walks into the room in slow motion to the
tune of some even cheesier eighties song playing in the background. That’s how
he was looking at you, not me. As far as I’m concerned, he’s probably
cursing my mother for my conception right now, since I’m the only thing
standing in his way of getting an unobstructed view of you.” She took a sip of
her frappuccino, pursing her lips and narrowing her eyes in disgust as she set
the cup back down. “The next time you want to drag me out of our dorm, I’m
choosing the venue.”

“At least
I’ll have until when hell freezes over before I have to worry about that.”

Mena rolled
her eyes, backing her stool away from the table. “Show time,” she said as she
bent down to inspect her lace-less boot.

I waited a
few seconds before I allowed myself to look, trying not to appear overeager or
make what we were really doing all too obvious to whomever it was I was trying
to see. Truth be told, I hadn’t noticed much when we walked in, instead keeping
my eyes focused on the small table in the corner of the shop where we were now
sitting; the perfect spot to be alone, yet among the Roanoke social scene at
the same time. After the passing of a respectable amount of time, and finding
myself unable to hold back any longer, I allowed my eyes to wander to the table
situated twenty feet behind Mena.

“Well?” she
asked.

“There’s
like a half dozen guys, all staring at either textbooks or laptops sitting at
that table. Which one am I supposed to be noticing ogling me?”

“The blond
one, third one from the end, closest to the door. Hurry up, I’m starting to get
a neck cramp.”

I glanced
back up at the table full of our college-aged peers again, a little more
obvious about it this time than before. If I’d had any doubts about the
identity of the blond Mena had wanted me to find, they were quickly erased
when, the second I found him, he found me, too. Everything told me to divert my
attention elsewhere, not to make it obvious that I was staring back at him, but
once my eyes caught a glimpse of his face, there was no turning away, despite
my better judgment.

His blond
hair was thick, bordering on shaggy, even though it was obvious from the way he
was dressed and seemed to carry himself that he probably had painstakingly
attempted to groom it before going out. It reminded me of my own unruly locks
before I cut them to their length just above my shoulders, making them easier
to maintain. Even more striking, though, were his eyes. Set in a round,
cherubic, face were two azure orbs that stood out so vividly they couldn’t help
but take your breath away. Eyes that commanded your attention, that begged you
not to look at anything else. I didn’t look away, and neither did he. His blue
eyes met my hazel eyes and they remained locked in a shameless tryst that
wouldn’t—perhaps, couldn’t—be broken by either of us.

Together they also learn how to conquer their biggest fear and replace worry with wonder.

The story is uplifting and often humorous while symbolizing hope. It will make readers of all ages laugh, cry, and remember their own childhood and the relationships and events that influenced who they have become. The goal of this story is to help children through health crises in their family. The illustrator, editor and designer donated their time to help with the project in order to make possible the donation of copies of the book to waiting rooms of cancer clinics.

Haunted Halloween Spooktacular Tour for Warlock Holmes Books 1-3 by G.S. Denning

DIY Costume Idea

Need something unique for Halloween? Want something memorable and fun for that special party? Do what I did…

Step 1: buy a greatcoat. Go on. You know you want to. Everyone looks seriously bad-ass in a greatcoat. I found mine used at Value Village for forty bucks. Worth. Every. Penny.

Step 2: Go on ebay and buy a Sherlock Holmes hat. For those of you with an ounce of class, they are called deerstalkers. Then again, if you’re all classy and stuff, you already knew that, didn’t you? Make sure it’s at least two sizes too big for your head.

Step 3: Go on eBay again and buy a set of real-life, disembodied, resin-dipped goat horns. Yes. eBay has them. Why? Because… Um… Because eBay, that’s why!

Step 4: go to Home Depot and pick up a sheet of fiberglass cloth, some epoxy, and some 1 ¼ inch wallboard screws. Now, go home and grab a sheet of construction paper and your stapler.

Step 5. Make a construction paper strip and staple it into a loop that fits around your head. Now make an arch that goes over the top of your head. Now mix up some epoxy, cut some fiberglass strips and cover the construction paper frame in epoxied fiberglass to make a rigid shell that fits over your head. Do not keep your head inside the construction paper frame while you do this. If you do, make sure to point out to the emergency-room doctor that G. S. Denning totally told you something horrible would happen, but you just didn’t listen. Spend all the time while they chip your head out of its new-made glue tomb reflecting on the inadvisability of ignoring sage advice from well-meaning authors. Shame on you.

Step 6: Hover around the mailbox each day until your disembodied goat-horns arrive. Make sure to tell all your neighbors this is exactly what you are doing. Oh my God, the world will wonder, what is wrong with you?

Step 7: Got your disembodied goat horns? Great! The side that used to have a goat on it will end in a big, cavernous hole. Fill that hole with epoxy. Let it dry. Drill pilot holes in the epoxy. Drill pilot holes in the forehead area of that rigid head-cover you made. Screw wallboard screws through the inside of the head-cover and into the base of the goat horns.

Step 8: Remember that oversized deerstalker? Doesn’t it look dapper? Cut it! Cut two slits in the front. Take that, poncy British hat!

Step 9: Slide the deerstalker over the rigid head-cover, letting the creepy black goat horns curl out through the slits in the forehead of your new hat. Ooooh. Awesome. Put it on. Know what else is awesome? Greatcoats. Put that on, too. Now—covered in awesome—you are awesome.

Step 10: Go to the party. You are Warlock Holmes. Does anybody there know that’s a book series? If so, you are super-clever because you know all of the best geek-candy that everybody else hasn’t realized is cool yet. Does nobody know it’s a book series? Then you’re even super-clever-er because you came up with dark little twist on a much-loved character and nobody has to know you had any help. In fact, if you do decide to call for everyone’s attention and make a public announcement thanking the individual who helped you be so clever and so awesome, here’s how to do it right:
Thank the goat.

About the Author:

G.S. Denning furiously studied reading and math until he could play Dungeons and Dragons. His love of DandD expanded to a passion for all things in the sci-fi and fantasy realm, particularly when spliced with comedy - Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Monty Python, Red Dwarf, Black Adder, Whose Line is it Anyway, Dr. Who, and the holiest of holies: The Princess Bride.

He learned his story-telling skills on the improv stage as a member of Orlando Theatersports, Seattle Theatersports, Jet City Improv, and as a Disney Performer at Epcot. G.S. also worked for Nintendo and Wizards of the Coast.

Finally, after realizing that humanity had not used the pun Warlock Holmes yet, he sat down to begin his first novel series: a dark-comic retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic Sherlock Holmes stories. G.S. Lives in Las Vegas with The Best Wife and The Best Children.
