Author: Michael F. Stewart

Narrator: Kevin Clay

Length: 7 hours and 47 minutes

Publisher: Michael F. Stewart

Released: Aug. 17, 2018

Genre: Humor; YA

Grandma's last will and testament names Ray to inherit the trailer park. It's a million-dollar estate with one hitch: To prove he's not as aimless as he seems, Ray must discover the meaning of life by the end of the month. (She left the answer in an envelope.) If he fails, the camp goes to his estranged family.

How does anyone find the meaning of life while running a park full of misfit miners, would-be truck racers, and one demanding little girl? There's a bear, too. A grizzly. Maybe that'll help?

Michael F. Stewart embraces all forms of storytelling. In 2009, he created Bully For You for Scholastic, a fully functioning social media platform with an embedded interactive story. He’s written graphic novels for Rubicon Publishing’s Boldprint series, illustrated early readers and novellas for Pearson (coming in 2019!), non fiction texts on Corruption and Children’s Rights; he even tried to convince the world that we needed a location based storytelling app with augmented reality (NARR8R)—we still do!

He’s written adult horror, sci-fi, urban fantasy, and adventure. He’s even written books you’ll never find.

But nothing is ever wasted. His most recent book, Counting Wolves, a contemporary YA, was named to Kirkus Reviews “Best Books of 2017” list. The Boy Who Swallows Flies (2018) won Killer Nashville’s Claymore Award, and the Assured Destruction Series won The Creation of Stories: Best YA Award at the Toronto International Book Fair. In 2016, Michael was selected to join the CFC/Entertainment One TV Adaptation Lab. Stay tuned for more soon.

Herder of four daughters, Michael lives to write in Ottawa where he was the Ottawa Public Library's Writer in Residence and runs free writing workshops.

Narrator Bio

I love telling a good story! I enjoy using different voices to really bring the characters to life. It's a lot trickier than I originally thought it would be. That's why besides spending thousands of hours recording books to improve I've also taken training with some of the best narrators in the business such as Patrick Fraley and Scott Brick. I take telling your story seriously (with a serious dose of fun, of course) and try to do whatever is necessary to make sure people want to hear the story you have to tell. So, let's tell it together!

Dream Cast
Michael F. Stewart's Dream Cast for Ray Vs the Meaning of Life
You do know that people are hired and paid a lot of money to cast television shows, right? It’s not easy to get it right. So … Phew. Alright. Who would I put in the Ray show? First off, it would likely be a movie, not a TV show. There’s no real story engine beyond the premise. Did I mention that I’ve already written the film script? Yup!

Now for casting:

Ray: Dakota Goyo -- I’m going local. He’s from my hometown of Toronto and the more Canadian elements I can add, the better the chance of getting Canadian Media Fund funding--not that I’ve thought about this AT ALL. ;) Did I mention I’d like Jim Donovan to direct? He’s also a Toronto dude. Brilliant director of many TV show episodes you’ve watched. In any case, Dakota would scruff up well for the start and clean up well for the ending. Keeping it Canadian I might go Finn Wolfhard if Dakota wasn’t available. (He’ll be old enough by the time we shoot!)

Tina: This was the toughest. Her father’s a devout Sikh, so it only makes sense that she be of Punjabi background. I have quite a few ideas but they’re all too old … In this case, let’s give a relative unknown a role. Okay?

Mother: Keeping it Canadian -- Neve Campbell. I know, I know, she’s beautiful, but I can also see her being vicious and biting. And besides, Crystal was a teen pregnancy so the ages actually match up. I stand by the call!

Crystal: Georgie Henley -- If you saw her in Perfect Sisters, you’d know why. She’s terrifying.

Sure there’s a lot of missing profiles here but this is the star studded lot of them. Let’s face it, this isn’t going to have big budget, let’s not box ourselves in here!

Let’s meet Ray. Raymond Saintbury, 17 years old, 6 feet tall, caucasian, no religious affiliation, sandy brown hair, gangly, and soon to be pot-bellied once he stops growing. Cute? Maybe, but we’re going to have to give this kid a makeover.

While living in an RV park, he binge watches Brooklyn 99 and is addicted to gaming. Favorite game, likely Overwatch. At any one time, he has a couple dozen people watching him play. Ray’s not a very motivated kid. He does what is necessary to maintain his right to exist in the park, chopping the wood for his grandma and working the grill at ‘Pulled Beef’ the local burger truck, where Tina works, the girl he’s suddenly realized he should have told he liked--long before she transformed into the woman she has become this summer.

Ray has set a goal of climbing Big Mountain. It’s a snow capped peak only a few miles beyond the swamp that surrounds the park. Maybe he’ll get to it eventually. Maybe …Besides Tina, Ray’s best friend is Deneze. He’s from the reserve and drives the garbage truck, which collects from the park. Ray doesn’t get along with his family. His sister, Crystal, resents his freedoms. His mother bullies him. His Uncle is a story unto himself; in fact, the one person that seems to believe in his potential is his grandma. Grandma dies in Chapter 1. He might have even had a hand in killing her …

Something About Forever by Kimberly Loth

Something About Forever by Kimberly Loth

Boys.

They are bound to be the death of me.

Especially one with blue eyes, perfectly Mormon cut hair, and probably the inspiration for the girl’s camp song "Hot Priest".

Why the heck did he have to be the bishop’s son?

Cause here’s the thing. While I’m Mormon, I don’t really belong. I mean, I want to, but I just can’t seem to keep on the straight and narrow. Seriously, look at me. I’m not even supposed to use the name Mormon anymore, but Latter-Day Saint is a mouthful. So I’m sticking to Mormon. Sorry, Prophet.

The bishop knows my past. He knows my problems. There is no freaking way he’s going to let me date his son.

Yet, Nate comes after me anyway. And I fall hard.

But eventually….I will have to tell him about my past.

And I know, he’ll run far, far away from me when I do.

Praise for Something About Forever:

Something About Forever hit me directly in the feels. I haven’t read a book in a while that’s made me cry but this one got my tear ducts flowing. Lauren and Nate’s story is very reliable. I completely recommend this book if you haven’t read it yet! ~Brianna

While this book could have been preachy, it is far from it. Religion isn't forced on you, even though it plays a major role in the story. It is simply one part of what helps Lauren turn her life around. I liked the way Lauren struggled to overcome her past and forgive herself. It was realistic. This story is unlike any I've read by Kimberly Loth. She moved in an entirely new direction with her writing. The result is a story well worth reading. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next book in the series. ~Donna

Being not so perfect either, this book resonated deeply within my soul. The power of forgiveness for yourself and in giving to others can change your life. What a masterfully told story of love, acceptance, and forgiveness that is appropriate for teenagers and adults alike. ~Alie

I'm not really someone who is big on books with religion, but I really loved this story... This is such a sweet and forgiving story that the entire time I read it I felt light-hearted and happy. I really enjoyed the adventure of Lauren and Nate. ~Ruby

A different genre than normal, I was totally enraptured by this tale. This author truly breathed life into these characters and captured the very essence of forgiveness and redemption. ~Patty

A heartbreaking love story. It was hard for me to get passed the specificity of religion but I feel it could fit into any Christian setting. It's a good story. Well written. I hope that you enjoy it too. ~Richard

This book draws you in from the beginning and keeps you enthralled in Lauren and Nate’s story. It’s a real tear-jerker, so make sure the tissues are handy when you read it. It has great characters that you soon become invested in and an emotional plot that keeps you turning the pages. ~Rabid

EXCERPT
Number 3:

I pulled into the parking lot and gaped at the school. It was at least three times as big as my old one. Now I wished Mom had come with. Terror gripped me. A few kids looked at my car funny. Oh yeah, this probably wasn’t the best image. I needed to get out of there, so most people’s first impression wasn’t of a crazy girl in a ladybug. Seriously. My dad had to know this would humiliate me.

I hurried out of the car and kept my head down as I approached the school. I entered the front doors. It took a moment for my eyes to adjust. The light inside was unnatural and weird. I spotted the office right away. Mom had already submitted all my paperwork, so all I had to do was pick up my schedule and a map. The secretary was impersonal and short with me. So much for a good start. I stopped outside the door, not sure where I was going.

Nicki’s familiar purple head bobbed over to me. She gave me a wide smile. “Hey, you look lost.”

“Yeah, a little.” She had no idea how glad I was that she found me.

“Here, let me look at your schedule.”

She perused it. “We’ll make sure you don’t get lost.”

“We?”

“Yeah—me, Jessica, Emma, Nate, and Fitz. Come on. Nate brought donuts.”

What an odd thing. “Does he always bring donuts?”

Nicki gave me a crooked grin. “No. Don’t tell Jessica, but I think he’s trying to impress you. Either that or his mom is making him be nice. My money’s on the first one though. Nate’s a nice guy, but this is a little over the top.”

“Why would he try to impress me?” I wanted to believe her, but it seemed too good to be true.

She sniggered. “I’m not even going to answer that. Miss I’ve-got-curves-for-miles, great hair, and a smile to die for.” Yeah, so I had an hourglass figure, and I did have good hair. It was deep brown and thick. No one ever mentioned the smile before though.

Nicki chattered as we moved through the crowds. “We all eat lunch together. Don’t feel obligated to sit with us though. It’s just something we’ve done since freshman year. It’s more than just us though, and it’s a mix of juniors and seniors. You’re a junior, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Me too.”

I liked her a lot. Something about being around her immediately put me at ease. It was like she assumed we’d be friends. Things were like that with Cherise, but Nicki was a better person than Cherise. At least I hoped so.

We entered the cafeteria, and conversations buzzed all around us.

“There are so many people.” I missed my little school where everyone knew everyone. Though maybe this was better. No one here knew my past, and I didn’t have to be that person. Maybe my past would go away.

“Yeah. It’s easy to get lost among the crowds.”

I sat across from Nate and shocked myself on the table. I tried not to look like anything had happened, but Nate met my eyes, and I got another shock. My heart raced. Nicki took the seat next to me.

“She’s in my pre-calc and lit class.” She handed the schedule to Jessica.

“We’re in American History together,” Jessica said with a fake smile.

Nicki took the schedule back. “Oh, you’ve got speech with Fitz.”

“If you’re in Jessica’s history, I’m in there as well,” Nate said.

My head spun. It sounded like I’d have classes with all of them. Emma sat on the other side of Jessica but didn’t even look up at me. She had her head buried in some book.

Nate opened the donut box. “I got glazed because everyone likes that.” He met my eyes for a half second and then dropped them again. My heart raced. There was no way he was interested in me. He was completely out of my league.

I took a donut even though I’d already eaten. Jessica looked down her nose at the box and stood. “I’ve got to run. See you in class,” she said and spun on her heel.

She’d decided not to like me from the moment she saw me in the chapel. She never bothered to even know who I was. She pretended to be nice, but I’d obviously angered her in some way just by existing.

Death by the River by Alexandrea Weis & Lucas Astor

Death by the River
Alexandrea Weis & Lucas Astor
Published by: Vesuvian Books
Publication date: October 2nd 2018
Genres: Horror, Young Adult
A high school “American Psycho.”
SOME TRUTHS ARE BETTER KEPT SECRET.
SOME SECRETS ARE BETTER OFF DEAD.
Along the banks of the Bogue Falaya River, sits the abandoned St. Francis Seminary. Beneath a canopy of oaks, blocked from prying eyes, the teens of St. Benedict High gather here on Fridays. The rest of the week belongs to school and family—but weekends belong to the river.
And the river belongs to Beau Devereaux.
The only child of a powerful family, Beau can do no wrong. Handsome. Charming. Intelligent. The star quarterback of the football team. The “prince” of St. Benedict is the ultimate catch.
He is also a psychopath.
A dirty family secret buried for years, Beau’s evil grows unchecked. In the shadows of the ruined St. Francis Abbey, he commits unspeakable acts on his victims and ensures their silence with threats and intimidation. Senior year, Beau sets his sights on his girlfriend’s headstrong twin sister, Leslie, who hates him. Everything he wants but cannot have, she will be his ultimate prize.
As the victim toll mounts, it becomes crystal clear that someone has to stop Beau Devereaux.
And that someone will pay with their life.
EXCERPT:
Beau strolled down the elegant curved mahogany staircase of his parents’ plantation home. He stepped onto the hardwood floors and caressed the newel post at the end of the steps. Shaped like the head of a horse, the bit pulled taut in its mouth, he admired the pain carved into the creature’s bulging eyes.
He headed along the hallway, tugging his book bag over his shoulder, the occasional moan of the floor echoing around him. He glanced at a massive gold painting of New Orleans he liked, bought by some dead relative a century ago. Family portraits of other deceased members of the Devereaux clan littered the white wainscoting covered walls. He passed the tall cypress door to his father’s office, not bothering to check inside. His old man was an early riser and probably on his way to the brewery.
At the end of the hall, he turned down a slender corridor to the kitchen and the entrance to the five-car garage. He enjoyed the quiet in the morning after his father went to work and before his mother crawled out of bed. It made him feel like it was all his, for a little while anyway.

In the kitchen, Beau went around the beaten copper-covered breakfast bar to the refrigerator.
His father appeared, holding a coffee mug.
Beau froze, almost afraid to move when he spotted him.
Gage Devereaux rested his hip against the black granite countertop. Tilting his head slightly, he inspected his son. In his usual attire—a long-sleeved shirt and slacks—he came across more like a casual businessman than a ruthless capitalist. Except for their height and physical prowess, Beau felt he had nothing in common with his father.
He attempted to relax by shifting his book bag on his shoulder. “Didn’t expect to find you still home.”
Gage set his mug on the counter. “I wanted to speak to you before you left for school.”
The hint of condescension in his father’s voice tightened his chest—it usually signaled a lecture.
“I got a call from Ms. Greenbriar yesterday afternoon. She said you visited her office after a run-in you had with Carol Foster’s boy.”
Beau’s fingers twitched, the way they did when his aggravation got the better of him. Great. The idiot woman had called his father. The last thing he needed was Gage Devereaux up his ass.
“Derek is dating Dawn’s sister, so I often see him at school.” He tempered the irritation in his voice, not wanting to annoy his father. “I was talking to Leslie when Derek walked up. I accidentally caught him with my elbow when I turned around. I apologized and everything is fine.”
He waited, analyzing every move his father made, searching his hard eyes for an inkling of his mindset.
“I’ve spoken to you before about this.” Gage came around the breakfast bar. “This family is in a precarious position with everyone in town. I don’t want your actions threatening our business or our good name.” He gripped Beau’s shoulder. “What have I always told you? What is our rule?”
Beau cringed as the words he’d spent a lifetime dreading screamed through his head. He faced his father, standing at attention. “Self-control in all things. Never let anyone see who you really are.”
Gage leaned closer. “No matter what anyone says, no matter what they do, you walk away. This includes your girlfriend. Do you understand?”
Beau stiffened at the low, menacing tone in his father’s voice. “Yes, sir.”
Gage lifted the left side of his mouth ever so slightly. “Go to school.”
Beau stood by the breakfast bar, not moving a muscle as his father headed to the garage. The door clicked shut and a trickle of sweat ran down his temple. His jaw muscles cramped from clenching, his heart rate slowed, and he glanced at his fists. His father’s warning spinning in his head, Beau slammed his hand down on the copper bar.
Anger like molten lead ran through him. Beau sucked in deep breaths to calm himself—something he remembered from a long-ago therapy session. Then he relaxed his hand on the bar, checking the indent he’d left in the copper. He wiped the smudge away, stepped back, and raised his head.
I am the master of control.

Author Bio:
Lucas Astor is from New York, has resided in Central America and the Middle East, and traveled through Europe. He lives a very private, virtually reclusive lifestyle, preferring to spend time with a close-knit group of friends than be in the spotlight.

Photography, making wine, and helping endangered species are just some of his interests. Lucas is an expert archer and enjoys jazz, blues, and classical music.
One of his favorite quotes is: “It’s better to be silent than be a fool.” ~Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird)

Harper Phoenix

I was born and bred in East Yorkshire England, and I still
live in my hometown, with my husband and children.

My journey with stories began when I was just a child, I
would often scribble down wherever my dreams or imagination took me.

My journey with writing stories, began much later when I
became ill and housebound for a period of eighteen months. I decided I would
escape real life and become immersed in a story of my creation. With the
support of my husband and family my first real story was born. I would stay up
night after night tapping the keys of my trusty laptop, while my husband lay
sleeping beside me. I was hooked. But it wasn't as easy as that. My story
needed work. A lot of it. And it sat on my computer for some years after that.
Later on I decided to embark on another journey. I went to university, where I
studied Creative writing and English literature.

I then decided with a new wealth of knowledge that I would
once again delve into the world that I had created. I had never forgotten the
characters and would often think about what I would have liked to have done
with them over the years. I had grown to love them for getting me through a
very difficult period in my life, and I wanted other people to read all about
them. And so I began to rewrite my book.

It wasn't until I delved into the 'Book world' on Facebook
that I discovered the 'Indie book world.' It's amazing! So many authors are now
being heard publishing this way, and I can only hope that my books will leave a
lasting memory for some or all of you readers too!

Eva Jones
Eva Jones' love for the written word started in her early
teens, when she'd sneak off with her mother's historical romance novels and
blossomed from there.

Although she's always dreamed of moving south and starting a
horse farm, Eva is an Ohio native who isn't ashamed of her undying love of 90s
R&B, and the fact that going under the tattoo needle excites her.

Her passion for reading led her into this wonderful indie
community, and landed her the role of personal assistant to one of her favorite
indie authors.

When she's not running around after her three little gizmos
and one big gremlin, you can find her crafting stories about flawed characters
finding love amongst the chaos of life.
