Grounds For Remorse A Tallie Graver Mystery #2 by Misty Simon

Grounds
For Remorse
A
Tallie Graver Mystery #2
by
Misty Simon

Genre:
Cozy Mystery

No
more cheating . . .
Best
friends Tallie Graver and Gina Laudermilch both seem to spend a lot
of time around urns. For Tallie, they're part and parcel of the
family business, Graver's Funeral Home. Even though she's traded
ashes for dusting with her own cleaning business, she still works
part-time for her folks and lives above the funeral parlor. For Gina,
they're the vessels that con-tain her heavenly brew at her coffee
shop, Bean There, Done That. And both women are learning that owning
a business can make finding time for romance challenging.
But
when Gina's new beau turns out to have a wife, who barges into the
coffee shop to take him home, she can't contain her bitterness and
loudly threatens to poison his cup or boil him in a vat of coffee. So
when Mr. Wrong turns up dead at the bottom of a staircase inside
Gina's locked home, she finds herself at the top of the police's
suspect list. Tallie needs to sweep in to save her friend. But she'll
need to watch her step, or she may go from being a funeral home
employee to becoming their next client . . .

Excerpt:

I jolted awake and nearly knocked Max off the bed when the siren at the firehouse next door blared in the middle of the night. I had trained myself to sleep through it when I’d first moved over the funeral
home my parents and brother owned. It also helped that my father had installed soundproofing up here
at my request.
Tonight, though, I’d had a hard time falling asleep and had wandered to the window a few times to soak up the moonlight and watch the few cars driving on Main Street. I had been restless even with Max’s arms wrapped around me in the Murphy bed that I’d lowered from the wall.
So, it was no surprise that I heard it and shot straight up in bed. As softly as possible I removed myself from under Max’s arm and went to the front windows of my apartment, where I’d be able to see the direction the fire truck headed. The lights could be mesmerizing as they strobed across the brick
buildings of Main Street in our small town. Pennsylvania liked its sirens and its volunteer firemen.
But though the siren blared and the lights flashed, they didn’t get far. In fact, they pulled across the
street and stopped outside Gina’s.
What on earth?
“Max. Max!” I shook him, then ran to my closet for a hoodie to throw over my pajamas. No time to waste on a bra, and the hoodie would cover up any sagging. Plus, the dead of summer could still get a little chilly outside in the middle of the night.
He sat up, his hair going in all directions. “What’s going on?”
“The fire truck is in front of Gina’s house. I have to go over there.”
Points for him that he was out of bed and stepping into his jeans before I’d finished my second sentence.
“See if you can get a hold of her. She might not be able to answer, but maybe she can. Just check.” He
went to the window as he pulled a shirt on over his head. “I don’t see flames. But an ambulance just
pulled up.”
“Oh no. That could mean anything.” They came out for all reasons, generally anything that involved a
call to the emergency line at the police station. What had happened? Was Gina hurt? Had I left her alone and Craig had come for her? My stomach tried to claw its way up my throat.
Stepping into shoes, I hit my Gina speed dial as I flew down the two sets of stairs to the main floor.
Max was right on my heels. By the fourth ring, Gina still hadn’t answered, but then it didn’t matter because I saw her standing on the sidewalk with her arms wrapped around herself and a blanket over
her shoulders.
At least she was alive. While I’d booked it down the stairs, horrible visions had flashed through my head of Craig getting in her house and killing her in her sleep. Seeing her standing there alleviated that fear at least, but it didn’t indicate what had happened. I didn’t even look for traffic as I ran across the
street and jerked to a halt in front of her. I opened my arms and she stepped forward. But Chief Burton
put an arm out between us, keeping her from hugging me. The man was the bane of my existence.
He still held a grudge over the stuck-up, snobby bitch I had been for the past five years. I’d thought helping him with a double murder a few months ago might have softened him up, but that didn’t seem to be happening with the way his eyes were flinty and his stance forbidding.
“What are you doing?” I demanded.
“This is a crime scene, Tallie.”
“A what? What happened?” Quickly taking in the scene, I saw no blood and no broken windows. Nothing out of the ordinary, except my friend standing on the street with a blanket around her shoulders.
“Go home. We’re taking care of it. I need you to step back. We don’t want to contaminate anything
until we have all the evidence we need.”
“Gina?” I met her eyes. Max stepped up next to me and put a hand on my outstretched arm.
“Don’t leave me, Tallie. Please.” Her voice quavered with distress and I wanted to punch Burton in his shiny badge.
Instead, I glared at him and almost said the scathing words that were positively boiling on my tongue. But I did not want to make anyone even madder. I settled for taking a step back. “I’m not leaving. I won’t touch anything, but I’m not leaving.”
Burton sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. Not my problem.
“Do you want me to call your mom, Gina?” I asked. “God, no, please.”
“Can you tell me what happened? Why are the police and the fire department and the ambulance here?”
Burton stepped between us again. “You can stay, but I’ll be asking the questions. Right now, this is a
need-to-know basis and you are not someone who needs to know anything.” Burton stood with his back
to Gina, fully blocking her from my sight. Kicking him would be a very bad idea, I told myself several
times, while I fought down the urge to do just that. I tried a different tactic with the silvered-haired
man who was the strong arm of the law around these parts. “Can you tell me what happened then? I live in the neighborhood and would like to know what has happened to bring everyone out before dawn.”
He frowned at me, his bushy gray eyebrows pulling down to form a V. “There’s been a death and that’s
all you need to know.”
A death? I reeled back into Max’s arms, my brain now going to the threats Gina had made earlier
toward Craig. No way would she have done that. I knew it in my heart. Plus, I didn’t even know who was dead. I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions until I had more facts.
And then the gurney rolled past me and Max. A hand flopped out from under the sheet, the manicured
fingernails masculine and way too clean. It was Craig. To say this was not good was a gross understatement.

Cremains
of the Day
A
Tallie Graver Mystery #1

There's
no reverse on the hearse . . .
For
Tallulah Graver, marrying wealthy Waldo Phillips seemed like the best
way out of the family business, the Graver Funeral Home. But when her
marriage falls apart and Tallie is left with next to nothing, she
turns to cleaning houses to make ends meet. As humbling as it is to
tidy the mansions of the snobby socialites she used to call friends,
at least she doesn't have to be around dead bodies. Until . . .
She
discovers one of her employers lying in a closet with a knife
sticking out of her chest. This unpleasant shock seems to be part of
a web of weird experiences: Tallie's friend Gina's shop is broken
into, her ex is stun-gunned where it hurts the most, and now she's
receiving flowers from the dead woman. Granted the deliveryman is
handsome, but seriously, that's enough to cast a pall over anyone’s
day. Now Tallie needs to dig deep to clean up this mess—before she
finds herself in a grave situation.
You’ll
be cheering as the clues pileup in this creative cozy mystery.”

birthday, Megan of Chaumont discovers she’ll be sold as a bride to
the brutish Volodane family—within hours. Her father grants only
that she may choose which one of the ruthless, grasping lord's three
sons she weds:
Rolf, the eldest:
stern, ambitious, and loyal?
Sebastian, the
second son: sympathetic, sly, and rebellious?
Or Kai, the
youngest: bitter, brooding, and proud?
As shy, horrified
Megan flees the welcome dinner for her in-laws-to-be, she finds an
enchanted mirror that will display how her life unrolls with each
man, as if she were living it out in a breath. But there is no smooth
“happily ever after” in her choices.
Deaths and honors,
joys and agonies, intrigues and escapes await her in a remote,
ramshackle keep, where these rough but complex men reveal one side

To keep those she loves safe, Becca is willing to risk it all.
EXCERPT:
On the other side of the bed from where I sat the air shimmered with magic as a man materialized. Merlin stood opposite me, his features wrought with concern. Each time I saw him he looked exactly the same, whether it was as a vendor in a Belfast market twenty years ago, or a patron in the museum on my first day of work a month ago. White-blond hair neatly styled and sharp ice blue eyes softened by a few wrinkles in the corners. He looked sophisticated and worldly, but at that moment he also wore compassion and grief.
Our eyes held each other for a long pregnant moment, long enough to further thaw my ravaged emotions. I had thought I would have nothing to say to this man who had set the events in motion that led me to the absolute lowest point in my life. However, seeing him stand before me, I had questions that needed to be asked.
“Why have you done this? Why me?” My voice was no more than a whisper.
“I spent years in that market, watching and interacting, knowing I had to find just the right child. Someone who was receptive to the magic, someone who lived far away where Morgan would not find them. When you approached my booth and were drawn instantly to the necklace, I knew you were the one.”
“Did you know it would make me Fae?”
“I wasn’t entirely sure, but I had my suspicions.”
“Did you think about the other impacts on my life, the effect it would have on my loved ones?”
“Nothing I could say or do will ever ease the burden of what I have forced upon you. There are some of us who bear a disproportionate degree of hardship in life, whether owed to circumstances of our birth or a course of events during our lifetime. There is never a reason adequate enough to justify our struggles sufficient to ease the burden. The only balm that will help you is that which comes from the acceptance of your circumstances. Once you let go of how you got to your current situation and look toward how you can improve your future station, then you will be enlightened in a way that is truly empowering.”

Author Bio:
Jill is a Texan, born and raised. She manages the hectic social calendars for her three active children and occasionally spends an evening with her dashing husband. Aside from being an author and a mom, she's an attorney, travel junkie, and voracious reader.

The Art of the Game by Kayt Miller

The Art of the Game

by Kayt Miller
Publication Date: September 28, 2018
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Meet Carter Corcoran: The hottest defensive end in the NFL. He’s big and brawny and has the best sack percentage in the league. Sure, he’s a force on the field but off the field? Let’s just say he’s got a secret. One only his family knows about.

Meet Vivien “Reggie” Reginald: The hottest mess that ever graduated from the Chicago Art Institute. Well, maybe that’s a little harsh. Her best friend, Kai, would probably just say that Reggie was misunderstood. Sure, she’s got issues but nothing that can’t be solved by working hard and making art. Am I right?

What happens when they meet? When Carter meets Reggie, he discovers a link between his job playing football and his real passion. He also realizes something’s been missing in his life. Something curvy. Something real.

When Vivien meets Carter, she discovers not all men leave and some even love her just the way she is.

Due to coarse language and sexual content this book is intended for readers 18+.

It is a stand-alone with a sexy hero with no cheating and an HEA. (And here’s a heads up for those of you who are following the Flynn Family series. Carter Corcoran is Kennedy Corcoran-Flynn’s brother.;)

About Kayt Miller

Kayt Miller is not my real name. It’s my alias, my nom de plume. It allows me to write all my romantic and sexy thoughts down without my students discovering my secret. It’s sort of exciting. It’s exhilarating to lead a double life.

There are times when the author and the real me are the same people. Like the fact we live in the midwest where it’s cold in the winter and hot in the summer. If it weren’t for the other two seasons, I’d move to warmer climes. But since of my family and friends all live nearby, it’s hard to think of living anywhere else.

Truth be told, my degrees from Iowa State didn’t lead me to write. Reading did that. I was searching for a book. One about a certain type of woman and a specific kind of man and I couldn’t find it so, I wrote it. I called it Game Changer and it couldn’t have been a more appropriate title. It changed my life in many ways. While my real job is teaching young people, my fun job is conjuring up characters and situations to write about.

I’ve also learned a few things along the way. Like the fact that hiring an editor is a must, albeit an expensive must. I’ve learned so much from that process and hope that shows with each new book. Another thing I’ve learned is that reviews matter. A good review will make my day while a bad review will bum me out for a day (or a week) but I always learn from them. So, leave me your reviews. I read them. Your opinion matters to those of us who write and who want to get better. Don’t be too mean, though. I’m just a woman who likes to write about love.

Silver Dagger 2 year Celebration & Giveaway

Silver Dagger Book Tours is now 2
years old this month!

Believe it or not, Silver Dagger Book
Tours was created and is mainly operated by just one person!
I used to be just an internet crawler
looking for new books and giveaways and stumbled upon book tours.
After indulging in many dozens of tours, I decided I'd like to try my
hand at blogging in my spare time (with absolutely no blogging
experience at all!) I was a book blogger for several companies (and
still am) and stuck with it for over 3 years. In that time, I learned
all the ropes and became a pretty efficient blogger, but there was
still something missing- I wanted to make my posts stand out a bit!
So, I started creating small graphics like “about the book” and
the other standard graphics that you see in all my tours nowadays and
started jazzing my posts up.
I became pregnant with my second child
in the fall of 2015 and me and my hubby decided to try to purchase
our first home finally, so I quit my waitressing job to pack up
everything for the move and never looked back!
It took several months of trying to get
the ball rolling and was quite difficult at first to get authors to
tour with me. Thus, I had an idea to let everybody pay what they can
comfortably afford instead of set rates as I thought what some other
companies charged were just outrageous!
Since then, I have done over 1000 tours
and worked with hundreds of amazing authors – many who come back
for repeat tours! I have 2-3 tours kick off every weekday with
occasional tours on the weekends and EVERY tour is required to have a
giveaway so readers can gain a little something and have fun while
they enjoy learning about new books.
I have an absolutely amazing group of
bloggers that share my tours on their sites and really couldn't have
gotten this far without their continued support and would like to
thank each and every one of them! Ya'll are amazing! I also have two
assistants that help me check links and keep up with blogger activity
– Janet, who's been with me over a year, and Laurie, who is a new
addition. Ya'll ladies are spectacular and I couldn't do it without
you!
Absolutely everything else is
completely run solely by me though and I really enjoy organizing
tours and helping new authors get discovered. I don't discriminate
and host ALL fictional genres in ALL age ranges as me and my bloggers
have a broad range of readers that enjoy many different genres.
After two years of astronomical tours,
I am going stronger than ever now and growing on a daily basis with
plans to continue hosting tours for many many years!

A third generation local of the
historic town of Fredericksburg, TX, I was born and raised among the
rolling hills of the Texas Hill Country where the beauty of the
landscape is breathtaking and town is  famous for the Main Street historic
shopping district, the best peaches in the world, wildflowers and
wine. I really can't imagine living anywhere else!
A country girl through and through, I
grew up hunting, fishing and digging for Indian artifacts, all the
while enjoying the many rivers and swimming holes around town. I'm a

encompass my entire world!
A bookaholic from birth, I have always
had a deep passion for reading and spend many late nights devouring
books into the wee hours of the morning. My “real” book
collection numbers over 3000 books and take up an entire small room

my “book cave”. I've been building this collection since my
childhood and will keep on adding to it for the rest of my life. Of
course, I also have a similar collection of ebooks as well as I
finally went digital a few years ago.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading,
playing with my kids, doing DIY renovation projects with my husband,
cooking, and relaxing on my back porch with a good cup of coffee
while I watch the massive axis deer herd come through the yard.
