Would you give up everything, even the time in which you live, to be with your soul mate? That’s the question my heroine, May Gold must answer in this time travel love story. And she has to answer it in three short weeks, on a tour of Italy. A college adjunct teacher, she often dreams about the subject of her master’s thesis—17th century sculptor Gianlorenzo Bernini. In her fantasies, she’s in his arms, the wildly adored partner of the man whose passionate art invented the Baroque style. But in reality, May has just landed in Rome with her teaching colleagues and older boyfriend. She considers herself a precocious failure and yearns to unleash her passion and creative spirit. May finds she has to choose: stay in a safe but stagnant existence or take a risk.

In Bernini’s Studio

That smile of his ought to be illegal. She was standing too close to him for a biographer. Nevertheless, she moved closer. “You’ve made him so noble. Really, he wasn’t this beautiful,” she pointed out. From his surprise, she gathered that he wasn’t used to having his work critiqued. Of course, he was Bernini. Only his patrons had the power to criticize his art, and they seemed to universally consider it fabulous. The matter of fidelity wasn’t an issue in his time the way it was in hers.

“I show his stature in his eyes and forehead,” he said. “I reveal the rest of his nature in the face below the nose, where I capture his fondness for feasting. And even that is beautiful.”

“Beauty in his fat jowls?”

He laughed. “They say he has expansive meals.” He ran a loving hand over the clay. “I captured his face when he was about to speak, so you can read his lively thought. Perhaps it was of mutton!”

They both laughed, and she said, “This king’s image is beautiful in your eyes and under your hands.”

“I tried to imagine what would move this man. You’re a poet. You must be able to feel it when the strings of your heart make a music that becomes a stream of light. You stand in that light and fold your hands. If you are sincere, truth comes as the body of an angel. A visitation.”

She stepped closer and bowed. “Cavaliere, you are my stream of light.”

He laughed and pulled her up. “I was simply answering your question.”

Outwardly a grieving young Victorian widow, Charlotte Richmond is concealing some scandalous secrets when
she arrives at Finchbourne Manor to start a new life with her husband's family. The wealthy Richmonds must
never discover that her husband's recent death in the Indian Mutiny came as a great relief. Nor must they hear
about the rumors circulating in the army regarding his scandalous behavior. His death has also been the subject
of speculation and Charlotte must take care not to spill any secrets. Above all she must make certain that
nobody in her new life hears of her own adventurous upbringing in Australia. When the past catches up with
Charlotte, she begins to fear for her own life.

Extract: MURDER   MOST WELCOME
LATE SPRING 1858 - in the South of England
Chapter 1
As she laid out the body, Charlotte Richmond made two surprising discoveries.
    The first of these led her to suspect that the man on the bed had been murdered.  By whom, she had
not the slightest notion. To whom she was profoundly grateful.
    The second discovery confirmed what she had known all along, that the deceased - late and far from
lamented - had not possessed the habits of a gentleman.
    As this was the second time in less than a year that he had apparently been murdered Charlotte felt
she might be forgiven for not falling into a paroxysm of grief; indeed, strong hysterics might, she
considered, be a more appropriate reaction.
    Hysterics not being in her nature she merely veiled his face decently with a linen cloth and
wondered what to do with the object she had so surprisingly encountered. ‘Well, well,
well,’ she murmured. 'Here you are, dead again, I see. I wonder what is to become of me now?'
A few short weeks previously, Charlotte, who was waiting with some trepidation in the entrance hall at
Finchbourne Manor and trying to overcome her anxiety by observing the
ancient, dark oak of the panelling, the extreme chill of the flagstone floor, and the picturesquely leaded
windows that let in so little light, had overheard her mother-in-law express a similar sentiment.
     'Oh, that dreadful Mutiny, what will become of that unfortunate child, poor, dear Charlotte?' she had
enquired, allowing an artistic sob to colour her voice.
     'Well, Mama,' answered a prosaic female voice. 'I understand that Charlotte is even now on her way
home from India to Finchbourne. If you recollect it was your own suggestion, when we heard of dear
Frampton's sad death, that she should make her home here with us. And after all there is no reason to
believe that Charlotte is a child; remember, dearest Frampton was thirty-seven and his letters made no
mention that his bride was much younger than he was himself.’
     'Oh do hush, Agnes dear!'
     In spite of the nervous tension that had her sitting ramrod straight on an uncomfortable oak settle,
blackened by age, Charlotte listened, with wry amusement, to this conversation. Shifting very slightly
in her seat she felt a twinge of guilt as she recollected how differently Frampton Richmond’s ‘sad’ death
had been viewed by her military acquaintances in India.
     I must say nothing, she thought, shaking her head.  I have seen the damage caused by a stray shell
fired into the midst of the market place, who am I to lob a shell of my own and destroy their illusions
about their lost hero - and for what?   Rumour? Speculation?
     No, not I, my part is to play the grieving widow and ingratiate myself into their home and into their
affections, to make a settled home for myself at last.  Besides, she reminded herself, I dare not raise
any spectres from the past, what if they found out about me?

Naval Maneuvers by Dee S. Knight Blitz

Erotic Romance
Date Published: March 9, 2018
Publisher: Black Velvet Seductions

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Men and women of the armed forces experience desire and love pretty much like everyone else. Except, well, there is that uniform. And the hard-to-resist attraction of "duty, honor, service" as a man might apply them to a woman's pleasure. All things considered, romance among the military is a pretty sexy, compelling force for which you'd better be armed, whether weighing anchor and moving forward into desire, dropping anchor and staying put for passion, or setting a course for renewed love with anchor home.

About the Author

A few years ago, Dee S. Knight began writing, making getting up in the morning fun. During the day, her characters killed people, fell in love, became drunk with power, or sober with responsibility. And they had sex, lots of sex. Writing was so much fun Dee decided to keep at it. That's how she spends her days. Her nights? Well, she's lucky that her dream man, childhood sweetheart, and long-time hubby are all the same guy, and nights are their secret. Dee loves writing erotic romance and sharing her stories with you. She hopes you enjoy!

VBT Waking to Black by V.H. Luis

Waking to Black
by V.H. Luis

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:   Erotic Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

He shattered my defenses, and I was fragile to begin with…

The first time I saw Adam Black, I was between the arms of a criminal, a gun to my throat and even
then, I knew I was staring at the most dangerous man in the room.

Maybe it was his confident, cerulean eyes, or the sex appeal radiating from his pores like heat waves
on a scorching day, but by proximity alone he made my vision blur and my heart stammer.

The day I was nearly killed in a bank hold-up, I began to live—because of him.

Now, I’m praying for the first time in years, hoping the scars of my past, the secrets I keep, don’t
interfere with my future…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Two:
“It must be difficult; constantly running away from anything remotely intimidating.”
It’s the dare in his voice that makes me turn my head, not the statement.
“Those are the words of someone who hasn’t gotten what they want.” Even as I’m speaking I know
I’m the mouse in this cat and mouse game—I should walk away, but I can’t.
“What do you know about what I want?” He climbs the last step of the porch, his broad shoulders
flexed.
Refusing to take the bait, I give him my back. Reaching for the door with my right hand, I’m halted by
the strong pull of my left.
Before I can focus, his lips press against mine while his body traps me between him and the door.
One of his hands runs over the curve of my waist while the other tangles in the curls of my hair, pulling
on the strands and angling me so that he can have free reign. I moan, loving the possessive way he
grips my body, and he takes the opportunity to dip his tongue inside my mouth. His taste is divine; it’s
a heady mix of wine and passion. The remnants of my resistance melt as I meld against him, moving
my hands over his stomach, and resting them on his belt buckle.
He pulls back with a quick nip to my bottom lip and my eyes pop open at the sudden jolt of
pleasure-filled pain.
“Say you’ll do the mural,” he commands.
“Do you always get what you want?” I counter, gazing up at him from lowered lashes.
He rubs his cheek against mine so his lips hover over my ear.
“Persistence is a virtue.”
“I thought that was patience.”
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
V.H. Luis is the author of the Black Series, an erotic romance trilogy that follows the love affair of
Evelyn Snowe and Adam Black. Her debut book WAKING to Black, will be released in 2018, and the
Welcome to my internet haven!
I’m a born and bred Miami Girl—and proud of it! I would wear shorts and flip-flops every day of the
week if I could. Growing up in Miami, surrounded by my parent’s heritage has made me proud of my
Cuban ancestry. Cafecito and a guava pastry for breakfast? Yes, please! Salsa music while I tidy the
house? Of course.
If I’m not busy scribbling notes about the story pounding out of my head, I’m painting, listening to
music, or spending time with the love of my life—my son. If I decide to travel, I bring the whole family
(in-laws included), or at least I try to, because life is too short not to spend it with family; one of the
many lessons my father taught me.
Interview with V.H. Luis
  1. Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?
My characters are total thieves! I often think the story is heading a certain direction and BAM! Next thing I know my characters have hijacked the narrative and I’m trying to catch-up. I’m sure some people think it’s odd to hear a writer discuss fictional characters as if they are real-people, but when you spend so much time elaborating on the personality and traits of a character, they do take-up a life of their own.
While I always know important aspects of a story such as the climax or the end goal, how the characters get there is often not how I envisaged. Like a reader, a writer is often surprised by the direction of a story—at least that has been my experience.
Personally, the most important thing I try to remember when writing is that while my characters should have free-reign I still have a responsibility to write a story people want to read. Contrived plot devices don’t have a place in a well-thought-out story. I’m always cognizant of that and endeavor to make what I’m writing emotional and real.
  1. Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.
If you are a fan of billionaire romances Waking to Black (Uninhibited #1), is definitely something you want to read. I could compare it to like books of that sub-genre but truthfully, I think it’s a unique read because of the heroine—Evelyn Snowe. I love that in many respects she is an underdog. She has so much untapped strength and potential. Witnessing her growth throughout the series has been wonderful—she has surprised me on several occasions. I also think the hero of Waking to Black, Adam Black, is as beautifully-damaged as Evelyn. Both these characters complement each other so well. At its root the story is a steamy tale of self-discovery. Yes, it’s an erotic romance but one with a lot of depth.
  1. Have you written any other books that are not published?
I spent several years writing on public forums though none of those stories were ever published in the traditional sense. Honestly, this is my first attempt at publishing and I’m enjoying the experience thus far.
  1. Pen or type writer or computer?
Computer without a doubt! I used to be a very dedicated pen/paper writer until about fifteen—then I got my first computer. While I may scribble down dialogue or the occasional lightbulb-idea on paper, I much prefer to delve into a story on a computer. Part of it is the convenience of course though I think the years I spent on an online roleplaying community really shifted the way my brain works in terms of writing. I find writing on a computer easy and comfortable.
  1. Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?"
THANK YOU!!! I’ve been so blessed and welcomed by many bloggers and readers alike. Waking to Black (Uninhibited #1), is my debut book and for someone so completely green in terms of publishing, I have been welcomed by many in the past few weeks. It’s been a pleasure to see the reviews on Amazon/Netgalley/Goodreads, as well as the tweets on twitter. I appreciate and value every one of you.
XOXO
V.H. Luis
