I want revenge.

With threats like these, I can’t escape, either.
This time, I’m fighting back. I don’t just want my life back. I want vengeance for what was done to me.
I didn’t plan to fall in love.

I want to save her.
A girl like her isn’t easily forgotten.
A girl like her doesn’t trust easily.
I’ll fight for her—I’ll fight with her. Together, we can build a new life, free from the past. Together, we can rise.
Even if we could lose everything by trying.

Excerpt:

Another body flings itself at the car. The
undead have some sort of death wish.
“We need a shortcut,” says Mia.
If I hadn’t applied her makeup for the
play, I might have mistaken her for one of those things. Zombies. Undead.
Walkers. Did it matter what they were called? “Where?”
“There,” she yells, pointing ahead. “Cut
across Old Man Jenkins’ place!”
“Are you crazy? He’ll call the police,” I
say.
“I think the police are a little busy
right now,” says Mia.
She has a point. I make a hard right by
his driveway, clipping his mailbox. Wincing, I glance in the rearview mirror.
Envelopes and catalogues fly in the air like confetti at a parade. If I survive
this, I might not survive the homeowner’s wrath.
“Watch out!” Mia is holding onto to the
dashboard for dear life.
I turn my attention back to the lawn and
swerve, just missing a zombie…or was it Old Man Jenkins? He’s so old it’s hard
to tell.
“Maybe I should drive,” offers Zack.
     “It’s not my fault Driver’s Ed didn’t
cover the end of the world maneuvers!”

Zinnia by Christina Bauer

Zinnia
Christina Bauer
(Angelbound Offspring #3)
Published by: Monster House Books
Publication date: September 30th 2019
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult
As the last dragon shifter, I live alone, hiding in one of Earth’s sacred deserts. My human handlers tell me that I have no parents, no name, and no purpose other than to train for battle and one day become a vessel for the reincarnation of Chimera, the greatest dragon shifter of all. Sadly, Chimera’s rebirth will mean my own death. But my handlers say this sacrifice is a noble fate that will rebuild the dragon shifter world.
I shall die on my seventeenth birthday. That’s five days from now.
Then I hear music thumping across the desert. I take my mortal form, follow the sound, and find humans dancing in what they call a rave. There is a stage and a rock band. One thing quickly becomes clear: Unlike the audience, the musicians are dragon shifters, just like me. And one of them, the guitar player Rhodes, makes my knees turn watery. The lead singer, Kaps, has something strangely familiar about her.
It all adds up to one conclusion: My handlers lied to me. I’m not the last of my kind. Memories reappear. I had parents once. Portia and Tempest. I even had a name. Zinnia. Perhaps I have a reason to live as well. I step past the dancing humans to confront the players.
I will find out the full truth, no matter what.

KATHLEEN
Things I know about Nash Ryan:
Loner.
Unpredictable.
Wickedly hot.
Unforgiving.
Probably not the kind of man anyone should trust with an infant.
Definitely not the kind of man any woman should trust with her heart.
When Nash returned to town for the sake of his baby brother I thought I already understood who he was.
I also thought I was done giving my heart away until he proved otherwise.
But we don’t stand a chance.
Everything is ready to unravel.
And the secrets I’ve kept will be our undoing.

NASH
This isn’t the first time I’ve known tragedy.
Maybe that’s why I’ve chosen to remain alone.
But my life of solitude ends now because a terrible twist of fate has made me
the guardian of my four-month-old brother.
Suddenly I’ve got a kid to raise and a family business to save and there’s no time for anything else.
That’s why Kathleen Doyle and I made this arrangement.
Once a skinny nerd girl who used to follow me around everywhere, she’s now a single mom with flaming hair, a killer body and too many responsibilities.
We told each other it was just sex.
We told each other there were no strings attached, no expectations.
We lied.
And the consequences will cost us.
But I’m not surrendering this new family without a battle.
Because in this life we might only get one chance to have it all.
