Refuse to Love by Alison Mello

Title: Refuse to Lose
Series: A Coach's Love Book 1
Author: Alison Mello
Genre: Second Chance Romance/Sports
Release Date: April 3, 2018

I thought I was helping a friend, but instead I only managed to get myself in a heap of trouble which left me with two options. Coach little league as part of community service…or face jail time.

So here I am…coaching little league, a project I wasn’t looking forward to—that’s until I see Stella at the field with her son. Unfortunately for me it takes a lot longer than I’d hoped for her to give me the time of day.

Yet, now that I’ve caught her attention, things are much more complicated than I thought. Who knew juggling a struggling friend, community service, a team bully and a girlfriend would be this hard?

But I won’t let it get me down. Someone once told me the secret to success, and come hell or high water I’ll show everyone around me that I…

…refuse to lose.

Alison has been writing for over a year now. Her debut book Finding Love (October 2015) was published by Siren Publishing. Her following books Needing Your Love (November 2015), Found My Love (December 2015), and Fighting for Love (January 2016) were also published with Siren to finish the Learning to Love series.

Her desire to see her books on shelves led to her next work Chasing Dreams (April 2015), now Club Thrive 1: Compulsion. She submitted it for publication with Limitless Publishing and was thrilled that it was quickly accepted. Excited to reach that goal, she moved on to the next series she had in mind and wrote Saved By a Soldier (June 2016), My Broken Soldier (July 2016), Forever My Soldier (August 2016), and A Soldier for Bella (September 2016). She continued writing adding the Once Broken series and she's added to the Club Thrive series.

Alison enjoyed reading as a child and found her passion for it again in 2011 when E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey was released. Her love of reading was re-ignited and she continued reading other books in the same genre. In the summer of 2015, she decided to give writing a try and two weeks later Finding Love was born. As soon as she finished the first book, she began writing the second book in the series. Her third book was finished by the time Finding Love had been accepted for publication. Alison discovered she has a passion for writing and has spent the last year meeting new readers and sharing the love she has for writing.

Married to her own real life hero, Alison lives with her amazing family in Massachusetts where she was born and raised. She loves having her own personal inspiration right at home and when she’s not writing she enjoys playing soccer, basketball, and football with her son.

You want my hands on you, Celia. Making you shiver, making you moan, making you scream. Admit it.

Celia Villarreal had wanted those things with Ryland Brody, Bitterthorn’s golden boy—and wanted them badly enough to make a fool of herself one idiotic night months ago.

Naughty children shouldn’t touch what they don’t own.

Rejection always stings, but putting a move on Ry had devastating consequences. Now, her regret burns as bright as her need—until Ry, as glorious as ever, makes her an offer that might finally be her ticket out of town.

I’m not your enemy, darlin’. If you give me half a chance, you’ll see that I can be your hero.

Until the truth comes out.

This is who we are, from now on. Say it. Feel it.

Once Ry’s past motivations come to light, Celia must decide if she can give him another chance, or turn her back on Bitterthorn—and the one man who’s always wanted her—for good.

A competitive figure skater from the age of eight, Stacy Gail wrote stories between events to pass the time. By fourteen, she told her parents she was either going to be a skating coach who was also a romance writer, or a romance writer who was also a skating pro. Now with a day job of playing on the ice with her students, and writing everything from PNR and cyberpunk to contemporary romance at night, both dreams have come true.

Nancy McCabe, who grew up in Kansas just a few hours from the Ingalls family’s home in Little House on the Prairie, always felt a deep connection with Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the Little House series. McCabe read Little House on the Prairie during her childhood and visited Wilder sites around the Midwest with her aunt when she was thirteen. But then she didn’t read the series again until she decided to revisit in adulthood the books that had so influenced her childhood. It was this decision that ultimately sparked her desire to visit the places that inspired many of her childhood favorites, taking her on a journey that included stops in the Missouri of Laura Ingalls Wilder, the Minnesota of Maud Hart Lovelace, the Massachusetts of Louisa May Alcott, and even the Canada of Lucy Maud Montgomery.

From Little Houses to Little Women reveals McCabe’s powerful connection to the characters and authors who inspired many generations of readers. Traveling with McCabe as she rediscovers the books that shaped her and ultimately helped her to forge her own path, readers will enjoy revisiting their own childhood favorites as well.

About the Shadow Walker Box Set:

After her enforcer teammates are killed in a bust gone wrong, Denai witch Charlie McCray struggles to carry on working the job without them. Using her gift of communicating with the dead, she's determined to get justice and find those responsible no matter what. But her only clue to go on is a mysterious orb with a deadly reputation that everyone wants to get their hands on.

The only one who may be able to help her figure out their deaths, and the connection to the orb is the dark and sexy demon from her past. Convinced she's his life mate, to her denial, Charlie isn't happy to see him again. Can they really work together as partners to track down the truth whilst ignoring the ever-growing attraction between them?

Excerpt From Book 2

Charlie McCray ducked down by her car as a fireball came at her. This was not going according to plan.
“I thought you said this guy would help us?” Kaz muttered, drawing her gun.
“I don’t think he was happy when he found out we’re enforcers.” Charlie grabbed her own weapon, wincing as her wing mirror exploded. “Time for this guy to go down.” Her body blurred as she vanished into the ground below. She moved through the concrete, using her fazing power which allowed her to become incorporeal and pass through solid matter. She jumped back up, pointing her gun at the man’s head. “Now I don’t like to use this unless there’s a problem. We don’t have a problem, do we, Val?”
The demon, a scruffy looking overweight man with a balding head and shaggy brown bead, froze. “You said you were Drake’s mate, not a fucking enforcer!”
“I’m both. Now are you gonna stop throwing fireballs at me or do we have to go and chat at the station?” She brushed her long brown hair off her face.
Kaz moved out from behind the car, sunlight catching on her strawberry blonde locks. “Yeah, attacking Division agents gets you at least three hundred years in prison,” Kaz said, her emerald eyes flashing. She grinned. “You’d get bored.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Two:
My peripheral vision catches sight of a sudden movement. I walk down the steps and turn right until I reach the edge of the building. I peek around the corner and see a little girl pressed against the rough siding. Her dark hair is braided. Her jeans and jacket are too big and look like boy clothes. Her gaze is fixed on the ground. Her thumb is in her mouth. She’s clutching a stuffed rabbit.
I take a step toward her and smile. “Hi. Are you waiting for your dad?”
She nods.
I take a step closer, trying not to spook her. “I’m Mel. What’s your name?”
Without removing her thumb, she mumbles something unintelligible. I take a step close and squat down until we’re eye level.
“I didn’t quite get your name. Maybe if you take your thumb out of your mouth it will work better.”
She lifts her head and I’m looking into eyes identical to those of the little blond boy. Bright and blue. My heart breaks when I look into her soul. Streaked with pale blue accents, it’s a soft shade of pink and bisected with a jagged black line. This little girl has experienced severe trauma.
“I think I saw your dad and brother go into the hall. Am I right?”
She nods. The thumb comes out of her mouth. “Papa and Gunner.”
“Can you tell me your name again, sweetie?”
“I’m Kimber.”
“Do people call you Kim?”
She shakes her head. “Nope. People call me Kimber, ‘cause that’s my name.”
“Got it,” I say. “How about you keep me company until the meeting is over. I’ve got nobody to talk to and I’m lonesome. We could go sit on the stairs and wait together.”
“Not there. No females. We can sit on the bench, though.”
She takes my hand and leads me to a rickety bench a few yards in front of the porch railing. We sit in companionable silence for a few minutes. I’m dying to know more about Kimber, but don’t want to bombard her with questions.
“This is Blossom Bunny,” she offers, thrusting the stuffed rabbit in front of my face.
Blossom Bunny is not attractive. Her fur is dull gray and splotchy. Her long, floppy ears droop down to her skinny legs. Black, beady eyes peer straight ahead atop a little pink nose.
“Very nice,” I lie.
“I love Blossom Bunny. She has zippers in her ears. I keep important stuff there.”
She lays the bunny across her lap, lifts one of the floppy ears and points out the zipper.
“Very cool. It’s good to have a place to keep important stuff.”
She nods solemnly, unzips one of the ears and pulls out stubby pencil, a little rubber ball and a hair ribbon. Seeing her sparse array of treasures makes me sad.
Interview with Marilee Brothers
1. Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?
They absolutely hijack the story and I depend upon them to do so. I usually know how the book starts and how I want it to end. The middle is a bit vague. Before I start writing, I do an extensive analysis of the main characters. I know them well and, so far, they have never let me down. If I get stuck, I add a new character to kick-start the action. I’ve tried outlining, but the book never seems to end up according to the plan, so I’ve learned to let the characters guide me.
2. Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.
The Soul Seeker series has a little of everything. Romance. Mystery. Suspense. Timely themes. I hope your readers will start with books 1 and 2, Affliction and Allegiance. Hope and Honor, book 3, ties everything together and delivers a satisfying finish to the series.
3. Have you written any other books that are not published?
I’ve been very lucky. All my books have been published.
4. Pen or typewriter or computer?
Most of the time, I use the word processing program on my computer. However, if I get really stuck, I use paper and pen to get the words flowing. There’s only one problem: I have a hard time reading my own writing.
5. Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?"
