His fingers, spread on my hips, slipped around to my stomach. I wanted to fight it. Wanted to step away from him. But the hum of my body wouldn’t allow it. He lowered his head, burying his nose into my neck. “You smell amazing.” Though my thighs quivered, I tried to remain indifferent. “It’s called sweat.” His body shook with laughter. “Well, then I’d like nothing more than to taste your sweat.” The thought of his lips on my neck sent a delicious shiver rocking through me. “Do lines like that normally work for you?” “Who said it’s a line?” His hands slipped under the hem of my shirt and coasted across my stomach. “God, you feel amazing.” “You’re a horny guy. Of course, I do.” He shook his head, his nose running along my jawline. “I may be horny, but you still feel right in my arms. I’m wondering how you’d feel beneath me.” I jerked away from his grasp, spinning to face him. “That.” I jammed my finger into his chest. “That right there is why this was a bad idea.” The traitorous hum of my body persisted as the lights flashed across his confused face. “It’s like you’re capable of being normal for like two minutes then you turn into an asshole. I don’t get it. And I’m over it.”

Watching You

(Hollywood Heat #1)
Published by: Forever Yours
Publication date: March 13th 2018
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense
In the first book of a thrilling new romantic suspense trilogy, USA Today bestselling author Leslie A. Kelly shows just how hot – and how dangerous – Hollywood can be.
In the shadows, someone is always watching

Aspiring screenwriter Jessica Jensen grew up on movies starring heartthrob Reece Winchester, the eldest brother of a Hollywood dynasty. She never thought she’d meet the man in person, though. Actor, director, millionaire, and gorgeous mystery man-he’s every woman’s fantasy.
Reece wants Jessica the moment he sees her, and he’s a man who always gets what he wants. At first he was only after a night in her bed, but as he comes to know the smart, confident woman beneath the stunning exterior, he realizes once will never be enough.
Unfortunately, Jessica’s real-life Cinderella story is about to take a deadly turn…
Reece’s world is filled with fierce ambition and dark family secrets the Winchesters desperately want to hide. But he and his brothers aren’t the only ones who know those secrets. Someone else is out there, waiting to strike. Waiting-and always watching.
When danger finally steps out of the shadows, Reece will have to face his past. And Jessica will have to decide just how far she can trust the man she loves with her heart…and her life.

Jess was so lost in thought about Reece the superstar she forgot the man was in the room, and that she’d imagined he was staring at her. Which was perhaps why she nearly dropped her glass when she felt a tall, solid form move behind her and heard a man say, “Interesting.”
Smooth voice. Deep, silky. A voice she recognized. She’d heard it on the big screen and the small one, since she had copies of every movie he’d starred in—seven from his childhood years, eight from his adult ones. Was he really talking to her?
“Yes, it is,” she murmured, all calm and collected, like she was not shaking in her consignment store shoes.
“Possibly one of the artist’s earlier efforts.”
Hmm. How had he known? “Yes,” Miss Conversational Genius repeated.
“I’m not interrupting, am I?”
The hint of confidence in the tone told her he knew the answer. Had any woman ever told him to go away because he was bothering her? Huh. Doubtful. “Not at all.”
“Good. What is it called?”
“What we’re doing? I think it’s a conversation.” Jess didn’t know where the snarky response came from, or where she’d gotten the nerve to be all quippy with the guy, but there you go. That was her, always a mouth-off away from catastrophe.
“I meant the sculpture,” he said. No laugh. No humor. Crap.
Realizing they were actually going to have a conversation, and knowing it might require face-to-face interaction, she wondered if she was ready for it. Hesitating, she licked her lips and replied, “It’s called Naked Man.”
“Subtle.”
Knowing it was rude not to face him, she took a deep breath and glanced over her shoulder. Lord have mercy.
Deep breaths might be calming in normal situations—like when one was confronted by a repo man repossessing a car. Been there, done that. But they didn’t work at all when looking into the clear amber eyes of a man every woman on the planet fantasized about. His looks made you silently gawk while you tried to figure out why the arrangement of cheek and jaw, mouth and eyes, was so arresting and unforgettable. She interacted with scruffy, shaggy-haired surf-bum types in the bar where she worked, so she’d almost forgotten how appealing a conservative haircut and a smoothly shaven face could be. Not to mention the sexiness of a perfectly tailored power suit, the charcoal color interrupted only by a splash of red in the necktie.
She finally cleared her throat and pushed a few words out. “It is from very early in the artist’s career. How did you know?”
“She draped the sex organs, as if she wasn’t quite ready to go there.”
Jess nodded, wondering if she was truly talking about men’s packages with the sexiest freaking man alive. Was this really happening, or was she hallucinating? Had that stupid bartender slipped GHB in her drink? Damn, if she woke up tomorrow with no memory of what happened, and then found videos of herself on YouTube, she would rip him a new one.

Lady Evelyn Carlisle has returned home to England, where she is
completing her degree at St. Hugh’s, a women’s college in Oxford. Her

is well until a fateful morning, when her peaceful student life is
turned on its head. Stumbling upon the gruesome killing of someone she
thought she knew, Evelyn is plunged into a murder investigation once
more, much to the chagrin of her friends and family, as well as the
intriguing Detective Lucas Stanton. The dreaming spires of Oxford begin

polished veneer. Can she solve the crime before the killer strikes once
more, this time to Evelyn’s own detriment?

My hair is tangled, a loose knot at the nape of my neck, where my head rests
against the cool stone wall. I close my eyes and see it all swimming like a
dream beneath my lids. And him, always him. I open my eyes, still here. Still here. The thought echoes in my
mind as if I have spoken it aloud, and it is bouncing from the uncaring walls
of this chamber.
            Suddenly, from somewhere above and
beyond comes the sound of clanging metal. A door opens and with a screech is
shut again. Closed. Secured. Barred. Steps follow. Slow, reluctant steps. One,
two, three . . . I want to lose myself in the monotony of the rhythm. I grow
used to it, even enjoy it, when the steps suddenly cease once more. Silence.
Then nearby, another metallic cry. A key is turned in a rusty lock. A door is
opened. A door. My door. Steps again. Two this time. Only a small space to
cross. I notice his shoes first. They gleam in the low light. Attached to the
shoes, a man in a dour black suit. I look up at his face, but perceive only
shadow, dark lines. Squinting, I make no effort to get to my feet. There is no
pretending we are equals now. He has no choice, but to crouch to my level. I
have brought him down with me. To me.
"Do you have anything to say?"
His face is close, and I am shocked
by his youth. I had expected gray temples and furrowed brows. He is younger
than I, not by much perhaps, but nonetheless. His eyes meet mine. Can I speak
to him? Should I tell him the truth, my
truth? A sudden bang from a place beyond these walls makes him flinch and he
tears his gaze from mine, only for a moment, but it is decisive.
His voice is quiet, calm . . . kind? "My child, speak."
A warbled laugh escapes my dry
throat. My child. I am no one's child
any longer. The words are ludicrous coming from this man, this frightened boy
in an adult's body. He wants to be here nearly as little as I, and fights with
himself not to recoil at the sudden sound erupting from my mouth. I frighten
him. I, a helpless creature sitting at his feet, frighten him. Another choked
laugh.
            "Shall I get you some
water."
            Water.  I shake my head.
"Will you not let me hear
you?" I am struck by his earnest expression, nothing like the permanent
mask of stern reprimand, the looks of disgust I have received these past weeks.
Could I tell him? Might he understand? It would not change my fate. But someone
else would know the truth. Before I can think of reasons to stay silent, before
I can begin to understand the consequences, my words pour out. The last words I
will ever speak find compassionate ears. Once spoken, they cannot be unspoken,
and when I complete my tale, my truth, I am empty. There is nothing more and I
am nothing more.
The light is so bad I cannot tell
whether he has paled at my confession. Our eyes meet in the gloom, glowing
embers. He watches me for another moment, then gets to his feet, brushes his
trousers and walks the few steps back to the door. I hear him rap the thick
wood twice. Then the lock is turned.
He speaks once more, his words run
through me like flour through a sieve. Nothing sticks. Nothing stays. I am water
and he is oil. The door clatters shut and his steps fade away.
            I am alone.

Interview with Malia Zaidi:

How did you come up with name of this book?
Lady Evelyn is herself studying in Oxford, but the book is also about the study of her surroundings, particularly after a murder takes place. The silence aspect refers both to the fact that people are keeping secrets and unwilling to be truthful, and to a specific character about whom I think I won’t say any more for fear f spoiling the story☺

Do you read yourself and if so what is your favorite genre?
I LOVE to read and do so all the time. My favorite genre is te one I write in, mystery, but I read amost every genre. Historical fiction and literary fiction are also quite predominant on my to-read list.

Do you prefer to write in silence or with noise? Why?
I definitely prefer silence, though I don’t mind a bit of music. I am generally a person who likes a quiet environment and I struggle to concentrate on my work when there is a lot of noise and stimulation around,

What do you feel you can accomplish with this book?
I want to entertain my readers, first and foremost. I hope the mystery is engaging and the story thought-provoking. The Lady Evelyn Mysteries are all set in the years between the two wars, which was a time in which some people flourished and others, particularly those affected by the First World War, were often left behind. It is also a time in which women achieved greater independence, gaining the right to vote and growing more educated and able to partake in university life as Lady Evelyn does in The Study of Silence.

What is your next project?
I am working on another book in the Lady Evelyn series, but have also recently finished another book in a different genre, so expect something a little different coming from me soon.

Prologue

Dark hair swirled around the faces of two figures looking down on the lights of a
city far below. They stood motionless on a precipice, unmoved by the wind and
pelting rain. Sharp daggers, gilded and set with precious stones, hung from
scabbards hidden beneath long coats that billowed with each gust.
“Does she know?” the smaller one asked, heavy-lidded eyes focused on the
distant horizon.
“The old woman is afraid. She wants to protect her, but she knows what is at
stake,” the taller man replied. Golden rays flecked his eyes, mirroring a sun that
had yet to show its face.
“The Germans know where she hides,” the first said in a heavily accented
voice. “She will be dead within a fortnight. She may die before the secret can be
passed on.”
The tall man’s eyes flashed, but his face remained stoic. “The woman is
afraid, but she is not a fool. She will alert the girl in some way.”
Gazing toward an unknown future, their silent stares vanished into the
roaring sky. “It won’t be easy this time. The world is gearing up for war, and
they know this is their last chance. They’ll be desperate,” the short man said.
The tall figure nodded and turned, his trench coat fluttering.
“What now, Emir?” the man at the ledge asked.
“We wait,” the man called Emir replied, disappearing into the darkness. “We

wait until Riley Dale decides whether or not she values her life.”

The
Peace Keeper
The
Soul Mender Trilogy Book 2

Safe
in her own world, Riley Dale should finally be able to put the
horrifying experience in the parallel universe behind her. But as she
processes recent events, business as usual is not an option. Her
allies are still in big trouble.

To
rescue her friends, Riley ventures back into the parallel world she
had tried so hard to escape from. As her path winds through a maze of
twisted history and familial legend, she finds herself blocked by
both her attitude and insecurities, as well as by her enemies.

And
those enemies are becoming desperate.

As
each version of the world and her opponents grow more volatile, Riley
must cast aside her own weakness and accept the mantle of Electa if
she can ever hope to save humanity from a devastating end.

The
World Binder
The
Soul Mender Trilogy Book 3

Riley’s
allies are scattered, broken, or dead. In one universe, an army
stands ready to destroy the East. In the other, a biological weapon
threatens to wipe out the West. Despite the looming devastation, she
is no closer to restoring balance to humanity.

As
Riley trains to use the ring her grandmother left her and works to
find a way to bind the worlds, terrifying new visions plague her.
Unearthed betrayals lead Riley to painful truths and hopeless
revelations about those she thought she could trust.

Even
about people she loves.

As
her enemies circle and her friends falter, Riley must race to find
answers lost to ancient memory in the sands surrounding what was once
the Garden of Eden. Healing the world may demand she sacrifice all
she holds dear—even her own chance to witness the peace she’s
fought so hard for.

Debut
author R.S. Dabney’s passion for reading, writing, and exploring
thrilling stories about unlikely heroes conquering evil started at a
young age, culminating in the completion of her first novel, The Soul
Mender, book one in The Soul Mender Trilogy. Her favorite books span
every genre and she likes to describe her own work as having
something for everyone—a sprinkle of suspense, a dash of adventure,
and a whole lot of good versus evil.

R.S.
grew up running around the red rocks and ravines in the deserts of
southern Utah, building forts, fighting battles, and living the lives
of all the characters she and her friends created. An avid lover of
all things nature and the outdoors, R.S. attended Texas A&M
University where she majored in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation and
minored in Park and Natural Resource Management. She worked for the
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for three years before leaving to
pursue her dream of writing a novel.

She
currently lives in the Big Bend region of Texas with her husband, two
dogs, and cat. When she isn’t lost in another dimension creating
havoc for her characters and stories, she enjoys mountain biking,
exploring the desert, and eating way too much Mexican food.

EXCERPT:
Jake pulled out the dagger he always carried with them and crouched down to slice open the ropes that had caught the Fae and banged her against the side of the ship hard enough to knock her out. He had no idea why someone this powerful – and he could tell power from the way her skin was shimmering even when she was unconscious – would have let herself get close enough to the ship to get captured in the nets, but none of that mattered. What mattered was that she was going to wake up furious any minute now and nobody wanted an angry Fae within shouting distance. Especially not on anything as fragile as this ship. There was steel, certainly, and steel still had power over the Fae. But wood and vinyl and other materials had been used to fabricate this ship, and nobody would want to be around to see what a powerful Fae could do to a ship—or her crew—when she was furious.
Especially not Jake.
“She doesn’t have a tail, see? Not a mermaid,” he repeated as he kept cutting, hoping none of them would ask about the translucent scales that covered her legs and most of her body.
“I don’t think so, Surf Boy,” an almost comically squeaky voice said. That is, you might think it was comical until you looked up and saw the mountain of a man speaking. Bangles, so called because of his tendency to wear dozens of gold and silver bracelets, was only a few inches shy of seven feet tall and sometimes, like when he was looming over Jake right at this minute, seemed to be almost as wide. The first mate was too big, too ugly, and too mean for anybody ever to make fun of his voice.
Jake had heard that the last person who did so was currently decorating the inside of a shark’s belly, and he’d been in pieces before the shark got to him.
“She’s a mermaid, and she’s ours,” Bangles yelled, playing to the crowd surrounding him. “We caught her, so we keep her. Finders keepers.”
“Still not a mermaid,” Jake said, sighing.
BOOM.
Jake struggled to keep his balance when the blow struck his side of the ship. The Kraken was not kidding around.
