The Revolutionist by Robert Tucker

The Revolutionist by Robert M. Tucker

Publication Date: December 3, 2017
Wise Words Publishing
Hardcover, Paperback & eBook; 600 Pages

Genre: Historical/Action Adventure

Two different families escape from the political tyranny of their respective homelands, the Josephsons from Sweden and Matias and Kurt Bauman, brothers from Germany and Austria Hungary, with the aid of a Viennese opera diva, Sophie Augusta Rose, and Jean Guenoc, a former Jesuit priest, family friend and protector and partisan of the French underground.

Their journey brings them to America in the throes of the industrial revolution during the 1890s and early 1900s. Ingrid and Olaf Josephson settle on a small wheat farm in North Central Minnesota to raise their children, Newt and Julie.

Among the Jewish entrepreneurs forced to leave Germany and Austria-Hungary, Matias and Kurt Bauman re-establish their transportation company in Chicago, Illinois.

In search of a secret list of insurgent social democrats, the bounty hunter assassin, Luther Baggot, tracks his victims to the American heartland. Following the murder of their mother and father, Newt, Julie, and their friends, Aaron and Beth Peet, hide from the killer in a Northern Minnesota logging camp. Believing the children have taken possession of the list, Luther tracks them down.

Fleeing to a central Minnesota town, the four young people come across a remote business location of Bauman Enterprises and meet Matias Bauman, who had been a friend and former political collaborator with Newt’s and Julie’s parents. He takes them all to Chicago where a different world opens up to them as they are thrust into the turmoil and violence of an urban society and economy careening into the new century.

Excerpt 2

As the temperature dropped, within a week, Julie noticed the river transformed to stillness sealed over with sheet ice.  She knew it wasn’t thick enough to walk on, because she could see surging air bubbles through the gray frozen structure. Once the ice was sufficiently a few feet thick, the teamsters could drive their horses and sleighs up and down the river as a road. The caulks on the horses’ shoes would prevent them from slipping and losing their footing.
Two weeks later, Jack Moulton, the foreman, ordered test holes to be cut along two miles near the shore and at the center of the river.  He granted his approval and the teams and crews cadged and skidded more logs from the woods and made more trips given the quick access from the main camp.  The harvest grew so rapidly that additional log dumps were established at spaced intervals along steep areas of the bank where the logs could be skidded downhill into the river after the spring thaw.
Using her smaller ax and shovel, Julie continued to clear side brush and work with Charlie Brandt’s gang.  There was less road work to be done, since a tank crew would go out the night before and plough the snow aside on the trails.   Then they would fill a sealed wooden tank from barrels of water taken through a hole blasted in the river ice. The tank was mounted on a sleigh and dispensed water as it was pulled by a team of horses.  The water instantly froze to create a roadway of slick ice over which the sleigh runners could pass with ease.
Julie’s task was to fill small holes gouged out by the sleigh runners after they passed.  Five or six of the chickadees were shoveling snow and giping or fixing holes as fast as they appeared.  Once grooves were established by repeated passing along the road, the sleighs would stay in the tracks.
Charlie told her that after two or three big freezes, the ice was solid enough to hold the weight of a team and a sleigh filled with logs.  Because they could use the frozen river as a road, Jack Moulton ordered the crews to increase the size and height of the loads by adding logs that towered two and three times above the teams.
Julie was standing on top of one of the banks at a log dump that overlooked where an iced side road connected to the new track.  She saw Aaron drive his team off the trail out onto the ice and head down the center of the frozen river channel. Then she heard the heart-rending crack before the ice began to break.
Aaron instantly tried to guide the team away from the area and back toward the bank, but it was too late.  The ice separated in massive chunks and the load sank into the frigid water, the weight pulling the horses down.  They thrashed and neighed, their eyes rolling in terror at the weight and the freezing current pulling them under.
Aaron leaped from the top of the descending log pile which managed to momentarily stay afloat.  He staggered and crawled across the surface of the ice in an attempt to reach the animals.  He slipped into the water with them and frantically pulled at the fastenings of their harness to free them, but they were going under too fast and the loaded sleigh was closing over them from behind.  Aaron would be crushed and forced downward with the animals unless he escaped from the widening hole.
Helmut Haas and Bill Shelly came shouting and running along the bank.  They scrambled out onto the ice, dropped to their stomachs and crawled as close as they could to the jagged edge of the opening, and extended their canthooks to within Aaron’s reach.  He managed to grasp one and Bill pulled back and dragged him to where he could reach over the edge of the hole where Helmut dragged him out by his arms.
Aaron gasped and cried in anguish as he watched his beloved team disappear in a churning froth of bubbles, smothered by the tonnage of logs pressing them down to their death.
Julie ran along the bank and crossed the river upstream to meet Aaron and his rescuers on the opposite side.  Aaron shook in spasms from his near drowning.  Ice formed on his clothing and his skin took on a blue pallor.  He was unable to move.
“Got to get him to a fire and out of these clothes,” said Bill.
Being the larger of the two men, Helmut hefted Aaron over his shoulder and, with Bill supporting him, struggled up the bank to higher ground.
“Build a fire!” he shouted to the gathering bystanders.  “Build it now!”
Julie followed closely and gathered up cut branches wherever she could find them in the snow to contribute to the life-saving fire.  She saw a logger swing his ax to bring down a small pine and chop out the punk for kindling.
Helmut and Bill peeled off Aaron’s boots and clothes and wrapped him in their own mackinaws as the makings of the fire came together and the sticks and small logs converted to flames.  Helmut rubbed and massaged Aaron’s limbs to restore his circulation.  His teeth chattered uncontrollably as he struggled to breathe.
Other loggers built up the snapping crackling blaze until Helmut and Bill were holding him in a crouch before a roaring bonfire.  Until she tasted salt tears at the corners of her lips, Julie didn’t realize she was crying.
Once the crews returned to camp that evening, Jack Moulton announced that the frozen river would no longer be used as a route to haul logs.

Interview with Robert Tucker:

Do your characters seem to hijack the story or do you feel like you have the reins of the story?

The characters are integral to the story.  The lives of the characters tend to influence the direction of the plot rather than my imposing the plot on them. I place the characters into planned situations, conflicts, and events and see and experience their world from their eyes. This approach enhances the verisimilitude or authenticity of the characters and their world for me as a writer (walking in their shoes) and ultimately for the reader. Recreating the lives of the characters becomes the foundation of their story that expands to myriad others in the context of historical events at the turn of the twentieth century.

Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.

The Revolutionist offers an unusual entertaining, dynamic story populated with colorfully drawn characters, dramatic tension, a sense of immediacy, and a cinematic visual style.

The historical chronology and events capture a reader’s attention for many reasons, among them being a plot that entertains, educates, and informs. In writing this novel, I was drawn into the societies and cultures of a particular period that inspire the creation of characters who bring that era to life.
The Revolutionist will take a reader into the exploration of new territory outside of his or her life.
Personal integrity is a powerful recurring theme.
I think the issues and conflicts in this story are manifested in different societies and cultures every day. Throughout the world and locally all around us, people are struggling against tyranny and injustice to have good meaningful lives in ways that matter to them. I believe readers will identify with the lives of the characters and what happens to them.

Have you written any other books that are not published?

Tell-Tale Publishing and its affiliate, Wise Words Publishing will be bringing out a sequel to The Revolutionist entitled The Saga of Burton Blake. In addition, two more literary novels are under contract for publication, Sidewalk and A Seed of Grain. Two additional feminist literary novels have been submitted, Eye of The Sparrow and The Discontent of Mary Wenger. I’m currently writing a companion novel to The Discontent of Mary Wenger entitled Paper Dolls.
On the urban fantasy side, four novels of the Black Spiral series are contracted for publication. The Funnies, an allegorical fantasy satire is also contracted for publication

Pen or type writer or computer?

I compile copious hand-written notes during research and as inspiration occurs at odd moments day or night. I write the manuscript on the computer and value its flexibility in composition and in making editorial changes.

Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

As the grandson of immigrants who fled persecution in Germany and Austria-Hungary and came to America during the early 1900’s, the early history of our country and the rise of the middle-class have always held a fascination for me.  The dramatic depiction of fictional characters placed in actual events sharply and realistically bring alive the harsh times and adversity of the multitude of people who sought freedom and a better way of life and demonstrate that only a little over one-hundred years have passed to bring us to where we are as a society today.
I am very interested in hearing from you about your personal reading experience with The Revolutionist and would be happy to respond to your comments and questions.

A horrifying encounter drags soon-to-be-married Maria Landro into the shocking world of religious corruption and an unrelenting village code of honor that threatens to rob her of everything she holds dear. In a desperate attempt to protect her child from vicious tongues and malicious hate-mongers and her family farm from bankruptcy, she determines to seek vengeance against the one who ruined her life. "Beautifully written historical novel. Excellent characters, dramatic plot. Beautifully written, giving wonderful feeling for the setting in place and time. Emotionally intense situations, satisfying resolution. Among the two or three best novels I have read this year. Highly recommended." - Dr. Donn Taylor, Author & Former University Professor of Literature

Excerpt:

Book 2: A SICILIAN FAREWELL

Dusk fell in Luca Tonetta’s tailor shop as he counted his meager earnings from his
past week of work. His revenue had dropped fifty percent in the last week alone. Not good. Especially since he had a wife and three young children to support.
And two months of back rent due to his landlord, Silvestro Lamponi, the man who owned the building in which Luca’s shop was located.
At this rate, Luca would soon be bankrupt if he didn’t do something fast. Besides, Silvestro was none too happy and had made it clear that, if Luca did not pay up, he’d be evicted.
Luca’s stomach tightened as he returned the few coins to the leather pouch in which he kept his earnings. Prospects for a financial turn-around here in Pisano were few and far between. With Italy’s recent devastating defeat at the hands of Ethiopia in the Battle of Adwa, Sicily had felt the blow more than the mainland. No wonder so many were leaving the island for better opportunities elsewhere. The newspaper headlines that very morning had warned of an imminent economic collapse and reported a mass exodus of men from the island.
Luca rubbed his face. What would the mass exodus mean for his business? Already, the clothes racks of his tailor shop, usually full of finished projects by the end of the day, now held only a few items, while the coffers at the end of the workday held one-fourth the revenues compared to this same date a year ago. In recent weeks, the number of customers had dwindled drastically as more and more men left Pisano—and the entire island—for better opportunities abroad. At first, it had been the lure of wealth that drew them. But now, it was the lure of survival.
Luca raked his fingers through his hair. He had to do something fast—something that would allow no option for failure. If he failed in his role as provider and protector, he’d never be able to look himself in the mirror again. Nothing else mattered more.
As if the economic decline were not bad enough, productivity from Bella Terra, his wife’s family farm, had dropped drastically. Last spring’s drought had nearly destroyed the entire orange and lemon crops, and their vegetable staples of green peppers, zucchini, and string beans had fallen far short of yielding their usual bounty.
              Things did not look good.
Luca exhaled a long breath. What could he do that would assure him of financial success and, at the same time, not put his family in difficulty? Should he join those who were leaving the island, or should he make a last-ditch effort to rescue his business from a looming death?
The latter choice seemed pretty bleak. Among the large numbers of the population leaving Sicily—and especially Pisano—were those who would have been potential customers.
He shook his head as the weight of the decision settled in the pit of his stomach.
He placed the leather pouch in the wooden box where he stored his weekly earnings and locked it. The thought of having to close the tailor shop he’d taken over from his late father and built to a thriving business sickened him. Made him feel like a traitor to his father.
And a coward in the face of challenge.

Return to Bella Terra by Maryann Diorio

Publication Date: October 26, 2017
TopNotch Press
Paperback & eBook; 242 Pages

Series: The Italian Chronicles, Book Three
Genre: Historical Fiction/Religious

A mother, her son, and the man who threatens to come between them . . .

When Maria Landro Tonetta receives word that Mama is terminally ill, Maria travels to her Sicilian homeland with her son Nico. She finds herself yearning for the life she once knew as a child on Bella Terra, the family farm, now on the verge of bankruptcy. Caught between two worlds, Maria dreams of moving back to Sicily with her husband and children to save the farm. When Nico’s biological father unexpectedly appears at Mama’s funeral, Maria faces a new enemy to her dream. But is there an even greater enemy within her own soul?

"Each book in the Italian Chronicles series made me want to read the next one. Now I would like to see another spin-off series dealing with the next generation. The characters in MaryAnn Diorio's book feel so real. They have flaws. They seek better relationships. They suffer and they rejoice. Just like us. There are people in their lives who help strengthen their faith, and there are those who undermine their faith. In this third book, Maria has to face letting go of many things, and only through seeking God first can she do that. Along with messages of faith and family, Return to Bella Terra takes you to Italy, and the vicarious experience is wonderful. Diorio sprinkles just enough Italian words (in italic) throughout the text to give you the sense of being there. You can smell the food, hear the music, and see the beautiful countryside. I highly recommend this series and any other books written by MaryAnn Diorio.” - Claudia Cuddy, Former Professor of Communications

 Interview with MaryAnn Diorio

1. What is your favorite part of each book and why?

My favorite part of each book is the internal struggle of my main characters—their emotional, psychological  and spiritual struggle—that results in their realization of the power of forgiveness and their total dependence on God.

2. If you could spend time with a character from your book whom would it be? And what would you do during that day?

I would spend time with little Nico in Book One, THE MADONNA OF PISANO.  I love children and would spend the day playing games with him, talking about Jesus, and eating ice cream.

3. If you could have been the author of any book ever written, which book would you choose?

I would not have wanted to be the author of any other book ever written since writing that book would not have been God’s will for me.  I want to write only those books God has called me to write.

4. Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

My heroine, Maria, evolved from a situation that occurred in my great-great-grandmother’s life.  Since I never met my great-great-grandmother, I had to imagine what she was like.  As for the rest of my characters, they came mostly from my imagination.  I did combines traits of people I know into my characters, but no character is based entirely on a particular person I know.

5. What made you want to become a writer?

God called me to write for Him. I simply responded affirmatively to His call. I never intended to be a writer. My goal was to spend my life teaching foreign languages at  the university level. (I hold the PhD in French with a concentration in Comparative Literature). But God had other plans for me—far better plans! :)  God’s ways are always far better than our ways. :)

Shadow World are intertwined within her DNA. She has never craved
attention. She just wants to be able to live as normal life as she
can. But she's about to find that even though she's uniquely
unwelcome wherever she goes, her abilities also make her the best
chance the Shadow World has to stop a threat to all the Shadow races.
Once arriving home, Racquel finds that greater evils exist and that
the person she cares for most in this world, her half-sister Addie,
has been kidnapped along with other Shadow World beings. Racquel

her dead than alive. As her journey continues, Racquel learns more
about herself, what she is capable of, and that not every being looks
at her as an abomination. Coy, a human captive that Racquel saves
from the Vampires, starts showing kindness toward her. Racquel tries
putting distance between her and the human boy but as they spend more
time together it becomes harder and harder for Racquel to fight the

even among her fellow werewolves, shape-shifters, vampires, and

saving her sister and a number of other kidnapped Shadows from a
diabolical plot to create a Shadow army, many have found a new
respect for Racquel, but she is far from accepted in Shadow society,
and the evil is far from over. To complicate matters, Racquel now
finds herself torn between two brothers. Coy is caring and has helped
Racquel through her struggles, and Micah, who Racquel has only met
once but who is somehow, having dream conversations with him. Racquel
becomes torn between following her heart while breaking it at the
same time. In the second installment of the Shadow World series,
Racquel and her sister Addie face off with the Shadow leaders against
a threat that could bring the world to its knees. Power will be
pushed to its limit, hearts will be broken, and some will pay the
ultimate price as Racquel and her group of Shadows fight against an
ancient evil that is determined to make the earth bleed and Racquel
with it.

Sacrifice:
A New Dawn
The
Shadow World Trilogy Book 3

Racquel
was once uniquely unwelcome, an outcast in both the human and Shadow
worlds. In desperation, the Shadows—the loose alliance of Vampires,
Werewolves, Witches, Shape Shifters and Faeries—turned to Racquel
for help against the sorceress Cerelia, who threatened all Shadows.
Now that Racquel has protected the Shadows by defeating Cerelia, it
seems like things are picking up. Racquel is ready to challenge the
Shadows’ Ruling Council on the injustice of the laws that made her
and her family outcasts among the Shadows, and which is causing
suffering among her friends. Racquel has little time to enjoy her
victory. Micah, an innocent subjected to experiments by Cerelia and
now the only other person in the world like Racquel, is summoned to
appear before the Ruling Council to be examined. The Council has
already warned that if Micah is deemed to be “unclean” and a
threat to the Shadows, he will be executed. And there are agendas
hidden in agendas, as well. A secret faction wants to challenge
Racquel, who they still see as being an unclean creature due to her
mixed-Shadow heritage. Worse still, the mysterious prophecy made by
Kaya, queen of the Fay, is about to become true, and Racquel is about
to be faced with her deepest fear: that she is still unwelcome in the
world. Betrayed trust and a new danger to the Shadow world are
waiting for Racquel, and in the end, she may have to make the
ultimate sacrifice in order to save the world and her friends from
destruction.

EXCERPT

 PROLOGUE

Sarah loved her life as an attending physician.  Everything she had worked for had finally come to fruition.  As the attending on call and in charge of the general OB/GYN residents, Sarah took her responsibilities seriously, especially the teaching of the new residents and medical students.  Tonight, should have been an easy night, but as with everything related to babies, you could just never tell, and the full moon wasn’t helping.

As Sarah stood at the charge nurse desk, filling out paperwork from her fifth delivery of the night she smiled.  Five new lives and five ecstatic families.  Her motivation for wanting this job was simple.  She loved the look of joy on the new parents faces as they held their bundle of joy for the first time.  While she handled most of the deliveries when she was on call, Lincoln and a few of the more senior providers tended to handle the VIP patients and their deliveries, and tonight was no exception.  Sarah looked up to see Dr. Lincoln Montgomery stride into the labor and delivery area of the hospital.  He looked tired and a little haggard, but she knew it was from the lack of sleep since his wife, Nicole, was overdue and not making life easy on him.

“Good evening, Lincoln.  What brings you in tonight?”

“Hey, Sarah.  Rhett Akers wife went into labor, and he’s one of my VIPs and well between us, future employees.  I needed to come in and do the delivery.  They’re so excited about their first baby.”

Sarah smiled outwardly, but groaned inwardly.  Rhett was an all-star catcher for the Braves, but most importantly, he was best friends with one Harrison Cooper.  The one man she had tried to avoid for ten years, and had been pretty successful up to this point.  However, she felt like tonight her luck was going to run out.  “Well, boss.  Good luck with that.”

“Thanks, you don’t like the Akers?”

“No.  I think they’re wonderful.  His wife’s awesome.  No matter what, she always has a smile on her face and is so complimentary towards the staff.  She actually gives the wives and girlfriends a good name.  I just wish they were all like that.”

“So, what’s got you twitchy?   Before you say anything, I can see through you so I know it’s something.”

“I…hell, Lincoln I’ve been trying to avoid his best friend for ten years, also another future employee of yours, and I’ve been pretty successful.  His best friend is Harrison’s father, only he doesn’t know that he’s his father.”

“Well, shit.  That sounds…complicated.  Just out of curiosity, why doesn’t he know that he is the father?”

“I was told he was already a baby daddy when we were dating, I left him and never spoke to him again.  I didn’t find out I was pregnant until after graduation, and I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of leaving a trail of baby mommas all over the place.”

Lincoln studied her carefully before speaking.  “This is just friendly advice, but keeping a secret like that can come back to haunt you in the end.  However, you’re an adult, and I respect your wishes and right to privacy.  Just know that if you need anything we’re all here for you.”

Before Sarah could thank him, she heard Lincoln’s phone ring.  As she stood there waiting for him to finish the call, she noticed that his face went white.  She didn’t know what the other side of the conversation was, but she was pretty sure it was Nicole telling him that she had gone into labor.

Finally, Lincoln disconnected the call and looked at Sarah.  “So, I need a favor.  Nicole’s gone into labor.  Marcie is bringing everyone here, but I’ll be tied up with delivering Landon.  I’m so sorry to put this on you, and if you aren’t comfortable with it, I can call one of the other attendings, but I really need you to handle the deliver for the Akers.”

Sarah took a deep breath and thought about her options.  She felt that she had become the consummate professional and there was no need to inconvenience any of her colleagues.  Anyway, it wasn’t like Harrison was going to be in the delivery room with them.  “No problem, Lincoln.  I already know Mrs. Akers and it should be a smooth delivery.  I’d be happy to do this for you, so that you can go bring your own bundle of joy into the world.  Just remember when you have a girl, she gets named after me.”  Sarah said with a laugh.

A little while later, Lincoln took Sarah into see the Akers and explain the situation.  They were both very happy to have her do the delivery, but as she was about to leave the room, Rhett gently took her arm and led her over to the side of the room.

“I know you, don’t I?  I can’t place it, but I know we have met before and not at the doctor’s office.”

Sarah’s face blanched as she looked into the piercing green eyes of the all-star catcher.  She could either lie and try to live with it or tell him the truth and deal with the consequences.  After everything she had been through, the one thing that Dr. Cole Ryan had taught her and had stuck with her the most was to love yourself and embrace who you are.  Finally, she looked at Rhett and said, “Yes, we knew each other, many years ago when we were at Georgia together.”

Suddenly a look of recognition took over Rhett’s face.  “Shit, I mean shoot.  Sorry I’m trying to quit the cussing thing with the baby coming and all, but I work around ballplayers all day and they sort of use cuss words as a normal part of their vocabulary.  What I meant to say was, you were Harrison’s girlfriend.  You’re the one…”  Before he could finish his statement, his wife Alexa started screaming as another contraction began to wrack her body.

Sarah went to the bedside and checked the monitors.  Everything seemed to be progressing normally.  She called the anesthesiologists on call to get the epidural started.  Once she was confident that everything was as it should be, she left the room to do her follow-ups on the patients she’d already delivered, but as she walked away, something was niggling at her brain.  He had said ‘I was the one who…’ and never got to finish.  I was the one who what?  Broke his heart, turned him gay.  Sarah laughed at that last thought.  What did I do?  Because he sure as hell broke me and left me with a hole in my heart.  Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she proceeded to make her rounds and check in with her residents.

After rounds, she went back to check on Mrs. Akers and found that she was progressing nicely already dilated to 10 cm and at a +2 station.  She knew it wouldn’t be long, so she had the staff rearrange the bed and get the Akers ready to welcome their daughter into the world.  After twenty-five minutes of pushing, crying, and screaming, the Akers welcomed a very healthy girl into the world at 8lbs 7oz and 20 inches long.  She smiled as she watched Rhett cut the cord and then placed the baby on Mrs. Akers stomach.

Harrison Cooper had never been so nervous in his entire life, and it wasn’t even his baby.  At thirty-one he’d never had to deal with a pregnant female, well not one of his doing.  He paced the waiting room looking around at his teammates who were still in town.  At least the hospital was nice enough to have a VIP waiting room so they wouldn’t be bombarded with autograph requests and whatnot.  Harrison didn’t mind signing autographs and loved the kids at the baseball stadium because he remembered what is was like when he was a kid, but this was not about him or the guys surrounding him.  This was solely about Rhett and his baby.

As Harrison paced the room, his mind took an unhealthy journey back in time.  He wondered if he would ever find someone who didn’t just want him for his fame and fortune.  Sarah was the only one he’d ever been with who cared about him as a person.  He’d spent too much time over the last ten years wondering what went wrong with them.  For the life of him, he could never figure it out.  They’d been so happy, and then one night she slapped him, ran out the door, and never spoke to him again.  She was still the last thing he thought about before he went to sleep, and the first thing he thought of when he awoke, but still he wondered what could’ve been.  Would they have a child, or hell ten children?  Well, not ten children, but would there be a little boy that looked like him, or a little girl that took after her mother.  She was the reason he had screwed his way through the minor leagues and every away game they went to, but still none of them could erase her memory.  He loved women, but he had a die-hard rule, no brunettes and no doctors.

As he tried to shake off the melancholy mood he was in, he heard it.  The voice of an angel or devil depending on the mood he was in.  The voice he dreamt of, and had spent ten years looking for.  Could his luck be changing?  Could karma finally be swinging in his direction?  Harrison was unaware that his feet were moving him towards the voice, but in a matter of a few steps, he stood before her.  The one he desired, dreamed of and hated.  She had matured into her body.  She had the curves of a woman, not the girl he had known, but nonetheless she was right there in front of him.  All he had to do was reach out and touch her.

Sarah was speaking to her nurse when she felt her body’s temperature spike and a warm feeling suffuse her entire body.  She knew what it was and who it was.  God, she’d dreaded this day for ten years, and now, it was time to pay the piper for all the things she’d done.  That rich deep voice raised goosebumps on her flesh.

Harrison stood in front of her and valiantly restrained his hands from reaching out to touch her to make sure she wasn’t an apparition and that she was really standing right there.  Finally finding his voice, he softly said, “Sarah.”

Sarah didn’t know what to do or say as he spoke her name.  All her thoughts went back to her son and the fact that he didn’t know he was a father to her child.  All the anger surfaced again at what he’d done to her.  Unable to stop herself, she raised her hand and slapped him before muttering “Asshole” and running away.
