Vacation Bride by Vicky Loebel

Author: Vicky Loebel

Narrators: Emily Beresford

Length: 5 hours 6 minutes

Series: Brides of Paradise, Book One

Publisher: Pentachronistic Press

Released: Nov. 28, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

When Anna Williams lands a spot on the Vacation Bride reality show, she's hoping to give her sick father a break from the Milwaukee winter, not win a rich husband. Which is good, because the hunky maintenance man whose broad shoulders and clear blue eyes have caught her attention is neither rich nor part of the contest, is he?

Chris Andersen was a disinherited resort brat until his uncle's family crashed their private helicopter during an argument over money. Now Chris is a secret billionaire, determined to make the Paradise Resort a success on its own. To pay for improvements, he's hosting his cousin's Internet reality series, Vacation Bride, a show where women compete to win a rich husband. The women are silly and the show's a lot of work, but the publicity seems worth it. At least until Chris finds out he may be entering the contest himself as first prize.

Vicky Loebel began her professional life as a systems programmer for NASA and moved through successively more challenging careers before settling in as a writer of tightly-plotted, romantic fiction. She lives on the slopes of Mt. Lemmon, AZ with her sister, three dogs, a rotating assortment of children, and a husband who has the patience of a saint.

Anna Williams best friend has signed up to be on The Vacation Bride reality internet show and won a spot. Problem is she broke her leg and had to have surgery to repair the break. There is no way she can go on the show. She gives her spot to Anna. Anna has no desire to go on the show but she does love the idea of an all expense paid vacation with her Father. Her father has recently had heart surgery, and she is excited to get him out of the Milwaukee winter.

Chris Andersen is a secret billionaire. He was raised as a resort Brat. Now that he is an adult he wants to make his resort the Paradise Resort. His cousin Ryan Anderson has agreed to be the bachelor on Vacation Bride, and internet reality series. Chris has agreed to host the show at Paradise Resort in order to pay for some improvements he wants. Sounds cut and dry right? Nope!! Ryan has eloped and now he cannot be the bachelor. Ryan talks Chris into taking his place.

Anna and Chris have a chance meeting. Anna plays off she is just a resort guest, and Chris plays as the Maintenance man at Paradise Resort. When they both realize they have been deceived by the other they try to be done with each other, problem is sparks have already flown.

Chris is now looking for a way out of being 1st prize in Vacation Bride. Anne and Chris come up with a plan. Where they will all win.

Vicky Loebel has done a great job with this book. I really liked th though and backstories she put into her characters. The book was sweet and clean. There were no strong sex scenes and no strong language. This is book one her new series Brides of Paradise. I will be watching for book 2.

Emily Beresford has also done a great job with the narration of the audiobook. She really brought the characters to life. You could hear the smiles and frowns in her voice. It was a pleasure to listen to her narrate this book. She kept the story flowing nicely and did not bore me with mechanical reading. If felt like she was getting into the story as much as I was.

I was gifted my copy of this book from the Author and AudioBookWorm for review purposes. The thoughts are my own.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Vicky Loebel. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

Q&A with Author Vicky Loebel
  • Tell us about the process of turning your book into an audiobook.
    • I was extremely lucky making an audiobook of “Vacation Bride” because I knew Emily Beresford from working on two previous audio projects. All I had to do for this one was email Emily to get on her production schedule and deliver the book file. She took care of the rest.
  • Do you believe certain types of writing translate better into audiobook format?
    • Humor is a challenge because you’ve got to find a narrator who can read your mind and telepathically figure out the right comic timing for the narration. I was lucky enough to find Emily before I realized how tough this is, or my fingernails might have been a lot more chewed.
  • Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    • Since this is my third audiobook, I actually did think about how well it would translate into audio while I was editing and polishing the manuscript. Specifically, I tried to keep the sentence construction a little simpler so the poor narrator could catch her breath.
  • Were there any real life inspirations behind your writing?
    • Turquoise water :) I took a lot of inspiration from research into the Caribbean and the US Virgin Islands -- gazing longingly through webcams, watching Caribbean shows on cable TV. My secret hope is to inspire a lot of future tropical vacations.
  • Are you an audiobook listener? What about the audiobook format appeals to you?
    • I love audiobooks! I started checking them out from the library (remember CDs?) years ago to listen to while commuting, and they quickly expanded to brighten chores, exercise, and rocking babies at two in the morning. Along the way, I saw the added dimension a great narrator brings to a story and discovered many new authors while sampling books by beloved narrators. In my opinion, it’s perfect,
  • Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook performance than in the book format?
    • Emily really provides the sense of wonder that my heroine Anna feels exploring the Virgin Islands and encountering unexpected luxuries, like her visit to a megayacht.
  • How did you celebrate after finishing this novel?
    • Well, let’s see, there was the megayacht cruise to the US Virgin Islands...oh wait...that was a dream. In real life, we threw a terrific Facebook launch party with games, gift cards, and tropical-themed prizes. It was a hoot!
  • In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of writing a stand-alone novel vs. writing a series?
    • I think that both as a writer and reader, there’s nothing more satisfying than to fall in love with a place and group of characters and then go back and revisit them for additional romance and adventure. On the other hand, stand-alone novels sometimes have a little more freshness and energy.
  • Have any of your characters ever appeared in your dreams?
    • They like to show up at the end of a project and tell me all the much wittier things they would have said if I’d listened to them in the first place. Thank goodness for revisions!

Samantha
Jacobey -
Anyone
who knows me could tell you, I am a friendly kind of person, never
met a stranger and take up conversations any where at any time. I
work hard, and my mind never seems to shut down, as I wake up often
in the middle of the night with ideas pouring out and demanding to be
dealt with. Of course that means much of my books were written in the
middle of the night.

I
grew up and still live in the great state of Texas where everything
is bigger, where we have warm weather and a central location. I love
my state, my town, and my family, which includes my four sons, my
significant other, and many friends as well.

I
have thoroughly enjoyed writing the books that are currently
available and hope you will enjoy reading them just as much. And of
course, there will be many more stories to come.

Rebekah
Dodson

is a prolific word weaver of romance, fantasy, and science fiction
novels. Her works include the series Postcards from Paris, The
Surrogate, The Curse of Lanval series, several stand alone novels,
and her upcoming YA novel, Clock City. She has been writing her whole
life, with her first published work of historical fiction with 4H
Clubs of America at the age of 12, and poetry at the age of 16 with
the National Poetry Society. With an extensive academic background
including education, history, psychology and English, she currently
works as a college professor by day and a writer by night.

Desiree
Scott
I
have been writing since I was sixteen years old and love to write
both horror and romantic suspense. I think there have been many
influences within my life that has set me on the path that I can not
help but walk. A few of those names consist of Karen Rose, Lisa
Gardener, Nora Roberts, Cynthia Eden, Catherine Anderson, Laura
Griffin, Andrea Kane, and Lisa Jackson, just to name a few. This list
by no means defines by own writing but they have indeed influenced my
desire to live outside of my own world and to create the thrill of my
dreams. I live on 40 + acres in the SHOW ME state with my six year
old daughter, with the wonderful addition of four dogs and a handful
of chickens. The weather is unpredictable, but the surrounding beauty
of the country helps my creativity as I sit on my top deck with my
laptop and coffee close by.

Kevin
J. Kessler
lives in Orlando Florida, where he owns the White
Dragon Podcast Network, which puts out weekly podcasts on a variety
of topics from Walt Disney World, to movies, television, comic books,
video games and more.

A
lifelong geek, Kessler can often be found at the many theme parks and
local attractions in Orlando.
He
developed the story for Rosinanti as a sophomore in high school,
sixteen years before the book’s release.
Since
an early age, Kessler has been an avid reader, often found lost
within the magical worlds found within the pages of fantasy novels.
"It
was always my dream to create such a world of my very own," he
said. "Even as a kid when my friends would want to play Power
Rangers or X-Men, I would always create a new Ranger or Mutant rather
than portray an established character. There is power in creativity!
Creativity breeds creation!"

L.A.
Remenicky
~ Love Stories With A Twist

L.A.
Remenicky is a wife and mother of two fur kids. A payroll
professional by day, she writes out the stories in her head by night.
An
avid reader all her life, she finally put pen to paper (or fingers to
keyboard) during NaNoWriMo in 2012 and has never looked back. When
she’s not typing away on her latest story with music playing in the
background, she can usually be found spending time with her family
and friends.

A.
Nicky Hjort

is originally from Arlington, Texas- the second of five siblings, all
of whom have strong creative talents. She currently lives in coastal
central California where she practices medicine as an Ob/GYN. In
between being a lovingly devoted mother and delivering babies, she
writes stories that cross multiple genre lines- from Sci Fi to high
fantasy, but all of her stories have thriller and strong romantic
components. And for her clever reader, all of her manuscripts are
subtly connected to each other, with their purpose to explore all
facets of Love and Light. She likes to say that her stories write
themselves, and in the process, often write her, or at least the next
version of her hoping to emerge. A lover of all the arts, A. Nicky
Hjort hopes her stories might inspire you to find your inner creative
genius.

As
for her heroes- they are as varied and eclectic as her choice of
narrative genres, but when pushed to list her favorite influences,
she would say James Patterson, Barbara Kingsolver, Patricia Cornwell,
Dean Koonntz, Gene Roddenberry, Shel Silverstein, Suzanne Collins,
and Walt Disney.

Aubree
Lane

is a true story teller. This award winning author has been writing in
one form or another for most of her life and has loved every
moment.

Aubree
lives in the beautiful foothills of Northern California with her
husband, two wonderful sons, and a super special peek-a-poo named
Tanner. When not managing the pooper-scooper, Aubree can be found at
one of her favorite vacation spots ranging anywhere from Lake Tahoe
to Maui.

Her
motto: Write Until Your Butt Hurts, And Your Eyes Are
Crossed.

Aubree
and her husband enjoy the harvest of their seasonal garden and
relaxing in the paradise they created, called home.

Born
and raised in the California Bay Area, Janae Keyes is an
American mom, wife, and hopeless romantic living in Europe. She loves
to explore various cultures coming together through the magic of
love. Residing in a suburb of Brussels, Belgium, with her husband and
daughter, Janae loves to share her passion for romance with others.

 Excerpt:
“I want to know about you,” he spoke before she could, and then shifted closer, his knee
pressed into her thigh once more. “I have questions. I’m made of them.”
She gave a little laugh as she shook her head. “There’s nothing more to know about me than
what you already know.”
“There’s literally everything to know about you,” he insisted. “Where did you go to school?
What really made you take a job like this one where you leave everything behind?”
“I went to Shippensburg University. You’ve probably never heard of it.” Like she’d ever
answer that last question. Finishing off her tea, she smiled faintly. “It’s really late and I do need
to get to sleep. Thank you for the tea. I think it will work.”
“But I haven’t asked you the most important question.”
Slipping off the stool, she let her hair fall forward, past her breasts. “And what is that?”
“How can you be here and be the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen?”
Julia’s head swung to his so fast she thought her it would fall right off her shoulders.
Everything about the tone of his voice and the slightly wide eyes of his said he was being
genuine, but he couldn’t be serious.
Her gaze sharpened. Was he drinking something harder than chamomile? Because there was
no way in the world that he truly believed that she was the most beautiful creature he’d ever
seen.
The question burned to the tip of her tongue. If he thought she was so beautiful then why did
he walk away from her that night in her apartment? She swallowed the question so she didn’t
have to swallow her pride.
At the end of the day, she knew who Lucian was.
He was the kind of guy who couldn’t go a weekend without getting laid. They existed. She’d
met a few while in college and when she did her stint at the hospital. They weren’t exactly
particular when it came to who’d they be with. Pretty much came down to whoever was
available at the time.
Which meant she wasn’t going to be impressed with stray compliments that were tossed out
as often as the trash was.
Lucian leaned and then spoke in a low voice, “There is another reason why I didn’t tell you
who I was.”
The change of subject rattled her and she whispered back. “Why?”
He tilted his head so his mouth was directly above her ear. “Because I knew the moment
you’d figured out who I was, you wouldn’t have let me come back to your apartment.”
Exhaling roughly, Julia knew she needed to pull away and stop this conversation. That was
the professional and mature thing to do, but she didn’t move. She was frozen on her stool, her
heart thumping in her chest.
He wasn’t done yet. “I knew that if you realized who I was, you would’ve never let me get
my hand between those pretty thighs of yours and I would’ve never known how soft and slick
you felt against my fingers.”
A bolt of red-hot lust blasted through her veins as heat poured into her very core. Those
words created a storm inside her. A tremble rocked her body.
“So, yeah, that’s another reason why I didn’t say who I was.” His lips brushed the lobe of her
ear, sending an illicit shiver across her skin.
Pulse pounding, she drew back. She felt unsteady as Lucian straightened on his chair, and she
felt so close—too close to do something irrevocably reckless. Like hopping off her stool and into
his lap.
“You’re not supposed to bring that up,” she reminded him. “You promised.”
He tilted his head to the side. “I didn’t promise that.”
She opened her mouth.
“I didn’t,” he insisted, and when she dragged the conversation back through her thoughts, she
realized he was right. He hadn’t.
Her eyes narrowed. “Even so, it would be the appropriate thing for you to do.”
“And I think you already know how I feel about doing the appropriate thing.”
She shook her head. It was way past time to end this conversation. “Thank you for the tea,
Lucian, but—” A gasp cut her off.
Lucian rose and was in front of her so quickly that she was startled. “Say it again.”
Confusion swamped her. “Say what?”
“My name.”
They were close, and he towered over her by a good foot. Julia reached out, gripping the
edge of the island. “Why?”
“Because I asked?” he offered, his lips curving up at the corners. “And because I like the way
it sounds coming from your lips.”
Her heart did a weird little jump. She had no idea how to respond to that request. None
whatsoever.
But then he moved. He reached into the small place between them, catching the piece of her
hair that had fallen across her cheek. Before she could move away, the back of his hand dragged
across her cheek as he tucked the hair behind her ear. Her stupid, stupid body immediately

responded once more.
