Ghosh Wolf by Hurri Cosmo

Title: Ghost Wolf
Author: Hurri Cosmo
Genre: M/M Shifter Romance
Release Date: January 18, 2018
Publisher: Painted Hearts Publishing

Hi, my name is Trevor. I’m a wolf shifter.

I say that like I know what I’m talking about. I don’t. I was simply running off a ton of steam one day when I was around eleven and bam! Okay, not quite that easy or fast but it happened when I was young and stupid. I’m also gay. I say that like I know what I’m talking about with that too. I simply don’t.

I’m grown up now and living in the big city which has me too busy to much care about either one of those things. I get out and run my wolf when I can, trying like hell to stay out of the local pack’s territories. Belonging to a “family” just sounds like too much work, and honestly I don’t have time for such things. Besides, I was told when I was young the color of my wolf was all wrong. Too silver...or something. Metallic. I kinda thought it looked cool in the full moon. “Pack Alpha would kill ya soon as look at ya.” My grandpa used to say. Course he wasn't my real grandpa. Just an old man who lived down the street, but he was a shifter too and I thought he knew it all. He probably knew diddly either, but a guy can’t be too careful. And romance? Way off the radar.
Only now someone has started killing wolves. Started leaving broken bodies lined up in a nice little row next to the high school in my home town and it's got me to thinking. If a shifter is killed in his or her wolf state, do they stay that way? Were these dead wolves like me? The hell of it all is this: being a shifter isn't common knowledge. It bothers me enough that now I want to find out more. See if there's anything I can do. Kind of like a super hero.
Oh yeah. Probably forgot to tell you this too. I can turn invisible. Yep, Ghost Wolf to the rescue.

I live in Minnesota where I hold tight to the idea that here, where it’s cold a good part of the year, I won’t age as fast. Yep, I avoid the truth as much as I avoid mirrors. But one of the reasons I love writing is reality doesn’t always offer up a “happily ever after” and being able to take control of that is a powerful lure. Being a happy ending junkie, writing just makes them easier to find. Oh, I don’t mind “real life” and I do try to at least keep it in mind when I write my stories, but I truly love creating a wonderful couple, knowing they will fall in love and have their HEA. Every - single - time. And, of course, that is exactly the reason I love reading this genre, too. Give me a glass of red wine, some dark chocolate, and my computer, whether I am reading or writing, and I will entertain herself for hours. The fact I actually get paid to do it is Snickers bars on the frosting on the cake.

The Wizard’s Bones Dark Deeds and Black Magic Series Book 1 by Luke Ahearn

The
Wizard’s Bones
Dark
Deeds and Black Magic Series Book 1
by
Luke Ahearn
Genre:
Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery
66
pages

In
the tradition of Fritz Leiber and Robert Howard this is a gritty tale
of traditional sword and sorcery.

A
dark twisted youth and his voluptuous lover tackle the one thing they
sought to avoid, responsibility. In the dangerous streets of
Kingspoint they play at thievery, love making, and adventure seeking.

Excerpt 2:
“I imagine a woman in your situation, forced to don tawdry disguises and follow
a mime into a life of thievery, hasn’t much been treated like a lady.” Xanthus sat her at a
finely polished table of dark hardwood. It was carved in the most detailed fashion with
roses and cherubs all about it. He set a glass before her and poured her a dark liquid
from a crystal decanter.
“Fancy you wines from the East? Expert vintners the eastern folk, do you agree?”
She took a long sip, and her eyes closed as she put her head back.
“I don’t know vintners from stray dogs, but by gods that’s delicious. I feel it in my
toes.” And she cracked a luscious smile. “And every point in between.”
“Pray, you sit alone but for a moment.” And Xanthus went to the next room.
Harlequin cracked an eye and listened intently for the telltale scuff of a eunuch’s
barefoot, or the hiss of a blade being drawn, but she only saw the handsome princeling
returning with a cloth-covered board.
“Tis but a light assortment of cheese and meat. Please.” He pulled the cloth
aside, and she chose a light colored cheese to nibble on.
“So, here we are. Victim and victimizer, how cozy.” He sat across from her and
sipped from his own glass.
She giggled. “I should think you’d be fetching the guard to apprehend me, or
tossing me to the stones less a finger or two.”
Xanthus regarded her for a long while as she sipped and nibbled. She likewise
studied him. Their eyes were locked on the other’s as both pondered the familiarity they
each felt. Dangerous mind play they each, in their own fashion, thought, to be so
transfixed, so unguarded. He knowing that Pulcinella could be right that moment
sneaking up behind him with garrote or killing dagger. And she, likewise knowing that
such a large house could easily hide a felt-slippered eunuch behind secret panels. She
was on his turf, and any number of preplanned dooms awaited the likes of her.
And each was curious as to their own behavior, for Xanthus was not one to be
taken in by female charms, and she was immune to the smooth, charming gent. In fact,
warning bells clanged in the head of each when in the past such tactics were used upon
them. Yet here they sat, taken in and charmed to distraction.
She had yet to remove her mask, and he wondered what may lie beneath.
Perhaps her face was a monstrosity or cursed with some hideous malformation, he

thought, but knowing in advance that it was beautiful.

Dark Longing’s central characters are Inanna and Gabriel. She is a vampire warrior, one of Queen Jade Cicada’s Chosen guard, and has lived for several millennia. She is also one of the few remaining True Bloods in the world, vampires who are born, not made. He is a human, a widower and father who would sacrifice all for those he loves. Unbeknownst to Gabriel, he also possesses a Pure soul and has an ancient past, as well as a future destiny, that is inextricably entwined with Inanna.

Fate (and a helping hand from Gabriel’s dying wife) has thrown them together in this present age as joint guardians of Benjamin, the son of Gabriel’s heart if not his body. An avalanche of expenses and debts compel Gabriel to enter a deadly network of fight clubs to earn some quick cash, but pulling out of the club is not as easy, as he quickly becomes the spectator favorite.

Meanwhile, the Chosen has been working to eradicate the masterminds behind the fight clubs, which not only result in an increasing number of gory human deaths, but also threaten to expose the Dark Ones to the world at large. In a rare concerted effort, the vampires and their nemesis – the Pure Ones – come together to pursue a common enemy.

To protect Benji from harm, Gabriel risks his life once more in the fight clubs and is almost killed by an unknown vampire assassin. In order to save him, Inanna breaks the sacred laws of her Kind, including turning a human and taking him as her Blooded Mate. What’s worse, they discover after the fact that Gabriel has a Pure soul. A union between Dark and Pure Ones has been strictly forbidden since the dawn of time for reasons no one fully knew.

While the Chosen makes progress with slowing down the expansion of the fight clubs, they uncover new information that points to a traitor in their own midst. Gabriel has a rough adjustment to his new state of being as a vampire, at the same time struggling to make sense of his relationship with Inanna, with whom he’s felt an instant and irresistible connection from the first moment they met. Inanna, on the other hand, devotes her heart and soul totally to love her Mate, just as she had loved his previous incarnation in her youth many millennia ago. To save her from pain, Gabriel’s ancient self, Alad, had her memories erased of him until he could find her again in another life.

Through her newly-forged friendship with the Pure Ones, including their young queen Sophia, Inanna discovers that not only is she a True Blood, but that her mother was a Dark Princess and her father was a Pure warrior and the leader of the Rebellion that led to the destruction of the Dark empire. She is the offspring from this union, and she has a twin brother who all the records say had died. Inanna also finds clues that at least her father might still be alive, and perhaps her mother as well.

By now Gabriel has fully accepted his new lease on life and is determined to help in the war against vampire rogues and their human conspirators any way he can. He has also accepted Inanna fully into his heart, having fallen for her all over again in his present incarnation. But the vampire assassin who threatened them before reveals herself again to challenge Inanna for the right to claim Gabriel as her Blood Slave and takes him prisoner to use against Inanna in the final death match.

Inanna goes with eyes wide open to the site of the challenge and fights the vampire who used to be her comrade. To distract her, the vampire holds Gabriel captive and deals him mortal wounds for every wound Inanna deals her. The ploy works, and Inanna loses concentration, suffering a mortal wound herself.

Inanna and Gabriel’s deaths trigger their Awakening, a process by which those with Pure souls embrace their past lives with all their memories and gifts. When they regain consciousness, they rejoin the battle already waging between the vampire assassins and the Chosen and Pure allies. They win this battle, and together, Inanna and Gabriel execute the traitor who plotted to usurp the Dark Queen.

But the war is not won. The battle between the vampires, humans and Pure Ones was recorded and uploaded onto the Internet to spur the growth of new fight clubs and potentially hastening the widespread exposure of the immortal races to humans. Meanwhile, Inanna and Gabriel rediscover each other with full knowledge of their ancient past. They plan to search for Inanna’s father with the aid of the Pure Ones.

The future is not yet written. Inanna and Gabriel would face the unknown together. Forevermore.

About the Author

Aja has been writing stories since the age of six, and novels since the age of thirteen. While she'd be the first to admit that those early efforts weren't particularly good, she sure loved putting them down on paper!

The best part of writing, according to Aja, is that it’s completely organic, the way the stories develop. When the inspiration hits, she writes just so she herself can learn where the characters are headed because oftentimes, they take her by surprise! It is her ultimate dream to share her stories with as many readers as she possibly can.

Her other loves include art, cooking, old movies (anything with Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Robert Redford, Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Clark Gable, and all the song and dance numbers because she can’t watch them and not be happy!)

She adores taking long walks with her husband and running after her two rambunctious kids. She has traveled extensively (all seven continents except Antarctica) and has a multi-cultural upbringing. She speaks two and a half languages and binge watch TV shows when the mood strikes.

Aja has a Bachelor’s of Arts in Comparative Literature and Economics and two Master’s degrees, one of which is in East Asian Studies.

The first meeting between Dillon and Tessa in Turquoise
Mountain
(Tessa has traveled all the way from New York to Colorado
to find her mine, which happens to be on Dillon’s property)

“I’m
Tessa Grove, and when my grandfather passed away, he left his mining claim to
me. It doesn’t expire for another six months, which means I have legal title to
that mine.”
“You only
have mineral rights to a hole in the ground.” Dillon Iron Feather nodded in the
direction of the mine. “Which means you can’t set foot on my property.”
“What?”
Tessa crossed her arms.
“You
heard me. This piece of paper entitles you to dig behind that old wooden door.
That’s all. And my land surrounds every inch of it. Which means you’re breaking
the law by getting anywhere near that mine. So get lost.”
“Wait,
you can’t deny access to what’s legally mine!”
“Can’t
I?” Dillon’s face broke into a wry smile. For a moment, his eyes sparkled at
the prospect of challenge, lighting them up to a warm, charming brown.
Damn!
Tessa cursed to herself. That’s all I need right now is a guy who gets more
good looking when he taunts me—
Fuming,
she boldly yanked the mining claim and map from his hand to scrutinize them.
According to her documents, it looked like her ancestor was the one who
originally built
Grove
Road
that led to
this mining parcel, which sat right smack dab on the stranger’s property. Okay,
so he was right—her quarter acre didn’t include any of his buildings, but it
connected to the road. And nowhere did it specify that she was required to get
permission from any stranger to use that dirt lane. But how could she convince
him of that?
“Listen,”
Tessa sighed, “I know it might seem out of the blue that I’m here. But my
grandfather meant a lot to me. And this place—this gold mine—it’s…it’s kind of
sacred. What I mean is, my great-great-grandfather found it only because a
Native American outlaw gave him some powerful medicine. That might sound crazy
to you, but it’s true. His name was Iron Feather—”
“Your
great-great grandfather knew Iron Feather?”
Tessa
nodded. “He was Benjamin Grove the First, and he helped Iron Feather and the
Bandits Hollow Gang hide from a posse.” She dug into her purse and held up the
sacred owl feather. “All Iron Feather had to give him in return was this, but
it was rumored to have, you know—”
“Special
powers.”
To
Tessa’s amazement, Dillon’s face darkened in thought. He studied the feather
for a long time as though it were a precious artifact. Then he looked out over
the mountain tops at the threads of garnet in the sky that had begun to spread
from the dipping sun. His eyes seemed very far away.
It’s the
feather, Tessa realized. He knows something about that feather…
Dillon
returned his gaze to Tessa. Yet when he reached for the feather, she seized her
moment and surprised him by lunging for his shotgun. She managed to grab it and
run several strides, when she whipped around.
“Back
off!” She aimed the shotgun straight at him and pumped it awkwardly, barely
remembering how from when her grandfather taught her fifteen years ago. “I want
to see that mine,” she demanded, her body visibly trembling. “And I’m not
leaving till I do.”
Dillon
smirked, his gaze tracing her wild blonde hair that had fallen across her face,
her blue-green eyes spitting fury. What Tessa hadn’t noticed in her panic, of
course, was that her purse had fallen from her shoulder and spilled onto the
ground. He crouched carefully to the grass, keeping his eye firmly on the gun
barrel, and picked up some of the contents before standing to his feet.
“Where do
you expect to go after this if I’ve got your ID and credit cards, city girl?”
Dillon smiled, noticing the blush that suffused her cheeks. Her eyes darted to
the drivers license and MasterCard he held in his hand, and that was all the
opening he needed. With an expertly aimed kick, he knocked the shotgun from her
grip and sent it twirling in air, then caught it. He set the butt down on the
ground.
“You
should know your opponent a whole lot better before you start a fight,” he
scolded. “Now you don’t have your purse or a weapon. Fortunately, you’re far
too pretty for shooting practice today. But don’t press your luck.”
Another
blush warmed Tessa’s cheeks, and she cradled her arms tight to try and
stop the tremors. To her astonishment, Dillon threw down his gun and caught up
to her within a couple of strides. Before she knew it, she was born aloft by
his strong arms, her body next to his warm, hard chest. Despite her kicks and
screams, he set her gently on the grass and pulled a long piece of baling twine
from his pocket, then proceeded to tie up her hands and feet.
“What the
hell are you doing!” Tessa screamed, wriggling on the grass like an angry
caterpillar. “First you threatened me with a gun, and now kidnapping? You’re
going to face the law for this!”
“For your
information, lady, I deliberately shot out the truck mirror and fired the
second shot in the air to scare you off. I have no intention of killing anybody
today. But I will make sure you have a soft bed and a good meal in your belly,
since you appear to be stranded, no matter how hot headed you are.”
With
that, he pulled a bandana from his pocket and stuffed it in Tessa’s mouth. She
kept thrashing violently while he picked up the scattered items on the meadow
and returned them along with her ID and credit card to her purse.
But he
slipped the owl feather into his pocket.
Just
then, Tessa saw vivid red and blue lights trace over the cabin and barn as the
shrill sound of a siren echoed off the hillsides. A police cruiser appeared at
the front gate, and an officer stepped out.
“Dammit,
Dillon!” The officer called out. “What have you done to this poor woman? For
crying out loud, are you that desperate for female company?” He walked boldly
toward them. “Good thing Dusty went to town and called 911 after you shot out
the mirror on his truck.”
Dillon
laughed. “As a matter of fact, Barrett,” he replied, picking up Tessa’s
squirming body and heading toward the cruiser, “I was about to bring her to you
anyway. She’s lost, and if she hadn’t been so pig-headed about refusing to
leave, I would have driven her to town and put her up in a hotel myself without
hog-tying her. Watch out—she’s a feisty one.”
