She was my first love.
She was my first hate.
The very sun in my world tried to burn me alive with her lies and cruelty.
Until I dimmed her light for good…
Or so I thought.

Now she’s back.
Cracked. Broken. Lost.
And for the first time in a long time, I feel free.
Free from our past. Free from my present that suffocates me. Free to destroy her future.

Her misery is my music.
Thrilling. Invigorating. Intoxicating.

For so long, all I’ve done is hate her.
So why do I love her?

Excerpt
2, chapter 1

As Leonhard felt
the small hand holding his arm, he was filled with a kind of joy for the first
time in decades. He didn’t want to remember the last time he had felt this way;
parts of his dark past were locked.
‘Elisa’ was
feeling reassured, at least for the moment. She and her new friend remained
silent, but sometimes suspicious thoughts invaded their minds.
As they walked
west, they heard feminine laughter in the distance. A conversation was taking
place behind some bushes and the exciting tone awakened the couple’s curiosity.
‘Elisa’ reached closer to Leonhard’s ear, stretching her body to stand on her
tiptoes, for he was a tall man. “I hear voices, sir! Sounds like two ladies are
sharing some secrets!”
“I recognize
those voices,” he whispered back, almost seduced by the sweet fragrance of her
hair and skin. “They are my gardeners. Come, you shall see them!”
Leonhard guided
her towards the voices. They approached two pretty, young girls sitting on the
ground, cutting dahlias. The girls looked up at the couple curiously. They
bowed to Leonhard and nodded to ‘Elisa’, who was shy and hid behind the
protector she knew so little about. She gasped at the sight of the girls and
gripped Leonhard’s arm tight. They are so seductive, she thought, envying the
girls. Her heart sped up, as if it wanted to escape through her throat. She didn’t
dare to speak, nor could she.
“So, who is this
pretty young rose you’ve brought with you?” the girl on the left enquired.
“Is she going to
stay in our garden?” the good-humored girl on the right asked, winking.
“She is my guest
and is staying with us for an undefined time. Gerania, Iphigenia, we don’t know
her name yet. I found her in the woods last evening and brought her here. It
seems like she is suffering from some kind of memory loss, but I will help her
as much and as long as I can. I am asking all in this house to welcome and
serve her as well.”
Leonhard bowed,
kissing the ladies’ hands, gallant as usual. ‘Elisa’ grew jealous as she
watched them. Gerania pinched ‘Elisa’s’ cheek and wished her welcome. ‘Elisa’
blushed with fear. Oh my! Why is this weird woman doing this to me?
“Don’t scare our
guest, sister!” said Iphigenia, abruptly. “Where are your manners? Oh dear!”
“I am so sorry,
my dear! I exceeded myself badly! I wish you a good stay in this house.”
Gerania stared at ‘Elisa’ with a chilling smile.

Leonhard and
‘Elisa’ resumed their walk, leaving the sisters by themselves. The girls knelt
on the ground again and talked about Leonhard’s new ‘friend’. They knew
everybody in the village, except for this one. “She was so pretty, delicate,
pure... This is bothering!” Gerania commented in a low voice. Her sister
agreed. They soon went back to gardening and sharing their little secrets. The
lady and the gentleman heard more laughter in the distance.

Interview with Isis Sousa
Where do you get inspiration for your stories?
I get it from different sources: I love music to the bone, so that is one important source and I breathe art, so that’s another. Classic tales are the foundation for my taste for literature and great influencers on my writing. I read, listen to music and appreciate art every single day as well as collect images on Fashion, objects and whatnot my Pinterest. These routines keep me inspired :-)
How did you do research for your book?
I love History and The Victorian Era. I read articles, stories, books, as well as watch films that can help me creating the scenes for my work and details such as costumes for my characters. Also, I try to incorporate real history within Fantasy. There are things in the narrative for The Night of Elisa which are facts, such as when Brazil, Elisa’s country, was once called ‘The United States of Brazil’.
Do you have another profession besides writing?
Writing is for me a hobby. It doesn’t pay my bills… yet. Also it is secondary to my biggest passion and greatest part of my personality: illustrating. I am a professional illustrator and do cover art for a living. Also once a week I teach arts at the local school, which I love! I started with it a little over a year ago and it was one of the best things I have done in life!
If you could go back in time, where would you go?
Definitely, I would love to experience the flavours and esthetics of the Victorian Era, a tour through the European capitals. That would be my top time travel destination! ^.^
What is your next project?
I have two in mind: A Gothic Steampunk novel with a protagonist couple. A young, poor, desolate girl who goes through tremendous hardship and a monstrous man, who antagonizes her for most of the story and has an important scientific discovery for mankind.  It takes place in the Victorian Era. The other project is a very unstable couple, that do a lot of crazy stuff in a mysterious Urban Fantasy tale happening in modern day Norway.

Excerpt Two:

“Why are you here?” she asked, ignoring the little jump of her heart at the sight of him.

“Really, Am? We’re going to do this? Me, out in the hallway as if I was some vampire begging to come in just so I can bite that delicate little neck of yours?”

“Sorry, I prefer werewolves,” she replied with a smirk before attempting to close the door in his face. Irritated, she looked down and saw he used his foot as a stopper.

“Cute. Have it your way.” He stood his ground. Amaranth wanted to let him stay right out in the hallway, but he was right. She didn’t want anyone privy to their conversation, so she stepped away to let him enter.

“Come in,” she relented and inhaled his clean scent as he walked past her to the center of the room. His presence filled the tiny space as he looked around, turned and laid those gorgeous hazel eyes on her. God, would she ever stop feeling as if the very sight of him was like a vacuum sucking the air from her body? She willed her pulse to slow its rapid hammering. He was still devastatingly handsome with his ink black wavy hair and eyes that couldn’t decide whether they wanted to be amber or green. They regarded her even now with some sort of emotion that bordered on anxious and apologetic.

For Fourteen-year-old Aidan Reynolds, the archaeological dig at the Parrish Cove historical society is the only thing making the summer interesting.

That is until he meets Maddie, an unusual girl who has just moved to town and is convinced that there is more to the local legends surrounding the historical society than even he knows.

While Aidan may not believe her, the strange artifacts that are recovered from the dig force them into exploring the dark, twisted history of Parrish Cove and its strange doctor...a man who vanished over a century ago.

Together, they uncover a town secret that has been forgotten for centuries, and discover that there are some things that should stay buried.

Excerpt:

…The officer
started us back into the plaza at a rapid walk. His clomping steps on the brick
walkway, and the heavy jingling of his belt gave an air of strength. Although
Maddie was glued to my side, I could feel her gaining confidence with each
step. We were probably running from a dog again.
“Here,” I said,
and started us back down the alley past the Custom House.
“Did you see the
animal?” The officer asked.
“Yeah,” Maddie
responded.
“No,” I
corrected with glance at her. “It was fast.”
The officer
clicked on his huge flashlight, casting a blinding light down the alley ahead
of us. He quickly turned the light down the side alleys as we passed them to
check for motion. It only lasted a moment before he swept the back ahead of us
over the dumpsters and piles of cardboard lining the alley. The beam was so
bright that it was possible to illuminate the brick walls on both sides.
Everything
changed the moment we emerged into the park.

About the Author:

Born in California, he has spent most of his life traveling throughout the US. Drawing inspiration from his many adventures, turning that strange reality into fiction.

Over the years, he has found himself in many unusual situations, ranging from hanging off an 80 foot cliff-face in New York, to sailing off the coast of Salem, Massachusetts. He has hosted archaeological excavations, and have even reported from the middle of a police stand-off.

When a teacher asked him in the second grade what he wanted to be when he grew up, he didn't have an answer. To be honest, he still doesn't know. He just lets his characters make that decision.

Interview with P W Creighton
Where do you get inspiration for your stories?
I draw a lot of inspiration from my various adventures, whether it be from a road trip, consulting for an archaeological excavation, fragments from a dream, or as simple as watching something or reading about a subject. Inspiration is all around us, it’s just a matter of assembling the pieces into something coherent that my mind wants to get out.
How did you do research for your book?
Research for Passing Strange: The Well was actually quite easy. I was hired as the archaeological consultant for leading a dig to find a Revolutionary War era fort in the Mohawk Valley. (Full Story on my blog) In short, hidden away in the downtown district just a foot underground we uncovered a giant hand carved stone well-cap, and a well that had not been on any records. In fact, the well only showed up on a property record in the early 1830s as a marker. The well was 14ft deep and filled with countless medical artifacts.
Do you have another profession besides writing?
I tend to be a jack-of-all-trades in today’s world. I’m an author, a photographer-videographer, a community educator at a local college, and the Digital Managing Editor for a regional news-talk station. I personally blame MacGyver for my lack of a unified direction. It’s terribly influential on a young mind.
If you could go back in time, where would you go?
That is a whole can of worms. Do you go back to see an artist in concert? Maybe explore ancient societies? Or do you go back to undo a mistake from a few months ago? Do you go back to high school and kick yourself for being stupid? Elementary school because you humiliated yourself? Maybe go back and stop your brother from being killed? What would the repercussions be? I think it would be hard for me to choose just one time and place to go.
What is your next project?
Currently, I am working on the next novel in the Passing Strange series. Passing Strange: The Sunken Forest. Another look into Parrish Cove’s dark and twisted history along with some more of the residents. I am also working on the fourth novel in the North Shore series View From A Bridge.
