Curl up in front of the fire, with this fun, festive read.

Daisy Jones has hit rock bottom. Or so she believes.

A cheating boyfriend, trouble at work, having to move back in with her mother, and being forced to compare her brother's loved-up, newly-wed status and brand-new shiny house with her own dire lack of prospects, isn't what she imagined her life was going to be like at thirty. To top it all off, Christmas, is just around the corner!

Daisy, bless her, thinks things can't possibly get any worse, but when her ancient great-grandmother persuades her to plant a silver sixpence in the Christmas pud for luck, Daisy is about to discover that they most definitely can.

About the Author

Lilac spends all her time writing, or reading, or thinking about writing or reading, often to the detriment of her day job, her family, and the housework. She apologises to her employer and her loved ones, but the house will simply have to deal with it!
She calls Worcester home, though she would prefer to call somewhere hot and sunny home, somewhere with a beach and cocktails and endless opportunities for snoozing in the sun…
When she isn’t hunched over a computer or dreaming about foreign shores, she enjoys creating strange, inedible dishes in the kitchen, accusing her daughter of stealing (she meant to say “borrowing”) her clothes, and fighting with her husband over whose turn it is to empty the dishwasher.

Cover Reveal "The Matrix Matriarch" by Maxime Trencavel

About the Book

Title: The Matriarch Matrix
Author: Maxime Trencavel
Genre: Science Fiction, Adventure
The Matriarch Matrix – A speculative fiction novel of origins, faith, passion, and the pursuit of peace.
It was always his destiny to save her. It was always her destiny to die. The fate of the world hangs on their choices…
The past foretells her future…
What does it take to change a loving child of peace into an assassin for a dangerous and powerful oligarch? Zara Khatum knows. Once a fighter for her Kurdish people, the memory of the atrocities inflicted by her captors has Zara seeking one thing: vengeance. But the voices of the ancients call to Zara. In the past, in another life, she knew the secrets of the artifact…
Twelve thousand years ago…
She is Nanshe, revered matriarch of the family she led away from the monsters of the north. In the land that would one day mark the treacherous border between Turkey and Syria, she created the temples at Gobleki Tepe and founded a dynasty, heirs to a powerful object. For millennia, Nanshe’s descendants have passed down the legend of the artifact: “The object can save. But only a man and woman together can guide the salvation of others.”
Heirs to destiny…
By fate or destiny, Zara is thrown in with Peter Gollinger, a quirky Californian from the other side of the world and the other side of everything she believes. But he, too, is heeding the voices of his ancestors. Joined by Jean-Paul, a former Jesuit priest, these three people—from wildly different religions and cultures—must find a way to work together to solve a twelve thousand-year-old mystery of the powerful object that spawned a faith. The world teeters on the precipice of war. The outcome depends on them. And one of them is living a lie.
The Matriarch Matrix is a rich and deeply layered epic story – a spiritual odyssey with a heartbeat of an action adventure. It may make you think, ponder, reflect upon where we came from and where we are going. It blends our past with a speculative future of things that are not so far-fetched. It blends the drama, the comedy, the romance, the tragedy of three protagonists with different cultures, traditions, and beliefs – a Sufi woman, a Jesuit priest, and an alien origin believing atheist. Their journeys separately and together will be a test of their respective faiths and their inner search for personal and family redemption.

At exactly three o’clock
in the morning, I was in bed, turning over for the umpteenth time. For some
unknown reason, I couldn’t fall asleep. In fact, I didn’t have even a blink of
sleep.

Okay, so I was pretending not to know the reason for my
difficulty, but I could come up with possible reasons. For starters, I had a
little too much espresso cake after dinner and a few more cups of strong green
tea than the recommended amount at lunch. Also, in the past few hours alone, I
had at least thirteen people visit me, asking about the whereabouts of their
personal belongings and if I thought their spouses were cheating on them. All
of them happened to be former residents of this upscale condo on Fifth
Avenue in Manhattan,
where I called home. The last straw was Mrs. Williams, who kept demanding I
return her hearing aid. I kept telling her that I wasn’t the evil woman who hid
her belongings, and I shared my hunch that her family might have forgotten to
put her hearing device with her; however, she didn’t seem to fathom what I was
trying to say—perhaps because she didn’t have her hearing aid.

By the way, did I mention that all those people who visited
me during these ungodly hours had been dead for years?

My name is Amanda Rowling, née Meyer, a part-time secretary for my husband and mostly a stay-at-home
housewife,
and people, including
but not limited to my husband Rick, usually call me Mandy.

Anyway, I was
trying my best to grab some sleep before dawn, not that I had to get up early
and go to work in the morning, but Rick had been busy since joining
USCAB—United States Cover All Bases, a security-based conglomerate owned and
run by his dad—and I wanted to do my best to be his super-supportive partner.
Cooking power breakfasts for him and myself had become my ritual since I moved
in with him at this condo over a year ago, and I was determined to continue
this ritual. Anyway, using knives and a hot oven in a sleep-deprived status
wasn’t high on my to-do list. I tended to commit faux-pas in the kitchen, like
scorching eggs and bacon to a crisp, whenever I was short of sleep.

Before marrying
him, I used to work for the FBI’s New York City headquarters as a special
assistant. At first, I was just an assistant with a mission to keep my
then-boss Rick Rowling, the sexy, arrogant loose cannon who loved nothing more
than trouble, from wreaking havoc and destroying NYC. However, a little after
starting my FBI career, I developed a special skill of seeing dead people and
communicating with them, and my tasks expanded to interviewing murder victims
and dead witnesses.

When Rick, who
was the head of Paranormal Cases Division and the only colleague I had, left
the feds to join his family business, I followed his suit and resigned from the
feds.

Even though
Sheldon Hernandez, the head of the FBI’s New York City headquarters, offered me
a lucrative consulting contract, I declined. At that time, leaving my life with
the FBI, communicating with dead people and dodging frequent temper tantrums
thrown at me by the deceased, and concentrating on being Mrs. Rowling seemed
like a fabulous idea. But after the wedding and returning from our honeymoon, I
wasn’t sure if I made the right decision. At that time, I presumed I’d stop
encountering the spirits of dead; however, things didn’t go as I’d hoped. I was
still having as many ghostly visitors as before.

And, recalling my
past life as an FBI assistant, I was horrified to found myself sort of missing
my days dealing with the murderers, crooks, and dead people. Okay, so having
nothing to do with criminals should be the norm for most people, and when I
left the feds, I couldn’t wait to spend my days without worrying about being
assaulted by evil ghosts and bad humans, but…

Lotta Smith is the author of Paranormal in Manhattan Mystery
series. She fell in love with mystery the moment she developed consciousness.
She is especially fond of lighthearted murder mystery stories with a little
sprinkle of romance.

She went to medical school hoping to see real corpses and sexy professors. Back
then, she was into this kind of mystery series about a smokin' hot forensic
medicine professor and a quirky female student going a-sleuthing, cracking
unsolvable cases. Lotta truly, madly wanted to team up with a superhot
professor and crack a difficult murder or two. (Note; she got to see the
corpses, but sexy professors were nonexistent.)

A mysterious forest near the cozy town of Herogate, England is more than what it seems. Referred to as The Dark Wood by the townsfolk, the forest is guarded by a strange old man and creatures not of this world. Even the locals never set foot in the bewitched woodlands, and trespassers have a way of turning up dead.

When Noah Walters moves to town with his parents, his father—a contractor working on a top secret project for a private security firm—makes Noah promise to never enter those woods; but he doesn’t know that Fate has other plans.

Noah and his new best friends, Ethan and Skye, are chased into The Dark Wood by Grucker, a schoolyard bully, and their lives are changed forever. They are forced into the heart of the forest, where they discover a lost fairy who needs their help to find her way back home before it's too late.

Join Noah and his friends on a magical adventure as they race against time and plunge headfirst into the unknown. They are challenged with secrets to keep, a dangerous mission to accomplish, and a test of courage that will bring them face-to-face with magical creatures they thought only existed in fairy tales.

This is more than a tale of discovery, mystery, and excitement; it’s an epic adventure that will usher you into a world where magic is in the air, in the trees, and in every heart.

Meeting a Monster -A True Story

When I was
younger, a group of newly acquired friends and I tried to think of something
eerie to do on Halloween night. Little did we know, that we would see something
truly terrifying that would change our lives forever.
Like many
teenagers, we decided that visiting a cemetery was just about the perfect way
to give ourselves a good scare. I had just moved to town, and my new friends
insisted that there was a glowing tombstone in an old, run down graveyard off a
gravel road about thirty miles outside of town. So, we piled in a small,
two-door car and drove, excited about the prospects of having some good ghost
stories to tell on the way.
The road we were
driving on was a narrow, two-lane service road with lots of potholes, hills,
and curves. The locals had spread rumors that “devil-worshipers” often held
ceremonies along that road, and one of the girls, who was sitting in the back
seat, seemed to be enjoying herself as she recounted the spooky stories. She
spoke of how the Satanists skinned animals alive, and how there were strange
sightings in the area. Her last story was about the glowing gravestone; she
claimed it was cursed.
We drove farther
and farther from town, well over thirty miles, and I fidgeted in my seat. I was
beginning to have second thoughts about going so far out into the night, especially
since I hadn’t let my mother know where I was going. Back then, we didn’t have
mobile phones. If something unexpected or dreadful happened, there would’ve
been no one around to help, and my mother wouldn’t have even known where to
look.
I shook my head,
trying to shake off my growing apprehension as silence suddenly fell over the
car like a soft, suffocating blanket. I cleared my throat to speak up but
thought better of it. I didn’t want to be the one who chickened out and insist
on turning back.
The car’s
headlights pierced the darkness of the night and bugs thumped into the
windshield as we continued to drive along. That’s when it happened.
The car came to
a screeching halt.
There, in the
middle of the road, sat a coyote. The driver of the car, a sixteen-year-old
girl with short curly hair named Angie (her name has been changed to protect
her identity), honked at the coyote. To our amazement, it didn’t move. Instead,
it lazily looked in our direction as if it had nothing better to do than sit in
the middle of the road, blocking our way.
She honked
again.
The coyote
blinked. The lights of the car reflected on its retina, causing its eyes to
glow a dull shade of red.
When it did not
budge this time, Angie yelled and honked again, but this time she held her hand
down so that the horn blared into the night air.
It was then that
the coyote stood on its two hind legs and turned toward us, a tall looming
monster with sharp teeth and penetrating eyes.
Angie’s hand
slid from the steering wheel as we all sat in amazement at this towering beast.
It seemed to be looking us over, mulling over what it would do next.  Was he contemplating eating us?
I couldn’t find
my voice. All I could do was sit there, slack-jawed and bewildered.
Just when I
thought we were going to have to flee for our lives, the creature turned and
ran away, its movements akin to that of a running human.
Everyone in the
car finally found their voices to scream! Angie whipped a U-turn, and we
hightailed it back to town.

Even today, over
twenty years later, the vision of that creature is still clearly etched upon my
memory. That was the day that I began questioning how magical and mysterious
our world truly is.  -Laura C. Cantu

About Ker Dukey

My books all tend to be darker romance, edge of your seat, angst filled reads. My advice to my readers when starting one of my titles…prepare for the unexpected.

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters growing up.
My mum would always have a book in her hand when I was young and passed on her love for reading, inspiring me to venture into writing my own. I tend to have a darker edge to my writing. Not all love stories are made from light; some are created in darkness but are just as powerful and worth telling.

When I’m not lost in the world of characters I love spending time with my family. I’m a mum and that comes first in my life but when I do get down time I love attending music concerts or reading events with my younger sister.

Interview with Marita A. Hansen
Where do you get inspiration for your stories?
For Stella Maris I got my inspiration from a Catholic school I went to. The school was called Star of the Sea (Stella Maris is its Latin form). It was a fantastic looking school, with such good memories, so much so that I wanted to write about it. But instead, the story blossomed into a supernatural tale of angels, demons, and magical rosaries.
For my other stories, I'm largely inspired by the people and places around me. I also get inspired by news articles, which influenced my Broken Lives series.
How did you do research for your book?
For Stella Maris, I already knew about the religion and mythology in my story, plus the time period, since I lived through it, so it didn't require a lot of research. Though, since it's set in 1989, I did have to double-check on the internet that I had the right dates.
Do you have another profession besides writing?
I was an artist for a number of years, but gave it up for writing. I also used to tutor art history, lecturing for a short time. But the latter wasn't for me, so I didn't continue with it.
If you could go back in time, where would you go?
I'm not sure, because I think I prefer this time. Though, I do get nostalgic for the 1980s, and I kind of like the 1960s. So... if I had to choose, I'd choose the 1960s. Great music, drive-in movies, a more innocent time...
What is your next project?
The fourth book in the Broken Lives series: Love Stoned. It's meant to be the final book, even though I wouldn't mind writing two more. But I have a number of other books planned for 2018, so I have to hold myself in check. Terra (The Legendary Rosaries #2) is due out after Love Stoned.
